50 hours give or take , hallucinations happen to me , mostly seeing stuff out of the corner of the eye , generally i think its a spider or when i really screw up and watch/read horror stuff while that tired i think i see shadowy wisps , but by far the scariest things are when u ponder life while that tired , i got depressed after doing that a couple times but all that aside generally staying up that long you can train your body to stay up longer. the hardest thing is staying up so long that your not tired anymore and when u do try to sleep you cant.

A strange one for me this one....
As a child/teenager, I found staying awake all night or being awake for 24 hours or so quite easy, so long as I was engaged and active and not just sitting around.
However, now I'm in my twenties, I now regularly work very excessive hours and work on a day and night shift rota covering all hours. But despite this, I simply cannot cope with sleeplessness like I used too.
If I don't sleep at all on a night, I can pretty much write the next day off, I don't get anything done. I usually become nauseous, confused, even sometimes feel feverish and develop a migraine. Only remedied by sleep.

I've gone without sleeping for 72 hours over this summer.
I can easily say that my concentration was HEAVILY burdened by this.
The microsleeps happened too. I would fall asleep for a couple seconds, then wake up.
I didn't experience hallucinations, but I can say that nothing felt real. My brain was all tossed up about whether I was dreaming, or actually awake. I felt drunk. Overall, it was really awful.
Let me just say one thing: DON'T do what I did. I regret it even now for the effects it had on my concentration. Even now my school grades are being affected.
    Just... Please don't.

I moved back with my mom and my mental health improved a lot. When I switched schools things got even more better. My self confidence went up. I had supporting friends. I went about 40 hours or so without sleep because of some major family health emergencies that happened at the same time. The hospital was 20 miles from my house and the room had no couch and a stiff chair. I drove home at around 39 hours and was having “micro sleeps” while driving. Truly terrifying, luckily the car I was in had lane keep assist and radar cruise so it kinda drove for me on the highway and prevented me from crashing. After like the third micro sleep or autonomous mode I started panicking and realized I was probably gonna crash if I didn’t stay awake, so I blared the stereo to keep me up. I made it home safe and slept for like 12 hours. I don’t think I had ever fell asleep that quick as soon as I hit the bed.

The longest I've gone without sleep was for 9 days. I have a sleep disorder. I don't really remember much, other than what I've been told. Apparently I constantly talked about how there was a entity of some sorts and said that if it heard me I'd die. My friends also said that I had a habit of doing these microsleeps at random times.
Thankfully it ended after my doc prescribed me some pills to help me sleep, but he only did it as a last resort and told me I'd have been admitted to a psychiatric hospital had my mum not convinced him against it.
So yeah, I guess I almost died from sleep deprivation, according to the doctor.

I'm currently conducting an experiment: How long can I stay up? Right now it's 4:36, March 14, 2023. I haven't slept in 66 hours. It's definitely hard to concentrate and sometimes I do have less intense microsleeps that are more like urges to lay down and close my eyes. After about two days, you surpass tiredness. I've never had alcohol before, but it feels like what I imagine being drunk to be like. You're not tired, but just zoned out and distant. But strangely enough, there are times where I'm at 100% capacity! It's super weird and I wanna see what happens from here.

    • @NoahPhillips31
      @NoahPhillips31 Год назад +1

Update 1: It's 10:22 PM on 3/16/23 (108 hours in) Microsleeps have gotten far more intense. I'm honestly not sure if I'm hallucinating yet, but I'm scared to find out. I have fallen asleep from exhaustion once, but it was only for an hour and I couldn't help it. (By the way, the experiment ends when I give in and intentionally sleep for a long period.)

I've once gone 3 nights without sleeping. The problem was that after the first restless night, the next night I was afraid that I couldn't sleep again. This made sleeping even harder and the third and final night was even worse.
Nowadays, I still have a sleepless night every now and then. It's important not to freak out. Make the best of it, try and stay productive and do your tasks that don't require much concentration and, if you haven't slept for more than 2 nights, you will eventually sleep again and nobody has ever died from not sleeping.

I’ve gone around 36 hours without sleep on one or two occasions (ie, waking up one morning and not going to bed until the evening of the next day.) It was like routine sleep deprivation, just with bigger crashes and “highs” when your body gets a second wind...and of course, requiring more effort to look normal for everyone else

    Here's an interesting sleep-related story...
I started playing Tetris 99 on the Nintendo Switch for the first time one night. Surprisingly, I found it extremely addictive and played almost nonstop for 30 hours without any sleep. I began around 10 PM and played until about 7 AM two days later.
I had no intention of playing for so long--it was simply because I found the game so addictive.
It's been a few years since this happened, and I haven't played it again.

Your head also has an unpleasant sensation and your face feels weird and your eyes hurt slightly. It’s torture but you will live.

I've approached something around 36 hours when I was younger. Now in my mid-20s I can easily handle being awake for 24h but I can feel how it affects my immune system and ability to think.

  • @LordRayken
    @LordRayken 5 месяцев назад

I stayed awake around 40 hours when I was 21. I was coming back from an amusement park and yes, I was driving. It was insanely difficult. I felt like I was no longer in my body or controlling a car, and I lost my 3D vision. I lost all depth perception. Cars around me looked 2D, like flat images of cars, and the cars in front of me... I knew they were in front of me, or off in the distance, but they appeared as flat images. So the tail lights/trunk/rear of the vehicles just looked like flat pictures to me. It was really bizarre and I think that's the only reason the memory is so vivid in my mind despite how sleep deprived I was. It didn't matter how hard I concentrated or squinted or focused, the whole world was out of focus to me. I didn't have much ability to do anything other than follow the GPS directions. I also remember when I shifted lanes or got off the highway I felt like I was barely in control and was ready to get into a car accident or hit someone but I didn't. I was almost entirely unaware of what was around me even though I was looking, nothing was registering. I have no doubt now that I'm much older doing something like this would be insanely bad for me and would wipe me out for days but because I was 21 I got through it, but it was definitely a really poor decision to drive.

I stood awake for 72 hours writing a 20-page paper (procrastination at its finest) and by day two was feeling paranoid. I was nervous because I thought I would get an F and thus felt my room was shaking but then thought I was the one shaking. I felt like I was high on something I've never consumed. Word of advice: Do NOT procrastinate and do not go more than a day without sleep; it really is a terrible feeling.

I was working full time, four days on, four days off and I went back to college to get a degree. Since I was working four days on, four days off, there would be an overlap with my class schedule where I would leave work (worked overnight) and would go straight to class. Then after class I would have about 2-3 hours before I had to be back at work. So there would be times where I wouldn’t sleep for three days. My son was still a kid at the time he came downstairs where I was and I honestly thought I could see him coming down the stairs and rounding the corner (there was a wall there). I guess this counts as hallucinations but I saw him through the wall and I followed watching him as he rounded the corner. I joked with him at the time saying if you want superpowers, just don’t sleep for a few days! The other symptoms was the mental fog and not being able to concentrate well, and my legs would swell, since I wasn’t lying down and allowing my heart to pump the water retention out of my lower body. What is strange is after you’ve stayed up a couple days, you feel better and you think you’re doing fine. Then your system says, nope! Time to sleep!
I ended up graduating as valedictorian. Don’t know how I did it, and I wouldn’t do it again, and the no sleep thing was no fun at all!

The longest I stayed up was around 38 hours. I was trying to finish an art project for a minor in college and procrastinated like an idiot when I had either a week or 2 weeks to do it.
I stayed up doing it then walked to the train station to go to school. It felt so weird walking and my eyes were hurting from the sun. I had some minor auditory hallucinations in the station which was mostly empty since it was midday; it was like a crowd of people were talking in the distance.
Then I reached school and struggled to stay awake but fortunately that was the only class I had for the day. I went home, ate something and then crashed for nearly 12 hours which didn't feel like enough but I definitely felt significantly better.
I had other moments where I pulled all nighters due to school but only a handful of times and even fewer times outside of school (one to reset my poor sleep schedule during the summer and another due to massive anxiety the night before starting my first full time job).

I went through 5 full nights of no sleep, which was during the worst time of my life and the worst for my mental state, my blood pressure was through the roof due to anxiety and fear of things going on in my life and could not get a wink of sleep. after the fifth night, I ended up getting into a huge argument with my significant other during which I completely blacked out and found myself in the streets barefoot, under the rain, I later on had auditory hallucinations for the first and only time thankfully in my life. sleep is no fucking joke. I've also realized nothing and no hardships are worth fretting over and worrying about to that extent, not even the fear of going to jail for simply being gay. I guess this whole experience made me into a fearless person, talk about a blessing in disguise...

ok so, on new year’s eve i didn’t sleep that night. I also didn’t eat or drink that day either, and sat at my computer screen for the whole day. That night though, i started getting dizzy and my skin went pale. I started screaming out of control and my parents came rushing down telling me to calm down. I started getting tunnel vision as i felt the world was fading away from me. Each or every 5 minutes i kept thinking i was going to get a heart attack. When my mom asked what day it was to check if i could remember, i said it was “August 27th”. I think i said that because it was the first date that came to mind. I couldn’t watch anything because each time i did i didn’t understand anything i forgot what the video was about. I slept that night and the next day, i was completely fine. But the weird thing is, i could remember everything. I hated it so much so since then, i’ve slept everyday. GO TO SLEEP KIDS OR YOULL END UP LIKE ME

I would mumble and I would lay there motionless. When 2 days rolled around, I finally fell asleep and stayed asleep for about 14 hours before waking up and struggling to use the restroom. After a couple hours awake I fell back asleep and slept about 10 hours before I fully was able to resume normal activities. Ever since then I have gotten nowhere close to going past 26-30 hours.

If I miss a whole days sleep; you would think that I would sleep loads the next time I sleep, but I don't. However it is on the following sleep attempt that I sleep loads. This is almost always the same counter-intuitive situation, every time I miss a days sleep like this. I have been fascinated by why this is the case.
