We had wine coolers in the US long before Smirnoff Ice came around. I'm old enough to remember seeing commercials for Bartles & Jaymes on the TV, and I don't know if they were the first wine coolers, but I think they were the first ones I remember hearing about.
Then came Zima,..
I remember sneaking bartles & Jaymes strawberry daiquiris when I was like 10 years old😂
Wine coolers are weaker though. Now there's all kinds of malt liquor based drinks like 8-10% hard lemonade, four loko, Smirnoff smash etc.
I remember being in the bowling alley with my parents, early 1980s, around 5-6 years old and seeing the wine coolers in the display behind the bar.
I thought they were juice so I asked my mom for one.
She said no, of course, and that I wouldn't like it.
I pestered her until she bought one.
One sip.
I didn't like it. 😂

ACTUALLLYYYYY, Zima started the "Alcopop" trend in 1993. They were the first to introduce the style. Although, "Wine Coolers" were first introduced in 1981.

When the video gets to the part with Colin asking Damon and Lolsy what they thought overall, the long pause, the expressions on their faces, I was thinking how much I enjoy watching Damon, his dry sense of humor, Lolsy's laughter, and I realized how much I like watching all the Tryers, how much your content lifts my spirts, no matter what else is going on in my life. My deepest thanks to all of you.
Clisare is fun to watch... Even when she doesn't like something, she's still a character... But Lolsy.... She's just soo adorable...
This my favorite RUclips channel and it ain't even close but this episode was just hysterical. I laughed my ass all the way off. Clisare was in peak form. So good.
Yes! I enjoy videos where they're having crazy reactions to horrid crap, but the best ones are when the crew is just having a blast. Clisare is an absolute delight every time she's on, and she and Graeme always seem to have a good time.
Any video in which both Clisare and Lolsy burp is, for me, an instant classic.
New idea for a video: all the Try guys submit their favorite drink/cocktail to the producers, and they have to guess who each drink belongs to.

Love the pairing of Graeme and Clisare. Wonderful to see Lolsy again. Is this an older shoot, or is she remaining in Ireland now? Paddy and Jaimie are always good fun together. Those kinds of drinks were not a thing for me as a teen (too old for that innovation LOL). That Blue WKD matched the TRY background beautifully.

Smirnoff Ice was late to the party here in the U.S. There were wine coolers (most notably, Bartles & James), Bicardi Breezers, and Purple Passion (made with Everclear) well before Smirnoff Ice.
It wasn’t the first in Ireland either. West Coast Cooler, Bacardi Breezer, Smirnoff Mule etc. were already on the market. They’re too young to know.
I agree! I grew up in the south during the late eighties, and early nineties, and my friends and I drank this stuff all the time. We just referred to it as "spiked Kool-aid".😉
I haven’t had a Smirnoff ice in over 10 years. Had one two weeks ago. It was really really really really really good.
The first time I got drunk was on Bartles & James. I think I was 15. 😂
no smirnoff ice isnt a wine coolerits a malt beverage... wine coolers have 3% alcohol where smirnoff had 5%+ alcohol...
and the original was zima by coors

Being from Canada, in 1986 I was quite fond of Seagram's Wildberry Vodka Coolers...those were the days.

The version they...sang?...was Everytime We Touch by Cascada. Apparently there's another version that is slowed down, but the tempo they mumbled the lyrics was Cascada's version

I’ve never heard the term Alcopop as a catch all for these kind of bottled drinks. Love the term and will try to use it. Def have some deep nostalgia and want to try some of these.

When I first discovered the Try channel, only discovering Facts after the fact, I often confused Clare and Lolsy, as being one in the same. They would make for a fine pairing, in my book.

I'm not one of those scared people who has to go out and get all shot up with blood clots. Besides, I would prefer having covid again than dealing with anything else really.

You need to look into the Mike's hard lemonade line. They have some to mimic freezies (ice pops) and candies such as the peach fuzz, sour watermelon

If there is one thing that watching folks drink on this channel for the last few years has taught me, it's that out of the entire lot of you, Clisare is the one that's is the most joyful when she likes what is being served and is also, by far, the most sour when she is forced to drink beverages that are not in her wheelhouse. Ha!
I would love an episode in which you wind her up, then let her down only to wind her up and then let her down and then wind her up one more time. Hahahaha. Go to her extremes and let the likes go through the roof.

One of my pre teen memories was we were having a party and my uncle brought a case of strawberry champagne and me and my sister took a bottle and went outside around the side of the house and we drank the whole freaking bottle and we both got drunk as hell and I puked my guts up all night long and missed school the next day.

Smirnoff ice is not the original. Bartels & James, and Zima. 1981. Dangerous. Of course, people over 60 would say Boone's Farm in the 60's and 70's. We always called it beginners booze.

Okay. What’s the drinking age in Ireland? I’ve heard them talking about drinking in fields as a teenagers & now Lolsy is saying the drinks are reminding her of her late teens.
Just because their is a drinking age doesn’t mean anyone follows it lol teens have always and will always find a way to get alcohol.
Technically 18 but alcohol is a big part of Irish culture so I imagine under-age drinking is common (as it is in the UK).
It’s 18 but realistically we all started drinking at 16.
I learned more about Clisare in this ONE episode, then all the Try episodes she's ever been in!!!
