Ai ga Tarinaize from Virtua Fighter's second OP might be fun. It's a good old rock 'n' roll piece that really gets your blood pumping and ignites your fighting spirit! Plus, it's sung by the composer of Daytona USA, Takenobu Mitsuyoshi. Although, good luck trying to find a rip of the actual OP. TMS keeps taking uploads of it down. (Although, Discotek has an upload of it on their Tw*tter.)

@@Christopher._Mup. Hard to buy that they needed a larger studio for 4 when the animation budget for that season was utterly wasted. All the effort went into incredibly vibrant backgrounds for the dialogue scenes and almost nothing reserved for the action scenes.
I wonder how MAPPA got the job with such a fundamental misunderstanding of why Attack on Titan works as an anime. The great dialogue lifted from the manga is enough to carry the dialogue scenes. The reason people fell in love with the anime is because the action scenes fulfilled all the promises of the awesome dialogue. Stilted action is not a worthwhile price to pay for dynamic visuals over plain conversation

The composition is great, but the arranging really takes this whole thing to another level. The maximalist approach really portrays how intense and melodramatic the show is, and the horns and choral elements compliment the German/European aesthetic. I think the second opening leans into that more, but it's stunning just how well this first opening fits the show top to bottom.

The motion is essentially the same, yes but when it's played for the second time, the 5th note of the sequence is actually a semitone higher. You got it right for the next part though (before the widdly diddly bit haha). My ear just picked up on the off note and I just thought I should say something lol.

The composer of Attack on Titan music also did music on a Japanese RPG for the DS called Bravely Default before AoT, with the same "band" project, and it took me like 10 years to understand that, despite how similar both OSTs sound
And yeah, Bravely Default OST has definitely tons of interesting things going on to it too, especially "Serpent eating the ground", the final boss track that somehow mixes ultra distorted guitars, accordion and japanese flute solos, full choirs and epic blazing trumpets (mainly because he quotes a ton of themes from the rest of the game in this music, and also because the music matches what happens in the boss fight). If you think about it, the music is made like the anime, like how everyone's always swinging and launching themselves again and again and moving from one Titan to the next, so is the music and the way it keeps the chords n keys moving

Man, Revo (Linked Horizon) is such a great and talented composer. You know the song is going to be a banger when Revo is amongst its writer/composer. The 4 opening songs for AOT were all incorporated and connected like a story. That's the beauty of AOT (S1-S3) openings.
Listen to Moon Pride from Sailor Moon Crystal, he also written it❤

The soundtrack as a whole is so cool in a stylistic sense too.
These theme songs (by Linked Horizon) and the title track (by Hiroyuki Sawano) are in a symphonic metal style, which combines these epic arrangements with the POWERFUL sounds you get from rock instruments.
AOT is one of the few examples of symphonic metal in a soundtrack that I know of and it should be done way more imo.

I also love how the first opening is in German, not just Japanese. I only mention this because most openings are in Japanese, only going to English for some of the dubbed anime. Some openings were originally Korean before being translated and sung in Japanese.
One example I can think of are the Opening and Ending for Tower of God. Stray Kids wrote three versions of TOP (Opening) and SLUMP (Ending): the original Korean version, the Japanese version for the subbed anime, and the English version for the dub. All of the versions are amazing, by the way, so you should definitely check the songs out.
Anyway, Attack on Titan is the ONLY anime I know of that has German lines in its openings, and I think that's cool.

Lol about half of AoT's openings contain German and the other half are English. I always wondered why so many English lyrics were used for Attack on Titan.
I assumed Linked Horizon is a reference to the fusion of German and Japanese

It's a Japanese manga and an anime produced in Japan, so it's impossible for it to be written in Korean and changed to Japanese. Japanese and German from the beginning.

Im a hobby musician and i obsessed over trying to figure this song out by ear during the pandemic and im so hyped to see it broken down like this, i mean i dont get the terms used but now i kinda understand the theory on it, i was scratching my head before like why do these key changes work, theres so much of them!! I can "feel" a pattern, kinda "feel" the idea and theory behind the key changes but all i am is self taught so i can only be happy that i can sort of figure out the song but not really.
Thank you for doing these with anime music and japanese music in general. Ive been loving these since the jojos and thunderbolt and really look forward to more. Cheers!
