It actually makes Golem and monsters that mention it unaffected by activated monster effects and it lets you Miracle Fusion a monster that mentions Golem and gives it 3 attacks per turn. Volcanic Emperor really is one of the best archetype boss monster designs: it doesn't have an omni-negate, it doesn't floodgate, it isn't an Extra Deck monster, and it has a specific summoning condition that prevents other decks from cheating it out, but it still works with and enhances the archetype's playstyle instead of going in some random completely different direction. I really wish they had made all the Ancient Gear support all "normal summon an 'Ancient Gear' monster from your deck without tributing" instead of special summoning. Not only would it let them get around the older cards' "can't be special summoned" text without having to tack on "ignoring summoning conditions", but it would make the archetype more unique, lean into the theme of them being Ancient and thus powered by normal summons instead of specials, and let them play around things like Maxx C. I do love how Commander is literally Crowler, Duel Disk and all.

The exclusivity of main deck boss monsters is absolutely something that makes them more likeable but also main deck boss monsters are more likely to remain in decks dedicated to them and be the primary win-con of the deck. So it's not just that a main deck boss monster is more unique for the person who is not using it, but it's more unique for the person who is using it. Look at something like Superheavy Samurai - you could be a huge Superheavy Samurai fan and when you hear that they're top tier due to legacy support you get excited then look at the end board you're supposed to make and say, "But where are the Superheavy Samurai cards?" It drags the experience down for people who actually LIKE the deck if your win-con relies on not actually using the cards that you enjoy the deck for. Something being a main deck boss monster means that more of the deck needs to be molded around it. A lot of Extra Deck boss monsters get stolen because either they have generic requirements or they're so simple to make that you can get to them by throwing in like a single E-Tele or something. tl;dr Less abusable by people who don't like the deck and more encouraged for people who do like the deck. It has more "soul" for lack of a better term.

The only workaround would be to write it like "add 1 Ancient Gear monster from your deck, then Normal Summon it without tributing." Additionally it really doesn't make that much of difference and special summoning ignoring summoning conditions is an simpler solution than adding a card and then normal summoning it without tributing. Yeah you would play around cards like Maxx C (but who cares we are the TCG) but lose hard to Droll instead. The big plus would be that you lose les to cards that lock special summoning or cards that only work against special summoned monsters.
I love how Konami occasionally jump scares us with Arcana Force support. The support in question is always underwhelming and so few in number it really doesn’t change anything, but hey, at least it’s there.

Honestly, The Fiend/The Devil was suprisingly solid support, but ,like Rata said, I was fully expecting him to just be the start of a full *wave* of support instead of just being an I.V. drip for the forseeable future.

There's a tendency in recent years to Make a support card for an archetype modeled after the character who used the Deck or a representative element Like with Fortune Lady Past (Dark Signer Carly) or Signal Warrior (Yusei's D-Wheel)

I really appreciate that at this point half of the Ancient Gear monsters are just Ancient Gear Golem but with a new artwork and an extra word added into the name. All the cool military ideas that they could slap in there and Konami is like "Nah now we get to see Golem from the right side on a RED background!
I went against Volcanics at my first ever YCS and if I wasn't someone who had tried building the deck, I probably would've lost. My opponent was really cool and it was very funny seeing my side of the tables playing meta and the other side playing what was considered rogue as to my right, someone on Cubics, to my left, Nemleria 2-0ing Floo. It feels so good to say the words "Volcanic is competitively viable." For the first time in years.

It's funny seeing the cards based on Axel's mom & dad in the same artwork. Though if they were to make another Ancient Gear card referencing something from the anime. I like to imagine the people in charge of what archetype/retrains get made breaking out a shovel at the OG card graveyard (Not the GY) and just tossing it in the air over them (They're very compact graves) and wherever it falls they just start adigging. Every now and then the Reaper of the Cards comes by and they run off, not out of fear, but because he's always begging them for his own archetype.

I also had it down to Melodious beforehand, but now that this theme was in LEDE I can see an adaptation of Luna’s cards including a new AFD or Trickstars which is equally deserving of an encore showing. The year ahead will hopefully see an adaptation of Armatos Legios, though not in this set, and if not I’m sure to be lamenting my entire experience with the card game.

Yeah. But 1500 becomes 750 in Duel Links since all effect damage effects cut the amount done by half now (Which I admit was necessary so Anna could be added since her Ace in the anime was Gustav Max. And a game with 4K life points can't have an XYZ with an effect that would end the duel if it got to successfully go off twice)

You know what’s really sad about Arcana Force? Konami has since made *another* Tarot-based deck in the form of Prophecy/Spellbook. And that one DOES have every single major arcana represented. And Prophecy, if only for Spellbook of Judgement, had much more time to shine than Arcana Force ever did. So it sometimes feels like, do they even care about finishing Arcana Force after Prophecy?
I haven't played in so long that each Yu-Gi-Oh card is just a huge paragraph of random words to me at this point, but Rata's videos are still must-watches, just because he's that charismatic and likeable.

While magic cards effect are easily understandable and "predictable" (you know exactly what a blue-black counter spell is going to do before you read it, you can tell from the mana value and colors) ygo keeps getting worse and worse in its text (and as a game) and all these effects blend together.
Yet they surprisingly haven't made cards that answered the question of "What if Neos & the Neo-Spacians got corrupted when Jaden became the Supreme King?" (One idea I still have is giving Aqua Dolphin design cues taken from an Orca. AKA the KILLER WHALE)

I have seen people pull of Emperor Combos that burned for 4000-5000 lifepoints.. Volcanic is an extremely fun rogue deck to snatch some wins in Regionals and a cool deck to win Locals with :D
Channeling my inner Rata: So AG Dragon just got revealed, and finally gives them some negation, while can’t be special summoned is an easy work around, is searchable with Box, and gives them a good first turn play with Therion Regulus, they still need a better foundation for first turn, but this is better than nothing
The fact the burn per special summon on Volcanic Emperor stacks if you have more of them, meaning if your opponent special summons six times, they lose is also a hysterical concept.
Just be glad they didn't make it look like the Obelisk Force grunts from Arc V. Call it "Ancient Gear Trooper" and gave it a burn effect that mirrors Hunting Hound and ends the turn after being activated.
Honestly, I think I can see why my brother was so excited to try the new support for Ancient Gears and Volcanics now that I've seen them. This entire video was a series of "Holy fuck, they actually printed this!?" just over and over again. It's... beautiful. Magnificent even.
Yeah Turn 1 Ancient Gears relies entirely on setting up some Synchros with Anchor Drill, getting Regulus or doing some XYZ/Link stuff and even then it falls apart.
Volcanic support was awesome, hope that they keep supporting the archetype once in a while now that the deck has solid foundation, instead of forgetting about it for another 8 years
I am amazed at how good the Volcanic stuff is. The old burny boys were always close to being good but they always just missed it. And now here they are, they made it.
An Arcana Force monster could have a level 4 with a 3000 atk/def body, omni negate upon flipping heads, a free field wipe of the opponent’s board on either turn as a tails with majespector protection and they still wouldn’t be playable as an archetype

Very minor note about Volcanic Blaze Accelerator: You have to send the original BA to activate it. Still a non-factor since it provjdes food for Rimfire's effect to slap a Reload on the field, but worth noting.
1:03 idk why I see the card art this way, but from my phone screen at least, Rimfire's card looks like it has it's legs fused together with one of it's feet sticking out from the knee
I'm baffled by one particular line on Commander: he could've let you send Golem from your face-up field, but instead you can send Golem from your face-up Monster Zone specifically? As opposed to your face-up backrow? What exactly is this meant to prevent, Instant Fusioning Thousand-Eyes to suck up a Golem that your opponent Snatch Stole?
At this point, they just print Arcana Force cards to say " Hey, remember this piece of shit archetype? Me too, and it's staying that way. This crap is unsalvageable!". I respect the raw, no fucks given energy they have for this group of cards.
Konami might have finally remembered that Pyro exists but they still haven't fully registered that they don't need to attach types and attributes at the hip even if they're elemental-focused (or rather, making some types exclusively elemental-focused was just a bad decision). The setting restriction remaining on Ancient Gear cards is extra funny when you consider Konami is fine with Triple Tactics Thrust being an entirely generic search for any Spell. People are expecting the LIGHT pack will likely include Arcana Force so there's that.
I look at Volcanic Trooper and wonder how other archetypes would do with some searching like that. Like SPYRALs.... How would SPYGAL feel, being left out of the club?

For once, "rimfire" isn't just Konami word salad. It an ignition type for firearms cartridges that's simultaneously obsolete *and* the most common. It's only used for the incredibly common .22 LR (and a few related cartridges) now because they're too small to support the centerfire system that otherwise obsoleted it a century and a half ago.
Well, I think we can safely say the volcanic support is lit. On an unrelated note - if you're still picking up new archetype archives, have you considered monarchs? I was just playing them the other day and thought about the unorthodox levels/release order and surprisingly wide backrow list. Thought it would be fun to go through in your usual style.

The fact the new Arcana Force monster is literally called "The Fiend" and is a Fairy instead of a Fiend says all anyone needs to know about Arcana Force's viability as a deck.
It's based on the devil arcana and the Arcana forces are collectively fairies. (angel in the OCG) And you just need to look at darklords (or the appropriate religion) to know that a devil can easily be a fairy.
I can't wait for him to talk about the new Yubel support. I've been spending some time testing the deck on Project Ignus and I've got to say it's surprisingly consistent, able to play through cards like Ash and impermanence pretty effectively.

I really appreciate that at this point half of the Ancient Gear monsters are just Ancient Gear Golem but with a new artwork and an extra word added into the name. All the cool military ideas that they could slap in there and Konami is like "Nah now we get to see Golem from the right side on a RED background!

I went against Volcanics at my first ever YCS and if I wasn't someone who had tried building the deck, I probably would've lost. My opponent was really cool and it was very funny seeing my side of the tables playing meta and the other side playing what was considered rogue as to my right, someone on Cubics, to my left, Nemleria 2-0ing Floo. It feels so good to say the words "Volcanic is competitively viable." For the first time in years.

I love how all the ancient Gear golem art has just been leading up to punching flare scarab in the face (and utterly vaporizing them)
It's funny seeing the cards based on Axel's mom & dad in the same artwork. Though if they were to make another Ancient Gear card referencing something from the anime. I wouldn't mind seeing a card showing Ancient Gear Golem pummeling Toy Emperor to reference the man who wears his Napoleon references on his sleeve Jean Louise Bonaparte (AKA the guy who left after season 3 to spend time with his son Marcel. Which is a more dignified exit than Bastian's)
I like to imagine the people in charge of what archetype/retrains get made breaking out a shovel at the OG card graveyard (Not the GY) and just tossing it in the air over them (They're very compact graves) and wherever it falls they just start adigging. Every now and then the Reaper of the Cards comes by and they run off, not out of fear, but because he's always begging them for his own archetype.
I cannot wait for this year to fill in the gaps with Arcana Force.

I also had it down to Melodious beforehand, but now that this theme was in LEDE I can see an adaptation of Luna’s cards including a new AFD or Trickstars which is equally deserving of an encore showing. The year ahead will hopefully see an adaptation of Armatos Legios, though not in this set, and if not I’m sure to be lamenting my entire experience with the card game.

Yup! And that’s why I love Heavy Borger in Vanquish Soul. Burn for 1500, then do that again as soon as the turn passes to opponent.
Yeah. But 1500 becomes 750 in Duel Links since all effect damage effects cut the amount done by half now (Which I admit was necessary so Anna could be added since her Ace in the anime was Gustav Max. And a game with 4K life points can't have an XYZ with an effect that would end the duel if it got to successfully go off twice)

You know what’s really sad about Arcana Force?
Konami has since made *another* Tarot-based deck in the form of Prophecy/Spellbook. And that one DOES have every single major arcana represented. And Prophecy, if only for Spellbook of Judgement, had much more time to shine than Arcana Force ever did.
So it sometimes feels like, do they even care about finishing Arcana Force after Prophecy?

While magic cards effect are easily understandable and "predictable" (you know exactly what a blue-black counter spell is going to do before you read it, you can tell from the mana value and colors) ygo keeps getting worse and worse in its text (and as a game) and all these effects blend together.

I have seen people pull of Emperor Combos that burned for 4000-5000 lifepoints.. Volcanic is an extremely fun rogue deck to snatch some wins in Regionals and a cool deck to win Locals with :D
Channeling my inner Rata: So AG Dragon just got revealed, and finally gives them some negation, while can’t be special summoned is an easy work around, is searchable with Box, and gives them a good first turn play with Therion Regulus, they still need a better foundation for first turn, but this is better than nothing
I always loved that Grass + Volcanic boss was the FTK that took less steps in the entire history of the game.
Funny how Grass is banned and that I KNOW Bonfire is eventually going to be Limited.

Yeah Turn 1 Ancient Gears relies entirely on setting up some Synchros with Anchor Drill, getting Regulus or doing some XYZ/Link stuff and even then it falls apart.
Volcanic support was awesome, hope that they keep supporting the archetype once in a while now that the deck has solid foundation, instead of forgetting about it for another 8 years
I am amazed at how good the Volcanic stuff is. The old burny boys were always close to being good but they always just missed it. And now here they are, they made it.
An Arcana Force monster could have a level 4 with a 3000 atk/def body, omni negate upon flipping heads, a free field wipe of the opponent’s board on either turn as a tails with majespector protection and they still wouldn’t be playable as an archetype
Everyone would take that arcana force monster and play it in decks that aren’t arcana force lol

Very minor note about Volcanic Blaze Accelerator: You have to send the original BA to activate it. Still a non-factor since it provjdes food for Rimfire's effect to slap a Reload on the field, but worth noting.

As opposed to your face-up backrow? What exactly is this meant to prevent, Instant Fusioning Thousand-Eyes to suck up a Golem that your opponent Snatch Stole?

Konami might have finally remembered that Pyro exists but they still haven't fully registered that they don't need to attach types and attributes at the hip even if they're elemental-focused (or rather, making some types exclusively elemental-focused was just a bad decision).
The setting restriction remaining on Ancient Gear cards is extra funny when you consider Konami is fine with Triple Tactics Thrust being an entirely generic search for any Spell.
People are expecting the LIGHT pack will likely include Arcana Force so there's that.
Volcanics are the only FIRE Pyro archetype in the game.

Arcana Force The Fiend really doesn't change anything. Even stuffing this "2023 card" in a Goat Format duel, the deck still performs miserably.

Suggestion: Print the full text of the card next to it (like you do for the regular archive videos) so they are easier to read.
For once, "rimfire" isn't just Konami word salad. It an ignition type for firearms cartridges that's simultaneously obsolete *and* the most common. It's only used for the incredibly common .22 LR (and a few related cartridges) now because they're too small to support the centerfire system that otherwise obsoleted it a century and a half ago.

Konami once again about to release support for an archetype 5 minutes after Rata brought it back to the collective consciousness (Arcana Force in Duelists of Brilliance)
The fact the new Arcana Force monster is literally called "The Fiend" and is a Fairy instead of a Fiend says all anyone needs to know about Arcana Force's viability as a deck.
It's based on the devil arcana and the Arcana forces are collectively fairies. (angel in the OCG) And you just need to look at darklords (or the appropriate religion) to know that a devil can easily be a fairy.

I can't wait for him to talk about the new Yubel support. I've been spending some time testing the deck on Project Ignus and I've got to say it's surprisingly consistent, able to play through cards like Ash and impermanence pretty effectively.
