  • The Dallas Mavericks have sent about as big of a shockwave through the NBA world as anyone could have anticipated to start the Western Conference Finals vs the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2024 NBA Playoffs. After taking a 2-0 series lead winning game 1 & game 2 in Minnesota, the Dallas Mavs have found so many different ways to attack Anthony Edwards, KAT, Rudy Gobert & company that most people did not seem to anticipate.
    Let’s start with the Dallas Mavs offense led by Luka Doncic & Kyrie Irving. The Luka Doncic game winner & buzzer beater in game 2 was just the icing on the cake for the powerhouse this side of the ball has been for DAL. Alongside both Kyrie & Luka, the bigs in Daniel Gafford & Dereck Lively have been incredible in serving the offense. Couple what they’ve done with pieces like PJ Washington, Josh Green, Derrick Jones Jr, Tim Hardaway Jr, even Jaden Hardy & Dante Exum, Jason Kidd has found a formula that’s paid dividends for this offense throughout the 2024 NBA Playoffs.
    Then, there’s also the amazing Dallas Mavericks defense. Because after acquiring both PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford at the trade deadline, this side of the ball has only seemed to improve more and more over time. And if the Mavs can keep this momentum as the series shifts to Dallas, this team might be making an appearance in the 2024 NBA Finals to compete for an NBA championship.
    This video includes 2024 Dallas Mavs Mavericks NBA Playoffs highlights, also including topics like Dallas mavericks 2024, mavs vs timberwolves game 2, mavs playoffs highlights, mavericks vs timberwolves highlights, mavs wolves game 2 reaction, dallas mavs postgame, mavs interview, luka doncic interview, mavs full game, mavs live, mavs timberwovles full game, mavs timberwolves game 3 preview, mavs timberwolves reaction, luka doncic game winner, luka buzzer beater, luka stepback, kyrie irving mavs highlights, luka playoffs highlights, pj washington mavs highlights, dereck lively II highlights mavs, mavs ending, mavs vs wolves game 2, mavs comeback, mavs post game interview, jason kidd interview, mavs news today, mavericks rumors, mavs news update, mavs injury news, luka injury, mavericks espn, mavs espn, mavs first take, mavericks first take, jaden hardy highlights, derrick jones jr, mavs offense, mavs defense, etc. which I do not own ANY of the rights to whatsoever, as these are intended to be used under the guidelines of fair use through RUclips.

    Versatility.
    The Mavs don't have just one way to play, they have multiple. And that includes what to take away from the opponents offense.
    Luka and Kyrie complete a very formidable and flexible defensive rotation, and both have the whole toolbox offensively; so no matter what rotation they're in, they never lack anything.

    Really nice analysis. The new Mavs are not the old Mavs. Most analysts still haven’t really figured that out. Gritty, help-oriented hustle defense using the two bigs; opportunistic offense that pushes the ball when the opportunity is there, but can operate in the half court just as well; and an overall Zen-like patience and togetherness in the culture.

      ABOUT TIME !!!! ..... seen him criticized by all the talking heads who all know how to play checkers while Jason has been playing 3-dimensional chess!!! For instance.... what the hell are they doing team-wise to wear Ant-man out two games in a row now??? ... then there's the high pick-and-rolls .... and the double-high pick-and-rolls... Masterful! The way the offense is set up, every play has multiple outcomes.... all based on the read.... which is where Luka is playing at a different level from others.... but bottom line, when you look at this team, player by player, they ALL look like Jason Kidd!! They all have that attitude, that mental toughness, that intelligence, and that team spirit, and that sense of total calm.... like the Musketeers out there, "All for one, And one for all!!" .... and it all goes back to the people he and Nico selected..... And that produced the Chemistry of this team! Good example, Grant Williams.... awesome player in all aspects but.... his head was somewhere else and got let go! ..... He has also navigated the waters of coaching two super-stars and it looks like a love fest out there! So, it's not that he's just a great coach, he's a great person and perfect mentor for this championship team!

    As someone who has watched the mavs closely all season, none of it really surprises me. Wolves are a good match up for them as their offence isn't great, I was more worried about OKC and their swipey defence and 5 out spacing. Celtics will present similar problems if they make it with all their shooting.

      @J-Wheeler-G 3 месяца назад +3

      I agree with everything you said pretty much. I would add that I knew that Ant is not an elite playmaker yet and with this Dallas defense that was going to be exposed. The one thing about Boston is that while they have a defender in Holliday that can do similar work that Dort did on Luka he is smaller so it won't be as effective. I don't see anyone else that plays that relentless and physical defense that you would need to guard Luka.

      I expect the mavs to play the Celtics which throw up the most 3s in the league, the same way. They'll dominate the paint since horford is good but not enough and too old, and chinal doll porzingis is softer than even gobert and KAT

    • @dundalis
      @dundalis 3 месяца назад +2

      Big difference is the two best ball handlers and playmakers in the series plays for Dallas. TWolves don't have the playmaking and ball handling to attack the paint vs Lively and Gafford and make great decisions. Unlike Kyrie and Luka, Ant is a straight line demon, he's not going to alter speeds, have patience and make elite reads. Thats not gonna change the whole series, TWolves have a huge job to figure out how to change things with such a disadvantage. Mavs can make big mistakes and miss many shots like the first half and still win cause their offense is schematically unstoppable. If Mavs play a full game at a high level with normal contributions from the stars and role players its gonna be a blowout.

    • @dundalis
      @dundalis 3 месяца назад +1

      @@Benedict_Savage Celtics will be a bit more difficult to guard than the Wolves are though, as their offense is def much more well rounded and consistent. Also Celtics have less pure length, but are more mobile defensively than TWolves, bit more similar to OKC.

    • @Benedict_Savage
      @Benedict_Savage 3 месяца назад +1

      @@dundalis you are correct, however the wolves were the no. 1 defense during regular and post season, not the Celtics, which means teams have figured them out to some extent. I don't think the mavs would have issues figuring out the Celtics defense as well, and it's all about having a good game plan. In general the Celtics have been less than impressive these playoffs and they have a tall order with this mavs' team

    • @dundalis
      @dundalis 3 месяца назад +2

      @@Benedict_Savage The thing I’d say about that is just matchups. Wolves also have a higher rated defense than OKC, but imo Mavs had more issues with OKC defense bothering them than they have had with Wolves defense so far just because of the matchups. I still think if Luka can maintain 75-80% of his capabilities the rest of the way and his health not deteriorate they win it all, but I can see Celtics being the hardest matchup for Mavs over anyone else. They will easily be the best offense the Mavs will face in post season.

    Most surprising is their mental maturity and how they’ve gelled since the trade. JKidd and Kryie’s attitude in the big game / big series is having a stabilizing influence here I think
    Mavs in 5 over Minnesota. It’s just a terrible matchup for the Wolves. They have no answer. I could still see Minnesota winning it, but I don’t think they will. Mavs are too poised, too versatile… and now they have the defense too. Nobody in the league wants to play them right now.
    Hard to call the champ this year, but I’ll say Mavs over Celtics in an epic Game 7 with Kyrie hitting the winning shot.

    The Timberwolves have a match up problem with the Mavericks. Connelly cannot defend against any of the Maverick's starters, he is just too small, and he is not skilled enough to stay on Kyrie. But the Timberwolves need him to be their point guard. Edwards is gassed just trying to defend Kyrie, I do not think he has adjusted his body to a 100 plus game schedule yet, there is no way he could play the point guard. McDaniels is not strong enough to guard Luka and keep him from getting to whatever place he wants to shoot from. Cobert cannot defend on the permitter at all, and he is a complete offensive bust. Towns also has a problem with making quick defensive decisions between helping in the lane and hustling out to the tree-point line. Reed seems to be a more agile big man and should start over Cobert. Edwards should be tried to defend against Luka, but he will even more gassed by the fourth quarter. The Timberwolves just do not have enough defenders.

      ANT (what a terrible handle) has been horrible on both ends, Gobert and Towns have huge weaknesses. Reid is their best all around player; must play more minutes. No minn. Player can guard Gafford or Lively.. There best defensive rating is based on playing low scoring games.

      Not enough defenders is not the problem. The mavs making them pick their poison every time. Nothing is forced but when u got Luka and kyrie coming off PNR at the elbow with the shooters they have and the bigs that are great lob threats and not slouches on Defense. The spacing Dallas gets is the difference maker. Antman is not able to get that great of space

    There are a lot of surprises for me.
    1) Kyrie has been more selective with when he wants to attack he isnt relentless on offense all the time. And he KNOWS it too, that the 4th quarter is his time. Game 2 he literally said "4th quarter" to luka after a 3. He know this is when his game is scariest.
    2) Surprisingly, the most important defensive players have been luka and kyrie. They are not nearly the best defenders on the team, but these two are the biggest communicators, the most consistent helpers, close out defenders, and they rarely miss an assignment. Don't believe me? Look at what how they operate in both the gaps on defense. I never would have thought I'd see the day I'd say that about one of them let alone both
    3) Derrick lively. He's been the best rookie in the playoffs. Who would have thought that on draft night.
    4) Many things modern day basketball is telling you is bad or outdated, have been some of the maverick's biggest weapons. The mid range, traditional centers, isolation basketball, the mavs have taken them and reminded people these are still viable weapons.

    I was scared at first with the time theyve been giving Hardy in such an important series... he has made some major rookie mistakes...but I know the Mavs want him to gain confidence if they invest in him. Hardy having the chance to play with Kyrie and Luka, I can't see him not eventually figuring it out and becoming that guy!
    His handles and athleticism are great. His being able to finish at the rim and make last minute decisions is where he's been messing up... but I've seen him already adjusting, and throwing up a couple of nice lobs and dishing out instead of fully committig to the rim expecting fouls.

    Guess what, NBA? Dallas, Texas has a basketball team that you're going to have work very, very hard to eliminate. I'm a lifetime Mavs fan so I love it, but it surprised me. Those trades were magic, a tonic for this team, just what they needed and more. You really can't expect such a good turn of events or even ask for one.
    Luka's abilities, too, finally hit me with force: Hey, this kid has skills, amazing skills. He can do anything. (And he's doing it now on one leg.)
    I don't think they've reached their peak. They, like a storm, are still forming; I don't know what they might become. But, as always, Fate will start in with her tricks sooner or later: Good luck never lasts for long. Nonetheless, it's a joy to watch your team finally hit some pay dirt, at least so far. (If the Timberwolves start playing defense like they did against Denver, they could win the series, but they seem gassed and in disarray, which, of course, they could theoretically fix.) Talk later.

Gafford + Lively take turns and always have a lot of energy 20+ points is crucial . Al horford ?? KP has to come back but it’s going to be bbq chicken holiday will try his best on Luka but Luka always does really good against the best defenders regardless big or small ?? Ah, i thought this would be a video covering the illegal screens they set for Luka... similar to GSW and their illegal screens. It's by the design from the Mavs. They are basically telling them you go ahead and be out of character and shoot all of those three pointers. I don't think you can beat us that way. They did the same thing to OKC and even though they had been the best 3p percentage team the gave them the three in different rhythm that what OKC got in the regular season.
