This show is made for the rewatches - not saying it isn't great the first time through, but it hits a whole other level once you know the different reveals and go back to the earlier episodes. There are so many little moments with Annie/Reiner/Bertholt, in particular, that are completely re-contextualized (and some that are re-re-contextualized after further reveals) - and there is usually an emotional punch to it in that new context. Great reaction as always!
Dude you notice SO MANY THINGS on rewatch like either direct hints on screen (ie bertholdt annie and reiner always grouping together) or just the implication of things (like the higher council/government etc) as well as all the plotholes in the "history" of the walls and humanity.

“Father, stop!!” That woman most likely had an abusive father while growing up, which up to the moment she was eaten by a titan was her most traumatic memory, and the sheer terror of the moment just triggered her old childhood trauma. Nothing to do with the larger story but that’s the impression I got.

And thru association Bert being the collosal is a fair guess since he's always sticking to Reiner like gum. But, for those who didn't figure it out b4 this would still feel like they got shot in the gut with the reveal. Also, the casual reveal by Reiner makes this scene much much more impactful.
Reiner was smoking after getting out of Annie hand, Bertolt was about to bite his hand and transform just as the tower was falling because of Ymir, Eren's head was smoking after he bumped his head due to his faulty ODM gear, Annie was very apologetic at some point during the Wall Maria operation, lot's of foreshadowing shown in a few seconds. What a reaction!
There's SO MUCH foreshadowing in every episode it's amazing. Annie Reiner and Berthodt were the only ones to appear the day the wall fell in the first two episodes since they were there, Annie asked Bertholdt and Reiner for orders when Eren's Titan first appeared and Marco looked at the three of them confused by them, There's been lots of hints in the dialogue, Reiner and Annie were the only ones besides Mikasa and Armin to argue with the others that Eren's titan should be protected, etc etc etc. At least rewatch the scenes with Annie's Titan vs Reiner, Jean, and Armin--there was TONS of foreshadowing in that scene, throughout the dialogue. (Annie smiling at Reiner in Titan form, Reiner throwing back his hood against Armin's orders so Annie could recognize him, etc) However, I should mention that the steam on Reiner after being in Annie's hand wasn't his own steam, it was Annie's since he had just cut through some of her flesh and her blood was evaporating off his body. A lot of people are confused by this at first thinking it's more foreshadowing, but it's just Annie's blood, not Reiner's steam.
I think they made the episode this way so that we are as confused as eren and everyone with the sudden reveal. They made the reveal very casual in the midst of people talking. It's making us confused as well. We think we're mis-reading stuff and buffering. Imagine how confused eren and everyone would be in real life. So that way of directing the scene of the reveal really puts you in the shoes of the characters.
12:30 another cool detail that you notice when rewatching the show, is that before attacking Annie, Armin recommended to not show their faces as she wouldn't want to kill Eren by mistake. Immediately before attacking tho, Reiner took his cape off and show his face to Annie.
I don't know which kind of media you guys consumed before this but I fucking love when people come from for example shit like Marvel and then watch AoT and absolutely get blown the fuck away because they have never watched something so out there and well written. And the best thing is, this is literally just the beginning.

You guys were shook so badly in this episode. My personal favorite episode of all episodes, it's just a masterpiece and never gets old when people seeing it don't have a clue what is about to happen. You guys just for fun check out the scene in episode 5 where the tower is falling and look at Bertholdt in that moment where is his hand positioned when they are all falling :D, just already a small hint this show constantly have and when you don't know the full story you don't see them. Rewatching AOT is so much fun after you have seen it all as then you easily pick up on so many things you didn't notice first time.

Additional context here: The whole events of season 2 to this episode happened in just around 24 hours. While Eren and the rest were trying to flush out Annie, Reiner, Sasha, Connie, Bertholdt, Historia, and Ymir, were out doing their thing leading to the events on Castle Utgarde. They carefully planned to separate Annie, whom they already suspected as the Female Titan, from Bert and Reiner. So many blink-and-you'll-miss-it details throughout season one and two which invites a rewatch. But it's best to watch the series in its entirety. The rewatch would totally change everything. Especially on those scenes involving Reiner and Bertholdt, no matter how quick they are shown on screen. Example of which is the significance of the word "Warrior" which Annie mentioned only once in Season 1 during their hand-to-hand combat training which Reiner mentions again here in this episode.
This episode NEVER fails to deliver shock to anyone that sees it because it literally comes from out nowhere and it's just casual and you're like wait WHAT 🤣🤣🤣 I remember when I read it in the manga I read through it and went on for a couple pages and then it sank in and went WAIT WHAT 😂😂😂😊

Watching this brings back a memory. I get teary eyed everytime. There’s other moments like this throughout the series. Just knowing now where the show is at… the story is fucking tragic but beautifully written and presented. It’s amazing. I’m so fucking grateful I didn’t get spoiled to this reveal. And I had no friends that watched this at that time so I was by myself talking about theory’s all to myself 🤣 still amazing. You guys gotta remember, the reason Reiner had mixed emotions is bc he said he didn't know there were people like them out there. He got attached as a big brother figure to Eren and the others so he wanted to help the cause but was also the enemy with a duty.
Your question that why didn't bertoldt and reiner transform in the previous episode, yes they tried to. I never noticed it myself until i saw it somewhere bertoldt was literally about to bite his hand in that episode 😂
That as well was like a so clear but it v want the main focal point if that scene that it will easily be missed

The whole events of season 2 to this episode happened in just around 24 hours. While Eren and the rest were trying to flush out Annie, Reiner, Sasha, Connie, Bertholdt, Historia, and Ymir, were out doing their thing leading to the events on Castle Utgarde. They carefully planned to separate Annie, whom they already suspected as the Female Titan, from Bert and Reiner.
So many blink-and-you'll-miss-it details throughout season one and two which invites a rewatch. But it's best to watch the series in its entirety. The rewatch would totally change everything. Especially on those scenes involving Reiner and Bertholdt, no matter how quick they are shown on screen. Example of which is the significance of the word "Warrior" which Annie mentioned only once in Season 1 during their hand-to-hand combat training which Reiner mentions again here in this episode.
This episode NEVER fails to deliver shock to anyone that sees it because it literally comes from out nowhere and it's just casual and you're like wait WHAT 🤣🤣🤣
I remember when I read it in the manga I read through it and went on for a couple pages and then it sank in and went WAIT WHAT 😂😂😂😊

I mean, most of the last ones I've seen seemed so... studied? and exaggerated, that watching you guys in utter shock half of the episode and losing it at the end when confirming not only that they're titans but the ones we saw at the beginning of the show, was awesome
