You are just like mumbo jumbo that is how awesome you are and that you made the display really small and expandable best video. subscribed and hit the little bell beside the subscribe button and liked the video.
The top sticky piston with the cauldron is unnecessary the way I have it build but great design! I could not figure out how to make one that displays all the numbers correctly, so this was helpful and very compact. I wish I figured it out myself cause I was ALMOST there lol
oh my god! he actually figured out a pattern to use with piston tapes! thats nuts! i threw that idea out immediately because it thought it would be practically impossible! how did you come up with the sequence? was it just trial and error or did you have a method?
Oh god it's been 7 years my brain can't even comprehend it anymore haha, but I can try to explain the core contepts that made it possible: Exclusive selection (made up term I just came up with), allows you to send a block through the feed tape that only activates 1 of the comparators and not the other, so that it doesn't interfere. The solid blocks are used like this as they allow the comparator to read through it to the stationary double strength cauldron behind it. Having two lines of redstone coming out of it means that a cauldron with a strength of 1 can pass right by it, but a block means it reads the strength 2 cauldron which activates the section. For the middle feed it allows you to confidently place glass (activates nothing), blocks (activates only the middle) and strength 1 cauldrons (activates only the bottom), and once you've figured those ones out you can replace the rest with strength 2 cauldrons (activates both bottom and middle). A strength of 3 acts the same as 2 however allows you to track the full cycle, sending a pulse to a connected circuit However on the right and left it's a little more complicated as a strength of 3 is used to activate the top right/left segment, and the top segment simultaneously, no matter which side. Other than that it's the same as the middle, using glass for nothing, blocks and power 1 for exclusive selection, and power 2 for top and bottom sides (3 for top too) In terms of actually working it out in the first place, just abstracting it helped the most. Knowing that the top can never be active without one of the sides also being active meant you can seperate it from the middle tape, and then with only two sections being managed by the middle tape you can simplify that as much as possible, and from there you start with the glass and figure the rest out slowly. It's time intensive but possible!
@@MineThingoh whoa, id never noticed the top is only lit with sides, what an insight! that alone i think makes a lot of the design click in my head, like what the signal strength 3 cauldrons are doing. using a base higher than binary was also something i hadn't thought of. what a great way to condense it. i wonder if that could be taken further, take full advantage of the 16 different strengths to make a hex display. think ill go tinker with that. incredible work again! what a piece of engineering!
I have a question. I just saw your compact elevator design that was inspired by serpent dagger. Would it be possible to create a device that would tell you what floor the elevator is on? Really nice video by the way. You should have more subscribers
Lawrence Goldfeld thank you! if you added a cauldron to the bottom of the elevator and filled it with water you would be able to get a comparator output so that you could hook it up to some sort of lamp so show you what floor it is on. I hope this answers your question and thank you for the support! 😃
Works great, nothing to add Ah yes, for the redstone illiterates, if you want to space the counters by more than 1 block, you go at 5:21 and add a block following the one he just placed, and on top of it a comparator facing the same direction as the other one, making a comparator chain. Repeat as long as you want, it is infinite (but will delay a bit the transmition from one to another module)
@@g0ldER The entire caldron disappears?? that's actually amazing I never thought that could be an issue haha, are you playing on Java edition? Any mods? I've never seen that issue before

I much rather prefer the bigger more straight forward design where it’s just some forth towers in the back for all 10 numbers and each tower has either redstone telling it witch segment to turn on, or a redstone repeater to stop the line from being interfered with by the torch tower
It's very interesting how this one works, compressing the data down into a single tape and re-using the same data for multiple numbers. It kind of makes sense in the aspect that the numbers are being displayed out of only 8 segments, and there are re-occuring patterns between numbers, but working out the exact combination is extremely time consuming. unfortunately due to the feed-tape design it's not super easy to just "reset" it, you'd have to make it go through the full cycle to get back to the initial state. This is possible to do through redstone however it would require quite a bit of logic depending on your counting system, and it's not something I can easily guide you through. Sorry for the inconvenience! I wish I had put this in the video from the start as a few others have asked the same. Best of luck!
