@@xZyrux Absolutely agree with you. I feel like it just did not have enough content, and alot of garrison ideas were thrown out. I feel like they needed to be designed better in a way where we weren't isolated all the time. Trade chat should have been removed, and there should definitely been a hard cap on some things. Like farming herbs in garrison without ever leaving your garrison. Or making gold from the missions. I knew people that spent the entire expansion in their garrisons lol. Like maybe a 1 week reset on your herbs before you were able to farm them again from your garrison. Something from preventing you from doin nothing but garrison facebook farming. And not such a huge gold incentive from the missions either.
Legion had it right with class order halls though. That was so much better than garrisons. Basically us warriors in our warrior hall, and all you other players can go away until we decide to raid or pvp lol.

You also have to think about how Blizzard spends their time making content. Since expansions come out every 2 years or so, some of that time has to go into the next expansion, they are not fully dedicating each of those full 2 years to a single expansion and its content. I honestly feel like shadowlands was ok. It just lacked content. But there was no promised content really that was lacked. Shadowlands definitely needed more content though in my op.
Shadowlands also had alot of really bad design decisions. Forcing everyone to move one zone to the next in a linear fashion. I mean, you had to practically have loremaster in order to do maldraxus from bastion. Then you needed maldraxxus loremaster in order to go to ardenweald. And so on.
Man you needed all that to unlock dungeons and raids to.
They never seemed to listen to any of the criticism this expansion either. Making all the covenants a 1 time choice was another thing, and making it so you couldn't swap them, was also bad.
Like it just had so many bad decisions going on down the line. But the content it had was good. I had fun anyway.
The frustrating thing, is, even now, it is still the same way. You still cannot quest freely.
I always find it important to be objective. I guess I was one of those folks who did not straight up hate on shadowlands. I found things that were cool. And just did that stuff.
I had a softspot for the maw. It is the most unique zone in the whole game. I felt all the zones were cool, ardenweald will always be my favorite though.
Another bad decision here, but they took away everyone's mounts in the maw. I think if everyone had a mount down there, it would have been received better. I am also one of those folks who doesn't mind not being able to fly either. But it made no sense not to be able to us a regular 100 percent speed mount down there. What were they thinking.
I liked this expansion for what it was though. Maldraxxus was like a huge throwback to wrath. With all this undead activity going on.
Shadowlands had a boatload of untapped potential in my op. Sad to see where it actually went down though. Also I am sure there are facts that I missed to. As I am a casual 5 man and casual pvp/quester kind of a guy. But it could have been alot better.

It was planned for you to be able to queue for a dungeon/raid on a character, then go log on to your alt and do your business there and when the instance was ready, you'd hit join from your alt and it would automatically relog you to the character that originally queued up and load the instance. Very handy feature that was scrapped.

Soon the game becomes a gambling corner, not a place for fun.
As long as you pay only for decorations or to be able to play the game (like a monthly fee or a single payment), that is ok, but as soon as you start paying for quality of life in game or to get a better item, that game has become a casino and most normal players will start leaving it while only fanatics and addicts will remain playing it.

The way they over-pruned classes to try do to all the office politics after MoP would have always made that difficult. MoP was peak class design for a lot of players and WoD felt very stripped down to actually play the game for many specs. Despite that, I'd be curious if there was a pie chart for "WoD Development Time" how much of it was eaten up by everything Garrison/Shipyard related and if that time was just redirected into content if we'd have gotten a much better expansion.

    • @cattysplat
      @cattysplat 3 года назад

@@andrewshandle MoP was really run to play a main character but a nightmare to run alts and learn a million skills they had with their rotations. The ability bloat was real and I think WoD did a decent job of cutting down on the sheer number of skills, the core gameplay being entirely in the classes though with big damage was still there, Legion neutered that hard into borrowed power which has made classes feel weak without gear/power since. They did break quite a few things though, like making monks significantly more static and boring.

@@cattysplat Got to say, that if you interviewed 100 players and asked "what expansion had better class design, MoP or WoD?" I think a good 85% would say "MoP". There was definitely some bloat, but WoD pruned way too much and other than a few individual specs, most specs played much worse in WoD than they did in MoP. For many players MoP is the peak of class design.
The issue with Alts was just overall design of the game with everything being so Rep based, but that's a design decision that they could have easily rectified if they wanted too.

Most of the specs I tried also felt worse than they did in the previous example... even specs that didn't change a lot like Shadow Priests. I would have preferred if instead they focused on horizontal progression at that point (even if the amount of keybindings needed to be cleaned up a bit)... imagine something like Gladiator Stance Warrior being its own thing with its own talent tree; that would give it the ability to be a bit more unique and more abilities altered, essentially allowing for sub specs in the game (let alone being far easier to balance with it being uncoupled from Prot). Apply this kind of idea to every spec, and there would be far more customization than ever... it could also largely replace class reworks, meaning a playstyle isn't lost, only new things added to choose from.

Also, transmoggable arrows, so you could get that iceblade arrow effect to it. Iceblade arrowheads in wrath gave your arrows a frosty glow and did some frost damage.

The isle South of Nagrand was not removed: that's Highmaul, it was just moved to the West. That helps explain why Highmaul in live is a massive isle fully modeled but only 30% of it is used. The other continent mentioned was supposed to be the land of the ogres and Highmaul would act a step before we reached there. In a panel was mentioned that this new continent would have its own different fauna and flora (I well remember this because sounded a bit random to mention) that was lost due to being destroyed in the main universe whe Draenor became Outland. As said in the video, when Gorgrond was being developed it was just a desert with railtracks all around. Why I mention this? Because there was no trace of botani or genesaur there until late in development. My speculation is that botani and genesaur were supposed to be in this new continent (remember they mentioned "flora") and since it was cut they moved them to Gorgrond, that's why is inconsistent that there's no trace of them in Outland but would make sense in the initial approach.
