MASTERPIECE! It's 2020 and I'm 47 now. Killing Joke changed my life when I watched Love Like Blood video in a b&w TV when I was a 12-year old kid. I love this band from my heart. Touches me. Always! Love you guys!
I'm in this video somewhere. Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow. RIP Geordie... can't think of a bigger influence on me as a guitarist, you were the greatest. Makes me eternally sad we'll never see a live show again.
I'm 52 and an 80's child. Killing Joke was a great band to listen to when partying. This is an awesome song that I can listen to over and over. Long live KJ!
I saw them live in The Netherlands in the early 80's. Most intense and loud gig i ever attended. It was a rather small venue and the sound almost blew one out of the place. Jaz was hypnotic, the others stoïc and brutally driven. At times you would wish for Geordie to stop his chainsaw to scream. Years later they recorded Love Like Blood which was like a lullabye compared to most of their songs. I liked it a lot though. Some of my favourites : The Hum (from Revelations album) Pssyche (from live album "HA") It's amazing how they still have this energy and survived the decades and all the BS from todays music crap. I only recently heard Pylon which i like a lot. I'm almost 60 now and KJ will be on my speakers a lot again. Amazing band.
Keep hammering them out. Your style of darkening melodies haunt me in all fantastic ways. You are the all time greatest alt rock act and still hardcore to the key.
There is something sinister, yet, calmly soothing about this track. I cannot get enough of it. Love that dark vibe to it. The chorus is freaking seductive. "And then the clouds break, A ray of sunlight, Gloria! As if a promise, Some strange kind of Euphoria!"
'Dark phantoms of the past, some things are best forgotten, like Orpheus don't look back, best years are waiting for you' has got to be one of the most powerful and optimistic verses ever. Always sends chills through me, almost like an act of magick in itself.
I've just come across these as I inherited a large amount of CDs off my uncle. He used to be heavily involved in the music scene. In charge of promotions at Royal Albert Hall at one point. I can't believe I have never ever heard this band until today. Wow. Absolutely unreal.
I did not expect this to be a Killing Joke day, but I'm so glad it did. It all started with "I Am the Virus" and then I listed to "Complications," as song a band I was in back in the early 80's covered. Fire Dances is my fave KJ album.
Alex Stone had the privilege to shake jaz Coleman's hand in a Jersey shore concert in 1996 stone pony!since there inception I've listened KJ never disappoints!
Killing Joke helped me thru my senior year in high school (Night Time) album '85. Geordie's guitar and Jaz on the vocals helped me fall asleep. RIP Geordie!!!
Overcast, the branches bare The autumn leaves have fallen I can hear the magpies laugh I can't shake this melancholy And then the cloud breaks A ray of sunlight - Gloria! As if a promise Some strange kind of euphoria Dark phantoms of the past Some things are best forgotten Like Orpheus, don't look back The best years are waiting for you And then the cloud breaks A ray of sunlight - Gloria! As if a promise. Some strange kind of euphoria And then the clouds break A ray of sunlight Gloria! As if a promise Some strange kind of euphoria And in the darkness A ray of sunlight Gloria! As if a promise Some strange kind of euphoria Euphoria Euphoria Euphoria
I COMPLETELY AGREE with the Imaginary Suitcase......."kicking butts since 1979 & NEVER giving in or NEVER giving up". This band is SOOOO UNDERATED & do NOT get the credit they dezerve in my book.......AWESOME BAND........"KILLING JOKE" !!!!!!!!!
the band received the "Innovator Award" at the 2010 Classic Rock Roll of Honour; the award was presented to Killing Joke by Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, who stated, "I go back a long way with Jaz Coleman and the band. I used to go and see the band, and it was a band that really impressed me because Geordie's guitar sound was just really, really strong. And they were really tribal, the band, and it was really intense. It was just really good to hear something like that during the 80s, which sort of caved in a bit with haircuts and synthesizers"
Okay, at this point I'm REALLY disappointed in myself for never having heard of these guys sooner in life. They feel like punk's best kept secret to me, because I've known A LOT of punk guys growing up and not once have I ever heard Killing Joke ever be mentioned once. I really hope a lot more musicians and people alike discover them like I did, because this is the sort of energy we need a lot more of.
I think you are right. They try to change this world for about 40 years and there message is still clear. Never give up because your enemy isn't doing it either.
You Brits are the fucking best at amazing music like this. Quite honestly must be some kind of magic fron the weather cause no one ever made better Goth music in the entire globe, and I reckon no one ever shall good sir.
Because they mean it; they've always channeled a vicious part of themselves through the music from the very beginning; Jaz is on a vid somewhere recent saying if not for KJ they (Jaz & Big Paul) would've become not even just criminals, but killers, murderers. I forget which word he used.
fantastic song! i'm 55 and only got into them about a month ago as well as many post punk bands- better late than never and has opened up a whole new world for me!!
There is no words for that how deep, mystical and blessed this music is. (-even with the menacing, terrifying lyrics) As the heavenly fanfares opening the gate of the Sun... 🌞 Frenetic.
The amount of hours I've spent listening to killing Joke in my 50 years is innumerable. With the death of Geordie it feels like the likely death of Killing Joke. What a massive loss. RIP Geordie Walker
This is an incredible tune! I love 'stumbling' onto, as I call them, hidden gems like this. At 57 and being from Maine, just heard these guys for the first time in 2020! Man, have I missed out!
Killing Joke aging like a fine wine! Been a fan since Requiem, love everything they've made. Funny thing, I was doing yardwork today and found myself humming "Turn to red"...fan forever LOL!!!
I always come back here to remember my Dad who passed away in 2016. When this song along with the album came out, he asked me to download it for him and he loved this song in particular because it sounded like classic KJ to him.
Amazing band. I remember hearing 80's as a child and being completely blown away. Love Killing Joke!! Can't wait to see them open for Tool in a few weeks.
word, I never heard them in my life. I met their music 6 months ago and I can easily say that are the BEST alternative PUNK ever(if i can use that term)
Requiem, the first song on the first album was always my favourite KJ song for over 30 years. In the '90's, Millenium was a close second. Then... Euphoria showed up 35 years later. It's the new Requiem! Bit of a shame old bands can still make better music than what this younger generation puts out now.
Check out a band called Ozric Tentacles. They are less dark and industrial sounding, but they share the trance meets rock approach with Killing Joke. "Pungent Effulgent" is the album to start with!
This song is stuck in my head. Always liked killing joke but haven't got on some of the new stuff till last few weeks . They really haven't made a bad record, and when you hear them, you know who it is, yet the songs are all different. Wonder how they went over with tool fans, opening for them.
ive been a friend and fanboy of killing joke for 40+ years now and i love them as much now as i did in 80- fucking brilliant band and awesome people-- raven- rip my friend
It thrills me to see a band so contentious, shunned, and all too often ignored continue to release killer music and devastating live performances over 40 years into their career.
Excellent and thoughtful comment ..given the chaos and politicaluncertainty of our age..we imagined it in the early 1980 's in Britain listening to this music .
This is a typical type of song where my amplifier should have a no limit on the volume knob. PLAY LOUD and on repeat. This band is legend. Geordie is one of my guitar hero. long live to KJ
Rest in Peace, Geordie. You had a huge influence on me as a musician.
Really gonna miss the unmistakable sound of that big old epitone
Agree. Does anyone know what happened to hGeordie's iconic guitar? Who has it today? I'd love to know.
On all of us.
Long live to Killing Joke legacy. May the new generations have the taste to appreciate it. Rest in peace, Geordie
❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥always
Every album, every song, composed and sang with desperate passion. Never lost their edge.
Beautifully said.
The kind of track that makes you sentimental the first time you hear it lol.
RIP Geordie Walker (December 18, 1958 - November 26, 2023), aged 64
You will be remembered as a legend.
The chorus is so addictive. Such a sense of longing & hope
The vibe of the song and the chorus is chilling. Once you hear it, you can't stop coming back.
Or perhaps euphoria!
RIP Geordie, thank you for all, i love you, love and peace for your family and friends
Top 5 band on Earth. Rarely is a band's music and lyrics so relevant for so long, timeless.
MASTERPIECE! It's 2020 and I'm 47 now. Killing Joke changed my life when I watched Love Like Blood video in a b&w TV when I was a 12-year old kid. I love this band from my heart. Touches me. Always! Love you guys!

Likewise 👍.. a big fan since 85 ... never get bored of their music .
Fan since 79...🍻✌
I follow KJ since their first note of REQUIEM... I will be 60 this year!!! I listen to it at loud in my car. They're wild!
I think the same, I have listened to this band since I was 13 years old and until now I listen to them and I continue, greetings!
You impress me a lot
This has to be my favorite KJ song. The sun is always brighter when I play it.
Killing Joke are like a seed. Little people see it but everyone sees its outcome from commercial groups that they affected.

KJ, kicking butts since 1979. And the butts beg for more. Thank you for never giving in. Thank you for never giving up.

So true
The Imaginary Suitcase I didn't realise they've been going for so long, brilliant!
And still 2018
The Imaginary Suitcase the ‘butts’ beg for more????? Freudian Nightmare

KJ can really cvreate a sense of chiaroscuro (sp?) in their songs.
Loved them in the 80's I ' am the virus its is getting loads of hits mad
@@samisatlacc7736 chiaroscuro is an italian word. It means clear and dark.
totally agree. Where are you from?
Agree
This song is basically a mantra.
Anyway, how could we even believe Killing Joke is not a band shrouded in spirituality when we hear their work ?
This sounds like early 80's Killing Joke. Impressive how they still have the passion and drive to go this hard after all these years!
'Dark phantoms of the past, some things are best forgotten, like Orpheus don't look back, best years are waiting for you' has got to be one of the most powerful and optimistic verses ever. Always sends chills through me, almost like an act of magick in itself.
Damn right, Bruv!
That locomotive driving beat defies description. This is what music should be in these days. Just fantastic guys, love you.
How great to re-discover KJ after 30 years. Impressed by their newer stuff. Brilliant
me too
Same with me, I loved them since their beginning around 1980 and than they created this song....many years later.
"Copy that!" !

Repose en paix Geordie ❤ Merci pour tous ces bons morceaux
If the world ends, this should be the last song played before the lights go out.
No more raucous nights like this in Glasgow Barrowlands. RIP Geordie and thank you for the music and the memories . . . .
Can't stop playing this track, it's just brilliant. Killing Joke at their finest.
RIP Geordie Walker, you surely will be missed!
Think ive got a new favourite band. Absolutely brilliant.
I love how versatile his vocals are. Melodic and harsh are seemless

Oh my god this song is monster. I can't help but to listen to it over and over again. Geordie is a guitar god.
Couldn't agree more - such a simple, yet indelible , riff. And I also cannot stop listening to its power.

someone hasnt heard early Killing joke .. this is tame :-)
Its like strings from the guitar are pulled through the spin and the soul and someone is playing on it! :)
Great
It's amazing that they're still that good. And it's now seven years later, and they STILL got it!!
Killing joke never gets old I've love them sence the beginning wow what a trip every album jazz is one great singer. Rip Raven.
There are quite a few masterpieces in a minor key. This may be the best of the best.
