I’ve just discovered your channel recently and I love the content! I’ve been collecting Jrpgs for a bit now, I always enjoy having a complete set of releases for a series or publisher, it’s just satisfying
Oh thank you!! Glad you were able to find my small corner of the internet :) And I agree! Set collecting can be so satisfying, I'm like that with some music CDs & books too 😂
So glad to see someone who shares a similar physical collection to mine! I'm sort of a secret JRPG fan/collector because I'm afraid I'd be judged as a grown woman collecting so many physical games lol.
From one JRPG collector to another you have an impressive collection. Happy to say I own all of these games physically as well! Loved the video, I could watch collection videos all day.
Leave speculating for wall street. This is a hobby that doesn't need people fucking it in the ass more by speculation over whether a game will still be $30 in 5 years
I've always loved JRPGs. I actually got back into it again. I just played Tales of Arise and fell in love with it so much that I actually platinum it. I'm thinking of jumping into some of the Tales series now.
Kudos for showing Langrisser, one of my favorites that I’m currently playing right now! Also, Kudos for showing Tales or Vesperia! Another one I’m playing at the moment!
I just bought a switch because I was feeling nostalgic for Pokemon, and i also want to play Breath of the Wild soon. I admire your passion! I'm always a fan of deep divers into subjects, especially when they care as much as you do!
I can't even imagine having to start my collection over at this point... My wallet would never forgive me, for one. But I think you're right in your prioritization - the games you love, the hard-to-come-bys, and then the rest. There's a lot of overlap for me in those first two categories, so I'd be spending a lot regardless. Great video, Emily!
Thanks Branden! I couldn't imagine either tbh, I've spent so much time cultivating my collection over the past few years it would be heartbreaking to start all over again 😭
Glad to hear and that there is someone like me fantasied with JRPG´s. I bought my first switch console in January this year and in less than a month bought 50+ games. I have the most of the games you have. Now I have a huge catalog of games to play as you can tell. I'm on my third game and still buying new titles.
Are JRPGs your favourite genre? Another great video. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on how you'd start a JRPG collection these days. Lots of great stuff out there!
I have lots of VNs on the Switch, though honestly I've only played a small fraction so far 😅 But sure I can look into making a similar video for VNs :)
Loving all the JRPG's on the switch! Thanks for the recs I feel like we're in a mini golden age for Tactical JRPG's. Fire Emblem, Triangle Strategy, and Tactics Ogre Reborn are some of my current favs.
Great video, Emily! I think the Switch has quickly become one of, if not, the best platform for building up a collection, thanks to the system itself continuing to sell well, making it more viable for publishers to reprint games more often. Wondering if you would recommend prioritizing getter limited releases from places like Limited Run Games. I know the Grandia HD Collection is one of the more valuable games for Switch collectors, which is one of their more popular releases. Unfortunately have had to put a hold on collecting and start going digital lately since I may have to move in the near future and don't know how much space I'll have access to, but it's super cool to see your insights and knowledge on collecting!
Yeah totally, it's been great witnessing the Switch's huge success over the years. With regard to LRG, I would personally go for games that interest you the most. I've seen with a lot of popular titles like Grandia HD get released on playasia as Asian-English editions or sometimes even regular retail releases at the standard stores so the 'value' of those games are really not worthwhile imo. While I've purchased a few LRG games in the past they can be a bit frustrating to wait on, and sometimes the Asian-English or regular retail releases come out way before the LRG pre-orders do. So it's up to you whether to buy through them or not. I have a few pre-orders I'm waiting on now and I try to be very selective when choosing which to purchase.
Great video! I learned the hard way about some of these publishers like when I missed the Atelier trilogy titles :( Also excellent point about different copies that include DLC!
this is a great video, Emily. in Europe, the games tend to be better stocked hence the need for less reprints (especially if you buy directly from the publishers online stores). The price spikes here for modern games aren't as bad as in the US (although it does happen, like with the first Blue Reflection).
Thanks Milla! The stocking/pricing differences between Europe and NA have been interesting to follow. I wonder if there'll ever be a time when they'll completely do away with region specific versions. I doubt it'll happen anytime soon because of different region restrictions & regulation procedures. But with the rise of importing & getting rid of region locking the different regional versions seem a bit unnecessary 😅
@@orbalology They can't, because of law differences. For example in the UK the legal age of consent is 16 and for alcohol is 18. So what may be an M in America may only be a 16 in Europe. To make it a M/18 everey where lead to loss of sales in certain regions. I'm sure there are other reasons as well.
@@nicklong27 I'm aware of the different law/restrictions. With importing becoming more of the norm it seems a bit pointless imo. Makes you wonder if they'll eventually try to enforce stricter import policies for games in some countries, or come to some sort of compromise in the future to avoid the extra work.
@@orbalology No, I don't think they'll restrict imports, if anything more consoles are becoming region free these days. I think they have to certify their games for their home regions to be seen to be doing the right thing. But I don't think they care if people jump through a few hoops to import games, in the end it means more money for everyone. Nice video by the way, I have most of the games you showed :)
Thank you, I wish I'd watched this exact video a few years ago! I've fallen foul of price rises for games I put off buying because they went out of print :(
I bought a switch last month and I am no longer using my xbox since. I am soooo happy to find this video. Since I've been addicted to collecting the JRPG I've missed all these years ignoring the switch.Thank you!
this was a great overview of RPGs on the system, I know this is mostly about collecting but still might be worthwhile to mention game sales on the digital versions
Great list! Also I gotta comment beautiful girl too 😂. Subbed. There was some titles I haven’t seen before that I added to my must have list. Thanks a bunch!
I got addicted to collecting for the switch for the past couple of years. Glad I found your channel since you also seem to check what games are good and are of value! Also, Tactics Ogre Reborn is a MUST!
Thank you! I feel a little silly that Valkyria Chronicels 4 was one of the first Switch games I bought a couple years ago but I still haven't played it. I'm currently making a 'plan-of-attack' backlog list for next year so I should probably place this one high on it 😂
Great advice! It's difficult and expensive trying to keep up with all of the JRPGs that are released on the Switch. It can also be difficult to judge which games will be hard to find later. I typically wait a month or so after a new JRPG is released to determine if I should get it sooner than later. If I see it readily available at Gamestop or other stores then usually I can wait for a price drop. If not, I go ahead and buy it at full price. Of course, it doesn't always work in my favor but it does more often than not. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! Yeah collecting can be a bit tricky to navigate, but your method sounds like a solid option. I try not to be too worried when something I was waiting on (or overlooked) extends outside of my price range. There are always potential reprints and ports to other consoles (maybe even to the new Switch) that I try not to get too down if I miss something. There are also so many games already vying for my attention so it's ok if a few slip through the cracks 😅
This sort of applies to a lot of games in general, but I've noticed in the UK games come with a lot of "stuff" when you get them at release from certain retailers, and I think that sways me to pick them up new sometimes, like SMTV came with the steel book, a poster and a keyring, Three Houses had a coin, and Triangle Strategy came with this really beautiful hardback notebook, that seems way too nice to be given away for free. I sorta wish I'd have gotten the Diofield Chronicle steel book now, but I decided to get it cheaper from a different retailer, Oh well.
Certainly, you can apply this to any type of collection. Here in NA there aren't that many worthwhile preorder bonuses anymore sadly. They've really been meager this past year especially.
I'm just now getting a switch, I really want to get into RPGs and JRPGs! This is a super nice video to watch because frankly it's all very intimidating 😂
i can completely agree with the Idea factory games i collect for. I preordered Dragon star varnir from them and really enjoyed the 3 tiers of levels/planes you can place people on. the story was very lack luster IMO but i loved that it Is realatively cheap and for what its worth tried something new with the turn base genre. That being said i recently had my preorders come in for the Neptunia reverse limited collection and the Sisters VS Sisters collections come in for the PS5. I find it outworldly that a sealed version of Reverse limited is fetching almost 600+ sealed right now. and Sisters vs sisters is relatively close to what i paid out the gate. The reverse i had to have a fellow friend from Canada import from his game shop and ship it to me because the US was sold out within minutes.
Very cool video, subbed. A lot of variety and detail in this. Also please do that video on your opinion on big collections being worth/not worth in future :)
Haha we'll see about that future video. I'll have to decide if I want to deal with hate comments from those who are hostile towards anyone questioning these types of financial decisions 😅
It’s funny, I actually wrote an editorial about how collecting video games is a waste of my money, since I’m not buying games as an “investment”. I’d be curious to hear what you have to say about it too!
Knowing that Japanese is read from right to left, and seeing the order your 20 games were placed, I can agree with your S and A ranked game choices (if Triangle Strategy wasn't pushed as a Nintendo title, I could see any one of those B ranks as a valid choice). I would definitely like to hear your opinion on value speculations, and maybe a theory on why a red coloured Switch Lite was never released in America (blue is player 2).
Wow, I have almost every game you showed. My Switch backlog is so massive, seeing it laid out like that really put it in perspective lol. From what you showed I'm guessing you aren't a big fan of all the indie pixel jrpg all over the Switch. Those have really added a lot to my collection. Play Asia has definitely helped a lot there.
So I do have a few indie pixel rpgs, like Phoenotopia Awakening for example, I guess I didn't pull them out for this video 😅 I've been looking to buy more of the classic remasters too on PlayAsia, they are a really great resource to obtaining many of those Asian English releases.
@@orbalology if you feel like picking up some more indie I can suggest Eastward which is more action rpg, and a true hidden gem I recommend to everyone called The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa. If you've heard of it, I'd love to hear your thoughts, cheers.
I picked up Eastward earlier this year actually! I kept hearing Zelda comparisons so it sounds right up my alley. I hadn't heard about the other one but I'll give it a look, thanks!
This was a great video that summarizes jrpg collecting for the Switch right now! It’s a real money bank drain to collect for the Switch, especially niche games that go out of print like jrpgs 😢
Thanks! The Switch is so overwhelming to collect for these days! I know I flashed a ton of games in this video but my Amazon wish list is like 50 games deep of JRPGs alone 🙈
I've been getting into collecting switch games so much even tho I don't play to much atm. But seeing the switch doing cartridge based games I think its gonna be huge later just because of how well the games will hold up with age compared to a cd/disk. And I know at some point in the future I will have time to play games and im collecting games I know I will enjoy and have sooooo many games left to get!
Haha I feel similar. I've been scooping up so many games recently and only have time to play a fraction of them. But you're right one of the highlights about these carts is that they were build to last. The hunt for games on the Switch is also fun in itself :)
I'm glad I had older siblings who collected things. A lot of my peers sold off games in high school but I kept most of my RPG collection in tact and it's crazy how much it's appreciated. I just buy whatever looks interesting now when I see it drop to $20-25 on switch.
I unfortunately have a younger sibling who decided to trade in our old games when I left for college 😅 And yup you can get a lot of great titles by just waiting for those price drops!
I love the Y's games. All my other rpg favorite are on the PS1 and PS2. Lunar The silver Star being my absolute favorite then following Grandia, Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy and acouple others. Those were my good ol RPG days right there. I miss those days cause I had ALOT more time on my hands. Lol
I enjoy collecting physical games but the speculative market, pricing and availability can get very tiring. I've resigned to pick up most of these games on steam so I can actually get a good discount and price. Trying to keep in focus that playing games is more important than collecting.
Haha the Cold Steel OST is great. I've been meaning to rip the rest of my physical OST CDs and incorporate them into my future videos. I don't have that many but it's good to vary the tunes~
@@orbalology YES!! its sooooo good. The story is engaging, gameplay is solid and the 2d graphics invoke a very nostalgic feeling in old school rpg enthusiasts. Highly recommend
I lost a travel case with 24 of my games, it was a nightmare to find them again at reasonable prices. Many of them you mentioned in this video. Thankfully I kept the boxes so finding the cartridges made it a little bit cheaper with some patience and a lot of haggling.
Oh no that's one of my big fears when traveling with my systems! But yeah finding just the carts by themselves can help reduce the cost. Hope you were able to recover them all successfully!
If I where to lose my JRPG collection… I’ll go cry in a corner for a few days then go all digital lol jk I’ll probably focus on my favs and work from there I totally agree with what you said about buying games you actually like opposed to buying games just to buy them. I’m not here to judge but I like my collection to be more personal to me. I don’t factor in how rare it might be down the line
Oh I would be so sad too if I lost my collection or had to sell it during tough times 😭 But agreed, I find it so much more stratifying having a shelf filled with games I love vs. just a shelf of potentially rare games. I've been doing a lot of buying lately so I will probably have to do some shelf purging eventually. I know a lot of people are opposed to selling games but I really like organic collections, and tastes/preferences change over time so I like to have my collection to grow with me as well in that way.
@@orbalology well said. I am the same, Where the rarity thing comes in is when I am not sure if I will like a game or not AND I think it will be hard to find then I tend to just impulse buy. This is a double edged sword. On the one hand I picked up a few that I ended up loving but on the downside I ended up with some full price 60 quid games that were not my thing at all. Might have to gather up a few to sell because I also love beating all my games and hate having games sitting on my shelf not beaten lol. Weird I know.
Always prioritize getting things you want over what you think will be valuable. I don't have a giant switch library but I am happy with how it's coming along. I plan to grab Persona 5 Royal and Nier Automata soon
yes i had finished P5R on PS4.. great storylines highlighting some of the social issues like discrimination, status inequality, power misuse, plagiarism, corruption, enslavement etc. Slice of Life enjoying normal school life and crime fighting life. Persona is always this good and unique. Cannot think of any other great games which is similar to the Persona series. Any?
@@youcantseelim1751 The Trails games are the closest I can think of, but it's not one to one. I'm a big fan of the Xenoblade Chronicles games as well if you have a switch
Just found your channel, loved the video! I started my switch collecting trying to get every switch game that I thought looked fun or interesting but when they kept releasing games left and right my wallet couldn’t keep up so I downsized my collection and only collect games I really like or the ones I need to have, 😅 anyways I’m subbing right now!
No need to apologize! I always appreciate thoughtful comments :) And I agree - the Switch has such an extensive library and the collecting rabbithole has really gotten to be a bit much 😅 My collection has grown so much larger than I anticipated when I started focusing on it a few years ago but I feel like a collection's organic changes are some of the more enjoyable aspects about collecting. Whether it's with additions or reductions, I really like honing in on what my collection means to me and letting it evolve over time 😊
I went to GameStop tonight and saw Trails of Cold Steel 3 for $30 and 4 for $50. I was waffling on them and went for Cuphead, Giraffe and Annika, and Hat in Time. I’m semi-regretting not picking the trails games up after seeing how good this prices were compared to eBay. I have more rpgs than I can handle, though, but I love a good story and always tell myself I’ll get to them eventually. I’m really looking forward to eventually getting into the Atellier games. 13 Sentinels was phenomenal, and going into the story (mostly) blind was a real treat. Great guide!
Thanks! Oh man you may want to go back and snag those Cold Steel games 😂 But yup I think it's common for RPG fans to have massive backlogs haha. I'm glad to hear you loved 13 Sentinels too - the story really is fantastic and I would love to see more games like this from Vanillaware in the future!
@@orbalology I took your advice and made the drive back in hopes I would find them, and they were still there! Afterward, I swung by the local brick and mortar game store and picked up Trails from Zero. It looks like Trails of Cold Zero 1 and 2 didn’t get a western physical release on Switch. I’ve heard that it’s best to play them in order. I can’t remember if you said you played them yet or not. If you did, what would you recommend?
@@matthewhocker956 I would recommend starting from Trails for Zero as your first Trails game if you only have access on the Switch. Ideally you can start with the Trails in the Sky arc (that's available on PC/steam deck/psp/hacked psvita) but if you want to try out the Trails games to see if you want to invest in the on other platforms then Zero is a great place to start. You can in theory jump right to Trails of Cold Steel III after but I wouldn't recommend it because the series is more enjoyable with each entry building on one another.
I have an entire cubbard full of NIS limited's and the more I think about it. It really is something that I kind of wish I didn't get to deep into collecting limited edition sets, especially for games that pretty niche. The value of these are extremly high so I guess in terms of the cost worthy investment, its worth it but the games them selfs and all the money I put into it, some of them are good well others not so much. I mean literally spending $140 for a limited game that was no more then 5 hrs of gameplay lol. Not worth that cost. In any case I guess im considering just reselling some of them and get the money back and use it on something more worthwhile for my collections.
It took me years to build up my Jrpg & RPG Nintendo Switch Collection I own over 131 Nintendo Switch Games I got some videos my collection on my YT Channel.
most likely i have been a gamer since the 80's and 90's and to this day i continue to collect old games, recently back in 2004 i have ordered through mail - YS Ark of Napishtim and i didn't know this game had sequels that weren't ported to any other consoles except over in japan. fast forward to 2008 i finally learned of the YS series and was able to buy each title that came right after the next series. i now own all 8 titles to YS in Limited Edition which i had become more interested in these series ever since Part 6 which was the very first one i played, after further more into the series, i learned that Falcom had already made more YS series but in the different title which we know them by today. Faxanadu - Dragon Slayer + Legacy of the Wizard + which in terms became what we call now - The Legend of Heroes Series. and i played Faxanadu which happens to be the very first YS game.
It's better to be safe than sorry sometimes. Though I usually feel bad for pre-ordering a game and seeing the price greatly reduce before I get a chance to play it 😅
A coworker and me were discussing the pegi versions of games. We can't really describe why but I know if I could shell up a few more dollars for an American version I'll get it. I think it's weird but something us gamers know all too well. Great video I enjoyed your in depth look into different series.
@@orbalology I made that mistake recently with the final fantasy 7/ final fantasy 8 remaster. I ordered it on Amazon and while the pictures showed a Asian import version I got the European and I don't know why but it bugs me! Lol I should just be happy I have the game at all.
@@orbalology wargroove, Crystar,Fallen legion, and the Caligula effect. Ive heard about the latter in passing but never much. I look forward to watching more rpg videos from you.
I had blue reflection and sakuna in my "trade pile" since I wasn't thinking about playing them any time soon. Watching your video has me thinking about holding on to them though, just in case.
The Caligula Effect 2 was such a pain in the ass for me to get a hold of. But that's just typical of NIS America in general. So I totally agree with your sentiment to prioritize their games. For me one thing I tend to do when it comes to collecting or rather not collect is can I easily access most of the games in the franchise in an affordable manner? So for example, while I'm sure I would love the Atelier games or the Trails of games, especially Trails of, is that there are so many games in the franchise and trying to collect for them is not very easy nor financially responsible FOR ME. I'd love to get Trails of Cold Steel 1-4 but them being spilt across multiple platforms kind makes my head spin. Similarly with the Atelier series, so many games on switch, even if they're not connected to each other like the Trails of games, just the thought of trying to go back purchase them all, my brain just kind of shuts down lol. That's why for games like Xenoblade having pretty much all of the minus Xenoblade Chronicles X (which is a travesty), is so appealing to my sense of collecting as they're aren't many and I was able to pick them up slowly over time. ^^ As always you knock another video out of the ballpark with your delivery and logical sensibility ^^
Yeah it can certainly be intimidating (and expensive) to collect the long running series all at once! The nice thing about Trails and the Atelier series is that if you're interested in playing them you can just focus on one of the story arcs (e.g. Crossbell or the Ryza games) to see if you like them, and if you do then you can then consider expanding the series collection or keeping it as is. But if you would rather not just dabble in a just few games in a series that's fine too!
Great video guide Emily. I'm still waiting for Atlus to release a new Etrian Odyssey on the Switch. Maybe they haven't because is a very DS/3DS kind of game.
I would love for Atlus to continue that series on the Switch. There are a few other dungeon crawlers on the system but you're right the mapping aspect especially was so suited for the DS/3DS system it may be hard to properly translate onto the Switch.
I hope you enjoy it! It's a cool SRPG, though I had a few qualms with how they presented the story. I recommend playing it with the Japanese voice acting too if you find the English voice acting a bit slow.
I started collecting for the switch but I eventually quit after about a year. I don't really like how a lot of games look and play on my switch. Also switch is pretty expensive to collect for considering the games don't get discounts often enough. Keeping the value is perhaps a good reason to collect switch games. Kind of a double edge sword with me.
Love this video! Instant follow :) i would be interested to know what your favourite JRPGs are. I’m playing Fire Emblem Three Houses for the first time and I love it
Did you talk about any of the Mary Skelter games? I have 1 and 2 double pack and the Finale. Their great dungeon crawling rpgs. I think you did a great job with this video!
Oh I didn't mention them but they are really good ones to look out for rn. I know they totally slashed the prices on Mary Skelter Finale and it's becoming harder to find. The double pack you can still get on the LRG Amazon storefront so that should be available for a little while longer at least. I haven't dived into many first person dungeon crawlers but they are the subset of jrpgs that tend to go out of stock the fastest it seems.
I buy the cheaper versions for other systems if I can. Xenoblade Chronicles for the 3DS was under $10 and the FFX and X-2 compilation for the PS3 was under 20 when I picked it up. I agree, it’s about the gaming and not the owning.
For Xenoblade Chronicles I would really encourage getting the Definitive Switch edition. I find the 3DS game a bit too hard on the eyes & difficult to navigate personally 😅 Last year they had it priced new around $27 so deals are definitely out there. But yeah if you have other consoles that have these games cheaper (and you don't necessarily need the physical portable version) that is a perfectly fine option to consider.
Yes! You get the same epic story. The Switch has some quality of life improvements and overall graphical upgrades that make the experience more immersive and enjoyable imo.
I momentarily forgot that the Switch version has an extra epilogue story extension called Future Connected that is very much worth playing through. So another reason to consider getting that edition :)
There's also grandia hd collection, brigandine, shining resonance refrain, poison control that could stop or has stop its prints. If you have the chance to found one at a good price grab it
Those are good titles to look out for - based off of NISA's survey it looks like they may be restocking Poison Control, and Shining Resonance Refrain recently had a restock for the standard edition (so it doesn't come in that cool metal slip case). The Asian-English titles are tricky because I feel like PlayAsia has been pushing for restocks on those titles but you're right they could always stop production for those anytime like they have on a few other Asian exclusives.
I'm not too big on getting special editions (especially since they started omitting physical games in some) but one series I always try to get is Fire Emblem.
Yeah it seems like a lot of the Special Editions are very minimal these days - just large pieces of cardboard without much content 😅 I've tried to narrow down my prospective LEs to just ~5 franchises. Hopefully I'll be able to stick to just those 😅
@@baldchinchilla so my short list right now is Zelda, Trails, Xenoblade, Ys, and FE. Though I broke down earlier this summer and bought the psychonauts 1&2 iam8bit package 😂
@orbalology I don't blame you psychonauts is awesome. How easy is it to play the Ys series? If I got into it now would I be able to buy most of it on newer consoles?
@@baldchinchilla the nice thing about ys is that all the games are self contained, so you can start anywhere! They focus on the same main character Adol but the story usually involves amnesia so you really need previous knowledge past games. I really love the action combat in these, they have really slick controls that make it fun and addictive. Not all the games are available on modern consoles sadly (Falcom & xseed have some beef it seems like when it comes to modern localizations after they switched to NISA). But you can most of not all on steam at least. The ones I showed today (origin, viii, ix) are good places to start, along with memories of celceta (which is on the vita or PS4).
Nice collection. I notice you are missing ASTRAL CHAIN and DUSK DIVER. You should get those ones as well (they are pretty good). I got all the Xenoblade Chronicle franchise collection on my Switch. Same as YS, Personas and Bayonetta. But The rest of my JRPG collections are from my PS5 and PS4 mainly. You should get Playstation if you want to try out other JRPGs. They have a lot more exclusive games there than Switch.
I actually own Astral Chain but currently loaning it out to my brother - it's a great game! I hear a lot of good things about the first Dusk Diver and was thinking of picking it up soonish. And yup I've been slowly getting back into PlayStation collecting, it's just these days it's easier to play on a handheld system instead of on a monitor.
@@orbalology Nice. I would recommend to get a new JRPG that is coming out on PS4. It's called Samurai Maiden and it's only in Japanese and also English subtitle. I got my one from my brother when he went to Philippines last week. Told him to buy it for me as brand new. Whenever I buy and collect games, I always prefer to buy them as brand new. Not a fan of second hand.
One that gets me is how expensive langrisser on switch got literally a few months after it's release. I missed it in its release and wound up having to buy digital just to be able to play it
Yeah I think that title unfortunately got caught up in the speculation hype once people started to notice how few copies NISA put out into circulation. It would be nice if they did another reprint in the upcoming restock sale for those that missed out.
I've been eyeing that title recently actually! I've heard mixed things about the VN storyline and the shmuck elements but I've seen it deeply discounted so I was thinking of picking it up to give it a try.
@@orbalology yeah me too def, when the blind princess first released was it distributed only ad a storybook edition like the cruel king or did it have a standard release? Cuz the blind princess just the the standard switch case of the game goes for over 200$

@@orbalology apologies, I should have said there is no NTSC version but there a European version and Australian version (English cover, etc), which I think has been out since release.

I just bought a switch because I was feeling nostalgic for Pokemon, and i also want to play Breath of the Wild soon. I admire your passion! I'm always a fan of deep divers into subjects, especially when they care as much as you do!
Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy playing your new Switch. There's lots of great games to discover on there :)
I do it slowly also wait till black Friday you can find some good deals.
Glad to hear and that there is someone like me fantasied with JRPG´s. I bought my first switch console in January this year and in less than a month bought 50+ games. I have the most of the games you have. Now I have a huge catalog of games to play as you can tell. I'm on my third game and still buying new titles.
Buying JRPGs can be rather addicting but a fun hobby on it's own (it definitely is for me) 😊
Are JRPGs your favourite genre? Another great video. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on how you'd start a JRPG collection these days. Lots of great stuff out there!
Such a fun video! I'm amazed by your collection 😳 Would love a vid about your visual novel collection if you have one 😍
I have lots of VNs on the Switch, though honestly I've only played a small fraction so far 😅 But sure I can look into making a similar video for VNs :)
im tio plato and im best 😈😈😈
Its totally unrelated to the Switch but Ive always loved the Legend of Legaia and Shadow Hearts series of JRPG's
They were better than any of the jrpgs on the switch. Hell even Legaia 2 was great.
Loving all the JRPG's on the switch! Thanks for the recs
I feel like we're in a mini golden age for Tactical JRPG's. Fire Emblem, Triangle Strategy, and Tactics Ogre Reborn are some of my current favs.
I'm really loving the return of the SRPGs too! Really excited to see even more come out next year :)
@@orbalology Any word if they're going to do a Final Fantasy Tactics remake?
I haven't seen any news but it wouldn't surprise me if we see an HD-2D remaster of it some day!
Ah Blue Reflection 2 was my goty last year. Not even really a massive jrpg fan but that one was really special. Loved it.
I've been really adoring the GUST games. I hear Blue Reflection is very similar to the Atelier titles so I can't wait to try it.
@@orbalology I played the two Ryza games and honestly, I rate it above those. It's magical ✨
Thank you! And I think the Atelier trilogy packs got restocked, I was able to get them during the PlayAsia sale that happened recently.
Thanks for sharing, Em! As always, you are the authority on JRPGs! Great video!
Haha I really love to research games which unfortunately makes me want to buy a lot of games 😂 But thank you 😄
Thank you, I guess I didn’t realize how many JRPGs are on switch now I might pick up a few of these titles up myself! 👍😁
There are lots of JRPGs to consider, and so many more coming out next year 😂
this is a great video, Emily. in Europe, the games tend to be better stocked hence the need for less reprints (especially if you buy directly from the publishers online stores).
I've fallen foul of price rises for games I put off buying because they went out of print :(
Same sadly 😅 But it's a learning experience at least!
Thank you for this video, even as a JRPG fan and Switch owner since 2017 this was a great resource
Thanks! I'm glad to hear you found it useful :)
I luckily have all these and about 68 other jrpgs for switch. Your limited run scroll made me happy to see othercide getting more copies
Yeah I was happy that most of the non-numbered LRGs are widely available now.
Discovered your channel the other day and the videos are informative. Started a list of jrpgs for switch.
I'm glad to hear the videos have been helpful for you! Best of luck with scooping up some good Switch JRPGs :)
I bought a switch last month and I am no longer using my xbox since. I am soooo happy to find this video. Since I've been addicted to collecting the JRPG I've missed all these years ignoring the switch.Thank you!
I'm glad to hear you found this video helpful. Best of luck with your Switch collecting 😄
Wow that is a lot of good games! Thanks for the video.
My pleasure, hope you found some interesting recommendations to try out :)
this was a great overview of RPGs on the system, I know this is mostly about collecting but still might be worthwhile to mention game sales on the digital versions
True! Digital games are worth mentioning and a much better alternative to overpaying for some of the harder to find physical releases.
I keep hearing wonderful things about Tactics Ogre Reborn & excited to grab it (hopefully on sale) someday :)
Great video and excellent guide! Some I really need to pick up - mainly Valkyria Chronicles 4!!!
@@orbalology Sounds like you have great self control! haha.
@@birdazoid oh I wish, but I'm trying to get better 😂
Oh I'm glad that this video helps! With the Switch's massive library I can see how intimidating it could be for those just starting out.
i can completely agree with the Idea factory games i collect for.
A great video! I especially enjoyed your talk about games not being a good speculative asset. Buy games you enjoy; that's where the true value lies!
Thanks! And I couldn't agree more :)
Really love you channel. Thanks to you I found games that was hard to find on one of your videos explaining the site that you look into.
Oh I'm glad to hear these videos have been helpful to you!
Lol
A value speculation video would be awesome!
I appreciate the unique video topics! Keep it up!
Thank you so much 😊
Well as someone whose switch collection is very new (12 games), my wish list is now even bigger hahaha. Great video!
Thank you!! Glad I was able to offer some recommendations for your growing collection :)
I enjoy collecting physical games but the speculative market, pricing and availability can get very tiring. I've resigned to pick up most of these games on steam so I can actually get a good discount and price. Trying to keep in focus that playing games is more important than collecting.
Hearing some deep cuts from the Trails of Cold Steel II OST for your background music is much appreciated
Haha the Cold Steel OST is great. I've been meaning to rip the rest of my physical OST CDs and incorporate them into my future videos. I don't have that many but it's good to vary the tunes~
triangle strategy blew every rpg for the switch out the water for me. I think thats the 1st game any switch owner needs in a "collection"
I've seen it listed as a lot of people's GOTY for 2022. I really need to play it ASAP 😅
@@orbalology YES!! its sooooo good. The story is engaging, gameplay is solid and the 2d graphics invoke a very nostalgic feeling in old school rpg enthusiasts. Highly recommend
One of my favorite games ever. It stands apart.
I remember wanting Valkyria Chronicles 4 on Switch, but my mom got it for me on PS4, but because it was a gift from my mom, I cherish it now ♥️
Gifts from family always make games more special :)
Really solid channel so far. Love the content, keep it up
Thanks! 😄
Hope you were able to recover them all successfully!
too late now and depends on the circumstances i guess but.... i wouldnt travel with anything that you cant afford to lose.
Well made video Emily (instant sub). You really know your JRPGs. My copy of 13 Sentinels should be arriving soon 😎👍
Oh I hope you enjoy 13 Sentinels, the story is really fantastic :)
If I where to lose my JRPG collection… I’ll go cry in a corner for a few days then go all digital lol jk I’ll probably focus on my favs and work from there
I totally agree with what you said about buying games you actually like opposed to buying games just to buy them. I’m not here to judge but I like my collection to be more personal to me. I don’t factor in how rare it might be down the line
Oh I would be so sad too if I lost my collection or had to sell it during tough times 😭
But agreed, I find it so much more stratifying having a shelf filled with games I love vs. just a shelf of potentially rare games.
Not that weird - it's nice to have a dedicated space to display your gaming accomplishments :)
Always prioritize getting things you want over what you think will be valuable. I don't have a giant switch library but I am happy with how it's coming along. I plan to grab Persona 5 Royal and Nier Automata soon
Oh nice - I hear both of those run great on the Switch!
yes i had finished P5R on PS4.. great storylines highlighting some of the social issues like discrimination, status inequality, power misuse, plagiarism, corruption, enslavement etc.
Just the video I needed! Subscribed 😊
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful :)
Great vid. (Just saw it today) ur great also! Glad i found ur channel
Thanks! 😄
I love the switch. The jrpgs on it are beautiful and varied.
The Switch has really become one of the best places to pick up JRPGs!
Great insider info, thanks for sharing. ❤
My pleasure :)
Sorry I didn’t mean to write a book
No need to apologize! I always appreciate thoughtful comments :)
And I agree - the Switch has such an extensive library and the collecting rabbithole has really gotten to be a bit much 😅 My collection has grown so much larger than I anticipated when I started focusing on it a few years ago but I feel like a collection's organic changes are some of the more enjoyable aspects about collecting. Whether it's with additions or reductions, I really like honing in on what my collection means to me and letting it evolve over time 😊
Out of all that - I'm glad I have valkyria chronicles 4 physical 🎉
Your video is a good way to start the week, 😁. Thank you!
Yay, I'm glad to hear 😄
Gotta add Chained Echos to your collection. You'll love it
It looks great! Just waiting for the physical versions to be released :)
Interesting video idea. Well done!
Thank you!! 😄
Great video! Very informative.
Thanks!! I'm glad to hear you found it informative :)
Wow you rock - you deserve about 100k subs at least !
Thanks :)
Sakuna is one of my favourite games. It's hard to believe it was made with so few people.
It's such a charming game! I just looked it up and didn't realize Edelweiss was a two-man team! That's so impressive.
most likely i have been a gamer since the 80's and 90's and to this day
i continue to collect old games, recently back in 2004 i have ordered through
mail - YS Ark of Napishtim and i didn't know this game had sequels that weren't
ported to any other consoles except over in japan.
fast forward to 2008 i finally learned of the YS series and was able to buy each
title that came right after the next series. i now own all 8 titles to YS in Limited
Edition which i had become more interested in these series ever since Part 6
which was the very first one i played, after further more into the series, i learned
that Falcom had already made more YS series but in the different title which we
know them by today.
Faxanadu - Dragon Slayer + Legacy of the Wizard + which in terms became
what we call now - The Legend of Heroes Series.
and i played Faxanadu which happens to be the very first YS game.
I'm excited for the new Ys announcements we got yesterday. It's nice to hear that they're remastering Oath of Felghana for the Switch.
great video to watch while eating dinner :D
Haha glad you enjoyed this long one :)
Your channel is so cool, love your videos and your voice! You should invest some money and get a mic, your voice deserve it ❤
Amazing choice !
This is such a good haul!😃💖👍 Amazing choices! Valkyria Chronicles 4 & Crystar are severely underrated. The Atelier games are massive fun too
Thanks! Agreed those games are overlooked way too often.
I preorder jrpgs I’m interested in right away just in case.
Thanks! Yeah I usually prefer edition uniformity so I think that's the main reason why I try to avoid them even when they're a cheaper alternative 😅
@@orbalology I made that mistake recently with the final fantasy 7/ final fantasy 8 remaster. I ordered it on Amazon and while the pictures showed a Asian import version I got the European and I don't know why but it bugs me! Lol I should just be happy I have the game at all.
@@Psycoma72 I've gotten swindled like this by Amazon 3rd party sellers too haha. It's made me more hesitant to order blindly on there 😂
Wow. You mentioned a few I’ve never heard of. Subbed.
Oh which games? I'm curious :)
Sitting on them a little longer may be worthwhile!
As always you knock another video out of the ballpark with your delivery and logical sensibility ^^
You have a good collection, Saturday i get Triangle Strategy 👍
I’m playing Fire Emblem Three Houses for the first time and I love it
Never mind I see you included a bit at the end!
Haha no worries! I'm glad to hear you've been enjoying FE3H, I'm super excited for Engage next month 😊
BTW, this was a really fun video. I watched it twice. The second time with a latte and a custard snack.
^ ^
For Xenoblade Chronicles I would really encourage getting the Definitive Switch edition. I find the 3DS game a bit too hard on the eyes & difficult to navigate personally 😅 Last year they had it priced new around $27 so deals are definitely out there.
But yeah if you have other consoles that have these games cheaper (and you don't necessarily need the physical portable version) that is a perfectly fine option to consider.
Point taken. But it is the same story on the 3DS?

Thanks! 😄
Hopefully I'll be able to stick to just those 😅
@orbalology let me guess the trails of series, tales of, atelier, fire emblem and ratchet & clank?
Have you picked Yurukill? It's a VN by NIS that looks like it will become a rarity.
I've been eyeing that title recently actually! I've heard mixed things about the VN storyline and the shmuck elements but I've seen it deeply discounted so I was thinking of picking it up to give it a try.
Can you imagine if the blind princess got a new print run lol, great video by the way
I hope it does and that NISA restock survey comes through. It probably won't come with the storybook but I'd take just the case & cart. And thanks :)
@@orbalology yeah me too def, when the blind princess first released was it distributed only ad a storybook edition like the cruel king or did it have a standard release? Cuz the blind princess just the the standard switch case of the game goes for over 200$
@@sierrakobold6896 Yeah, it came with a cute little storybook in a similar deluxe box edition. Not sure if there was anything else included.
I'm currently playing Dragon Quest 11, Xenoblade 3, and Persona 5 royal. Oh boy where can I stop time so I can play these great games.
Oh I feel this so much 😂
Fantastic games, just noticed you mentioned Oninaki was a Japanese exclusive, you can get them in English countries without too much hassle. Keep up the good work, just subscribed!
It have a German Release with englisch Subtitels
I was struggling finding a Japanese copy a few months ago but maybe Square Enix did another restock (which is great).
@@orbalology apologies, I should have said there is no NTSC version but there a European version and Australian version (English cover, etc), which I think has been out since release.
One big factors is that i like about Switch is that Nintendo had a epic n Grand return with a strong n great library of JRPGs ever since with Gamecube with Baten Kaitos, Lost Kingdoms 2, Skies of Arcadia n Fire Emblem
They really did! It's becoming one of the best JRPG libraries to date :)
@@orbalology Yep Nintendo Switch has a amazingly Great library of JRPGs
its so hard to me to not open the games and play them, then i see you with a lot of sealed games and i think im loosing money :c, really nice video a lot of awesome recomendations
Haha yeah a few games I like to keep sealed because I know I won't be getting around to them soon, and it's easier to keep them in better condition/away from dust when their wrapped in plastic 😅
Interesting
Awesome information, how do you have time to play all these games?
Haha sadly I haven't had too much time lately but I try to get in at least 1-2 hours a night.
@@orbalology that’s actually pretty good 1-2 hours a night, actually my goal lol
Nice collection!
Thank you!! 😄
Brilliant
