Taking a deep dive into my close friend Jimmy and his journey as an automotive RUclipsr, parts distributor and more! Jimmy's RUclips: / jimmyoakes Jimmy's instagram: @jimmyoakes
ayeee i love when we get to see you this time. listening to the audio is good but seeing you're reactions or faces towards questions or stories is more interesting
It’s crazy, I’ve enjoyed the other podcast but this one is it. Everyone needs a jimmy in their life. He’s not even Adams friend that man is his brother. Seeing this convo with video makes it so much cooler. Jimmy Oakes is a legend. Jimbo the man.
As a new business owner in the automotive industry, a car builder and an enthusiast; this podcast really hit the sweet spot on the realness of things within the industry and business / relationships in general. Don't under estimate their advice on the top 3's at the end. Those are the single best 3 pieces of advice you can get. Work on today, tomorrow work on tomorrow, one day at a time. Project but don't over plan. Stay positive, failure is only a lesson to keep you from failing again. The people who fail the most also win the most. Thanks for this one Adam. Long time subscriber and I can say that you and some of the OG's on youtube inspired me to get into this industry in the first place and I now have 2 full time employees building cars with me in a nice shop. For 7 years I worked and absorbed everything I could, figured out what niche I loved the most, focused extra on that and did side work specializing in it for 3 years. Last November I quit my job with $-2300.00 in my account and 40k in debt. Today I'm debt free, building cool ass cars and going to work with my friends everyday. Keep grinding yall. Cheers.
Absolutely loved this episode. So nostalgic. Looking forward to the future pods with hopefully some of the old buddy’s. What are the odds of getting Cody or rob on the podcast, would love a episode with them.
This was literally a nostalgia trip. Loved every second of this video. Two of the most genuine and inspiring dudes to watch. Crazy to see how far not only Adam has come but jimmy too. I remember watching adams webisodes and seeing jimmy and the Christmas VW in one of the first episodes and also spencer, Bert, and his other friend Cody maybe? Don’t remember his name lmao. I remember watching each episode of the ls swap as they dropped and when they stopped I was super bummed. Im pretty sure at in one episode Adam and jimmy and rj were all partying in his moms garage and working on the red z. I think I was like 14 or 15 maybe. You guys literally walked me through my teens and honestly taught me a lot about life in general. Shout out to you two bad mfs
Jimmy is one of the most wholesome genuine humble youtubers I've come across. You can tell he's just a good dude off camera. It's so sick seeing him become successful over the years
I didn't plan on commenting to this video , but hearing y'all talk about the Wallingford Bike Barn made me...... Growing up I lived 2 blocks away from there ( maybe 3 . It was 28 years ago ) I remember goin there as a kid to get tires and tubes all the time from riding my bike around Wallingford . Brings back memories when I lived be hind Valenti Chevrolet off of route 5 and Wrinn st.
Jimmy is by far one of my favourite YT channels. Been so great watching him grow strength to strength, been a sub since the Red Z was being built. He's super inspirational.
I cant believe I'm that guy who slept in Thai for so long. I blame it on the ADD. Anyway, the one part of this entire story that really hit home was when Jimmy talked about going to college because that's what you're supposd to do. I was the same way. I wasted money on something I didn't even wanna do and never used it. Real is real and that's why I almost exclusively follow you guys and your circle. Unconsciously hitting the points most of us didn't even know were missing. Awesome Mr Disney
Quite honestly if it wasn’t for Jimmy and Adam I would have never stayed as into the automotive world as I have. Being pre med/pt watching them is a nice escape from the world. So thank you for that!
I see the CT thing as a lot of BMX Guys watched Adam and when he started getting in cars I was like okay I’m into this too. Than as jimmy grew and being interlinked with everyone from CT it just grew everyone in that area. Never watched much of haggard but I say Adam had a larger following that was into bmx and those connections made everyone grow.
YES!! I GREW UP WITH HAGGARD I SAW JIMMY, ADAM, ORION, EVERYONE IN THE EAST COAST GROW THROUGH MY COMPUTER SCREEN THIS PODCAST HAS THE POTENTIAL TO REALLY BRING TO LIGHT HOW IT ALL HAPPENED!! This is such a breath of fresh air. The west coast was never able replicate or make such an impact on the automotive community the way the east coast did. In my honest opinion
I was there waiting for the ls swap videos to come out. I absolutely fell in love with cars and specifically the z32. I applied Jimmy’s “extra 5%” to my integra. I still have the screen shot of jimmy commented on my Instagram post after I got the bay painted and shaved. Just last fall I finally was able to buy my own z32. Jimmy if your seeing this, you were a massive inspiration for me.
What’s up Adam and Jimmy this was by far the best podcast the scenic route has done yet. Super inspiring watching you both grow from bmx to cars. I’ve been watching since the pb & j pizza days with Nicole and Bert and John . I am a pro scooter rider from NZ and also love my skylines . I’m currently building a r34 sedan turbo manual. Churr from NZ 🤙
This is the first pod cast I've ever watched start to finish and anyone with a automotive dream should watch. Don't have to have the youtube dream it just shows me how important trying to learn anything you can from someone who knows more and networking is.
Jimmy and his crew are easily my favorite group of RUclipsrs around. Could listen to him and Adam talk for hours. Would love more content with Jimmy, get DJ and the gang on an episode. So happy to see the podcasts rolling out Adam. Hope to get a chance to see you at Englishtown in June. Crazy to see how far you’ve come since the E46 days.
This friendship is amazing, I really enjoyed this episode. Also, I hope you get Jack on a podcast. I'd love to hear his story and how he started HP Logic, plus he's a super smart and humble guy.
This was so cool to see how Jimmy met Haggard and everyone else got to know each other. When I was 16, I found a Haggard video and started watching them. Jimmy was in a video for a few minutes with them, so I started watching Jimmy. Then Jimmy had Adam in a video and that’s how I found out about Adam.
I've supported and cheered for Jimbo since day 1. Could tell he was a genuine, down to earth dude who would take his friends to the top with him. I used to comment about being excited for him having "LZ" money and what he'd actually build and accomplish with a real budget. Will always support team Oakes. Can't wait for what's to come.
This podcast is one that I’ve been really looking forward to. I love hearing about you guys back in college because It makes me feel a lot better about the spot I’m in. Budget s13, broke, and going for bachelors in mech engineering because I know there’s no money in being a mechanic lol.
I was an crazy avid haggard garage viewer from back in the day. It’s crazy how nostalgic it is to think back on that time and how jimmy just appeared and now I’m still watching him almost every upload. Definitely simpler times.
I really really have enjoyed every guest you've featured so far, you've done well selecting guests. I'd love to see Hert, Tommy, Bert, Collette and Lee aswell.
This is a long-winded comment, but, I'm born in 1995 and have always identified with Adam and Jimmy because of it, and found it an inspiration that people in my age group have to me, achieved so much! This podcast is so awesome, and being able to hear things I would've loved to speak to the both of you about if I were to have a normal conversation with each is awesome! Please continue the podcast series, it's so inspirational.
You hit the nail on the head about flipping cars being a great entry point into the automotive hobby. I turned an old ford truck into my realistic dream car, coincidentally a 2004 vw r32 in a matter of a few years and learned so much along the way. Owned so much cool stuff in the mean time and made GREAT memories. Everyone should try it! Good money in dirt bikes too and they can be had cheaper📈📈
Not one to normally sit down and watch/listen to podcasts very often but this is one that I couldnt miss out on, Jimmy is just such a humble genuine person and deserves every ounce of success he has.
I was in to bmx and got in to the car scene as well. I came across these guys when they started in the car scene. It was a joy to hear you guys talk about Jimmy coming up and it also was like memory lane for me. The first time you guys was wrapping up the podcast I almost left the video but was glad I didn't to hear the good advice you guys gave at the end. Well said and great video.
As a young-ish person (19) with a passion and a little amount of money, This inspired me to just do things and try stuff and learn instead of being stagnant and dreaming of what could be or having fantasy scenarios of what I want to be doing. Crazy how I found you 6 or so years ago and watching your whole journey, bmx days and around when you picked up the 240. Truly an inspiration, keep up the amazing work❣️🤟
When I found the old ass video of LZ and Jimmy riding BMX bikes and I'm like whaaaat Jimmy is a wickedly smart dude. I love how he speaks. Found him during the Nissonda build.
Listening to my top 2 most influential and favorite automotive content creators sit down and chop it up about their upbringing is siiiick. I love this podcast!
Two of my favorite people in the world. Jimmy is just as cool and genuine in person as he is on camera. And I think it's safe to say that Adam is probably the same way.
I have been wanting to do HP academy for a few years now, bought a few books on tuning, and studied a lot, and became book smart, and this is a sign I need to go to that class😅!
Its so odd.. been around so long I remember all these moments, and really odd little details around them. I am lowkey crying watching this. Its like trip down memorylane, jimmy always been big inspiration love the man to bits and how fucking humble he is. ❤️ Adam's progress was cool and all.. it was amaizing the way it all happend.. no downplaying but somehow jimmy just takes the cake. The true love for cars just shines out of jimmy.
Adam, your podcast room is in dire need of a interior designer touch! Loving the podcast, learning so much more about you and the great people in your life. Been watching since your college feed bert days!
So cool to hear Jimmy's story since I'm an Automotive Engineering student wanting to learn so much but feel so overwhelmed trying to get through school... I get so impatient and wish I could just know everything right away since I started school knowing nothing but grew up obsessed with cars haha I'll definitely look into the tuning academy because I am SUPER interested in that stuff!
Loved this! I knew both of you existed since the BMX days when my brother watched some of Adams stuff, but I only started watching RUclips a few years ago so its awesome filling in some of the gaps and awesome just hearing great dudes talk about the past. Also love Jimmys approach at all things automotive, it makes things seam relatable and "simple"
Sitting here and getting reminded of the good old days been following both since they started. 8 years later hearing these storys is just Insane (correct me if i am wrong have no real time feeling)

I think a cool idea for an episode would be the Adam LZ episode. Have someone ask you similar questions about growing up, getting started, etc etc. I think Jimmy would be a good candidate to ask the questions

His story about being car guy but having to do engineering school while all your friends had real jobs and “money” at the time is so the same story as me this is so nuts how much overlap we had at the same time of life.
Bless you for adding camera to these!
Holy cow CROWNED I love your videos!
Legend!
I know this guy
Fr love the vids and flicks crowned
Never seen any of your videos, but just scrolled through them.. About to binge watch when this video is over. Lol
I love Jimmy so much. He’s just such a genuinely good dude, and so knowledgeable about everything
ayeee i love when we get to see you this time. listening to the audio is good but seeing you're reactions or faces towards questions or stories is more interesting

Memory lane, I’m so glad I caught on to these two back when they were still riding bmx and seen them progress

Adam being able to remember everything from his past with the homies just proves how good of a guy he is. So based
Jimmy is by far one of my favourite YT channels. Been so great watching him grow strength to strength, been a sub since the Red Z was being built. He's super inspirational.
Jesus his come up is almost exactly how my life is going. Awesome finding out his first VW was a mk4 and that he was a big VW guy!
Biggest take away from this 1.5 hour listen is “communication is EVERYTHING”. Literally the biggest key in life and or business.
I can't wait for the JDM gatekeeper episode

I love Jimmy. The most genuine dude on the planet. I wish everyone I met was like him

Yes now i can finally watch! I can't stand to watch a podcast without watching the people interact and talk! Keep em coming!!
Respect to jimmy for being one of the few who can actually work on a Z32
Much better with the visual part too you are killing it.
I love the business side of these podcasts, truly motivational, genuinely thank you
52:30 all the RUclipsrs from Connecticut are HILARIOUS!!! That’s why I’ve always watch you guys 🤙
It is truly a special bunch of dudes
I was not going to watch until the video . Thanks for putting a video with it . Makes it so much better.
Awesome hearing about your guys roots after watching the growth over years.
So pumped to hear Jimbo's story!
I remember watching those old Jimmy videos when he had the shop next to haggard. Watching the haggard vids at the same time. RUclips was such a different place back then
Very interesting and informative... Been awesome knowing both of y'all these last several years..
Gosssssshhh, it's been 2 years since watching this. Adam we know you're super busy but these podcasts are great, super chill, super deep diving and fun. Look forward to the next. 👍🏽😊
I actually love these podcasts , I'm 15 and I'm wanting to get into the car scene since is been my everything since i was really young so these podcasts are really cool. Never been a podcast guy but these are a different story. I enjoyed the addition of the camera footage so if i wanted to watch something i can see the emotion when talking about a topic etc.
Jimmys definitely the most humble RUclipsrs out there for sure
As a Mech E in progress, I very much appreciated that last little bit. It’s difficult to find motivation to continue school as you said cause it’s nowhere near hands on and it’s just frustrating if anything.
I think a cool idea for an episode would be the Adam LZ episode. Have someone ask you similar questions about growing up, getting started, etc etc. I think Jimmy would be a good candidate to ask the questions
Thoroughly enjoyed this one, oh boy you have an unlimited source of guests, Collete, Vaughn, Ol' Cleet, etc!
I wish I had real friends like this. So cool the bond and the vibe you guys have
I relate to you both so much, being from the lower Hudson Valley NY, the car culture is similar and blowing up cars going to and from college. Mann, I’m convinced that the amount of work you all put in manifested this. Props to you both, most genuine and outgoing RUclipsrs, my personal favorites for a years now. Out here wondering what my Business degree will do for me but I know that I want to be surrounded by cars the rest of my life. Gotta keep working toward it ! Hire me ? 😂
This podcast had such good vibes! Like jimmy and lz always makes for great content, but this was something else. Cool to know all the smaller stories that led up to where jimmy is today!
i have never listened to a whole podcast in my life until now and i enjoyed every second of this. great content!
Appreciate the insight near the end regarding us ME folks. Looking forward to learning to tune on my MS3 in my S/C LS Jeep, even moreso now that Ive heard from you both.
I remember following both of them around 2014, because I was watching Slaptrain on RUclips and he mentioned Adam's strange colored drift car that looked really cool
There needs to be a part 2 of this love theses but this one is my favorite been watching both you since the start much love
Sick podcast, Jimmy's such a down to earth guy, its wild watching them recall their journey together and remembering the moments from watching during those times. Plus its cool that this one was video'ed!
I could listen to you guys talk for days
This was excellent, I enjoyed having some insight to the history of the friends. Please get Taylor Ray on and have a similar style discussion
We'll wait for your sister podcast! Sounds interesting and she could tell us things from your childhood.
Great podcasts!!!
One of my favourite RUclips channels is Jimmy's one. Amazing chap with a bunch of great guys 🤟
My 13 year old self could never imagine what these 2 would accomplish. Still giving me hope at 21, keep killin shit boys I love it.
It just getting better and better! Love the video feed addition!!
His story about being car guy but having to do engineering school while all your friends had real jobs and “money” at the time is so the same story as me this is so nuts how much overlap we had at the same time of life.
THE NEW JERSEY SPECIAL. That’s a very real thing. I’ve gone to jersey 3 times (I live in PA) and have left without the car… 3 times
The ls swap in the garage is what got me watching jimmy. the goat
Hell yeah! The camera adds so much to it! Love it
Man I’ve been watching Jimmy Oaks ever sent his first video he seems like a really cool friend
