I think the left painting shows movement in the water. I like the size of the left painting, and the colors and values. 😊

The difference in the two white paints is something we might not see in a studio setting, yet becomes obvious when you use them plein aire. Very valuable lesson. Thanks, Michael.

Your critiques are so helpful. Small panel = detailed image. That said, I like both very much.

Thank you for the insight as to how the size of the panel suggest the POV of the content important and I had never really thought about it. Thank you for sharing your experience with us 🙏

Great info…closer up view on a smaller panel and vice-versa.
(Love the blues & greens in the breaking waves of the larger panel.). Thank you for sharing.😊

I like to see your larger panels . I agree with you on the first try . Good one Michael!

The second painting is fantastic. For me, the problem with first was that the water and rock forms took up equal space on the canvas.

Hi Micheal You are right in your comment about the small and large panels. Yes, zoom in on the smaller pannal and zoom out on the larger pannal. I was also thinking about still life. I have seen still life on a small panal. Just one object, say an apple, looks good. As someone paints five apples, it just looks so cluttered and untidy busy, but paint the five apples on a large canvus and it can work. I agree with your comments that this one just did not work for you, but how fantastic, as it has shown you something that will help push you forward in your work. A really good, honest observation on your part that has uncovered a very interesting principle Thank you for sharing that God bless

Fantastic painting. May I ask Michael, are there any videos coming that are akin to your older vlog style? I have been binge watching them all lately and just love them!

Been enjoying checking out your vids Mike, thank you! Lovely colours in this study and the freedom of strokes makes it a very nice piece. What a place to paint!

The left one has definetly more atmosphere but I think the one to the right could still be safed...maybe more contrast on the rocks in the foreground?

I’m still surfing 4-5 times a week. I haven’t filmed in a while though. Maybe I’ll include a clip now and then.
