My cat yowls when she brings in a good prey. Which for me usually means maybe save a life or clean up the left overs of her prey. Point is, I hear the difference. Does she come in to say hello & beg for a cuddle? Or does she announce what wonderful prey she caught & how wonderful she is? I hear the difference in her voice.
Funny story: my older cat never used to vocalize much. I accidentally closed him in a closet one night, and he didn't make a sound until he got tired of being in there. And then his sound was bumping against the door trying to get out, not meowing! Then we got another cat, and she's a real talker. After a few years of listening to her talk to us all the time and seeing how much attention she got, our older cat is now a talker too! I swear he learned it from her.
@@lindagrabnertravis3475 A friend told me one of the saddest things she's seen was when they moved out of their house (they previously had lost a faithful moggy which her kids had always thought about). Anyway moving out and right down the back of shed they found a massive long carpet reem and right down the bottom was a patiently waiting curled up mummified cat. It's something I try not to think about. I hope God has special things waiting for little souls such as these.
Mate, you are right! I rescued a semi-feral cat about a year ago. Vasya is around three y/o boy. He was skinny, quite malnourished, shy, easily intimidated cat. Took him off the streets, he had never had a home. Vasya was a silent cat. Like dead silent 🐈. Well than, it took him around one month to become none stop talking cat! I suspect he learned that from other cats (house cats) that roam around here. They are very friendly to me, especially when I give them little treats. Now, as the result of that, our Vasya Hairy Bum Bum Cuteness Overload Little Bunny 🐰, does not shut up! 🤣😽 I love it. Best cat on the planet. I can easily have a conversation with my boy. He answers to me when I address him! It’s hilarious 😆. He also announces his arrival at which ever room he enters. Vasya is in da house. 🤣 PS. He loves us soooo much. I have never seen an animal being so grateful like Vasya is. He would’ve died last winter from cold, wet weather 🇬🇧 /hunger/cat fight wounds etc. He is doing well now....doubled in size and very much loved
Actually it was a more widespread operation than that. In fact, if you are reading this, you may very well have been programmed. Rumor has it, it was done nocturnally, via microchip, says my cat- yes, she let the cat out of the bag. I am sworn to protect her anonimity and cannot provide further details.
Anyone else have a cat who's learned how to say a human word? Our little chatty lady taught herself to say "hello" to get our attention, because that's how we always greet her. We'll hear a little "Hewwo" outside the bedroom or bathroom door when it's closed. Sometimes she even pronounces the L's correctly, and it's amazing. 😁❤😸
Yes! My cat learned that the best way to wake me up to feed him is to say “mommy”. It’s so clear that it’s kind of scary, like waking up with a cat facing you and screaming “mommy”!!
When my mom was sick and did not yet know she had cervical cancer, our cat Tobi would lay on her stomach and purr so loudly. My mom would say it would feel like he was trying to ease the pain in her stomach. He was the sweetest boy ❤️
@@missmary2877 He really was! My mom calls him her little angel because he saw with us during such a hard time. I still miss him very much but he's finally resting after a full life with us!
Two years ago I was walking down my stairs and my cat got super excited and tripped me, I broke my leg... Wasn't able to live in my apartment for a couple weeks but would still come visit, the first night in my apartment after I was allowed to take the boot off and sleep, he fell asleep on my broken leg right where the break was and purred all night, I know he knew what happened and was trying to make it better.
I got my first cat almost 3 months ago. He's a rescue/street kitten, got him when he was about 4 weeks. Learned a lot watching these videos. Today i put him a harness and took him outside. I guess he enjoyed, because it was the first time i heard him chatter😊. Such a cute sound
Well done with the harness. I was able to do that with sibling kittens I had from 6 weeks old -- but tried it this weekend with a couple of rescue cats of 2 years old and they have found two different ways to get out of good harness, right ize, properly fitted, just wriggled legs out first and went backwards; the other did a quick shimmy and a backwrads summersault which brought her out upside down and head first. Have sent back the harnesses for a refund! I think you have to have the right cat personaltity and catch them as kittens
My neutered male has a 'where is everybody' meow. If he thinks he's all alone he will do that pitiful meow. Once I yell out to him that I'm here and in another room. He stops and sometimes comes in to be with me. He's gone now and I miss that so much.
Mine not only does that, he will find toys or objects and has them in his mouth and is trying to give them to me.....ROWL... ROW ROW ROWL....until he either sees me or until he realizes I'm not there and I always know how much he misses me by the number of toys and stuff I find by my door...lol He has even tried giving the toys to our other cat and she is perplexed by it and walks away as if to say "What is up with you, bud? I don't get you....I think I'll go over here now"
Whenever we come home or we open a door and she hasn't seen us in awhile the cat does one quick meow chirp and it's the same sound everytime. I'm pretty sure she is saying hello. She only does it once and it's when she first sees us.
i once read a story about a young woman's old cat she rescued, she wasn't a cuddly cat and didn't like sleeping with her. but one night when the woman was really sick, the cat climbed up into her bed, under the covers, dug her claws into the bed, pushed herself as close as possible to her owner, and purred all night long. i think she was trying to help her get better
Absolutely. I have severe copd. A few weeks ago I was having great difficulty in breathing. I'm not too far from giving up the ghost. Three or four times he got up from sleeping against my legs and tried to see if I was still breathing. They know.
When I was really tired after a long trip my cat wouldn’t leave me alone. I don’t mean he bothered me, he just had to be in the room with me while I caught up on sleep until I felt better.
I had a cat who had two very distinctive purrs One was soft and quiet, when she was happy and chilled out The other was loud, intentional, she would purr in time with kneeding her human, and she did this when someone was either in emotional distress (particularly my autism meltdowns/ overwhelmed episodes) , physically sick or stressed out. She was truly trying to heal her humans and you could tell, Rip lil angel, best cat ever
My mom’s dog Chui just died tonight. She was having seizures and we had to take her to the humane society to be put down. Somehow my cat Ozzy knew something was wrong even tho he stays in my bedroom. He was following me around and then when we were taking Chui to the car, Ozzy ran up to the window. We picked up chui and held her up to the window to “say goodbye”. I could hear him crying at the door when we were leaving. A year ago, my mom’s other dog Chico also passed away except he died in our home. When we were waiting to have his body taken, Ozzy knew something was wrong then too. He was scratching at my door and then even started making a running start at the door and then jump-kicking it, multiple times!
When my older kitty started yowling at night, I put out some night lights and the yowling stopped. As they get older, they don’t see as well in the dark, so put out night lights for your older kitty and see if it helps ❤
Met a deaf cat once, she was loud as hell when she asked peasants to pet her. Also, she loved dogs because her owner had one and they were best friends... The dogs didn't like her so much, but since she couldn't hear them barking at her she would sit outside people's houses and stare at dogs while purring at them. She was the sweetest.
When I learned that cat’s purr when they are hurt or sick and their purr helps the healing process, I was so blown away! I thought they were comforting her, but they were also healing her! I’m referring to my mom when she was going thru chemo & radiation, both my cats would lay on her lap and purr for hours every day. The purring would only stop when they would eventually fall asleep. I have so many pictures of both of them curled up together on her lap. So precious!
We saw similar behavior from Zozo when my wife got really sick. She ended up having some of her colon removed and it was a really painful procedure. Zozo would lay on the bed near my wife, and when it really hurt, would cuddle close to my wife's face and put a paw out and just open and close her little toes. No claw, just moving what my kids call "her foot beans" in and out, in and out, like a massage. And that would put my wife to sleep, often waking up later feeling great, with that cat somewhere on the bed acting like a sentinel. Should anyone but me come into the room, she would run them out! And she had her ways to make it clear: This one needs rest, go away! And so one day, I was there, my wife sleeping and healing, Zozo came to me and was going to let me know it was time to eat. On the way over, there was this piece of brush. Just the flexible plastic part with all the little spikes. I had stepped on it, meaning it was slowly flexing back, and was going to pop a little. Zozo was walking around it when the pop happened! She hopped back, looking at me with her tail in that question mark shape. So iconic! Of course the question was, "Where is it's face?" I picked it up, smelled it, bent it this way and that and then set it back down. Zozo's turn. She sniffed a couple times, picked it up and took it to her basket over in the corner of another room. Somehow, in all of that it became hers, and that's where that thing was for a very long time. She would sometimes play with it, and it ended up back in that basket most of the time. These furry friends are complex and interesting beings sharing this world with us. Sure glad we've got them. The place would be a bit more lonely without cats.
I was going through chemo last year and the boys wouldn’t come near me but my little girl came and laid on my tummy After every round of chemo. They don’t leave me alone now they are constantly by my side and take it in turns to lay on me in bed. I do hope you mum is better. God Bless. X
I recently got a kitty and I've subscribed to this channel. I want to give my cat the best possible life and understand his needs. Thank you for these videos.
introvert most likely. Doesn't like strangers. But they always come around pretty quick. One of my kitties was very timid when he was a baby, he would jump and run for any noise. He slashed my palm open with his claws once trying to get away. Now he is a real cool people cat.
My cat does the same thing, he will run to the front door if he hears someone and growl then runs to me, he also growls at cars going by our windows as he looks out. He is loud sounds like a dog growling rather than a cat.
My cat does the same thing, And because she's mostly always in the window, she see's a car pulling up in the driveway & she'll start growling, & when they get to the door & knock, she takes off running to hide. She just doesn't like to be around people.

My male cat does the caterwauling when he eats his dinner. All 4 of our cats are fixed... none of my girls make it... Is it like he's pounding his chest when he eats? It just sounds like he's yodeling with glee. He'll do it for several minutes... When our first female came home she tarzan yelled at mealtime. It took almost 6 months for her to learn meowing from our male. She learned the trill eventually on her own too. Our 2 female kittens chatter at windows.
Two questions Jackson. I once had a CAT that would just move his mouth when he was disgusted at me. It looked like he was cussing me out under his breath...lol. It was really cute. Sorry, list my train of thought on the second one, but I hope the powers that be will allow you to see my comment above. I would be interested in your opinion.
My sterilized cat makes caterwauling for NO REASON at nights and when she catches a prey, she literally catch a lizard and start making that sound ._. Why? She can't have kittens, she should not get into heat since she was sterilized 10 years ago ._.
I learned to copy my cats language and over the years have been able to initiate a conversation with them. They always answer me and will keep up a long conversation.
I've recently started volunteering as a cattery assistant at a local rescue and I got to spend time with a lovely mumma cat that has just had kittens (they're currently about 2-3weeks old). The moment she saw me, she jumped down from the chair that she was on and I sat down with her. The moment I sat down, she climbed into my lap and started grooming me and purring (VERY loudly!) then, when I went back for my shift the other day, I made sure to spend some time with her and I groomed her, and she purred very loudly (and also kept attacking the brush 😂)
I looked at my cat intently, stretched my mouth and yawned loudly. My cat looked back at me, and did the *exact same thing.* It was like we finally understood what one another was trying to say. "I'm bored." "Yeah, me too."
I used to have a deaf cat. She made the strangest sounds. Her meow sounded like a telephone ring with a meow on the end. She hissed at me once, and I've never seen a cat open their mouth that wide! It was like the Alien monster. Just a really long, menacing hiss! And then she would take all her little toys into the bathroom, arrange them in a half circle, and then sit on the edge of the tub, and lecture them. I miss her.😪
Yup, my first cat was the same when she went deaf and a bit senile. Would hunt rolled up pairs of socks from everywhere she could, carry them in her mouth and leave them around the house then yowl as loud as she could to alert us to her hunting. It was so loud I could hear it in my bedroom two floors up. Man, what a character.
My cat was nearby and when there were the different meows playing, she'd turn her head around and look at me....with that stare, like saying, "is there something you need to tell me?" 😹
I enjoy your videos so much because it's obvious how much you love cats and understand them. I've watched other people's videos on cats and there are some that are pretty good, but yours are BY FAR the best and the most thorough! I love all the sounds cats make and I especially love when I can have an actual back-and-forth conversation with them. But to hear two cats having a conversation with each other is one of the coolest things I’ve experienced. One night I woke up when two of my cats were having a conversation with each other! They were ‘twirring’ (this is the word I’ve always used) back and forth to each other and it was the cutest thing! You’re absolutely right about cats having a palate of sounds! My first cat, Sugar Puff (AKA “the love of my life”), a long-haired dilute calico who I had for 19 years, had an extremely interesting ‘twir’ that sounded like a grunt. Everyone in the family had conversations with her and she’d reply with her ‘grunts’ (‘twirs’)! I’ve never ever met another cat that’s made that same sound! My other long-haired dilute calico, Daisy, (who lived to be 18 yrs) had 2 different ‘caterwauls’. (This was back in the 1970s before my parents had her spayed.) Daisy had a caterwaul ‘routine’ where she’d make 4 of the typical caterwauls, like what you demonstrated. She’d then pause for about 5 to 10 seconds before making an entirely different sound that I can only describe as sort of a punctuation! (It’s impossible to describe the sound she made, but I can still imitate it perfectly after all these years!) Thanks for sharing all of your cat knowledge with the world. Please keep the content coming!
Our cat will whisper to us. We got into the habit of whispering so as not to wake the kids in our tiny house. Our cat Reese will respond to us when we whisper "Good morning" by opening her mouth wide and letting out a little whiff of air. She'll have a whole conversation with us just "hhhhhhhh"ing to us. She's been doing this for ten years. It's sweet and calming. :-)
I've been trying to describe this for a while now! My Pudge follows me into the potty and he sort of breathe talks. A sort of breathy (not a word) chirp. I love that time between us, the bathroom has super calming light in there, he just rolls around a bit. Then he's so cute that I have to pick him up and he sort of melts into my arms for this hug thing. It's so sweet. He puts his little back feet into the palm of my hand and lays his head on my shoulder and I just love him so very much. I was in there crying the other night bc only he and I (and now the internet) know about this little routine we have. I just don't even want to live in a world where he doesn't breathe his little breath on my forehead, his version of a kiss. He considers me. It's like he says "You. Are. A. Good. Human." & There are times that we really need that.
my kitty is a polite weirdo and doesn't want to bother anyone when their sleeping but he likes cuddles so he will kind of whisper meow in your ear to ask if you're awake for cuddles! Edit: that isn't the only polite thing he does, he just is a massive sweetie. He has never gotten into anything or in trouble really. We wonder if he is a cat sometimes.
I had a cat who would go to the hallway, and begin howling. This was always followed followed by a tornado in the area. The howls started way before the sirens would go off. When she did that we would all pack up and go to the basement (with her of course). Thanks Jackson for sharing your knowledge and helping animals.
That's smart bc cats can feel the barometric level drop, & they become wild-eyed & bonkers! My Mom & I, + her cat, survived a huge tornado on my 18th bday. The local weather service was down that night so there was no warning, & my mother & I had all the windows open + sliding glass doors to a balcony. She had a gorgeous lake view, but that night it looked like a ton of little explosions of light that could be seen through a massive storm. Apts & condos were getting completely leveled across the lake but we didn't know it yet. Pine straw needles were coming through the screens of our windows, & suddenly, the cat literally went insane! She was flying around from room to room, crying like crazy, all fluffed up, dashing from one hiding spot to another. Finally, we realized from HER behavior that something was very, very wrong! We shut the windows & doors, & sat together holding the cat until the freight train sound passed & the cat calmed down. The next morning, everything across the lake was leveled, just like everything in its path. We found out how we were spared - the tornado hit the water on the lake & literally jumped right over us! It was a miracle for sure! Anyway, that's my tornado on my 18th bday story, the moral of which is to pay attention to your cat's behavior during severe thunderstorms - they can feel it, & will try desperately to warn their pet humans!
My boy Harry trills at me. He also meows in response when I 'meow' songs to him, like the Star Wars theme or Beethoven's 5th (I can't believe I do that lol, but he loves it!) Harry was a bottle-baby kitty, & had absolute reliance on us. He had a lot of security issues, & did a lot of wool-sucking. Now he's 11 & a big, happy boy & my dear friend :-)
My old cat Emile used to nurse on my nightdress when I was just minding my business and watching TV in bed at night, I got him when he was 8 weeks old so I don't know what possessed him to do that
Besides my girl's purr I absolutely love her "mrrp." Especially when she is surprised. I love that she is a "talker" and greets me at the door like a dog. 🥰
When my wife's cat was relatively young still, she had some issues and I watched your show and learned so much about how to deal with those issues. It changed my relationship with her for the better and until just last month, she was a loving part of our family. She died a month ago at the age of 14 from cancer. I wanted you to know that your show was a tremendous impact on our ability to make our house a home for Juicy and helped us understand her behaviors and how to best adjust and make her feel safe.

I've had my cat Chilly for 3.5 years, and I have only *once* heard her hiss. That was during a vet visit where we ended up with a rather incompetent vet, and after Chilly had been stung in the leg with a needle 4 times without successfully drawing the blood sample, she had had enough and hissed. Very reasonable if you ask me.
Same, my four year old female cat hissed for the first time to her new playmate, a new female kitten, that she dislikes very much hahaha she only hisses at her, never at us, the vet, guests, dogs, other animals, just at the young one that she thought was replacing her :’( I wanted her to have a friend cause I spent a lot of time out of the house and it was a disaster lmaooo, now she’s 8 and her sister is 5 and well, now she’s used to her and only hisses when attacked by the other, she’s established a dominant position for herself lol, they share food and water and even eat together head to head, but her sister wants to play and she DOES NOT. Lmao it was sad at the beginning cause I honestly thought she would appreciate it, well she was one of the few that prefers to be an only cat haha
Same, my cat's only hissed at me once and it was when I was trying to take off her bandage the first time we went to the vet a day after I adopted her 😂 if your cat's hissing at you more than that, check what you're doing!
My year old male does the trill a lot even before we got his baby brother and I used to worry if it was because he was unhappy or fed up but if it's considered a positive thing that has given me peace of mind ❤ I have heard a cat make the same sound of a seagull and the seagull nearly fell for it and that really shocked me 😂
This show reminded me of the 6 month old feral cat tom I brought home from the pet crematorium when we went to get our 18 yr old cat's ashes. He slowly adjusted to life with our other three cats and of course never meowed until he'd been with us 3 years. My daughter and I were in the kitchen fixing their evening meal, all the other cats were meowing loudly when suddenly the purest, on pitch, soprano meow rang through the air. Everyone, cats and humans, turned toward him with surprise. He was looking around as if to figure out who made that sound too, when suddenly he let out another beautiful meow and then jumped about 3 feet into the air. It was such a foreign sound to him it scared him every time he heard himself make it. It was quite some time before he realized the sound was coming from him.
@@amazingabby25 yes he did, for 15 glorious years. I miss him so much. He had the purest, clear, perfect high A to C meow that would stop everyone, humans & animals, in mid step. He was found at the age of 6 months dumpster diving for food behind a red lobster by the owner of our local pet cremation company. A man who would drive to your home, sit and talk with you about your loved one who'd just passed and would ever so gently placed them in a wicker basket and cover them with a small, soft blanket. We did become sort of a gentle joke among friends as the only people who went to pick up our dead cat at the pet crematory and also came home with a live one.
When you were talking about the trill and played the sound, my kitten, who had stopped playing to watch the video with me, immediately responded with her own trill then went back to playing. 😁
Hi Jackson, I’m in England and man am I glad I discovered your channel 🎉 iv never found someone so intune with how I feel about cats👌🏻 youv tought myself and my daughters (who each have two cats) and where raised with cats as part of our family, so much about their behaviour. Thank you and it’s your empathy and lovely mannerisms too👌🏻 thank you Jackson😊
My male cat's trill or chirrup is definitely his way of saying hello, especially if he walks into the room and wasn't expecting to see me. It comes across as if it's a pleasant surprise for him and is really sweet.
Yup. My old tom did this, too, right before he jumped on me to knead and purr. Always a friendly chirp. His heir to the throne did it as a "hello", too - and whenever I hissed at him when he scratched my chairs he gave me some downwards chirp, then, and it sounded like: "Kiss my hairy butt, I'll do it anyway!"
My older cat (sadly passed now) uses to talk to me. Like I'd be out working, came home and she'd be lying on my bed where I sleep and I'd be like "what the f*ck?" Then she'd start replying and purring like "ha, you moved, mine now" or if she was out "helping" around the farm she'd just chat to anyone that spoke to her. I'm really peeved I never got a video of her speaking before she died though.
I love this man!! I love you man! Keep it up. I'm a cat lover, have been my whole life and I'm 53 and I still learn something new when I watch Jackson and my cat from hell. Thank you so much for doing what you do..and for doing it so well. God bless you and yours! Respectfully Elise Gunn Missouri
My sphynx cat distinctly says "mama" to catch my attention, it freaks people out how clearly she says it. She's very smart, she likes to learn tricks and apparently tries to master the human language too lol
When my cat wants to come in , she sounds like she’s calling “hel lo, hel lo” in quite a loud and deeper than her usual meows. She was spade when a kitten, and she’s been shouting hello to be let in for years (she’s 14 years old now). Love her small meows and prps when we talk to each other.
A week ago I adopted two sisters, 7 months old, and both of them vocalize when they walk into a room as if they're announcing themselves. They're so cute.
My sisters call one another from upstairs to downstairs or vice versa. It’s so cute. One meows and the other one will get up and run to see her sister. ❤
That's wonderful. Our cat would do the same when she would go to her feeding station too. That's what I called her food and water dishes. I called it her little feeding station that was only hers. LOL
I was told from a friend that studied cats for a few years, that the chattering sound when they're looking at prey, is because of their instinctual reactions. Specifically, cats fangs do the most killing and the cats are well versed in how to insert their fangs into the prey's neck to disable the prey. So when the cat is looking at a prey, it causes them to exhibit their instinctual bites. Basically they're daydreaming about the kill and it makes their mouths move as they envision how to take down that prey.
I'm disabled, and I got my cat around the time I stopped working. I helped raise her and her littermates also, so I've had my cat her whole life. She's the most vocal creature I've ever encountered, and I'm 99% positive it's because I've been around her talking to her like a baby for her whole life. She even has a different tone for me and my flatmates lol, like a special tone just for me feels so special
The best cat I ever had, beautiful traditional Siamese boy, trained me to play fetch with him. He'd carry his toy mouse to me, drop it at my feet, & stare at me, "chattering" non-stop w/ excitement, til I picked it up & threw it, so he could run & fetch it, & bring it back to me to throw it again...and again...and again. I still miss him 30 years later. 💔
Both my cats do the same. Romie will actually return the toy by jumping on the bed with it in his mouth. I don't even have to get up. I just throw it and he brings it back, for 30 minutes at a time, several times a day. EVERY time I sit on the toilet, IT'S PLAYTIME!!! 😅
I had a huge male that would get violently carsick in the carrier, but was perfectly fine on a lap. One day, I saw my 5 yr old carrying him around in a pillowcase. I stopped her, and she said, "But he LIKES it!"-- and he did! He would ride around in there like a hammock, purring loud as could be. Next trip to the vet, I pillowcased him and, instead of yowling and puking the whole time, he arrived calm and happy :-)
When I was little, I had two cats: Maggie and Mischief. They grew up together and were best friends but sadly Mischief was diagnosed with cancer young and passed away. For about three months after he died, Maggie would walk around the house (only when we weren't in the room, if she thought we could see her she wouldn't do it) but she would make this cross between a caterwaul and a yowl and it was just so heartbreaking to hear. We could tell she was looking for him and missed him... It was really sad but, Maggie at the least lived a very long and happy life. She passed away at the ripe old age of 21 and was always treated like the queen she was. We ended up rescuing a kitten for her to have a buddy after we lost Mischief and, after a customary 500 hisses, her and Tallie became pretty good friends!
well just made a comment about my male cat, and it was the same when we suddenly lost our shih tzu he grew up with, played with, and snuggled with. She was 3 at the time and died because of an auto immune attack.
My kitty will lay on her back or her side and stare at me and flick her paws until she gets a belly rub😂! when it's late at night or early in the morning she will whisper meow when she wants something, it's almost like she knows. it's quiet time.😂 she is a character and I love her very much!
My cat repeatedly yells this very specific meow that goes "ow-wow?" when she's looking for me around the house or if there's a closed door between us. Sometimes I see her doing it while walking around with a toy in her mouth while looking for me lol.
My little girl does the same thing, if she doesn't see me, she calls out until she sees me or I reply. My favorite newwannoying thing, in the middle of the night, my mom will get up, baby will run to her meowing until she follows her to where I am. I wish I understood what she is trying to convey. That is the annoying part, the not knowing. She only just started doing this about a year ago.
I had a cat which would to do this also, mainly after she lost her hearing. She would make this sound (in her case it sounded eerily like a small child yelling "hello") when she was on her own and was trying to find one of us to interact with, most commonly looking for someone to snuggle up to.
Thtas exaclty what my cat does, whith the toy in his mouth. Sterilised and male cat. Why does he do that :/ Some times it grapples on my foot like i'm leave somewhere and kind makes me sad like he is in pain or smthing :(
We had a cat that made the same vocalization after anyone sneezed. It was a variety of sounds & only made that sound when he heard a sneeze. He blessed us for 15 years. He was a part Burmese & domestic short hair. Love you, Maxie.❤️😻
@@teddytiger2012 my Siamese girl also does that when I sneeze. I think she doesn´t like my loud sneezing as I am allergic and the noise I make is quite disturbing
Mine only chirps since we got the second, a kitten ! It’s been magical having 2 cat, we’re blessed with a lovely sisterhood where the young one is teaching our old lady to play, which she never did before.
My girl is so chatty. She just talks talks talks talks and I love how she consistently walks me to the need. Dry food fall into the water and ruin it? She will cry and herd me to the water dish. She poops in the litter box and wants her old poop removed? You guessed it. I think the best one was when she got the zoomies for the first time in my house and walked me to a kitchen chair to watch her at 2am. She has me well trained.
@@Nari_Trovi thanks. Shes a 10 year old I adopted from the shelter about 2 montbs ago so I'm still discovering her personality as we encounter new experiences together.
My cats are like that too. Very chatty. Always greets and talks to me when I come home and the girl will walk me right to what she wants. If the bottom of her food bowl is showing just a little or the food in the water like you said and the meowing and leading begins lol
I have a question on cat behavior, my kit catches critters, mice, spiders, rabbits...he brings them in the house, and puts them in the bath tub. Boocat will periodically check on his critters, but he just doesn't hurt them...even humming birds go in the bath tub, then the drapes...I like that he is so gentle, just don't understand( he's not so gentle with me all the time, but purrs like crazy while he tears up my arm, when we'spar' I let him win...just cuz he's better than me at it...lol
My cat never shuts up. He has activation sound effects, jumping sound effects, reacting to noises, to people. The cutest thing he does is saying something complex and then yawning with some leftover meows. Weirdly, he does the "chatter" only when he's annoyed by humans making loud sounds
@@katerae7183 aw! My housecat, born and raised inside, couldn't have cared less about thunderstorms. My shelter cat, found as a stray, who was not normally clingy, would come running to me for a cuddle during a storm.
That trill is also a sound my cat makes if saying I reach out to pet her and she was napping or I sat down next to her and then reached out to pet her and she will trill. My friends have also noticed similar sounds with their cats, and we've nicknamed it the 'cat activation sound.' To me, it's a sound that seems like an acknowledgment of my presence and interaction with the cat, inquiring what I would like from them. So, it seems like it's more than just a cat's communication with kittens, it's also a kind of acknowledgment of human interaction. YMMV.
@@Jackiecarlet my male is the same way, he actually meowed the other day for breakfast and i was shocked, his sister is noisy and knows how to get exactly what she wants but he just trills.
Philip Buckley and elephants have nearly three times as many neurons as humans, so the number of neurons or size of the brain is not a direct correlation of intelligence.
Do people want to listen to cool too bad I'm telling you guys anyway I taught my cats how to sit, spin, shake, and and guess what SPEAK! No really it is true.
I watched his show when I was younger, and I took to heart a lot of what he said when I grew up and got my own cats. I've had people incredibly surprised at how sweet and well-behaved my cats are, like cats can't be loyal, social creatures. 😂 Thank you for impacting me so I could be a good cat mama, Jackson. I don't know what I'd do without my babies.
I had this happen with my boy Spyro. He helped me understand cats like no other cat could. That bond is such a special one and it's a shame not more people get to experience it. Once you have had a bond like that with a cat, it makes interactions with other cats easier and more rewarding
@@pamelablackshire Two of my cats are sisters, they turned 9 yesterday. One has a purr you can hear across the room when she is being petted, her sister has an inaudible purr.. I can barely feel it with my finger tips. Their Dad, who turns 10 the 15th of March doesn't purr at all, not even low vibrations. He just makes biscuits on my legs when he snuggles. I have had cats my whole life, I'm 64. They are each as different as you or I. I've been blessed by a natural understanding of these beautiful creatures. I have spent hours observing their behaviors. I know what Jackson said about their vocalizations is true and accurate. I'm glad he has opened the world of cats to so many people. I love dogs, I have had tons of dogs, but they seem to have so many people as advocates. Cats for some reason haven't had the positive press dogs get. I just think cat people are a little more introspective than pure dog folks. It's because cats do require us to be more thoughtful and mindful of them.
Thank you Jackson Galaxy for helping us understand our kitties. Interesting story to share- We have a 2 year old spayed cat and while camping, if we had to leave her for a little while, we'd place a Nest cam (in front of our lit Wifi device) to ensure the camper had electricity. While playing back the video, we noticed she made the most pitiful sounds we've ever heard. She was CATERWAULING (just learned the term! lol). We felt it was like a call to us because we were gone, so I think they will make that sound for other reasons other than mating.
My cat Mia has a specific meow for when she's about to throw up. It's this extremely sad-sounding yowl that clearly means "Mommy I don't feel so good" and whenever I hear it I immediately rush to get cleaning supplies
My cat uses trills in a lot of ways. He does it as a greeting when I come home, as a sort of "thanks" when I feed him, and also if I give him the 'love blink' he sometimes trills to me then snuggles himself right into me.
Haha yep, I caught that too lol Oh, and if you're bored one day, binge Jackson's channel. I've had cats all my life and thought I knew everything.... MAN! He's fascinating! The slow blink is my favorite ❤️
My family cat was 19 before she passed. Ever since she turned about 14 (when I was 15) she started walking around the house at night, meowing and yowling, running into everyone's rooms. I'd try to let her sleep with me but she just ended up trying to get into my closet, and then running back out of the room. She only stopped doing it when she was old enough to just start laying on her bed all day, only getting up to eat and use the litterbox.
Mine are always trills into a meow...just drilling and chirping. It's ridiculous. They only meow when they're mad I'm not giving them more wet food or if they can't find me (when they WANT to find me)
I appreciate that you hit the nail on the head with "they are forever infantilized" by us responding to their meows. An interesting point to keep in mind when dealing with the animalhood of cats. Ferals, neighborhood cats, and indoor cats are not one in the same, and we should not expect them to behave the same.
Exactly! I got my little kitty when he was just 6 weeks old. I wanted an older kitten because I think it's better for them to stay with their mom for at least(!) 8-9 weeks, but the family that had the kittens wanted to get rid of the kittens ASAP. I became his replacement mom, and I love conversing with kittens, so we now have our own way of communicating. It's really funny to me when Jackson called them forever infantilized because nothing is more true, especially if you had your kittens young and they relied on you so much in the first few weeks.
I rescued cat also, she was lost and hungry when I found her, and she stays with us. She makes me happy, when I feel sick, she come to me and talk to me.. stay with me.
We often get cockroaches in our home and my cat will do this "warning" noise to call us. She knows that we give her treats every time she finds a roach and helps us find it and get rid of it. It's like this low-guttural half-meow. I know exactly what it means whenever I hear it.
when I was living on campus during college, our building had a roach problem and my cat wouldn't always make a noise but he would ALWAYS have the same body language of "whoa moving critter must catch" but clearly somewhat hesitant as if he was disgusted by it too. conflicted predator response. that made finding them much less shocking. he's a good boy.
So sweet. My boy patrols the house at night. And I can tell when he looks suspicious, then I will see something on my camera. It’s amazing how he knows.
Our exterminator said our cat is better at catching mice than their traps. He catches them alive and brings them to us. “HERE MOM! Brought you a present!” 😸👍🏼
I've seen cats make the caterwauling sound for other reasons, such as wanting to enter a room (usually with a person they want to see in it) but the door is closed, wanting to go outside, or dismay at toys getting trapped under furniture and being unable to get them out. The sound seems like the purpose is for trying to get someone's attention (a cat or a human) because they need assistance with something they can't do on their own.
Thank you, because my boy cat does it, so Jackson's explanation didn't really apply lol but yes it's always when he wants to get at us from outside our room. Our friend was visiting once and told us our lil boi sat outside our door and put his mouth down at the crack under the door so he could yell even louder at us lol never seen that before
My cat does this pretty much every day! I have always assumed it's because she either wants attention, or probably more likely, she wants outside or in the garage.
My fixed male cat CONSTANTLY caterwauls. He goes outside and caterwauls so loud the neighbors across the street will run outside thinking he's in a cat fight or hurt. He'll get slightly away from the house and caterwaul as loud as he can into the distance. When he heard the caterwaul on this vid he came running and started doing it right back at it. He is very loud and is VERY vocal. But the caterwaul is his number #1 noise. It's not even when he needs something, he'll go into the basement and do it. I've had him checked multiple times for anything that may be causing him pain. Nothing, he's just a loud and huge boy that loves to sing hard enough to shake the windows.
Alexandra Crawford awww that’s cute. Be careful with your cat outside. I had something beyond terrible happen to my baby when I was a younger. My cat caterwauls when he gets himself locked into thr bathroom
My girl Mini is spayed and she caterwauls when she is VERY UPSET as in the “I would like to speak to management as to why my food is not on time!!! This is outrageous” we used to hear it a lot more when we first got her and we rarely hear it anymore since we got a more reliable auto feeder. Our 2 year old boy Milo chirps/trills all the time to get us to follow him places or to tuck him under a blanket or to respond to us. That’s why his nickname is Trumpet because it sounds like a trumpet trill sometimes lol
I have a new rescue, he's still on kitten milk, was dumped and we found him. I fixed all his health issues and he's just watched the whole video with me. We both learned something today.😂🎉
I've had cats my whole life and now I have a deaf cat. It's so interesting to hear how he is using the language "wrong". A lot of times when he talk, his sister looks at him like he is crazy. He is so sweet ❤️
The trill is my absolutely favourite cat sound. Our female cat does it when she's happy, curious, playful and friendly, but also when she's surprised or excited. She's a very vocal cat who knows exactly how to make us do what she wishes.
My cat does it when she wants my attention and love. It means, "Don't you see me standing here, with my head next to yours? Yes, I know you're asleep but you need to pet me now!"
Jackson, I started watching 'My Cat From Hell' and found it very interesting - can really learn a lot! I have since then subscribed to your channel. You are amazing at teaching us how to interact with our cat(s). My cat is named Blue Storm, for the bluest eyes and I love it. Thanks for all that you do! Chaz
My little guy does the same thing! His favorite activity is running into the basement, screaming into each room like he's testing the acoustics, then running back up the stairs to tell me everything
I adopted my first Main Coon a few years ago, and he has more different vocalizations than any other cat I've had. He'll often have whole conversations with people, and uses a "purr-Meow" 😺😺
My cats (both of them, mother and son) - use the purr-Meow sound when they notice me doing somehing while they were napping. they are both wery curious cats, and I interpret that sound as - what are you up to again, human? :D
@@lindamazule2289 YES! Mine does this too. Like a 'mildly surprised but also interested' sound - almost like a 'huh, what?' He uses trills and small meows to greet me and this is like the sleepier version of that.
Hi Jackson Thank you very much for your efforts towards cats. You are a hero. We have a cat who is 12 years old today. Four years ago we moved to a new house 1 km away from the old one. Until then, the cat had never said anything. Today it talks all the time. Danish language is quite clear. “There is no water...” “I'm coming up the stairs, so I want to be petted. I'm almost up the stairs, so you might as well get ready!!! Are you ready????! How is it that he suddenly acquires such a clear language - and so much of it? Thank you for your care towards cats Susanne Jakobsen Denmark
My 18 year old granddaughter moved in with me for her last year of high school. She brought a tiny, female kitten with her. As she grew up (the cat), she started chirping at birds and squirrels and other animals she saw outside the window, as many cats do. But the most unusual chirping she ever does happens when my granddaughter and I are speaking to each other, in my granddaughter's bedroom, for example. The two of us are in there, talking to each other, and then the now grown cat (who is also in the room with us) starts chirping at the two of us. It is a happy chirp. It is almost like she wants to join in the conversation. Or she is happy that the two humans she loves the best are communicating with each other. That's how we interpret it, and it always makes us so happy to hear it. It is just one of those "too cute" things that our cat fur babies do!
The chirp or trill seems to me to be a "thank you" from kitties also a recognition, saying "welcome, come here!" Cats are very gracious animals and they follow social norms more than people do. They're elegant and polite.
they really do. my cat is pretty food-obsessed, yet whenever I put her food in her bowl she ALWAYS first stops to look up at me and 'thank' me for the food, waiting for me to pet her before she will start eating. often she vocalises it too. and of course, she purrs before and during eating :D
My cats main vocalisation is trills. It's weird. He barely meows. Like... ever. Unless he's in distress (eg. door to bathroom closed). It's really cute lol
I was watching this video in bed while my cat laid on the floor and the moment the video played the cat chirp/trill, she responded with her own trill and jumped up on the bed for some attention. ❤
I went through that last year. The young cat disapeared. The older one looked through the house for him and did the calling him out sound for days. It was not grieving. The older cat had a calling sound to where if young one was playing with mom or whatever he did he always rushed to the older cat uppon hearing that sound. Also after those few days of calling he started coming to my room. In and out like every 5 minutes. He did that before having the young one but not that often. It reached the point I could not stand it so after a few months I got another cat for him to have a new friend to play with. This one is a female and he rejected her at first, and even now after a year he plays with her but only cause she doesnt let him be. You can clearly see it's not the same for him but at least he doesn't stress me no more. I could not sleep at night because of him wanting to come to my room to pet him a little and then leave, coming back 5-10 minutes after for the same thing, doing this for like 30 times during night.
Update. Now we have problems with the young one too. She's almost a year old and this week we went with her to a check up cause her belly was kinda big. Turned out she has pancreatitis. Now she's on special food and medication. The doctor didn't want to pronounce if she will live or not. He just said that we will see how her condition is in a month on the next check up. But this new food from vet shop, she doesn't want to eat it. So we have to force feed her little at a time. Seeing her letargic all the time breaks my heart. I hope we won't loose her too. :(
@@EliteSCM Sorry to read this about your cat. I’m new to the cat world. They are tough but very delicate creatures. I hope all goes well for her and she’s starting to feel better.

My cat is almost two years old and he’s never once growled or hissed. Not at a person, not at another cat, never. He does, however, meow at me the second I get home from work and keeps doing it until I sit down on the couch so he can sit in my lap and snuggle. He’s such a sweet boy 😊
Awesome. Love cuddlers My cat Jr, for years would jump on his hindlegs front paws on me, as I came home from work, like a toddler wanting to be picked up. And I would. He is 17 and doesn't do that anymore, but he will put his paws on My lap as I sit so I will pick him up. He had an infection, open abcess, that he fought for a bit...it has slowed him down alot.?.but he is getting better. Staccess, I dread losing him....he has been my baby since he was 6 months old and dumped in my apt complex deck. But most of my cats live to 20..or longer..,so...hopefully.
I understand my cats “language”. A high pitched short meowing is a happy “hey, I’m fine” type of deal. A rapid type of meow is “feed me please” and....I do. Lol. They have a “hello” meow, and a “I’m ready for bed” meow too. I understand ALL of their meanings.
I don’t always understand, but if I walk up to him and show I’m paying attention, he’ll lead me to food or to the bed so I understand. The “hello, but I don’t particularly want anything” sound is different.
I am trying to figure out my new boy’s vocalizations. He is very chatty and won’t stop purring and trilling. He has everything I can think of, and just seems to protest for large parts of the day. Trying to get him in a good routine so I know he’ll be settled when I go back to work.
love it! I had a cat, Georgy, that showed up at my door, asking my other cat and I to come in. We let him in on the second day and we (my other cat, Vincent and I) adopted him for life. Georgy was funny...The vet said he was a senior, 8/10 years old, and he was indeed full of wisdom. He would come to greet me when I arrived home from work, and he would hold a 15minute plus very colorful dialog with me. He lived 10 more precious years with us and I miss him and our conversations dearly.
Our kitties are so sweet and so different. We have 5 various ages. Youngest about a year. Oldest about 13. All fixed. They communicate also differently. It's just fun to watch them play together and with our dogs too. We are truly blessed.
When you mentioned about accidentally trapping your cat inside your closet I remembered how my little sister accidentally did that to our new kitten. By chance I had to go to the bathroom later that night and heard meowing inside the walk in closet so I opened the door and there he was, little fur ball with big eyes looking at me like I just saved him from the jaws of a shark. He purred so loud and followed me in to the bathroom and refused to leave my side. He was SO happy 😂 he slept in my bed that night and wanted to cuddle the whole time. Didn’t get a lot of sleep but it was worth it, he was just too cute to refuse.
When I was little, long ago, someone trapped Miu-miu inside the fridge. Fortunately it wasn't for long...I opened the fridge door and the black cat jumped...
Back in the day, one of us accidently trapped the cat in the closet all day. He liked to sneak in and cuddle on the stuff at the bottom. When I got home from school I wondered where the cat was. He would always come greet me at the door. After a while I heard little muffled shuffeling sounds from the closet. Opened the door, and out ran the cat. He ran straight for the litterbox in the bathroom. When he was done, he xame back out and greeted me enthusiasticly.
5:01 Our girl cat started chirping/trilling *a lot* all of a sudden recently. We were wondering if something was wrong. Everything seems fine with her, but we were still contemplating calling the vet. Glad to know that it's nothing though.
jackson: “cats yowl when they’re hurt”
my cat: *yowling at half empty food bowl*
There heat is hurting because there sad that you didn’t give them “enough” food
ITS NEVER ENOUGH
My cat yowls when she brings in a good prey. Which for me usually means maybe save a life or clean up the left overs of her prey. Point is, I hear the difference. Does she come in to say hello & beg for a cuddle? Or does she announce what wonderful prey she caught & how wonderful she is? I hear the difference in her voice.
Bro. Don't you know? That's the worst pain of all.
My cat is 13. He still demands his bowl to be full.
You mean the cat was in the cupboard for 2 years?
@@djccatterall LOL, no only a few hours. I didn't realize he was in there until I heard the thumping against the door in the middle of the night.

PS. He loves us soooo much. I have never seen an animal being so grateful like Vasya is. He would’ve died last winter from cold, wet weather 🇬🇧 /hunger/cat fight wounds etc. He is doing well now....doubled in size and very much loved
FUN FACT Jackson Galaxy was actually engineered by smart scientist cats to further teach humans how to obey and understand them.
That would make perfect sense.
I can get behind this statement.
FACTS.
Actually it was a more widespread operation than that. In fact, if you are reading this, you may very well have been programmed. When my mom was sick and did not yet know she had cervical cancer, our cat Tobi would lay on her stomach and purr so loudly. My mom would say it would feel like he was trying to ease the pain in her stomach. He was the sweetest boy ❤️

He was trying to heal you.

My cat does the same thing!
You yell back? I meow back.
@@dlny911 Oh, what's wrong with me? I need to meow back!
i once read a story about a young woman's old cat she rescued, she wasn't a cuddly cat and didn't like sleeping with her. but one night when the woman was really sick, the cat climbed up into her bed, under the covers, dug her claws into the bed, pushed herself as close as possible to her owner, and purred all night long. i think she was trying to help her get better
Absolutely. I have severe copd. A few weeks ago I was having great difficulty in breathing. I'm not too far from giving up the ghost. Three or four times he got up from sleeping against my legs and tried to see if I was still breathing. They know.
Had a cat like that myself. He surprised me when he laid his head on me when I had the flu.
When I was really tired after a long trip my cat wouldn’t leave me alone. I don’t mean he bothered me, he just had to be in the room with me while I caught up on sleep until I felt better.
My sister rescued a cat and when my mom was sick in bed with cancer the kitty would lay with her in bed most of the time.
If we love, care and appreciate our cat(s) enough, they will do the same and sometimes even save our lives :)

The other was loud, intentional, she would purr in time with kneeding her human, and she did this when someone was either in emotional distress (particularly my autism meltdowns/ overwhelmed episodes) , physically sick or stressed out. She was truly trying to heal her humans and you could tell, Rip lil angel, best cat ever
I'm getting good at copying my cat's chirp. He looks at me like I'm speaking Italian with a German accent but he doesn't look insulted.😹

My cat woke up my mother before she found out her chest is hurting by meowing loudly to her. He practically saved my mom’s life.
That doesn’t surprise me at all. They know us better than we know ourselves, I think lol.
Wow, bless your cat. Hope your mom is well🙏🙏🙏
Practically?
Cat saved your mother live.
Thankful for your cat
When my older kitty started yowling at night, I put out some night lights and the yowling stopped. As they get older, they don’t see as well in the dark, so put out night lights for your older kitty and see if it helps ❤

I've got a deaf cat.
You might expect her to quiet.
She's really not.
She can't hear herself so she speaks louder ;w;
Aw poor kitty love her with all ur heart
Met a deaf cat once, she was loud as hell when she asked peasants to pet her.
Also, she loved dogs because her owner had one and they were best friends...
The dogs didn't like her so much, but since she couldn't hear them barking at her she would sit outside people's houses and stare at dogs while purring at them.
She was the sweetest.
Same as with deaf people, deaf animals will be louder because they can’t hear how loud they are
Mine too!! She doesn't meaw only trils (?). Doesn't purr euther
Awww ♥♥♥♥♥
I love this
We saw similar behavior from Zozo when my wife got really sick.
So iconic! Of course the question was, "Where is it's face?"
I picked it up, smelled it, bent it this way and that and then set it back down.
God Bless. X
My Siamese cat passed away this June from heart failure. He didn't have a meow, he had a foghorn. I miss that sound.

I'm so sorry Jessica. Your kitty cat knows your love for him and he misses you just as much.
My nan used to bread them....they have a different sound/accent to standard moggies, that's for sure. So sorry your little buddy is gone.

My cat growls like a dog when someone knocks on the door so I got him a tiny tag that says security
introvert most likely.
My cat does the same! She sounds like a dog when she does it. It looks as if she wants to attack
Mine does the same thing! He hates the sound of the doorbell or knocking at the door. He always growls 😂
My cat does the same thing, And because she's mostly always in the window, she see's a car pulling up in the driveway & she'll start growling, & when they get to the door & knock, she takes off running to hide. She just doesn't like to be around people.
This is my cat voice dictionary now. I always come back to it.

I love the thrill sound... especially they are playing in boxes 📦
Not all hero’s wear cape
My sterilized cat makes caterwauling for NO REASON at nights and when she catches a prey, she literally catch a lizard and start making that sound ._. Why? She can't have kittens, she should not get into heat since she was sterilized 10 years ago ._.
I learned to copy my cats language and over the years have been able to initiate a conversation with them. They always answer me and will keep up a long conversation.
I thought I was the only person that did this
I do this too!
Most of my cats should have been lawyers! However they do make excellent points.😁😷🇨🇦

I gotta get good at that. I copy my kittens and my boy kitty looks concerned haha
Thank you, Faith. You are a very special person.
Has she shown you her kittens? That's the ultimate show of trust from a mother cat.
I looked at my cat intently, stretched my mouth and yawned loudly. My cat looked back at me, and did the *exact same thing.*
It was like we finally understood what one another was trying to say. "I'm bored." "Yeah, me too."
Look up mirror neurons and yawning.
🤣
I used to have a deaf cat. She made the strangest sounds. Her meow sounded like a telephone ring with a meow on the end. She hissed at me once, and I've never seen a cat open their mouth that wide! It was like the Alien monster. Just a really long, menacing hiss! And then she would take all her little toys into the bathroom, arrange them in a half circle, and then sit on the edge of the tub, and lecture them. I miss her.😪
Not going to lie. I lol'd at the lecture.
Now I miss her too!
laughing at the lecture... i can imagine it now.

yup ! my best friend has a deaf cat and he is funnyy !!!!!
My cat was nearby and when there were the different meows playing, she'd turn her head around and look at me....with that stare, like saying, "is there something you need to tell me?" 😹
Yes!😹 After the first meow sound Jackson played my cat ran to the window looking for another cat.😹😹

(It’s impossible to describe the sound she made, but I can still imitate it perfectly after all these years!)
Thanks for sharing all of your cat knowledge with the world.
What if my cat , I've had since weened from it's mother, doesn't PURR???

If I whisper to my kitty Layla she "whisper meows" back at me. I absolutely am smitten with it.
my kitty is a polite weirdo and doesn't want to bother anyone when their sleeping but he likes cuddles so he will kind of whisper meow in your ear to ask if you're awake for cuddles!

I had a cat who would go to the hallway, and begin howling. This was always followed followed by a tornado in the area. The howls started way before the sirens would go off. When she did that we would all pack up and go to the basement (with her of course). Thanks Jackson for sharing your knowledge and helping animals.
Wow what a cat! Everyone who lives in tornado alley needs a cat like yours!
She was sensitive to the change in barometric pressure, then. Good thing you figured it out and heeded her early warning system.
That's amazing wow
Cats are amazing! Glad you guys were smart enough to listen to her.
He also meows in response when I 'meow' songs to him, like the Star Wars theme or Beethoven's 5th (I can't believe I do that lol, but he loves it!)
Harry was a bottle-baby kitty, & had absolute reliance on us.
my cat makes the mrrp sound too!! so cute
That's how to spell it! Mrrp - that was my cat's trill.
I love that sound ❤
If the cat's trill doesn't end in a definite stop, it can be spelled mrrm.
The cat start-up noise 😊

I've had my cat Chilly for 3.5 years, and I have only *once* heard her hiss. That was during a vet visit where we ended up with a rather incompetent vet, and after Chilly had been stung in the leg with a needle 4 times without successfully drawing the blood sample, she had had enough and hissed. Very reasonable if you ask me.
Totally!
One of my cats has never hissed and has only growled in her sleep once
My cat only hisses when she's not feeling well 😖
My year old male does the trill a lot even before we got his baby brother and I used to worry if it was because he was unhappy or fed up but if it's considered a positive thing that has given me peace of mind ❤ I have heard a cat make the same sound of a seagull and the seagull nearly fell for it and that really shocked me 😂
This show reminded me of the 6 month old feral cat tom I brought home from the pet crematorium when we went to get our 18 yr old cat's ashes.
Hello Joanna how’s the weather over there
Awww lovely story did he keep meowing
Hello Joanna how’s the weather over there
@@amazingabby25 yes he did, for 15 glorious years.
Awesome story!👍🏾👏🏼🤭🥸😸😹

My young girl cat does the same thing. If I walk around the corner and she's surprised to see me, she does a little trill. It's so adorable!
Yup. My old tom did this, too, right before he jumped on me to knead and purr. Always a friendly chirp. His heir to the throne did it as a "hello", too - and whenever I hissed at him when he scratched my chairs he gave me some downwards chirp, then, and it sounded like: "Kiss my hairy butt, I'll do it anyway!"
same with my nemo
Yes!! I feel like sometimes they do it when they're surprised!!
My Birman boy says “maaaaam, maaaam” lol. It’s very cute.
When my cat wants to come in , she sounds like she’s calling “hel lo, hel lo” in quite a loud and deeper than her usual meows. She was spade when a kitten, and she’s been shouting hello to be let in for years (she’s 14 years old now). Love her small meows and prps when we talk to each other.
wow Luna says that too Mamma lol xxx

A week ago I adopted two sisters, 7 months old, and both of them vocalize when they walk into a room as if they're announcing themselves. They're so cute.
My sisters call one another from upstairs to downstairs or vice versa. It’s so cute. One meows and the other one will get up and run to see her sister. ❤
They are talking between themselves like a chat lol
That's wonderful. Our cat would do the same when she would go to her feeding station too. That's what I called her food and water dishes. I called it her little feeding station that was only hers. LOL
Mine does a small "Prurururew"
Its not a meow, it's not a purr, but should have a name, at home we say "pruroo"
Lol I live with a cat who announces every time he’s done going the bathroom or eating with a deep rrrrreeow
So whenever I tell my cat to get off the counter, her chattering means she's thinking about killing me... Great

Yes, if you talk to kitty, kitty talks back.

I'm trying to teach my little girl kitty to do that
Both my cats do the same. Romie will actually return the toy by jumping on the bed with it in his mouth. I don't even have to get up. I just throw it and he brings it back, for 30 minutes at a time, several times a day. EVERY time I sit on the toilet, IT'S PLAYTIME!!! 😅
I still don't know how every cat I've ever met has precisely the same "I'm in a cat carrier and want out" yowl. Every. Single. One.
@@patmaurer8541 Oh wow that's interesting lol XD
My daughter's cat walks right into his carrier, doesn't mind it at all
Sometimes, when I'd take both cats to the vet, they'd start crying in unison. Like every 10 seconds, they'd meow on cue.
my cat just ignored the female in heat but instantly approached me hearing him imitating the sound
My cat did that after she lost her feline companion and you're right, it's the most heartbreaking sound ever.
This human Maggie approves ;)
My mom told me that after my dad died, their cat, Lady, would wander around their home yowling softly.
well just made a comment about my male cat, and it was the same when we suddenly lost our shih tzu he grew up with, played with, and snuggled with. She was 3 at the time and died because of an auto immune attack.
Maggie was lucky to have such caring guardians like you.
My kitty will lay on her back or her side and stare at me and flick her paws until she gets a belly rub😂! when it's late at night or early in the morning she will whisper meow when she wants something, it's almost like she knows. it's quiet time.😂 she is a character and I love her very much!
My cat makes the chattering sound every time I sneeze. It's like she is scolding me for disturbing the peace.
My girly yowls when I sneeze, she's like "Mom! Why'd you make that loud noise?! I was asleep." LOL.
Mine too bahaha!
😂😂😂
How cute hahaha 🥰
i have seen that!
Yes my cats did and I had to say iam here and the would come to my room
my male cat does that too if he cant find anyone he also does it very loud
Thtas exaclty what my cat does, whith the toy in his mouth. Sterilised and male cat. Why does he do that :/ Some times it grapples on my foot like i'm leave somewhere and kind makes me sad like he is in pain or smthing :(
We had a cat that made the same vocalization after anyone sneezed. It was a variety of sounds & only made that sound when he heard a sneeze. He blessed us for 15 years. He was a part Burmese & domestic short hair. Love you, Maxie.❤️😻
my cat velvet chirps at me when i sneeze or make a high pitched noise :3 cats are so unique
I have two 1 yr old kitten sisters, they are both only vocal when they want to play, when food is coming, and when someone sneezes 😆
My cat meows every time I sneeze, I always tell her thank you. I pretend like she’s saying bless you lol.
@@meganrobison272 haha that’s great 👍🏼
@@teddytiger2012 my Siamese girl also does that when I sneeze.
She has me well trained.
aww
@@Nari_Trovi thanks. Shes a 10 year old I adopted from the shelter about 2 montbs ago so I'm still discovering her personality as we encounter new experiences together.
” mumMUM, watch me zoom! ”
Bengal? hahaha
My calico used to chitter whenever I sneezed
Mine is the same he is constantly talking to me, he also shouts at rainstorms and when they don’t stop he comes and complains to me

YMMV.

True! Cats rarely have jobs. Cats have hoomans to work for THEM😸😻
Dogs have almost double the neurons than cats lol I’m sorry but cats are dumb as hell
My cat don't purr
And I thank you for my new mantra: Play with your cat, play with your cat, play with your cat! It works!
@Pamela Blackshire sometimes it's veryvery soft
Listen, put ear near the cat
Mine did too when he was about to throw up a hairball sometimes. It almost sounds like loud, high pitched scream. It sounded traumatic.
One of my cats does the exact same thing!!
@ LuLu, 😆😆😆 yep!
My cat gags really loud before puking so I run to get the paper towels so he pukes on those instead of the floor.
My boy McHiss did the same. It was sooooooo pitiful. And loud, every time I heard it I would run for the paper towels. The poor love, I miss him so.
My cat uses trills in a lot of ways. He does it as a greeting when I come home, as a sort of "thanks" when I feed him, and also if I give him the 'love blink' he sometimes trills to me then snuggles himself right into me.
Mine always does it when he wakes up from a nap, no matter the time ill always say good morning and he will trill back at me 😍
Mine does it no matter what I do to her, she does it running into my room lol it's funny
I love how he says "why do WE purr" instead of "why do THEY purr" *teeheehehehe* /cute
I caught that too 😆

He’s a cat in human disguise !!
My cat tends to trill a lot. She goes "murrph?" and its the sweetest thing. Sometimes it turns into a yowl or meow at the end.
Mine are always trills into a meow...just drilling and chirping. It's ridiculous. They only meow when they're mad I'm not giving them more wet food or if they can't find me (when they WANT to find me)
You have been trained well... Think of yourself as a big treat machine
@@maureenseel118 My cat does that too when he cant find me
I appreciate that you hit the nail on the head with "they are forever infantilized" by us responding to their meows. An interesting point to keep in mind when dealing with the animalhood of cats. Ferals, neighborhood cats, and indoor cats are not one in the same, and we should not expect them to behave the same.
We are, afterall, their butlers. 😸🥸🤭
Neighborhood cats are a pretty prime existence.
That’s a good point
Look at the comment below by Joanna. They learn!!
I rescued a cat and I've never had a cat before. She makes the sweetest sounds and is the best pet I've ever had. I learn a lot from you Jackson!
Rescue cats are just the best! Our girl makes us smile every day, we love her to bits!
Bless you for rescuing a cat xx
I rescued cat also, she was lost and hungry when I found her, and she stays with us. She makes me happy, when I feel sick, she come to me and talk to me.. stay with me.

Me too I be like “ u such a sweet girl I love u so much “🥺🥺.
Thanks!
We often get cockroaches in our home and my cat will do this "warning" noise to call us. She knows that we give her treats every time she finds a roach and helps us find it and get rid of it. It's like this low-guttural half-meow. I know exactly what it means whenever I hear it.
that's so cool!
when I was living on campus during college, our building had a roach problem and my cat wouldn't always make a noise but he would ALWAYS have the same body language of "whoa moving critter must catch" but clearly somewhat hesitant as if he was disgusted by it too. conflicted predator response. that made finding them much less shocking. he's a good boy.
So sweet. My boy patrols the house at night. And I can tell when he looks suspicious, then I will see something on my camera. It’s amazing how he knows.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh! Roaches!
The sound seems like the purpose is for trying to get someone's attention (a cat or a human) because they need assistance with something they can't do on their own.
agree, same thing with my cat. only does that when she wants to go outside while i am in a different room
Lol Mini is a mega-Karen 😂😂😂
Same, my spayed cat does the same when she wants fed.
Mine spade did when she wanted in a room or couldn’t find us.
LOL Dogs have owners...cats have staff.
Did you nickname her Karen? lol

It’s also my favorite sound! My roommates cat does it all the time. Sometimes I make the sound back at her.
Our little Tudy Fruit does that sound a lot too it is just so cute.
My cat does it when she wants my attention and love. It means, "Don't you see me standing here, with my head next to yours? Yes, I know you're asleep but you need to pet me now!"
I had a male cat that would greet me at the door with a trill when I came home. Miss him 😢❤
Or when she’s in heat 😩
This makes me happy! My new rescued cat likes to watch me sleep and does a trill when I wake up! I think she’s saying “good morning!” 🥰 🥰🥰
Same with my sweet boy, Grayson. He doesn't leave my bed for the whole night and snuggles close and watches me until he falls asleep 🥰
Whether it's "Good morning!" or "Oh, good, you're awake!" it's still special, isn't it?

My cat is a maine coon mix and he is very vocal. He mostly directs them towards me(all friendly vocalizations). He also does the purr-meow 😻

My cats (both of them, mother and son) - use the purr-Meow sound when they notice me doing somehing while they were napping. they are both wery curious cats, and I interpret that sound as - what are you up to again, human? :D
Same thing with my Siberian cat. Sometimes I think that his vocabulary is much more advanced than mine. 😀
@@lindamazule2289 YES! Mine does this too. Like a 'mildly surprised but also interested' sound - almost like a 'huh, what?' He uses trills and small meows to greet me and this is like the sleepier version of that.
My neutered male cat makes that caterwaul sound. Usually when he’s in a different room and it stops when I say “Henry, I’m here”
My male neutered cat does it when my husband leaves the house. I’m guessing it’s way of saying he’s sad he’s left him.

I love it when my cat Trills. It is usually when she's curled up just noticed me and kind of saying, 'oh hi'.
I was watching this video in bed while my cat laid on the floor and the moment the video played the cat chirp/trill, she responded with her own trill and jumped up on the bed for some attention. ❤
I’d like Jackson to do a program on how cats grieve, what happens to one cat when other cats in the household die or disappear.
Yes

I’m certain my cat thinks I’m idiot for repeating his meows.
My kitten runs to me from two rooms over when I imitate his high pitched meows
Hahaha my 9 month old is a squeaker, she gets real confused if I squeak back at her 😅
LOL! I carry have full on conversations with my cat. Meow. Meowow Mmmmmmeow. Meeeeow.
I do the same thing ....she just looks at me funny
I do the same 😊
my cat makes a soft tiny meow when he wants treats, as if he's so pityful and starving and needs a treat to survive....
Needs a treat to survive god it's so funny because it's too true. They really do that.
😆👍

Our girl cat started chirping/trilling *a lot* all of a sudden recently. We were wondering if something was wrong. Everything seems fine with her, but we were still contemplating calling the vet. Glad to know that it's nothing though.
