    oh cool. my newbie friend was asking for my telemetry like it would help him at all, and instead i found this series for him to learn the basics. but this seems so awesome i'll be taking a refresher course too :P
    right now i'm about 4 seconds a lap faster than him in most categories. let's see how quickly he improves.

    The reason the white line is the "most efficient" is because it has the least amount of bend of the three curves. The curve with the least dramatic bend yields a higher speed throughout the turn.

    • @FelixPfaltermann
      @FelixPfaltermann 10 лет назад

      didn't you listen when the guy talked about the radius equals speed equation? The bigger circle will yield faster speeds. Thus, there is a flatter slope/curve. How do you not get this?When you start from the turn in and hit the apex, you essentially cut out the sharp turn you will have to take. Thus, your steering wheel will not turn as many degrees than hugging the inside or outside, or even a semi-apex as I like to call it.

    • @FelixPfaltermann
      @FelixPfaltermann 10 лет назад

      bigtopbollocks Holy hell, you really don't get it, do you? Wow! Of course each angle of approach will equal a 90 degree turn, but in order to maintain the highest speed, your slope has to be the least steep. Imagine it is a straw, and you have to put it 90 degrees and still be able to drink out of it. If you still don't get it, you should never get on a racetrack- ever.

    • @FelixPfaltermann
      @FelixPfaltermann 10 лет назад

      bigtopbollocks No matter what I say and no matter how silly you look, you must always be correct- eventhough you are not. I feel sorry for your wife (if you are married). Being stuck with someone like you would probably be like a lifetime prison sentence.

    Racing on an oval is actually one of the hardest ways to race believe or not... it's not fun to watch at all, but I must give credit where credit is due.

  • @FinnFinley
    @FinnFinley 11 лет назад +2

    XMalonyX Unfortunately, I don't think there is one master equation. Or if their is, it'd be quite long. This would be calculated based on the different measures of the track. The angle of the pavement relative to the ground, the temperature of the air and track, the coefficient of friction of those tires (Not to mention the tires will be traveling at different speeds), the power being applied, the body roll (body acceleration) of the car, drag and so many other things. If you were to assume the objects were all more stable/simple it could be solved intuitively with some kinematics and conservation of energy. Take a calculus based physics course if you want to start understanding some of that.

    • @FinnFinley
      @FinnFinley 11 лет назад

      Or I suppose even you could simplify it to just the turn itself, without the car in it. And find the geometric shapes that would give the quickest results. But, I don't think it'd be that simple.

    • @yammmit
      @yammmit 7 лет назад

      FinnFinley there*

  • @FriendlyCroock
    @FriendlyCroock 7 лет назад

    The apex and the track-out destination really depends on the car you're driving.
    The only thing that all have in common is the turn-in point where every car and every bike and every class and type of motor racing will have to touch the same marker when entering a corner .

  • @BroadcastBro
    @BroadcastBro 7 лет назад +1

    It's not about the radius, but rather its rate of change.

  • @mozzmann
    @mozzmann 10 лет назад +1

    And all of this is pointless if your Race Wheel for the PC is not set up correctly, so that you don't create over steer by running much too low a degrees of rotation and compensating this with Steering Lock in car set-up, this will have a HUGE effect on drive-ability and driver performance.

    Great video, but saying apex is the “bottom of a corner” isn’t accurate. We always defined it as “the point from which you start to unwind your hands, leading to the exit of the corner. “
