  • Hi, guys. Long time no see. I am back with another reaction video, of course. This time I will be listening to Ren with Hi ren. Never heard of this person before. I think you will be a bit disappointed since there is not much reaction from me. Remember.. I am a "cold" person. Anyway, at least I hope you will enjoy the music. It was interesting. Have to read about this.

Have you just come from a wedding? It is not every day that I see someone dressed like that for a reaction. Okay, you deserve a few compliments: Great sound quality. You will be amazed how many reactors can't do that. You didn't waste time with subtitles. Wise decision. You did not talk over or interrupt. Thank you for that. You didn't say much at the end but I could not miss the fact that I could see you were listening intently. Since February I have listened non stop to Ren. I occasionally listen to other artists but no one reaches the levels of genius Ren displays. Please react to The Tale Of Jenny And Screech (full). If you react to Ren consistently you will get many subscriptions. We Renegades are fanatical. Thank you for this reaction.

Ow yeah, I was very concentrated. I am one of those who hate it when people disturb during... movies, songs, lectures, and such. I have to be able to pay attention. And no, no wedding. ;P I think it is kind of showing a little bit of respect to you guys for taking the time to watch my video. :)

Totally agree, it's tiresome to see music reactions where the reactor pauses it ten times because they are more anxious to hear themselves speak than to listen to the music. I'd rather see someone who appreciates the music or performance enough to allow themselves to be captivated by it.
Great reaction... my only suggestion is the music audio could use a wee bit more volume. 🐱

Teenage music prodigy writes a little ditty.
    Teenagers inner critic pops in.
Teenager fights his inner critic and tries to crush it.
Inner critic turns into an inner demon.
Inner demon ushers in a decade of battle with psychosis and physical trauma.
A young man emerges from the experience with a new inner wisdom.
Newly liberated young man continues to develop the little ditty he wrote as a teen prodigy. Bring in a new level of complexity and depth, light and dark side to the tune. A much more mature piece of music.
A wise man shares his experience with the world to help others through their hard times.

Ren, just today, was named songwriter of the year by Micannes in the UK! An honor truly fitting for this absolute legend of a man. He’s the real deal. I’ve been following his journey since March of this year. Probably have seen reactions to Hi Ren 3 or 400 times, maybe more? There’s almost one new one a day, if not more. I try and catch them all. This song still resonates deeply with me all this time later. He’s a force to be reckoned with. My favorite artist at the moment. Ren has introduced me to other musicians and music as well. Ren surrounds himself with talented artists that all deserve their own deep dive. Chinchilla, Sam Tompkins, Romain Axisa, Eden Nash, and many others as well. Subbed for more Ren.

Ren got Lyme disease in his teens, but it was undiscovered and misdiagnosed for several years. This brought along mental illness. He’s now being treated, but still has a long way to go.
This song is quite different from his other songs, for example Murderer. , or Jenny and Screech. There are also some cool performances of him and his band The Big Push, busking on the street.

Interesting that you released this on its 1 year anniversary. It went viral, leading a horde of new fans to his catalog, to reaction channels. We spent the year waiting in anticipation for each release leading up to an album in October, that went #1 in the U.K. despite no touring or other traditional promotional methods because Ren has spent most of the 2023 in Canada being treated for the long term damages of the years of undiagnosed Lyme disease.
The RENagade fanbase is huge and devoted. We love to watch people be overwhelmed by watching him, alone or with his friends, Sam Tompkins (they went viral with ‘blind eyed’ 5 years ago, soon after REN’s stem cell treatment allowed him to get back into the world), Chinchilla, Eden Nash, Liv Sangster, Viktus and his bands Trick the Fox (which whom he was signed with Sony before he got ill) and The Big Push ;which had to break up in order for him to go to Canada)
I understand tge need to watch this again and again. Do look up earlier reactions too.

Ren is a generational talent. A Bard and a Poet who is genre bending. He's so riddiculously talanted in so many ways (multiple instruments, conducting, producing, video design, writing and lyrics, acting...and more). He's a genuine person, down to earth and humble. He spends time with his fans and interacts with us on a human level - not a "celebrity talking to fans" kinda way. He preaches love, acceptance and giving, working together and over coming obstacles. He's not just a great entertainer, he's an amazing PERSON. He's been a light in the life of many, and the voice for those of us with chronic illness (many of his songs revolve around his struggle. Yes, his real name is Ren.. Ren Gill. He's 33, he is Welsh and born in Wales and lived/busked/got his musical start in Brighton. He was signed to a record label back in the day, and lost it due to his illness. He is independant now and does EVERYTHING on his own and with a team he has built that are all his personal friends. Ren is amazing and I cannot gush about him enough. 💖

Ren is brilliant! This song came out a year ago. In the lat year Ren has become better known, despite being an independent artist, created an amazing nonjudgmental community, impacted the music industry, put out a hip hop album that went to #1 in UK, released incredible masterpiece videos, like Money Game #3, all while undergoing treatment in Canada for his auto immune issues and damage to his body and brain from undiagnosed Lyme disease. He did not tour but rather promoted all he did on social media, connecting with his fans on a very personal level. He also promoted his band, The Big Push, with his very talented band mates.
Ren can do any genre and writes original music in a multiple of genres and also gives his personal style and artistic flare to well known covers.
He also has helped promote other alented independent artists and has done many collaborations.
He is impacting the music industry and the world. He appeals to fans from teens to 70+.
He has a massive catalog of incredible music.
Ren is a once in a generation artist.

Your reaction is completely understandable. Mostly everyone who will comment to you has watched and listened to this song maany times. It can be alot to take in after only one viewing. But the basic theme that i always took from this song is this: angels are all good, all light. They dont have to wrestle with the darkness. For demons it is the opposite, they are all negative, all bad, all darkness. Those entitys arent burdened with the struggle that comes when you are being pulled in two different directions. Human beings are not all good, or all bad. We are a mixture of the two. In our lives we go throiugh things that excentuate one or the other. For ren it was his illness. The first part of him that eas defeated was his hope. When he realized that darkness was starting to outgrow the light he felt that it was a battle. He imagined himself a good person and so it was unnatural for him to be feeling so much negativity. He imagined that he was in a battle eith darkness and that it was his duty to defeat the darkness and rid himself of it. But as time went on he realized that he could not defeat the darkness because the darkness was apart of him. It was as muuch apart of him as the light. And so he realized that he needed to accept the dark parts of his pysche and dance with it. Once he acceoted this things got much easier. So when we are going throghh tough times in life and we start to lose hope, feel doubt , feel anger, jealousy, bitterness, regret ect. We shouldnt hate ourselves and think their is somtjing wrong with us for feeling this way. And we also shouldn't imagine that its our duty to rid ourselves of it. We should just realize that we are human and forgive ourselves and allow ourselves to not be perfect

Although he references his health, mental AND physical and he really has suffered horrendously, the song is about the human condition generally. How we battle with ourselves and the light and dark in the World around us. It's about accepting that the dark can't be banished, any more than the light. Both are constants in the World, in our lives and within ourselves. Both create who we are. In fact, having to deal with dark things in our lives, although terrible at the time, will frequently offer more long term benefits than going through good times. An unpalatable truth but a truth nevertheless. Once we accept this simple fact, that darkness can't be banished, it's part of life and something we have to learn to live with, then life becomes a little bit easier

  • @kennethmichael5404

This is the kind of artistry that gives "broken" people hope. Ren, through this performance piece, has become to a lot of people exactly what he stated in the song, "...the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope". So powerful, so impactful. Even the song structure itself is incredible. It starts off as a battle between his positive (Angel) and negative (Demon) aspects, the negative then makes an overpowering last ditch effort to reign supreme, tearing free and trying to take control, but ultimately fails as the final act, being the "God" aspect, emerges Triumphant, though still acknowledging and accepting that it will ALWAYS be a battle because we are all "a coin with 2 different sides". It's a beautifully cathartic and raw musical masterpiece. Ren is truly special. Welcome to the Ren rabbit-hole, it's a trip worth taking. This was the 4th take he did and yes, it was done live. Wait until you hear some of his other stuff, especially his storytelling ("The Tale of Jenny & Screech"). You haven't even touched the breadth of this young man's talent yet.
The pig character (imo) represents the doctors and therapist who have essentially butchered him for years through their misdiagnosis. It's the system that focuses on peddling more pills than on genuinely trying to help to fix broken/ill people, caring more about profit than individual health. The bastardization of the hippocratic oath. He literally thought he was going insane because he was told repeatedly that the pain and symptoms he was experiencing were all in his head (psychosomatic). He had reached a point where he literally resigned himself to dying before he reached 30. Turns out he had Lyme's disease the whole time and it ran rampant through his system for 10 years, even to the point of causing brain damage. Ironically, if Ren hadn't gone through what he has, would he have ever made the art he has? There's no question that his suffering has shaped his music and now he's finally getting the recognition he undoubtedly deserves. I've said it before, I'll say it again, Ren is special.

I have so much respect for people who are ready to say "i need to learn more about this, before i give my reaction" i am very fond of that mindset. I recommend his interview on his RUclips channel, to hear him explain himself all of the history he's been through, to reach this point. Xx

What I love about new Ren reactions is the 20, 30 second pause all the Reactors have at the end of the performance. You can literally see the thoughts flowing in their brain. Ren makes you think, makes you reflect and makes you question your own self beliefs. This is what's different about Ren.❤ from D in the UK 🇬🇧 a certified Renagade ❤

Nice reaction, and welcome to the world of Ren. Just discovered him myself a few months ago, and his music still fascinates me. Check out the other videos he has out, including those where he cooperates with others. He has a wide spectre of styles, and is an amazing musician. If you want to dive deep into his lyrics, I highly recommend looking up the reactions from Knox Hill - he is the quite the opposite of you and interrupt almost every sentence to explain something. 🤣 And don't get me wrong, I like both your and his approach - and I leave you a +1 on the sub. 👍

THE TALE OF JENNY & SCREECH (FULL)
    by Ren
make sure it has the (FULL) after the title and is around 13 minutes in length. this is important to get the order correct.
you may want to loosen the tie......🤭😁🤭
love the fact that there were no pauses, you watched the whole way through. I feel that is sooooooo important. if you pause with this video you are not hit as hard in the feelers the first cherry picking. thank you for experiencing hi ren as it should be.....whole!
Ren is opening a window for us to visualize what is going on in the brain with the light and dark halves of our ego. wanting to to show people that it is best to reconcile with your dark side to be whole, so life isn't such a difficult struggle all the time.
kinda gets you in the feelers doesn't he?! then on top of that he awakens a long dormant part of your brain that has been starving for intelligence, substance, raw vulnerability and authenticity in music
Ren is the Shakespeare of our time. he has already made history a few months ago,in Oct, he is independent...if people were quick, they should have started making a documentary cataloguing this past year of Ren. the last 368 days are a roadmap for independent artists on how to get to #1 with a handful of talented and loyal friends....it should be called the rising tide lifts all ships the world of Ren.
as another commenter stated, the RENegades will come and lift your ship.
    Do ALL of Rens music.
please start with the (FULL) version of the tale of jenny & screech.
after that, dive deep, head first, 1000% all in ....into Rens music. he is new to the world so it doesn't have to be the last album he released, START ANYWHERE, just go with whatever song title intrigues you....Ren does not have a bad song in him.
    just jump, it's worth it.
    welcome new RENegade!

Although the ending addresses Ren's illness, and it is touched upon throughout the song, the song itself is more about the eternal struggle felt by artists and for that matter, all humans. The old ego v's id battle.
If you want to learn more, I am sure we would like to share the journey with you. To get a gauge on a bit of Ren's philosophy, I would recommend you listen to his 1 million subscriber- defining success video. He has also done some great interviews with other reactors.

I will do my best to give background about Ren. Ren was bitten by a tick and contracted Lyme Disease. He was misdiagnosed as having Bipolar. The meds sent him into psychosis while the Lyme disease ran rampant in his system untreated for 8 yrs. He is classically trained. I am sure you could tell or at least you will, the more you listen to his catalog. The song is talking about topics people usually do not want to talk about. The song was about fighting your inner demons and how hard sometimes it is to shut out the doubt. He was signed with sony at 19 but was too sick to tour so they dropped him. He now makes music for himself, mixing his own beats, and lyrics as his own therapy. He cannot be pigeon-holed to just one genre he can do it all and very well. Hope this brief synopsis helps.

Disturbed did a great cover of Sound of Silence, but I prefer Henk Poort’s version, especially when you know he’s an opera/musical singer, who never (was even advised against it) disturbed his voice like that before.
My tips would be Tim Minchin (Prejudice), Bo Burnham (Welcome to the Internet), Norwegian singer Aurora (Runaway), Belgian artist Stromae (Formidable), French artist Pomme (les Oiseaux, live), and Mexican band The Warning (with Canadian singer Alessia Cara) singing Enter Sandman.
