"Assuming the crime was committed in the United States and the perpetrator was not armed or violent, a theft of low-cost items like chips and candy would typically be classified as petty theft (also known as petty larceny in some jurisdictions), which is a misdemeanor in most states. Petty theft generally includes the theft of items valued at less than a certain amount, often $500 or $1,000, but the threshold can vary by state. For a first offense, petty theft is often punishable by a fine, probation, and/or a relatively short jail sentence - typically less than a year. However, if the individual has previous convictions, especially for similar offenses, the penalties could be more severe. Some states have laws that increase penalties for repeat offenders. Inability to pay was exactly how people used to become slaves in the past (I mean one of the paths to slavery). Weird that it is still going on. Absolutely have to be stopped in 21st century.
Government shouldnt encourage not paying debt of course, but shouldnt jail either. Some other smarter way should be used for punishment.
Huh I might need to go to jail
Wait..there isn't phones and internet there...nvm
Plus in the event of the worst happening you can form bonds in the prison and if the system Falls you have yourself an army and a fortress
I live in an apartment. My home is 74F/23C. Electricity and gas total is $80.
Either this or the military, you get paid and essentials (housing, food, etc.) are taken care of, plus most of the luxuries of a normal life (after basic of course). Yeah you have to work but hey the money is all yours to keep, I think its a fair trade. You might even get to travel to a nice place. Especially if you go into an easier branch like the chairforce lmao.
