    IMPORTANT NOTE: Under a few specific circumstances, I have discorved that version 2 will NOT work once installed in the car.
    You can bench test the light, and it will work fine. But once it’s installed, it won’t work.
    If you know electrical well, send me a message or read the response in comments to the situation of when version 2 doesn’t work.
    Maybe someone knows what is causing this? Let me know please!
    There is NO harm in trying version 2, if that is your preferred wiring setup. Worst case, you wire the light for version 2, install it and find out it doesn’t light up. Simply take the light apart again and re-wire for version 3.
    Version 3 so far has 100% success rate, when the wiring is done correctly.
    The Valenti 3rd/4th brake and reverse light for the Scion FRS and Subaru BRZ comes pre-wired in a weird way-the "V" and the brake light always come on together, when almost everyone wants to separate the "V" from the brake light (triangle).
    This video shows the different options available (3).
    1st-Factory/out of the box setup
    2nd-The "V" and Brake light/triangle are separated, but the triangle brake part flashes/strobes 3 times when you apply the brakes.
    3rd-The "V" and Brake light/triangle are separated, but the triangle brake part will only illuminate when the brakes are pressed-no strobe or flashing!
    WARNING: This modification VOIDS your warranty.
    Skills with basic electrical and soldering are highly suggested.
    The Valenti 3rd/4th brake light can be ordered from Modbargains.com www.modbargains.com/valenti-le...
    AND, if you order through Modbargains, you can pay to have this modification done before it is shipped out to you, and KEEP your warranty. Modbargains keeps the Valenti Rear Bumper light IN STOCK so pickup or shipping is fast!

    v2 worked like a charm. 2018 Brz, I did have a newer version of the lights as the green wire on mine was actually blue but followed the video and it worked. Initially the triangle didnt come on, but after adjusting the red wire in the t tap connector, everything was good.

    People like you is why the internet is a cool place. If I get a valenti 4th light I'll certainly try this, with the version 2 problem I've been reading about I'll just go for ver 3. One question Charles, do our cars have a factory rear fog light here in the US? I have a 17 brz

    • @chazpages
      @chazpages  6 лет назад +1

      Hey, thanks Mario Paul! If you don't mind a little extra work, you can try version 2 first-it'll either work or it won't! As for the rear fog, the US spec vehicles don't receive that wiring, so the best/easiest bet is wiring it up to just come on with parking lights (which is how it will light up if you follow this guide).

    2017 86 here, v2 worked great (with the car "on" in accessory AND while it is running). I also used a plug and play harness (uses two factory connectors and has the two taillight and brake wires spliced in) so I did not use any T-Taps or Positaps.

    In order for the brake(triangle) light to flash you need to have the “fog” connected to your brake light and a delayed 12v signal going to the “Stop” on the back of the light.

    Which of the wires is the reverse light? I did version 2 and it didnt work at all at first but after like three days it worked fine. Problem is my reverse light will not come on unless I move around the shifter in reverse to a “sweet spot”. Dont know if its from the wiring I did, with maybe a weak/bad solder, or the issue is from inside the car. I unplugged the harness and plugged it back, everthing works but the reverse light just flickers randomly until I move the shifter in a sweet spot.

    Great video just the last step I don’t quite get, I’ve read the comments but they are unclear to me. So I’ve got valenti tail lights with 4 wires, blue black red and yellow.
    Now I don’t know which wires I have to connect from the 4th brake light to the tail lights.
    As of right now I have the 3 wire on the 4th brake light as well as that spare wire

    • @chazpages
      @chazpages  6 лет назад

      You'll have 3 wires hooked up to a tail light (doesn't matter which one) and one wire go to the reverse harness. You'll need to determine which wire powers what. You should only need to tap into 2 of the wires on the taillight. Also, it sounds like you have the valenti tail lights as well? You'll need to figure out which wire is the brake light, and which wire is the running lights. You'll then tap in the reverse light harness wires to these spots.

      @@chazpages Hello, I have a version 2 problem with a twist. I wired everything up in the garage, it all works as advertised.
      The triangle light blinks then goes solid with the brake pedal as it should. However, when I start the engine and get on the brake pedal, the triangle light doesn't blink and just glows very dim. Works great without the engine running, doesn't work with the engine running. Anyone ever hear of that issue?

    I found in internet the solution to the Version 2 problem. The issue is that the break line is divided between the 2 taillights and the 3rd break light and doesn't give enough power to the 4th break light (Valenti). Because of that the Valenti break light doesn't flash like Version 2 should. I tested the soldering by connecting the Valenti's to straight to battery and they worked like intended but when connected to break line it wouldn't flash and instead give out a dim light. To fix this I set up a relay and ran the power directly from the battery (I connected to the factory amp wire since it has a 12V always on in one of the wires). And it worked. My only issue is that the relay i have makes a clicking noise everytime i hit the breakes. So now I will need to look into getting a relay that is quite

    • @chazpages
      @chazpages  6 лет назад

      For those that don't follow this on ft86club, a solid state relay should allow this to function, without the "click." You will still have the clicking inside the cabin however (just like all cars). amzn.to/2IUxAXx

    • @chazpages
      @chazpages  6 лет назад +1

      So you've done the mod to version 3? Next is just hooking up the wires by tapping into the factory wires. You should only need to wire two of them-one is a plug (where the factory light plugs in) and the two you need to wire can be done at either one of the tail lights.

    • @chazpages
      @chazpages  7 лет назад +1

      Sorry for delay-holidays! Anyway, the red wire needs to go to the brake light (driver or passenger-it doesn't matter). There are 4 wires in the plugs for the tail light, you need to tap the one that has (+) when the brakes are applied. I don't recall the color. If you have valenti lights however, its the "red" wire from out of the valenti brake light.

      Out of the box, the light will flash. Shown at 13 seconds. Basically, the triangle and the "v" both light up, but when you hit the brakes, the middle triangle flashes. This mod makes it so the middle triangle only lights up when braking. Ver 2 or ver 3 tell it to flash or just turn on.

      Hey glad to hear you got it installed! As for the rivets, if it's the ones I'm thinking of that you pop the middle part out and pull, install is "easy." Pop the tabs back out, and it should make the inside part easier to push into the hole. Once it's in (lol) push the middle of the tab in, and it will lock in place. Sometimes you have to sort of work it in there. You will not be able to install them if the center of the tab rivet is popped in.

    I wired mine up like you shown for version 2. everything works properly other than the brake light. when the red wire is connected to the brake switch wire it comes on extremely dim. if i connect the red wire to the parking light wire it does the flash and stays solid like it should. i even connected it to the turn signal wire just for shit and giggles and it works. but once again on the brake wire. its not working. i was fiddling with it for a while and it eventually started to work. turns out it only worked when i had low battery power. so with that in mind i tried a resistor in line and still nothing. so now i am completely stumped. if you have any knowledge on how to help with this issue id greatly appreciate it.

      ugh...I've run into this issue 3 times now (yours is the 3rd) and I DON'T KNOW WHY. I spent several hours chasing my tail on this. Whats weird is if you bench test (like use a power supply) it works fine. Put it in the car, and run it off the car wiring and it doesn't. I just don't friggin know. I think its vehicle specific even (the day I wasted 5 hours trying to diagnose, it would NOT work in my car, but it would work fine installed on another...). As you figured out, it has something to do with resistance, but again, no idea why. It could have something to do internally of the light (different brand resistor/other tiny electrical thing on the board)...but ultimately, I don't know and the electrical people I spoke to about it didn't know either.
      The issue is light specific, which is why I think there is/was a slight change in parts (not necessarily older or newer, just they swapped out one piece for another during assembly)
      Version 3 will work for you, however.
      I'll have to add an edit to the video-but I know Modbargains doesn't even offer version 2 anymore since we would have no idea if a light would do this or not. I would bench test every single one that was shipped out, but after this issue was discovered, we made only version 3 an option.
      Makes no sense to me.
      1. Mod light (version 2)
      2. Bench test light-it works!
      3. Install light-it doesn't work? wtf
      Sorry Andrew, I know this is frustrating. I was losing it the day that I discovered this problem.
      I'm no electrical expert, but I was rather upset that something simple could not be figured out.

      okay cool if version 3 will work then i will just set it up that way. i was just mind boggled and couldn't figure out why the hell it wouldn't work. I'm honestly just glad to hear I'm not the only person that has had this issue. I really appreciate the quick response as well.
      EDIT: if yall ever find a solution to this Id REALLY like to know how to take care of it. or if i figure it out i will let yall know

    • @chazpages
      @chazpages  7 лет назад +1

      Correct, version 3 has been 100% work rate when wired properly. I am boggled by the version 2 gremlin as well. It just doesn't make sense lol. Depending on where you bought it from, you could try swapping it out (I wouldn't mention why...since opening voids warranty). It's light specific, I did dozens of these for ModBargains, and I only ran into this issue twice.

    with the version 3 wiring will the brake light work when the brakes are pressed without the lights being turned on? Or do the lights have to be on for the brake light to work?

    • @chazpages

      Version 2 OR 3 will allow the center brake light triangle to light up when the brakes are pressed WITHOUT needing the running lights to be on!

    Just bought mine and Version 2 won't work. It works as Version 3 and the break light is super dim. I am extremely frustrated with this

    • @chazpages
      @chazpages  7 лет назад

      Hmm, we haven't see that before. What happens when it was wired as version 2? Normally, the dim brake light is the symptom of version 2, NOT 3.

    • @nijat12
      @nijat12 7 лет назад +2

      OK. I found the solution to the Version 2 problem.

      @chazpages  7 лет назад +1

      Hmm, that might just be it. It would certainly explain why bench testing works just fine, but in car it doesn't work. Very odd that it needs THAT much power, though. It still doesn't make sense to me that it doesn't get enough power, when if hooked up out of the box/like normal it has enough power to light up and blink. I wonder if something like amzn.to/2qrJCcT would work/be quiet though.

    • @nijat12
      @nijat12 7 лет назад +1

      I used a normal relay from a nearby autozone. However, I am really not happy with the clicking sound that it makes every time I press and release the brakes. The one you showed is only 0.5A. I am not sure if that will be enough. Currently looking at getting some solid state relays but having hard time finding a right one for 12VDC currents with about 5-10A

    I was wondering if you had come across how to achieve the following?
    Triangle: fog light only
    V light: comes on with breaking only
    Reverse: comes on with reverse only
    I love the light but can't find any tutorials as to how to achieve the above! Any help super appreciated! Thanks

    • @chazpages
      @chazpages  7 лет назад +1

      First, I'd do version 3-no flashing.
      V light-hook the "blue wire" FROM the valentines reverse light to the red wire (should be red) of one of the tail lights (left or right doesn't matter).
      Reverse-this SHOULD be the regular plug and play connector/harness. The wire is teal/green. Out of the box it should only come on when reverse lights are on.
      Triangle...this is what @andrew bailey was dealing with yesterday. This is the "red" wire from the valentines reverse light. Hook this wire to whatever wire has positive (+) when the rear fog is on. You guys have a wire running to the back of the car for this, right? IIRC you guys have a factory rear fog light, which means you have wiring there.

    • @proto_nightmare

    Hey, just want to ask because I have a gt86 and it doesn't have the fog light option only Daytime running lights. Is it the same if I do the wirings for the version 3? Like, will I get the triangle bit in the middle as a normal solid brake when i press on the brake and the V bar on when i have the headlights on parker/low beam?

    • @chazpages
      @chazpages  7 лет назад

      Are your lights (headlights and tail lights) always on when the car is running?

    • @carlosdmexican
      @carlosdmexican 7 лет назад

      No, but the DRL is always on when the handbrake is down

    • @carlosdmexican
      @carlosdmexican 7 лет назад

      So, if i want to have the V bar on when i turn my parkers/low beam on and have the triangle be a solid red when I flash, should I just follow the instructions for the 3rd option?

    • @chazpages
      @chazpages  7 лет назад

      3rd option is what you want for no flash. As long as the rear running lights (parkers, I believe for you guys) are separate from the headlights/drl everything will work fine.

    did you figure out why version 2 doesn't work? I'm about to order a 4th brake and want to do version 2. also with version 2 does it still flash when your headlights are off and you brake? thanks.

    • @chazpages
      @chazpages  7 лет назад

      Nope, haven't figured it out-I think it's vehicle dependent. Try it, but don't screw everything back together. From what I've seen, MOST of the time version 2 works just fine. With Version 2, it will still light up/flash even if your headlights are off. It will act like a regular brake light-only "on" when you brake.

    • @letmeseeu
      @letmeseeu 7 лет назад +1

      Charles Pages thanks! One last thing. What wires do I splice into with the valenti tails? Blue to blue and red to red still?

    • @letmeseeu
      @letmeseeu 7 лет назад

      will it be red to red and blue to blue regardless of the version i wire for the 4th brake?

    • @chazpages
      @chazpages  7 лет назад

      Yes, unless you wanted to change something. The red wire on the 4th brake light tells the center triangle light to come on, and the blue wire controls the "v". All this mod does is depict whether it flashes or not (center triangle light)

  • @TEJASXO
    @TEJASXO 7 лет назад

    Hey,
    I've wired it up for v2, but the V isnt coming on, only the reverse lights. Should I try v3? or did I screw up wiring somewhere

    • @chazpages
      @chazpages  7 лет назад

      Check wiring (where do the blue and red wires get plugged into?). The only "problem" that could come up is that some lights/cars don't work with version 2...but the issue would be the middle triangle won't light up. After you do the rewire, the "v" is powered by the blue wire from the valenti light, which gets attached to the running light wire on either tail light.

    • @TEJASXO
      @TEJASXO 7 лет назад

      So i cut open the wire for the 4th brake light harness, pulled out the blue and red wires, tapped the blue and red on my valenti drivers side tail lights and connected blue to blue and red to red. Another thing is that when opening up the 4th brake light, i never had the green wire to solder it was blue instead, but I assumed the wires were the same as they were wired the same way as the green one in your vid

    • @chazpages
      @chazpages  7 лет назад

      Did the circuit board/insides look identical? There was an older version of the valenti lights-I have the info for how to rewire those, but I haven't put it together yet. You might have an older version light? If you could send me photos that would be best. Also, how did you make the connections? Wire taps or splice/solder?

    • @TEJASXO
      @TEJASXO 7 лет назад

      They look pretty identical from what I remember. I tapped the wires. I'll remove the light and take some pics of the circuit in a sec

    • @chazpages
      @chazpages  7 лет назад

      wire taps would be the first thing I check. If your light visually looks the same as this video, you're all good. But if it looks different, its probably the older version. How old is the reverse light?

      No, each wiring is a little different but you don’t need to do version 1 and then 2...just do whatever is shown in 2
