KTM India gave me the keys to a 390 Adventure for 5 days. We packed up our stuff and went on a 1000+ km ride to test out how capable an adventure tourer the motorcycle is. In this video, we share our experience on the ride to Goa and our initial impressions about the motorcycle. Stay tuned for a detailed review of the motorcycle in the days to come.

Very professional, no overacting and straight to point. Lovely vlog and very well presented. Finding a non-hysterical moto vlog these days is very difficult.
Haha thank you bro. No point trying to be someone else in front of the camera. Ride safe man ✌🏻😊
This is how exactly this bike is going to be usedby 80% to 90% owners. Because not everyone are pro off-roaders out here. The whole idea of purchasing this bike is "It will munch miles on highways with better average speeds and will be comfortable on bad patches that our country have."
There's people on Tigers and Gss that do the same. I believe the affordability of parts for this and the xpluse will push people to go offroading more. Time will tell though.
Off road takes a lot of skill and plenty of time invested in practicing those skills along with proper traing and infrastructure.... which will happen in time to come.
Off road on big adv is still in nascent stage in India
Greetings from Canada, I don’t speak your local language but I think it’s great that you mixed a lot of English in! It was a good video to watch, thanks :)
Glad you liked the video. Ride safe ✌🏻
That is a very neat saddle bag setup. I plan to buy the adv 390 and tour with a pillion. Would you recommend the rynox nomads without saddle stays ? Do they leave enough space for the pillion rider's legs ? Or are there better options in your opinion ?
They had just enough space for the pillion's feet to be on the pegs. This was a media motorcycle that was given to me for the ride so I made it work (without any issues). If you're sure that you'll be touring with the same setup frequently, saddle stays will make it easy. You could still do without it but it would just make it easier.
Is the ktm 390 adventure really the best option for touring with pillion and with full luggage load.....????
From most of the adventure motorcycles that I've had a chance to ride so far, only the Tiger and the Multistrada worked better than this (for a pillion).and you know how much of a price gap that is ;)
yesterday i clocked 1100 km in 17hr with just 2 breaks actually faster than google this time half and hour ,but that stress in eyes are still there watching your videos .People really don't appreciate long rides but i do it alone and it feels good coz no stop to wait again for shitty things which some time discourage you to clock long time on saddle
did u use a saddle stay for the saddle bags sir did it touch the tyre or exhaust?if so brand name and cost? ....and awesome video keep riding....
Hey oggy! I have a question
M looking for an upgrade from my "trustworthy" RE Thunderbird 350
So do u think I should go for the KTM 390 ADV. Or the Interceptor 650? (Ik they are two different bikes from two completely different genre)
My ride for almost 45kms everyday and I don't mind switching to KTM
All the features offered by KTM are pulling me towards it but the Interceptor's engine is holding me back
Which one according to u feels faster and brisk?
How's the ADV 390 for daily commuting and which one according to u is easy to handle in bumper to bumper Mumbai traffic
Love your videos❤
Hope to meet u someday
Cheers🍻
Hey Ved. I'd personally pick the ADV over the interceptor. It's more of an all rounder right out of the showroom. I think the interceptor is a great city bike and with a few mods can tour too. Check @motoringscribe on Instagram
He's made some very basic mods to his interceptor to make it more usable. Also, the ADV works very well in city traffic too. The interceptor does heat up a bit and if your leg touches the engine, there's a high chance you'll feel it for a while. When they're moving though the interceptor engine wins... It feels like it pulls much harder and is very smooth.
@@OggyF thank you for your elaborate reply!❤❤
How did you find the quickshifter to be? Didn't see you using it much but if you did, what's your take on it?
Also, I've owned a '17 D390 prior to which I had an R3. I always felt the 6th gear on that to be pointless 'cuz if I happen to short shift even a bit, say, between 85-95kph, all I'd hear is the chain and it just felt kinda unrefined. Started keeping it in 5th most of the time since then. Have you ever felt this? Asking since you must be familiar to a 390's engine nature and have also ridden other multi cylinder bikes so you'd have a good point of comparison. Thanks!
Didnd't use the quickshifter + much cause it wasn't as refined as I expected it to be. I hear there's a software update that some owners are receiving that smoothens it out...not sure though. I keep my RC in 5th too cause 6th doesn't do much . IMO 3rd gear is where the real fun is at on the 2017 RC but then again, I'm from mumbai and getting past 4th is a rare thing. The adv really doesn't do much in 6th..or atleast it doesn't feel like it does..guess it's because of the extra tooth in the rear sprocket.
Heyyy! Your vlogs are so good.. Basically its the first time I'm here on your channel and i just loved it... Well done manh.. Great job..!
Thank you Pranav. Glad you liked the video. Ride safe.
Sup Oggy.. question.. What kind of saddle bags did u guys use and. Is it also possible to install a top box bracket n box of shad or givi and.. Would it then still have enough space for pillion to sit n lean back?....
Ohh nevermind... I scrolled below and saw that you have already discussed abt...the acvesories in detail..

Hey bro
Just wanted to check and know which bike is the best D400 or KTM ADV.... Not sure if you had test ride both the bikes and felt the better one..
Rayan from Bangalore
I personally prefer the ADV. I'd suggest you test ride them both though before buying.
Did the vibrations irritate you... Is it manageable?? And yeah how was the reliability of this?? Usually KTMs are unreliable... Did you face any electronic issues or engine failure etc??
Hi.. Did the saddle bag sit fine? I am assuming there is no saddle stays on that bike you were riding and wanted to check if by any chance the bags touched the tyre or exhaust..
The right saddlebag touched the exhaust but didn't cause any damage. Nothing touched the tyre
Hi Oggy, which bike was better in comfort from seat point and driving, with and without pillion as you have driven both to goa ?
Hey Oggy, I currently own an Interceptor 650 but isn’t enjoying the long rides due to seating discomfort over long hours on saddle. My overall understand from your review is that the seating comfort is a lot better on KTM 390 Adv. Q - If you have to compare the seating comfort b/w Suzuki V strom, Versys 650 & 390 Adv, which one is better? Thanks!
ADV 390, Versys 650(close 2nd) and then the vstrom. The suzuki was a bit more sportier. Again all 3 are comfortable, my body frame would be different from yours... Tets ride and decide 😊
@@OggyF Test ride for a 15-20min do not help understand the seating comfort over long hours. Thanks for the response. it helped.
@@kaushikchanda2291 that's true... It would however give you a fair idea of which one you take the least amount of time to get used to... That's a good indication of comfort.
Hi looking to buy D390 Adv or the D400 with primary purpose of touring and occasional touring with a pillion (girl). Will use the motorcycle for 6 years atleast so need good reliablity durablity and comfort + good cruising speed of 120kmph without any strain to engine which one du u recomend ??
Personally, I'd go for the 390 ADV. Better electronics and comfort than the Dominar.
@@OggyF Tq so much and btw nice gesture of your reply !
Hey Mate, I am a Dominar 400 owner and wanted to upgrade to the DV section. As usual budget is limited so cant keep the eye on 650 segments like versys or Vstorm650. I was thinking in between 390/GS and Trk502 (max). Purpose is to have the Big bike feel and long hours on the saddle without any issues. 80% tarmac and 20% offroad is the requirement. So let me know your views between these 3. Cheers !!
Very thoughtful reviews man. I'm considering RR310 BS6. Will you recommend that for Shorter commute and weekend rides ?
Thank you. Yes the RR310 would serve that purpose well.
I changed my mind yesterday and cancelled RR310 and Booked ADV 390.
No it's not just your video review tbh there was some issues with the dealer ( they've delaying the delivery from last 2 weeks + also tvs service is feedback is not as good as ktm ). After discussing with few friends I went to the KTM dealer & Booked this bike. Again man Thanks for all of your inspiring videos. Would love to meet some time. I'm from Kolkata
@@akashpaul4925 congratulations on the new motorcycle. It's a shame that some dealers mess up all the hard work that the manufacturers put in. Glad I could help in whatever way possible. Ride safe.
Hi there, did you ride your 390 in Himalayan rough roads with pillion along with luggage? If yes, did you ever feel it under power on rough hill climb?
This is what I was waiting for. A full fledged ride vlog. Crazy bro😍❤️ I don’t skip a single second of your vlog. Hoping to see this level of consistency be maintained throughout and see you at the top! All the best! Waiting for the next part :)
Thank you as always for the support and encouragement bro.
Hi Oggy F, can you tell more about the bags you have ? habe you also bought the KTM Pannier Racks for them to fit ?
Hey! I've not bought saddle stays or the pannier racks that Ktm manufactures. I used Rynox Nomad V2 saddlebags and strapped them to the motorcycle. They worked fine..but saddlestays would help keep set things up alot more easily.
I have 2 question, the bike is lighter than usual advs, so does it feel underweight at higher speeds, or how is the high speed stability?
And, what is the maximum comfortable speed?
No nonsense motovlogger. Always to the point and imparting wisdom. Top top lad 👍🏼
Thank you kind sir 😊✌🏻
Hey oggy,
I have seen the rynox saddle bag touching the exhaust of adv 390 in your insta stories
I wonder if the saddle bag has a heat resistant base
Does that saddle bag fit in perfectly bcz I own one and I plan to buy adv 390 soon
Thanks in advance. Roll safe ✌️
Hey Rev350, the saddlebags did touch the exhaust but didn't get burnt. While the base of the saddlebag has a plastic layer to keep its shape, it doesn't have a heat resistant base. The saddlebag fits well on the motorcycle but could fit better with saddlestays
Oggy F
Thanks oggy for you kind reply. It has helped me take a step closer to my upcoming bike “Tang390”
😅✌️
Hey it was a good video. Just one question have you ever taken Chorla Ghat route? It is lill longer route than Amboli ghat route but the scenery is equally good and roads better than Amboli route. Nippani to Amboli stretch is lill bad but that is not the case with Chorla. Only problem is you have to go through Belgaum city traffic which as bad as Mumbai's. Keep up the good work...
I have taken chorla once. Loved it... Just couldn't deal with the traffic. Was stuck there for a bit and took me longer to get to Goa.
@@OggyF Exactly traffic in belgaum is very bad. And sad thing is there is bypass....
Hi Sir
Actually what's the opinion of pillion about her sitting comfort?
Did she again like to have another ride on it?
If she have to rate the comfort as 0 to 10 how much ktm Adv 390 can score?
The best part Dial - 1800 - Chhapri 😂😂😂😂 and I love the way you'll care for the strays 😍.. even I love doing that
Haha glad you liked it. Gotta love 'em doggos 🐶
Hi Oogy;
Does KTM have a heating problem / hot air blow between legs in bumper to bumper traffic and how is this problem as compared to the interceptor??
How good a fit are the Rynox nomad saddle bags on KTM 390 ADV, and do they need a saddle stay? Also, do they make the seating position for the pillion uncomfortable?
They're a bit bigger than what would be an ideal fit on this motorcycle. Saddle stays aren't necessary but would make it easier to mount. The front of the bags did interfere with my pillion's heel position on the footpegs but we moved them back a little and they stopped troubling her.
@@OggyF Thanks for the prompt response. Would you recommend anything specific for this bike? I was in the search for one!

hey i wanna know what mileage you get with pillion and language and is it comfortable for both of you for long ride pls reply :)
A salute to what you are doing for those strays. Much love from one stray lover to another.
About the bike, any comments on the handlebar position? The pillion seat is surely big enough to provide comfort to the pillion, but what about the monoshock at the rear? Does it do the job well?
Thank you bro. I felt the handlebar position was fine. It's nice and wide too so you don't have to put a lot of effort to lean the motorcycle over. For ofroading I've heard a lot of people say that it needs handlebar risers...I'm no offroad expert so I'll leave that to them. The rear suspension on the default setting was comfortable for 2-up riding. When I was riding solo though, it did feel a bit stiff but I didn't make adjustments to the preload.

how do you compare the 390 adventure to your previous long rides on the versys and the himalayan and also the v-strom in terms of comfort, pillion comfort and cornering abilities? thanks
Didn't have a pillion on the other two rides but the verysys was the most comfortable, the vstrom was the most fun to ride on and the 390 is a combination of the 2.

Hi Oggy just wanted to know how is the pillion comfort for long rides specifically for hefty pillion.
And just give some comparison or idea about pillion seat like unicorn seat or apache seat or royal Enfield seat ,how much it is broad or wide like that
It felt as wide as the Himalayan pillion seat and my pillion said that it was the most comfortable from the motorcycles she's been on. Again adjusting the preload on the rear shock makes a huge difference for 2up riding so consider that when you take a test ride too
