Funny thing is most people down here in the comments can't seem to tell that this is a soft demonstration of technique not actual contact. It's for show, not to incapacitate each other like in a real fight.
Impressive Moves, Showmanship, Choreography and Entertaining, Great form of A DYNAMIC EXERCISE to Keep Fit / Healthy and Wise / combined with Proper Nutrition.
The style is NOT a problem. The practicioner is the the one who dictates effectiveness not the art itself. I know AKK men who are dangerous. There are many Effective forms of Kempo jitsu but they still need you. Ever heard of Dan inosanto Benny the Jet Urquidez The Iceman Chuck Liddell Steve Muhammad Michael Jai White is kyokushin Kai kempo GSP Even Bruce freaking Lee studied kempo the Bubishi of Karate do is Kempo and the Empty hand portion of Ninjutsu is Kempo jitsu so piss on the uniformed.👿👹😈💀
I love paul dye. He did a technique on me a few years ago i think in 2012 or 2013 during a seminar my school had. It was awesome to get beat up. Hes a small guy but had great energy. Love that.
Yes, I've seen that. One instructor told us, believe it or not, that if you want to get good at kenpo, do kenpo. If you want to get good at push-ups, do push-ups. The idea of cross training wasn't even considered. Yes, he was very good at kenpo, and he could kick your ass if he followed through when he demonstrated on you. And yes, he was fat.
If in my prime I had a dollar for every time a "fat" judo instructor, or otherwise martial artist, kicked my ass with seemingly endless cardio...Ever see Big Country Roy Nelson? Don't underestimate someone with that kind of power and raw strength...low body fat does NOT and has NEVER constituted superior martial skills. What you see in Hollywood/Hongkong movies is based on the value of selling a physicially appealing product. Granted, should these guys be watching their weight through due diligence in the kitchen, along with strength and conditioning? Certainly that would be of benefit to their health. I believe Master Ed Parker had a fondness for barbeque, and died of a heart attack based on dietary issues. But the man could rip another man's face off four or five times in the time it might take a guy like me to blink. Nuts. Finally, one of the masters you see above, Mr. Paul Dye, carries himself with the humility and air of a friendly office computer coder. He probably isn't going to ever whip up 50 pushups. But here's the magic of the fluid motion of Master Parker's Kenpo: the art teaches such a succinct and efficient form of body movement, that massive power (certainly pounds per square inch) from various point of origin strikes (not just a heavyweight boxer lining up a hook or straight to optimize power), but from seemingly awkward as well as various rotational movements - imagine a man-sized windmill with fists and about a thousand CC engine driving it... Feeling, in this art, truly is believing. Don't let a 60-yer old man's gut fool you into a concussion :)
Ed Parker was a large man himself. If you think their size would inhibit their ability to defend themselves-that would be a mistake. Some of the hardest hitting and accurate martial artists I have cross trained with are Kenpoists. This isn’t a cardio demo or mma display .... this group is legit.
Yamashita, a heavy weight Judoka, was a fat guy. He was undefeated in Judo Arena. Only Teddy Rinner reach his records but still Teddy has a lost in his records.
It's very interesting to see how much more advanced they are compared to me, they can pull off short form 3 without a problem while I am still learning. Very nice.
People commenting negatively on this really don't understand what they are seeing here. The movement presented is done by practitioners that obviously do their moves in their sleep. The attitude of the demos has to be casual to prevent them from killing each other. The older men are definitely higher level martial artists.
9:32 Ouch, Mr. Dye, your man took a straight right on the face from your fist, sir. Impressive as hell at how he shook it off and just kept going. /salute to you both
People who say they can't take it seriously just know that it is meant as self defense primarily in a streetfight where your opponent(s) probably don't know how to fight very well. Most sets won't be used fully or in order, you may take a couple moves from different things to fit what you need to do to stop someone from attacking you.
The higher grades condition their bodys to make closed bear hugs impossible. That's dedication. p.s. : Read some other comments. It's no sin to get fat, and in schools with kickboxing sparring there are even good fighters. It's just that the kenpo-curriculum is very academic and typical for SD arts that don't short spar their sets. But it is nice to watch and fun to move this way. There is no sin in fun either.
I know I am commenting on an old video, but I have to say I have been involved in Kenpo for over thirty years and many other arts, and although not shocked and keeping in mind it's a demo some of these people have some serious technical issues. The one person here kicking with the top of his foot kills me. Another note I saw a comment below about a bunch of old fat guys, I got news for you, you could square off with 50 yo guy that smokes two packs a day and drinks a twelve pack everyday and get your ass handed to you. Kenpo is about the science of combat and filling you bag with as many tools as possible to defend yourself and the ones you care about. Most street fighters have a few things they know works for them and Martial Artist doesn't run out of options.
all of the guys talking trash about kenpo let me tell you guys you have a big mouth if you feel like you are better than them go challenge them then you'll know what kenpo is made
If he's been doing bjj it happens all the time. Personally an instructor for Senshido was talking shit about mma fighters, so I said I'll fight your toughest student no rules. He came to my club to fight me. My coach knew the story, so even though I was still a white belt and he out weighed me by 20 pounds, I tapped him out in the first thirty seconds. By the fourth tap out he was humbled. He's a narcissistic arrogant know it all, but shut up around me from there on. He went to gauge my eyes so I used that to get double unders and and inside reaped him, then arm barred him. It's a bad ambassador for the Senshido. He should have been more humble as a teacher.
Those were just techniques, they're the basics put together in a practical arrangement, and they are usually practiced with a "motionless" attacker, but in American Kenpo we do multiple drills in which the attacker comes at us as if they were actually attacking us. When we have the techniques memorized from a still standpoint before you actually put it into action, it comes more naturally, and it's easier to learn.
How did you learn to speak and spell? You learned the alphabet over time to construct words and sentences to convey meaning or understanding. American Kenpo is the study of motion which Parker broke down to teach concepts. Basics: punch stance etc were the alphabets of motion. self defense/forms are concepts taught in a sequential arrangement like words in a sentence to give it meaning.
Always wondered whether or not the 'chit chat' among the great Chinese, Okinawan, Korean and Japanese masters was chock full of the same kind of 'trash talk' that seem to pepper so many martial arts forums. That one comment of Ed Parker's regarding Bruce Lee also gives one pause. There is much of what one sees in archival footage of interviews with Lee which is punctuated with sneer and attitude. Reviewing the evolution of so many of these styles across the past 100 years, I have come to the conclusion that the concept of replacing ego and arrogance, with humility has not yet been achieved. In reading Shoshin Nagamine Sensei's book about his life in Matsubayashi Shorin-ryu, and some of the issues he encountered, I was left with that impression. His philosophy expressed in Chapter III is very detailed, thoughtful and profound. But I don't see it reflected in much of what I read amongst 'the faithful'. There is more octagon- than dojo-mindset in these arts.
If they're going to be called the "Dream Team"...make sure every one is in tip top shape. Lot of these guys could stand to loose 50+ lbs...Be of a similar build. ..age...this IS a demonstration team after all. At least they didn't play music from Top Gun again in one of their kata demo shows with Jeff Speakman where they used "Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins". :)
yeah you are dead right man, gentlemen clearly in their fifties and sixties who are still being active should be perfect well muscled athletes. Oh wait no that's stupid, these dudes are old and gained weight like most people generally do. These dudes are teachers, not competitive athletes.
I've been teaching Kenpo for forty years and I was so embarrassed to watch this. I'm 73 and I move as fast and strong as someone in their early fifties, or younger. Watching those two dough boys struggle to perform Kenpo was shocking to see. To cover up the inadequacies, they would scream. All that screaming everyone did was not necessary. To yell at certain points, would have been enough. i met GrandMaster Parker years ago and i can not imagine him allowing something like this to take place. I love Kenpo and one should keep their bodies in shape to work Kenpo properly. Shame, shame. That's correct, the belt only means that you've learned the knowledge, not that you have the skill to perform it. To have and maintain the skill, one has to practice their whole life time. Sifu
for those of you who are taking shit about this calling it a mcdojo or they are living in fantasy land let me remind you that Chuck liddell is a 5th degree black belt in American kenpo so if this is a mcdojo the you mc-dont know what your fucking talking about.
Its not even funny, a couple of the younger black belts are still flexibe to do high kicks, but the higher ranked black belts look like they'd be good in an ad for the American Heart Foundation, on obesity.
that big 8th degree black belt moved like total SHIT! He should be ashamed of himself. I'm a purple belt from back when the system was 24 techniques for each belt and I move WAY more crisp that that guy. How in the what the hibidy hoo blah in the tarnation gave that man 8 degrees let alone a black belt 😳
ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!!! I was a purple belt and moved WAY better than these so called "black belts". pfft, I don't know what fuckin dance school these cheer leaders went to but that's not fuckin Kenpo! "dream team" my ASS! Mr Parker is turning over in his grave!
@@nomore1371 Yeah man. I'm just an orange belt, working toward purple for Feb., and I don't feel like its my place to comment and what not, but I just get pissed when I see people mispresenting kenpo and mocking the system. It really makes my blood boil. So many belt factories. Also, there are a ton of high rank techniques on the internet, and people often say "youl never pull that off" without understnading the context of the video. Its not like mma. Kenpo is like the medical school of martial arts. Those 100 move techniques are like the fourth year smh. Just a dumb analogy, but its always ripped and ridiculed out of context.
The Girls are the fittest and most skilled practitioners in this video. The rest are fat guys. One must have a waistline of at lest forty six inches to be promoted beyond fourth dan in Kenpo.
as much as people talk trash, im a former martial arts trainer with 12 years in tae kwon do 5 years in jujitsu and 4 years in krav maga. at first i was like what the hell is going on but as much as people think this school is a scam it isnt that bad they have alot of good self defense technique notice self defense techniques this isnt a mma school to teach you how to fight mano e mano like mma these are techinques used to stop an opponent fast basically protecting yourself. not see who can take the most pain and at the end see whose left standing.
When I was a boy, I found this stuff really impressive. When I was a young man training in multiple systems, I found it distracting. When I began teaching, I found it boring. When I'd been in a good few scraps and was running my own school, I became sure of what I'd suspected for a while - it's bullshit.
baldieman64 that just means you sucked at ai thats all. Works just fine for ne in my "SCRAPS". Who was your instructor? Just because you can't make something work for you doesnt mean that no one else in the world can't. Some people just suck at fighting no matter what they try and learn. 😂
clearly you just sucked at it...doesn't mean the fighting sucks. evidence has proven that martial arts are far more superior and effective than weapons...which is why the USA should erase NRA...teach security and police to fight...and only the military should be allowed to use firearms...and any person caught with firearms should receive immense punishment...like where they have to pay an amount of money so huge they will never want to do it again type of punishment...or you know...lock them up. the whole "right to bear arms" custom in America is outdated and let's be honest...they made that law when we didn't have weapons that were as deadly as today...considering today's situation..it's time to reconsider that law. military have the right...but not anyone else.

What is your martial arts background? Are you familiar with Kenpo as it was brought to this country by Ed Parker? If not, perhaps your familiarity with another system has narrowed your vision.
I have 17 years of American Kempo and it's master Parker's Kempo. Besides Kempo, I have already practiced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Aikido. Hope this answers your questions.
How do you make the person attacking freeze in place while you are punching them 3 4 times?. Once I learn that I will go to UFC and make lots of money.
Its a learning process. Just like you learn set techniques/entries in Brazilian Jujutsu or wrestling. They're not techniques carved in stone that you MUST do EXACTLY, they're teaching/learning tools as much as they are self defense moves. Also pay attention to what the attacker is doing, its pretty obvious its an every day attacker, not a trained fighter. You don't see self defense techniques in sparring because...they're self defense techniques not sparring techniques. Not every situation starts with two guys with their guard up bouncing around like boxers. Most real violence starts verbally, with a dirty look, pushing, shoving, threats, posturing, etc. The situation itself is not as dynamic as if you were already "fighting" with the guy (which can also happen obviously), the idea is to AVOID a fight (brawl)..so this is what usually happens during that gray area after the "oh shit" button goes off (you realize it's about to get physical), and an all out 'fight' explodes. Again the idea is to explode on the guy while you have the chance, take him out fast, and go home, not giving him a chance to turn it into a contest, because he almost certainly has some kind of advantage, be it a weapon, intoxication, buddies, or at least size and strength.
what the fuck do all those movements mean? i did karate for a few years learning kata thinking that this is a way to practice these moves in a manner that would simulate some real life experience. a lot of those moves seem silly and ineffective. im sure my comments will spark outrage but i have had enough of instructors telling me they can block any punch i throw because they can see my aura. i think a semi pro boxer would destroy any of these conmen
+ninjaman1138 Boxers can't kick. It's ok to have your own opinion. These guys above have a 'similar' formula. I know the form they did in the beginning is called 'short 3.' It's a blue belt form. The first form to use strictly techniques. Each form has a theme behind it. Each technique has extensions. It has different situations packed in as well. These techniques are no joke. Sure, these guys are fat and many in this comment section find it funny or humorous, as do I. Ed Parker on the other hand, was HUGE. Very humble and didn't strike people as a 'I can beat you up'. His intuitive ideas caught on and obviously was a body guard for Elvis Presley.
You're not wrong. It's American Kenpo 'karate'; the entire organization is like a cult. Don't take me wrong, there are most likely many Kenpo practitioners with the right mindset and have so become very good martial artists. But Ed Parker was, from my perspective, just a scam; and hence, the kata they perform have often very little practical meaning. That said, i'm not dissing kata. I believe it's an excellent way to improve your entire martial arts game (through practising the basics), but if the kata is flawed it loses all value.
Is it just me or is American Kenpo all about swirling and stomping? Apart from that recognize parts of Wing Tsun and Wu Shu Kung Fu mixed up with typical Karate Uchis...
Negative comments come from over inflated ego and people who maybe studied one Art for a couple years. Yes if you don't know the techniques behind the move it may seem to you that they are waving at air. Compared to other Arts American Kenpo takes longer to achieve black Belt - 6 years. This is just a demo There is a lot of contact in real practice. Negative commenters probably couldn't make it though a Kenpo technique line for more than the first few techniques withinin a lower level
American Kenpo isn't even technically traditional. It was developed by an American Street fighter who took bits and pieces from kajukenbo, judo, boxing, and karate. He also trained with bruce lee. Ed Parker is his name
Gman6755 That's because they only used the highest ranking folks there. The 2nd 3rd and 4th degree guys when it should have been the younger, more explosive practitioners. These guys aren't even trying.

The last part was sarcastic it was in reference to a person I think Jack in the Box that said he can learn that in that time.
Difficult to accomplish, but Mr. Parker never had a time minimum for advancement.
Ed Parker left such a legacy. I wish as many people knew about him as they do Bruce Lee
Ed Parker said he thought Bruce was very arrogant. Then he said after seeing Bruce Lee in action he had every right to be.
kjvwolfslayer Exactly. Many great athletes are so overconfident to the point of arrogance.

Sifu
I agree. Too much screaming. A kiyah is not a scream
Great job! Keep up the training!
Exelente sistema de defenza contra maniquies o companeros de entrenamiento.
for those of you who are taking shit about this calling it a mcdojo or they are living in fantasy land let me remind you that Chuck liddell is a 5th degree black belt in American kenpo so if this is a mcdojo the you mc-dont know what your fucking talking about.
AWESOME!
Six months of boxing or wrestling and you would destroy every one of these clowns.
Then prove it. I do Kenpo and our school does mma/Kickboxing every week and ive smashed countless kids in my town who "box "
Its not even funny, a couple of the younger black belts are still flexibe to do high kicks, but the higher ranked black belts look like they'd be good in an ad for the American Heart Foundation, on obesity.
Those billboards, I mean uniforms, are subtle. When trying to make such a living from the arts the chances are high you end up looking like a clown.
that big 8th degree black belt moved like total SHIT! He should be ashamed of himself. I'm a purple belt from back when the system was 24 techniques for each belt and I move WAY more crisp that that guy. How in the what the hibidy hoo blah in the tarnation gave that man 8 degrees let alone a black belt 😳
Great moves & techniques but It’s still no contact how can u possibly get tough with out ever being hit ?
Awesome 👍👍👍
buenisimo
Was the man with the staff doing staff set.
kicks at 5:44 are so slow...
These ppl are over ranked. It's one hell of an awesome system with the right sensei's not these motorcycle drivers
Damn, that air got beat up bad.
You telling me he was kicked in the head and when kicked in the head he goes flying like that? 07:20
Esta técnica o escuela está en México ? Y si es así dónde ?
is it really necessary to screech all the time whne doingkarate? :/
One guy had good kicks.
+baldieman64
So.... your inability to fight is someone else's fault?
baldieman64 that just means you sucked at ai thats all.
@@IDyce88 u are so lost on y our for father's included 2a, some scum bag that dosent give a rip about "only cops should have bang sticks" u feel legit enuf to hand to hand fight him over the gun w ur family at stake? Or a tyranical government rolls in,what ya gonna do " hyea! Karate!"
@@roygresser5299 better that than a random person buying a gun and going ham on a school or mall...or blowing themselves up like those two dumbass teenagers. does anyone else remember the "i hate mondays woman"
I'm a Sifu 10th degree my variation (AKJ-American Kenpo of American Kenpo. It was fair, but I've seen them do better.
Paul Dye is a bad ass
Is that Jeff Speakman?
I get lost when the demo guy gets hit 30 times and stays unrealistically in the same spot frozen.... I do love kenpo though
Oh yeah .......atesaaaaaa
If this is what the 5th degree black belts are then I'm a bit disappointed
What is your martial arts background? Are you familiar with Kenpo as it was brought to this country by Ed Parker? If not, perhaps your familiarity with another system has narrowed your vision.
I have 17 years of American Kempo and it's master Parker's Kempo. Besides Kempo, I have already practiced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Aikido. Hope this answers your questions.
Not all kenpo masters work this way. There are good kenpo masters around. Check videos of masters like Larry Tatum or Adolfo Luelmo (Spain).
Dr Disease Yes, thank you. These comments sections are too often the playgrounds of naysayers who know not what they do.
I agree. The attacks given in each move or so out of reality. Very useless art.
Jissenkempo Perfect answer, i hope everyone reads your response.
This is most likely BURGER KING KENPO PARKER !
Walter Herro all of your styles at shit because you ain't shit people comment on what the dont know but your popcorn schools haven't shown us shit
HAHAHA!
Y tu que practicas bro?
The higher your belt the bigger your stomach?
They know the art is bullshit how they were taught
fcuking funny
what the fuck do all those movements mean?
i did karate for a few years learning kata thinking that this is a way to practice these moves in a manner that would simulate some real life experience. a lot of those moves seem silly and ineffective. im sure my comments will spark outrage but i have had enough of instructors telling me they can block any punch i throw because they can see my aura. i think a semi pro boxer would destroy any of these conmen
+ninjaman1138
Boxers can't kick.
An amateur boxer would take these guys apart.
I'm sorry I can't help laughin
Ed Parker Advanced hair tournament.
I know the staff set at the 5:00 minute mark; that man butchered the hell out of it.
🤣 they all sucked. The 1st degree BB who did kicking set💀
looks like the school where you get a black belt in 2yrs, I have seen green/purple belts with better form and technique.
Why a Chinese salutation by a Japanese art?
Because it is Chinese Karate
This is what TMA has become...
Not more then silly moves and trolling yourself..
Im ashamed...
//Fellow TMA
American Kenpo isn't even technically traditional. It was developed by an American Street fighter who took bits and pieces from kajukenbo, judo, boxing, and karate. He also trained with bruce lee. Ed Parker is his name
I like the blonde 😊
As for the rest, there’s some pretty OK stuff here and there.
This is the gayist shit that I've seen in years. Thank you.
Dream team? This isn't even how good Kenpo can look, what a joke, this is what gives Ed Parkers Kenpo a bad name.
The bo was good.
They look more like an aging bowling team, sorry...
Gman6755 That's because they only used the highest ranking folks there. The 2nd 3rd and 4th degree guys when it should have been the younger, more explosive practitioners. These guys aren't even trying.
Chris D Yeah, I agree with you. Old karate guys with big bellies do not impress much...
Ayah.....essah.....eyaiiii........ arghhhhhh...... ahhhhh..... aight.....
Applause.
Gman6755 show up and challenge one...ill pay for your plane ticket :)
Kris C lol..... cmon they're old fat fucks...... not athletes.🤤
Why the biger guys, beats the smaller ones... I dont get IT... Where is the Art in it? 🤔
Hiyahh...
Only thing I like in this clip is the blonde female standing at the end.
