Eileen got Morton on her show for a complete hour, it was a very good interview. I didn’t like him prior to her interview but respected him afterwards. Eileen was always the classiest act on TV.
Maybe he was afraid of being without his regular audience - those New Jersey Neanderthals who cheered his every word! Old Mort shouldn’t have been so cocky about those “four packs of cigarettes a day,” since that brought about his demise. Watch an excellent documentary, “Evocateur: The Morton Downey Jr Movie.” A funny, annoying, and ultimately sad story of his rise and fall. Hard to believe that he was popular for just under two years; the fall was hard and sudden, in large measure because of his ego.

I read his book in his heyday.....and I remember thinking: "Why couldn't his show be like this?" He was much more level-headed in the book.
boggs is insufferable
