    I love swampland off of a river. I have a Go-Devil and as long as I can take a boat in it is considered navigable water and legal. That Go-Devil has given me access to areas that I believe most guys would consider too dangerous to try to get to (as the "land" access is very sketchy and even if you killed a deer, it would kill you dragging it out". With the boat and a winch on the deck, I can make easy work of what would normally be very difficult.
    It has given me access to one area next to a private hunt club that has size qualifications to kill deer on their land, the marsh off the river butts right up to their spot, and I have never seen another soul in that marsh! You've inspired me to find ways to get away from the public on public land...thanks Dan!

    Oh the optimism, scouting and finding a new spot, The anticipation, that everything will work out. and then, not a deer to be seen, and a long walk out in the middle of the dark. ! But it’s the anticipation, the thrill of the new spot that keeps you going back again and again and again and again and again to new spots !

Please consider putting together a video that details the time frame of your archery buck kills - as in, when you killed them and what activity they were engaged in. This would be some great insight into when is the best time to score on a true trophy like some of the beasts you have gotten. Thanks again, Sir.

    It's really difficult right now in northern MN to do any scouting. The horse flies are absolutely insane. They overwhelm all senses, so intense and unrelenting. Even with long sleeves and a hat, they will go after your ears, hands, and even bite right through your shirt. You'd have to have a full on net over your head, a jacket and gloves and it's just way too hot and way way too thick for that. Just got in from getting some cards and envy you guys to have no real bugs. I was in a peat moss black spruce swamp earlier for blueberry and the flies aren't quite as bad out there but as soon as you even get near the hardwoods the flies are so fierce. A person would quickly go mad.

Other spot I checked, there were lots of doe and fawn tracks with potholes where water stood for a bit and lots of oak trees. However, besides. Pinch point I never found any distinguishable trails where I could possibly put a camera or set up. Would this be a rut spot, an early season acorn spot or how do I go about picking a tree to put my odds in my favor

Not just gloves for cleaning, but gloves for actually fishing or holding a fish for pictures. Dan I watch you all the time my wife says she hears you in her sleep hahaha. I got a question I have found a brutes bed and have it figured out waiting on seasons opening and south west wind how ever there is another buck bedding directly up wind about 250 yard from where I’m going to place my stand and he is my back up buck being this year he will cross into the mature buck threshold at 4 years old. Would would you do? I have no pics scared to leave scent this is off seeing a 6ft diameter Lima bean shaped bed with a rub in it with a waist high rub and the back up buck I jumped him out his bed back in February post season scouting

    • @thehuntingbeast
      @thehuntingbeast  2 года назад

      Are you certain its different bucks using the bedding areas? The reason I ask is mature bucks use several bedding areas and different bucks will use his either when he is not there, or when he allows it (usually outside of rut) I would consider stage hunting. Hunt the 1st one, then the second. If your convinced the 1st bed does not have your shooter, go ahead and go past.

    • @waccamawmumble1302
      @waccamawmumble1302 2 года назад

      It’s around 95 acres of clear cut that is flooded grown up in cat tails and briar. I’ve seen several bucks in there I hate to put a picture of the map on here to show you what I’m dealing with but it’s a long hike thru some nasty stuff and everyone around here baits and are pretty lazy and the deer feel safe in there. I’m an arborist and one day I took my tree climbing gear and climbed to the to of a tall tree and watched with binoculars and counted over 20 different bucks one day. You can see their horns thru the tops of the grass but no shot from a rifle or an ethical at least. But I’m certain they ar different bucks do to the difference in track size

  • @_jurist
    @_jurist 2 года назад +2

    Gutting a deer with gloves on is the best experience you will ever know. Gutted deer for 20 years without wearing gloves, And now I can’t go back. You pull off the gloves, you don’t have tallow and shit all over in your fingernails and everywhere. You pull the gloves off and turn them inside out and then they are clean, put those in your backpack to throw away you don’t leave them in the woods. Put your deer on your cart or your sled And make the track. Your gun is not Full of tallow and crap and everything you touch after you gut a deer. I don’t care if there’s water, and leaves and grass you can’t get your hands clean.
    I now carry multiple sets of long sleeve cutting gloves in my dead deer pack.

    I could use some help. I currently hunt heavy ag land where the only deer habitat is pockets and lines of trees along small creeks, and patches of grass where the ground is too wet/soft to drive a tractor over. Pockets of which can be hundreds of yards to miles apart from each other.
    Im having a heck of a time accessing the land without spooking any deer, it seems no matter what time of day (or night) I head in to set up im blowing out deer, and they don’t return for a few days.

      @thehuntingbeast  2 года назад +4

      I like to sit back a day or two and watch the deer with a spotting scope from long distance and seeing where they are vulnerable. It might take an extreme round about way of getting to a position, or maybe sitting back farther after observing where the target heads, or maybe even finding a different access to the land.
