Great video. Keep mentioning the heat. The most trouble I ever got myself into was dragging a buck out by myself on one of those WMA's where you have to bring the deer in whole. I have a ton of swamp experience, but NEVER too old to learn. Thanks for what your doing !!!
Reminds me when I was younger I've only been lost one time and that was green swamp east wma I litterly was mentally preparin to spend the night out there b4 I found my way out lol good content.
@hatemoutdoors2556 I didn't put it in the video but I get pinched nerves in my back and have to lay down till it eases up so I'm always prepared to spend the night in the woods because I never know when it'll happen.
I fish offshore a lot, so I bought a Garmin Inreach. $14 a month and it has an SOS button that will bring rescue services. I use it when hunting solo or going into sketchy/deep areas. I leave a "float plan" with the wife or friends or whatever so they know the general area. You can also send texts, albeit somewhat inefficiently, with the inreach to let people know you'll be late if something comes up but you're still safe.
If you download your offline map and set a waypoint at your parking spot you can use your tracker to help put you in the right direction. I’ve had to do that a couple times.
@kylem.4151 yeah that works in most places, I have offline maps for everywhere but if you don't track yourself it doesn't help with crossing bogs or finding the logs to cross on and things like that so in those rough area's I recommend having a track.
I moved to Central Florida from the once great state of Virginia and I'm not used to gators and snakes. How do you know when deep dark water isn't a threat for gators? I'm all about going hard, but I want to be smart about it since I've got a wife and kids to come home to. Thanks!
@bobby4116 I'd pretty much assume most any deeper water has gators, I'm careful around game trail crossings cause gators will lay there waiting, other than that I don't worry about it too much other than drought years when they are aggressive over territory. Coming and going in the deeper swamps in the dark I'll see abunch cause they eyes shine but daylight they are like any other animal they try to avoid humans most of the time.
I had bad heat exhastionn on a charter boat working as a deck hand. I wouldnt have been able to do much, curled up in the wheelhouse in a full body cramp, puking. Didn't get better until I got the hospital and got IV saline. A bag of saline and some flobotomy equipment would be a life saver if you could stick yourself.
@Steve-ev6vx I have a buddy that carries a bag with him to do the IV like that. I've seen him do it but I've never been that bad and don't wanna be either.
Good tip! I never use my tracker becuz it eats my phone battery! I also hit a log in my surface drive miles back in a flooded ditch and almost drowned with hip boots when I got thrown out ! Gun slung around my neck choking me , water flowing 10 mph from a flood ! When I finally grabbed a branch and got myself to the Bank I was throwing up water for 3 min! Very scary!
I will never go deep in the swamp again bc of this story. I met a guy on Facebook at a WMA and we took off in the swamp. I'm heavy and so I sunk down in the mud to my butt, I could not get out. That guy I met had to pull me out numerous times, I was at his mercy. All I could think of was God I hope he isn't a serial killer. I shared your channel with my friend, and I told him I will sit on transitions, but I ain't never going 5 miles in lol.
@newperspective1318 I get what you're saying but there is a technique to walking through mud and not sinking in it. You could practice and learn how. The guys I take that have never done it are constantly sinking up to their butt the first trip while I'm ankle deep, but if they listen to me I get them through lol
@SurvivalSavvvy you can run offline maps and track yourself with these apps. It was tough hunting where I'm at for years with just a compass, I'm able to do alot more since these apps came out.

Good advice. I hunt public in the panhandle so a lot of this applies!
Banana bag electrolyte packs work great for staying hydrated, i drink on everytime before hitting the marsh
@Floutlaw87 never heard of it. I'll check it out, thanks for the tip.
@@Dereknorwoodoutdoors a doctor in Satellite Beach invented them, they work wonders
Good reminder to tighten up on some things I’ve gotten lazy about

@user-sp9hy8tq4j that's an awful feeling, I don't think most hunters think about it. Glad you made it out alright.

I have always used a compass. Where I go cell phones are useless. No bogs here in tn thank god. I would hate to be walking in mud that would kill me
