70 years old... retired 3 years ago... discovered RUclips and watched 'Acorn to Arabella' weekly as a young man built a wooden boat (cutting down trees and using his grandfathers hand tools).. Somehow found Ren last January and my world has not been the same since, now my morning start with coffee on the patio and a quick listen to 'Bongo Bong' as it makes me smile and tap my toes.... a great way to start the day.
Hopefully there is not an age limit to enjoy this great artist...
Thank you for sharing Mary.. you told the Ren story so well.

Our body has many mechanisms to remove toxins, germs, or parasites through the immunine system, obviously right? Okay, this is not the interesting part, I have found that as much as you avoid putting damaging things inside your body the ability of your body to heal will become greater, I have only my own experience about this, but I was able to remove all the medicines they were giving me for some chronic illnesses related to digestion, and heart, now I am free of symptoms and drugs no more pills for me, doing drastic changes in your diet and way of life is mostly what can help but all those around you will or could alienate you, for example I stopped drinking alcohol 9 months ago, I haven't seen my party friends that often now.

I remember saying 6 months ago - he's breaking the music industry model. His use of the YT 'reaction scene' and allowing people to monetize his videos provided a magnificent path for growth and viewership. In some ways, this is marketing genius - without a label this is what provided the foundation for putting out an album that had the chance of going to the #1 spot in the UK. It worked.

I have never been a fanboy. I make music and have always had artists and producers I admired and I constantly consume vast amounts of new and new to me music. But Ren is the first artist I have ever felt like this about. And I'm in my 50's. I imagine it's a comparable feeling to people that first heard The Beatles or Dylan etc. Ren is a true impresario in every sense and I've been slightly obsessed since I first heard Hi Ren some 11 months ago. Lyme disease is named after Lyme, Connecticut (here in the States), where it was first diagnosed as its own condition (rather than a separate syndrome of similar, acute or chronic signs & symptoms). Upwards of 50% of deer ticks in New England may carry Lyme-inducing bacteria, and it is highly suspected that other hematophages, such as mosquitoes and certain types of flies, can also transmit Lyme.
It is woefully misdiagnosed, even in the US northeast where it is becoming increasingly rampant. Army doctors misdiagnosed my cousin for nearly 3 years, and both of my parents for over 2 years, before finally getting them necessary treatment.

Most of Ren's biggest fans are much older than me, usually in like their 30s at least, but I have been listening to Ren since I was around 15. This month I turned 17. I've been a huge fan of Ren for a while now and whilst I understand some people lacking interest in his music or style, he would always be a favorite of mine. Ren has convinced me to keep pushing, never give up, never let my own issues hold me back, and most drastically, he's kept my mental health in check during times of depressive thoughts, doubt, and suicidal mindsets. I owe so much to Ren and I want only the best for him, and seeing him get treatment today and rising to the top of the UK's charts when I just knew him as a small unfortunate indie musician makes me feel so proud.

I've had Fibromyalgia for 30 years and CPTSD for around 45 years. If there is one point (out of many extraordinarily valid and insightful ones) that Ren makes I would say his observations on acceptance is an incredibly important element for living with chronic illness.

      @meghangerhart643 4 месяца назад +2

I also have fibromyalgia, as well as chronic pain, chronic migraine disease, and a host of mental illnesses including trauma and PTSD from, as Ren put it “Years of my body torturing itself”. I was likely born with a deregulated, hypersensitive, and hyperactive nervous system but, because it was my “normal”, I didn’t understand that certain sensations were weird or heightened. I also didn’t understand why I couldn’t seem to function like “normal” kids. I was diagnosed with my mental illnesses long before my chronic ones (though I’ve also always had problems with acute illnesses as well, which baffled my doctors and everyone around me). Ren is one of the first people, particularly young people (he’s 33, I’m 35) to talk about living with a chronic illness, especially from a young age. Like you said, something I had to learn and it’s only really been something I’ve been learning in my 30s, is acceptance. If you wait to “feel better” before you live your life the best you can, you’ll be waiting forever. Acceptance that this IS your life is so incredibly hard and there’s a lot of grief that comes with that acceptance but it’s one of the most important things you can do. I’m so grateful that people with chronic illnesses like us have an incredible artist and a seemingly compassionate and good person to inspire, to represent, to uplift, to relate to, to say the things that need to be said, to bring awareness, and to give hope. He’s a gift and I hope he knows that. By the way, wishing you as much stability, balance, care, and relief with your illnesses. ❤❤❤

What a lovely video Mary ! You perfectly created a portrait of a once in a generation Artist and inspiration for so many people.
I suffer from severe Depression and immense Loneliness for decades, lost the ability to feel any joy, can´t enjoy anything anymore,
nothing excites me or "recharges my batteries". But then, in January this year, i stumbled upon "Hi Ren" here on RUclips.
And that breathtaking piece of ART hit me like a punch to the stomach. I`m 55 years old and have NEVER seen or heard anything like this before.
And have been hooked to Ren and his wide range of music, creativity, lyricism ever since. He has sparked a fire in me that i thought was completely lost.

And you Mary, are also a great example of leveraging the tools of the internet and keeping your artistic integrity.
Knowing you busked in Brighton, I have often wondered if you ever crossed paths or knew Ren at all? I personally am a 57 year old guitarist and I see him as a once in a lifetime talent. Mind-blowing levels of genius and Sam and Luke have clearly played a big part in how he has exploded over the last year.

I first saw the Justin Hawkins interview and then got sucked into the Ren Rabbit hole, I stayed in there so long I felt like I had a new brother when I reappeared. There are so many layers of Ren to work through and all of them are incredible. The album, Sick Boi, is a total masterpiece. For me it’s ‘Down on the Beat’ featuring his equally talented and chisel cheekboned friend Viktus. Baselines don’t get any phatter than this!! Everyone who follows Ren soon realises what an unstoppable talent he is and feels lifted by his wave 🌊❤

This was tremendous! I appreciate that you called out how much work Ren has put in. Yes he has incredible talent, but that doesn't mean a thing unless you practice and put in the work. I just wanted to add that he favors the telecaster, so obviously very cool.
I'm sure you've heard the tales of Jenny, Screech, and Violet, but those just made me say, OK this guy is a modern bard. I think he has shaken a lot of things up. I think that music for lots of us, myself included, is in a post-Ren world; having seen what he can do, all else got a little more pedestrian by comparison. I think it's amazing that we're here to witness this!

"He's shown that you don't need the might of a record label behind you to find success. You don't need to pander to radio stations or change who you are for gatekeepers. You can make the art that you want and use the internet to find others like you." This is an inspiring sentiment that does indeed apply to this one person, whose mixture of talent, charisma and being in the right place at the right time have resulted in success for him. But he is the exception rather than the rule. For every Ren there are 10,000 people who are just as talented and just as devoted to their art, who we'll never hear about because they just don't hit find the magic formula of talent and luck. So, for him, what you said is true, but for most people, it's not.
