I've fancied getting a Plasma Pedal for a while, both because it looks amazing and I really like the sound. However, now I've heard that story about the founders, I REALLY want that pedal. They sound like my kind of people and they deserve all the encouragement and aupport in the world.
I love these types of videos! I know if I was looking to get a certain pedal, I would click on your video first! The sound of the pedal combined with your playing always sounds great! :)
A normal distortion/OD pedal works by amplifying your signal (via. FETs, MOSFETs, ICs as in the case of the rat, or Opamps in the case of everything else) then generates clipping by sending you signal through diodes (LEDs in some, Silicon in Tube Screamers, and Germanium in Klons), which cut off or "clips" the signal at a certain voltage, generating your distortion sound.
Really cool stuff, Sammy G! I just can't get into fuzzes, man... I've tried, and maybe there'll come a day when a fuzz will be just the thing I need for a certain song or part, but I just don't have a practical everyday use for 'em... But then you bring up something like the zvex wooly mammoth, which looks kinda normal, yet the only time I've heard a usable tone come out of one is on a Billy Talent song
