I am doing this mod currently, because I think it is a great idea. One thing I have found is using the wires in the video your outlet will only have power as long as the windows are unlocked from the drivers master switch. As soon as I lock it the wire loses voltage which makes sense since it disables the rear window buttons, just an FYI for some one doing this mod. Thanks for the idea.

Haha, I just found this out the other day myself. I was freaking out wondering why they weren't lit up! Then I realized I locked the windows because of the kids, as soon as I unlocked them they turned back on!

Great video, thanks so much for the step by step instructions! My daughter is muuuuch happier in the back now. I especially appreciate how you identified which wires to tap. I only changed up one thing. Folks might find it easier to use a large step drill bit to drill the hole in the armrest. It leaves a much cleaner hole compared to a hole saw.

I appreciate the effort you took to edit and create this video. Your step by step instructions are informative, but not drawn out. I also like how you showed how you narrowed down which wires to tap into using a multimeter. Most videos I’ve seen (even from “professional” shops) are shaky, less organized, and either not as informative or if they are, they’re super over worded like an ADHD squirrel.

Charles, thanks a lot for your video's. I have learned a lot. This video will make my life easier since people in the back will not be running a cord to the front. Was very easy and only took about an hour for both doors. You are a genius,

I just wanted to say thanks for doing this video. I installed USB ports today in my 2021 RAM 2500 and your video was a huge help. I basically did the same setup as you. The funny part was one door was the same as yours in the video as far as the wires. But on the other door my power wire was an orange with a tan strip. The orange with purple went to the window. You would've thought they would've keep the colors identical on the same truck 🤣

Great tip. I've thought about adding USB power in the back, but was unsure about a good spot. Regarding the chargers you picked, I like fact that they have closing caps to be closed when not in use, especially to keep debris and rain out. However, like my inverter that I have back there, the caps will never be closed by the kids and will eventually get broken off by the kids. I suggest buying a few replacements to have on hand when that eventuality happens, so you can quickly exchange them with matching chargers.

Great idea, instructions and warnings! Thanks!
Note: the closer to the door hinge the charging port is mounted, the less the charging cable will move when the door opens. I have a 2017 SLT, but no rear door pocket to hold charging phone (cheaper build / less features every year). I need to put the item being charged on the front-seat-back, so a short charge cable and long movement might pull a phone out when opening the door.

Great Video, very well done. I have a 2013 Ram SLT and I love the truck. However the door alarm and seatbelt alarm drive ne nuts. Because I work on the farm here and have the door open a lot and never use the seatbelts because when I repair fence and in the field there isn't much use for them. Is there a way to disable this thing? I always use my belts when on the road anyway. And I also leave my door open with music on when working. Anyone have an answer for this? Thanks

I'm not sure if this will work for a 2013, but I think it does...
The Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert) can be enabled
or disabled by your authorized dealer or by
      following these steps:
NOTE: The following steps must occur within the first
60 seconds of the ignition switch being turned to the ON
or START position. DaimlerChrysler does not recommend
      deactivating the Enhanced Warning System
      (BeltAlert).
      1. With all doors closed and the ignition switch in any
position except On or Start, buckle the driver’s seat belt.
      2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and wait
for the Seat Belt Warning Light to turn off.
      3. Within 60 seconds of turning the ignition switch to the
ON position, unbuckle and then re-buckle the driver’s
seat belt at least three times within 10 seconds, ending
      with the seat belt buckled.
NOTE: Watch for the Seat Belt Warning Light to turn on
while unbuckling and off while re-buckling the seat belt.
It may be necessary to retract the seat belt.
      4. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position. A
single chime will sound to signify that you have successfully
      completed the programming.
The Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert) can be reactivated
      by repeating this procedure.

  • @joseescobar3521
    @joseescobar3521 3 года назад +1

It doesn’t matter which wire - or + you tap into as long as you don’t have voltage on both wires ?

    • @chazpages
      @chazpages 3 года назад

more or less. You want to use power (both neg and pos) that would normally go to the window motor. Also you need to be careful that the wire without a (+) isn't a wire that normally has no voltage unless you're operating the window (like the signal wire for the window or something).

He ain't lying about how unreliable those little blue snap on wire taps are. They need to be illegal in the united states. It is amazing they are still sold here. I think they are more of a fire hazard than a convenient wire connector.
