- Huge mistake for Blizzard if they do this. Should be delayed so the hype doesn't compete with Shadowlands hype, no reason to do this, completely counterproductive.

I’m almost sure that it wasn’t planned that way. If you look at the original plan shadowlands would release about a month before Christmas. And since people would not all renew there subs over break they wanted them to buy the six month which is probably why nax was put in December. Too help people rationalize the idea of buying the six month.
Idk I’m literally just a guys who probably way too young to play wow. (But I have played since alpha so ;P)
When it comes to these release dates and such - it is 100% not blizzard. War3 reforged players know what’s really up. We got insight on that almost a year ago. There’s pressures and variables you’re not considering.
Plus they make more money with people playing the retail version of the game. Lots more money making options if the player time was invested in retail vs any classic version.
Not saying I agree with these practices but I know it’s not ion and the elitist jerks crew setting dates and shit. Might as well make the video and direct it to the business dudes and marketing teams responsible for this.

Not just that, but executive bonuses might be tied to profitability / subscription numbers. Activision wants to pump up the numbers by the end of the year because most bonuses are paid early in the year based on prior-year results. It's pure greed.
Also just for context azuresong a low pop server has had gates open since August 29th as opposed to med to high kromcrush which was the 11th and skeram which was the 9th 3 weeks total separation
What I'd like to know is how many people play both simultaneously, If the number is too low, it might make sense to adjust the dates like this. Anyway, given the data that we might deduce, I think the organization you suggest is probably better.
I really want to do Naxx.. but I feel like I’ve barely done AQ, and I’ve cleared it every weeks since the gates opened on Sulfuras. My guilds two raid groups still haven’t seen Death’s sting drop, only 1 jom gabbar. And I still need the cape off of prophet, bracers off emps... and a ton of other people still need stuff and we will be barely as geared as we want to be (if we are lucky) wen it comes out. And just out of curiosity if anyone knows, is the time between releases compared to vanilla close to the same from AQ to Naxx? Or is it sooner? I feel like it’s sooner

Exactly, retailers and classic are very divided. So they just want to treat them equally at the same time. I don’t see the problem really
now they have implemented meaningful choices before you even get to the login screen ... what a great idea we need more of those

My guild just got 9/9 in AQ after waiting a month for it to open. Now it doesn't feel like we have had any time in AQ before Naxx is released.
Ah, Naxx. I remember doing the attunement w my guild, having no idea what or why I was doing it, then stepping into my first raid. Good memories. I miss that guild.
Is there a chance this is on purpose so they can analyze which content is most appealed by players and whether or not to continue to make content for classic after naxx?

I agree, I’m not so upset about missing the nax release I can do it later but the pre event with the scourge I want to grind which I can’t really do if I’m playing retail.
Coming from a guild that has three raid teams, we already expected many to take a break after the first few naxx clears, causing us to possibly reduce to two teams. This just makes it even more probable. It's like they work as separate companies instead of one big strategic organization when making these decisions

Here is my thought on what I think they should do: Keep the Naxx release date as scheduled, delay Shadow Lands 'till January 2021 when they finally fix the bugs/issues going on in the beta. They already have TBC Alpha/Beta taking place in March of 2021 and content drought is hitting classic hard right now. Retail imo can hold off on releasing content until things get fixed from the Beta.
Amen, I have the same problem with having to choose between classic and retail, I really love playing both..

One reason they could be doing it is so that they could run analytics and see just how many people are more invested into either Retail or Classic.
Making the players choose will give them a real insight into what the players value more.
This video summarizes my thoughts exactly. My friends that made me jump into Classic on release all quit months ago. But before they quit we had joined a guild, we made a community and I stuck around with that community while my friends went to play Animal Crossing and Fall Guys. Since then I became real great friends with the community we were in and we discussed how we'd try to keep people together into TBC and longer.
But as Shadowlands release came to announcement all my old friends that I've known for years before in WoW resubbed but jumped back in to the end of BFA. We talked it out and the plan was always to do the end of BFA content together, and go through the start of Shadowlands so I wouldn't have to go farm out all the gear from Nya'lotha to be back on par with my friends. And I'd still be raiding Classic with my guild during that but I already had most of my consumes and mats figured out to supplement raid logging Classic when I'm busy hanging with the boys.
But with Naxx releasing so soon, that feels like such a pipe dream now. Because now all the time I wanted to allocate to Shadowlands/Pre-Patch is going to have to still fit into getting all the mats in Classic to raid Naxx on release in a sweaty raiding guild where we're expected to have about 4 times the consumes required for a standard clear on hand for Day 1 raid just in case the raid proves to be more difficult than we think it will be. And really there's not enough time left to farm that out, while enjoying time with my long time friends that want to dive full into Shadowlands unless I end up buying out gold for Classic. So unless they push Naxx back I'm going to be forced to pick between my friends of many years and experiencing Xpac launch hype or Naxx Out hype with the people who have been here with me throughout all of COVID times. So its all just shit.

Genuinely curious here as I play bits of classic but mainly play retail. Is the classic fan base calling out for Naxx to be released yet ? It feels like we could get by with aq40 until late Jan/Feb

Classic only player here and I agree, Even though my guild has already made sure we will have a Naxx raid team. I know there was concern over losing guild members to retail and I'm sure it will be the case for many guilds on my server.

They are testing how it will affect the releseas with the classic and tbc launches with this one!
I really didn't think that they would be releasing both Naxx and Shadowlands so close to eachother.
Just doesn't makes sense from a bussiness point of view to release them on top of eachother.
I expected Naxx maybe right before christmas, maybe Dec 20-ish, so people could play during the holidays. And if not before christmas, I expected a release early January.
Could be that the delay of Shadowlands messed it up a bit, but then you would expect them to push Naxx's release until the timing was right.
They released naxx too soon back in the day too... some people still need more time to clear AQ40...
Just a quick thought: Classic content is already rather easy, since all the stuff is kinda figured out already. A month more of AQ40 means a month more of gear. I dont play retail, but I get your point. For me personally, however, I prefer the early release because then Naxx might not be as much of a faceroll as the rest of the content - yes I know, its will still be a faceroll, but maybe not for sooo many people :P
I completely agree. As someone that got stuck at Four Horsemen in original vanilla, my vow when I first heard classic was coming was to build a guild strong enough to clear Naxxramas. I built a great guild who are more than capable of this, and in the process met a ton of like minded people who also want to play together in Shadowlands. We have been hyped for Shadowlands release and even though the priority is still clearing Naxx, I'm sure we would have tackled some of the raid content in Shadowlands also. To have this stupid release schedule dropped on us at this stage has really taken the jam out of my doughnut. I'm faced with the consideration that I might just not even buy Shadowlands now because I don't want to be distracted from my main goal of Naxx. This is an extremely poor business decision if it goes ahead and it has completely ruined my hype for the release of both products.

I think you are in minority, from what I know. Most people that I know play retail or classic, not both. Sure, there are some that do and you know what, you don't have to clear Naxx the day it comes. Leave it for when SL content is on farm or something. Good thing about Naxx patch is it is there forever after it comes. Zack is in minority that have to do both as content creator but most people won't have an issue.
I'm no content creator and I don't play Classic but I still think it sounds counter productive
Yeah the conflict is extremely minor. I Was excited for Naxx too but in the end it dwarves my interest in a new expansion. There is very little conflict between these two playerbases but Asmon and his infinite time and resources is extremely biased in his experience playing both at the same time. The only time this would've mattered was classic release. Yeah it doesn't help either game, but it a pretty benign thing. My guess is Blizzard knows TBC release matters more and want to push Naxx out as early as possible to justify an earlier TBC release. Correct me if I'm wrong but all the patches have been released earlier than expected.

Couldn't agree more, I love both games, and I am really torn at the moment.
I'm eager to set foot in and clear Naxx with the friends I've made over the last year through classic, but I don't really want both of them to compete for my time and attention - and likely negatively affect my enjoyment of one or the other, if not both. Their release schedule has me somewhat confused and angry for this 'clash' especially since it is also right before the christmas period.

2 seperate project leads both pushing their own date. Maybe even one not wanting to compromise for the other. And no management above them that can say 'lets delay x due to delaying y'
I feel like they had the Naxx release set in stone so that they could do the "what's next" during Blizzcon Online without causing the same issue that happened when Naxx came out in vanilla and almost immediately TBC was announced so people stopped playing because they knew they were going to have to start over in the new expansion. The delay of shadowlands just kind of screwed up the plans overall but they didn't want to jeopardize the Blizzcon Online announcement.
100% agree with you on this one... I am hyped for Shadowlands but I am also hyped for Naxx... I have a weekend guild for Classic and a Tues/Thurs for Retail so I can do it regardless but I would prefer it be spaced out more.... :(

Most of my guildies are exclusively Classic players. Sure, we might lose around 5-7 people, but those can be replaced and tbh I hope that those bailing will get benched when they return to Classic.
Bet people turn to retail again, how can you even sit on classic with that amount of content, i got 15 years on Wow and been on vanilla, classic arent the same and the boredom hits much faster, its a nice substitute for few but thats it.. Then end up playing both. Retail & keep working on achievements and what not.

If they held the original release date this would probably be in the lull period. This might be scheduled way in advance and the shadowlands delay might have messed with the dates.

tbh shadowlands should have been pushed even further, it's not ready. The month they got from the delay is not nearly enought to fix all the problems shadowlands got. They should have had naxx this year and shadowlands for early 2021
I mean they did postpone the SL release, perhaps they set the Naxx patch in motion before they pushed back SL?

Definitely feels like I have to choose and I don’t want to. But if it rolls out like this I probably won’t be playing Shadowlands at least not for a bit. Committed to being fully prepped for Naxx.

I play both and I think the Naxx release is a bit early even tho we have had AQ open since mid August and clearing Cthuun first night, A lot of guildies still need gear from there. I have a lot of freetime so playing both at a glance seems like no problem but as a fury Warrior/Offtank going into Naxx, Im looking at 400-500g of consumes every raid. Thats the problem for me. I will want to play shadowlands and not farm gold and consumes for Naxx and Im not the only one in my guild that play both. It will surely mess up progression and make me feel like I have to choose between progressing on Shadowlands and enjoying the new zones, or farm gold and raid Naxx which ive been looking forward to for years and years...

When people clear Naxx for the first time, only a small portion of people can get their desired loot. They're going to go over and over into it. I'm planning to get full or at least half t3 on my doodoo before I consider it the end of the game. But if TBC comes, it won't be really the end, will it?

Our server (Felstriker) was many weeks late opening the gates to AQ. Our players would have (on average) 1-3 pieces of AQ gear each. We are not prepared...

It seems like they kept the original planned release for Naxx that they had before they postponed Shadowlands. Because if shadowlands had been released in October, this would have been a great release time for Naxx. It would have given about 6 weeks between the shadowlands release and Naxx. Did they forget to update the planned release date or are they just not thinking clearly?

yeah i was excited to try out shadowlands but with the naxx patch coming out 8 days after shadowlands i’m not really going to have time for shadowlands at all. at least not for a while
You have to think from the view of a streamer as well. They are constantly trying to create content which is harder than it looks. Having the games spread out helps with longevity of content creation and is better for them, as well as us the viewers.
i want naxx 2 months later so i can indulge myself in shadowlands and then when i played all i want i could go into naxx

I am a GM of a Classic guild and I know there is at least 10-15 players on my roster that are considerably interested in shadowlands AND Naxx. This release date stands entirely in opposition to their plans for both versions of the game. If this release date stands it will hurt the participation of shadowlands or Naxx depending on a decision players will have to make. Please don't make us have to make that call. Let us enjoy all versions of WoW.

My server Grobbulus purposefully made AQ take like a month longer to open because of ass hole mega guilds trying to get 500 scarab lords so Naxx releasing so early means I don't have my full tier 2.5 yet :3

I do agree with you that it sucks that the expansion and Nax are gonna release really close to each other how ever if its ready I feel like it would suck for those who are playing classic only and are waiting specificly for Naxxramas if it was to be delayed because shadowland got delayed... you gotta keep in mind the people acctually waiting for Naxx are the people that had AQ unlocked for a while.....
I think they want to see what game people will chose.
They must have the data to see that there's not a lot of player overlap between the two versions, that's why they're doing this. + a lot of countries are heading into lockdown now, makes sense to have fresh content available for both versions.

We can only speculate, in my case none of the people I play with plays retail. One thing's for sure tough; we all know that blizzard cares a lot about money, they wouldn't release both Naxxramas and Shadowlands around the same time if they thought they'd miss out on some.
This makes so much more sense than the original plan tbh the last thing people want is to be split between both games
This is a really odd situation. Back when classic was announced there was loads of skeptism that classic releases would be scheduled to fill countent drouts with retail wow. Blizzard said that that wouldn't be the case. And indeed this proves that blizzard is keeping to their own word and the wants of the player base back when classic was announced.
So, is this a situation of the grass is greener on the other side of the hedge?
