Toyota rear seat reminder or Why does my car beep at me when I lock it?

- Ever wonder why your car rapidly beeps 8 times at you when you walk away or why you get notifications on your app to check the back seat? Its because you opened the rear door at some point and the car doesn't know why and wants to make sure you didn't forget something important.

Thank God YES!
I really appreciate you! I often carry supplies for work in my vehicle so I’ve been hearing this often. Simple fix.
Thanks, I did not realize when I received this alert what I needed to do. Thanks for the great video, much appreciated!
Thanks for explaining this, in a 2023 rental that does this and I was confused. I also love how it polices me from reversing the car with the door open to back it up 2 feet /s
Great video, I just bout a 2024 Tacoma TRD sport and was wondering about the back seat and the extra beeps. Makes sense now. Keep more videos coming
Thanks for the video - By the way in Europe versions of Toyota this feature cannot be disabled (the option is missing in the setting at least in Toyota Prius 23), but at least now I know that if I don't use the rear door it will not annoy me, so I am ok with that 🙂
THANK YOU FOR THIS the extra beeps were driving me insane
Hey bud. Appreciate you taking the time to explain that. Thanks again. Btw killer jacket. Have a great day.
Thank you for the very informative explanation! You are a life saver!
Thank you for explaining. It was extremely frustrating. The car would not start. We had to take our old truck to work cuz we didn't know how to fix the problem.
Thanks Steve. I have a ‘23 Corolla Hatchback SE that does the same thing when I open the hatchback. The eight beeps. Also if I put anything in the hatchback area, I get a picture of the rear seat in red that says Check Rear.
Thanks Steve you always bring good videos it’s really helpful
Wonderful video. Thank you for explaining this clearly. I'm just flabergasted at the fact that these "features" are set to default as "on". I'm not going to ask why, but I wish Toyota would rethink its concept of convenient features and let the customer decide which ones he or she wants to turn on rather than forcing the customer to have to search for how to turn off something that we never asked for in the first place.
@@randallcotten5069 this is a feature that a large group of manufacturers agreed to voluntarily adopt in hopes of staving off a federal mandate. The federal government has been making noises about mandating this for a while and the voluntary efforts have worked so far.
Nice explication i learn why he was doing that much of beep when im locking the door i disable it for sure because now i donc have anything on the seats are well clip and seat belt are ok.
Merci Steve je vais tenter sur ma Yaris 2024 en espérant que je puisse le désactiver !
Today my wife and I drove the new Toyota from the dealership. I was not happy when I saw "check the rear seat". 😅
Thank you!
Thank you for telling us about all those beeps when you lock it. I asked my salesman and he didn’t know!
What about when you crank your 2024 Land Cruiser and the red rear seatbelt reminder is illuminated but No one is in the back seat?
All these beeps in this new Tacoma is driving me fucking insane
My truck beeping every time I lock it is literally driving me nuts.
I think it's a great feature, but I think it needs to be tweaked. I have no kids, never put anything in the backseat, except the snow brush, on the floor. It should be tied to some kind of weight being in the back seat instead of the door. I go to the car, start it, then get out to brush off the snow and put the brush back when done.
My question about this is: After it beeps at me, is my car still looked or do I need to lock it again?
It’s locked. And you can disable it in the settings as I describe
Hi Steve, many thanks for your "so clear" videos. I have a question about this one ; my new 2024 C-HR does not have this "rear seat reminder" on/off toggle in my vehicle settings : is this normal ? for this particular Toyota model or should I expect a coming... software update ? With thanks.
I have the same issue just picked up my new Yaris cross 2024 and also doesn’t have the option to turn off/on
@@shanechilvers5946 We don't have either the CHR or the Yaris Cross in the US so it is hard for me to comment on either of these. My videos show what we have in the US and that often translates into other Toyota models but not always. I do appreciate you watching and commenting and I'll help where I can.
Will it keep doing this indefinitely, if I don't turn this off? Or will simply opening and closing the rear door once do the trick?
It beeps several times and then stops. It is just to get your attention in case there is a child still in the car
I have rav4 2013 and it make really loud 5 beeps very often after door lock. How do I turn it off, thanks
Hello i have rear seat reminder off, yet im still getting the reminder. Toyota yaris cross
@@samanph44 I can only speak about US spec vehicles. I suspect European rules prevent disabling things like this
This is great Steve. But Do you know why my 23 Highlander Hybrid makes a buzzing sound like a fan running when i haven't driven for a day or 2. It usually happens on real warm days. Thanks
Hybrids do all kinds of diagnostic things when we’re not looking. If you’re concerned, ask your service advisor the next time too have it in for an oil change
... will do---thanks
When the alarm always goes off it just trains you to ignore it. Thanks for the hassle Toyota!
@trainersteve can you recommend any RUclipsr who does lexus content like you do Toyota's ?
Hi Steve, I have just picked up a new Yaris cross but the alert says check all seats? Also there is no option under the settings to turn off any ideas? Thanks.
We don't have that model in the US so I can't say for sure. Should be similar to the settings shown here but I can't say for sure.
Steve got question: I have a 24 Toyota Venza why does Toyota only give you 2years warranty on the 12 Volt lead acid battery that in the trunk? How long will that battery last before I have to get a new one?
The 12 volt battery is covered under the 3/36 warranty. They generally outlast the warranty by a good bit
Congrats with your purchase - I got same thing at about same time.
I have a question to you - do you feel the moment when the engine gets on and off? I do and it is strange because my previous RAV4 Hybrid drove smoothly so I did not feel that moment.
Hi Steve, how do I know if my Hylander Hybrid has Wi-Fi?
It does. They all do since 2020. Turn it on via your app. Then pay AT&T for the data plan
Hi steve , i dont have kids i didnt find it in option to turn it off on chr 2024 in settings? Do u have any other idea where i can off this option?
It wasn’t in the settings as shown in this video? 3:20 in this video shows how to find this setting
I have same display meter in chr 2024, but in this setting i have all other same option but not to off that rear seat reminder, i think they have changed this option some where else on 2024 models, a friend told me its might be in option vehicule customise and then go in utility on other screen but i havent found it there, still searching 😊
@@ghanikhan6594 a 2024 CHR? You’re not in the US. I can only comment on US spec vehicles. I know Europe has different safety requirements and they might not allow this feature to be turned off
Yes its chr 2024, 2nd generation launched in europe, actually the option to off this reminded is same in 2023 model but in 2024 they have changed some where else , i m still trying to find that option, its annoying , thx steve
I have the same problem . Yaris hybrid 2024 owner
Is it possible to turn off the seatbelt reminder alarm?
No, but the one in the rear stops after 45 seconds. The one in the front stays until it is buckled.
Thanks = you are perhaps not a driver of young children. The backseat reminder is telling you NOT to leave your kids - or dog - in the car on a hot day, not even for a moment. In my country we recently had a child die in a hot car - terrifying. Good on Toyota.
You should not be allowed to turn this off. Instead of beeping 8 times it should tell you Hey Stupid you left your child in the back seat.
Do you really think that all Toyota buyers have kids? I do NOT and I use the rear door almost every time I drive my car and I do not need that beeping shit.
Thank you!
Thank you!
