Advice from a tall man: Attach something soft to the top edges of the low door frames. That way when you do bash your head it hurts a lot less 😅

Yes like cut pool noodles to cover the corners. You can paint them to disguise or exaggerate them at will 😁

@@balayanr That's great :) I don't think we have anything like that here in the UK :( but I've not looked properly in a while.
My 1DK apartment in Osaka, the door between the DK and the 1 was just a smidge too low. Whether or not I hit depended on what point of my stride I was in at the midpoint. When I moved out after two years, there was a noticeable grove in the frame.
I'd love to know how the estate agent explained it to the next tenant.

I don't know for sure but I think there are some appliances for doorways with soft materials to keep your head safe in case of bumps, I think you should check it out whenever you have time. Congratulations on your new apartment!

Girl it's expensive to live in Tokyo, move out to Kanagawa. We're in Southern Kanagawa, rent a 30 year old house attached to 4 others, backyard, 2LDK not far from the beach, AND a little over 90,000en. I want to move again whenever I get a full-time job the year after to get a bigger size and pay it at 100,000en max, or less. It's a nice apartment, but if you move away from the expensive spot and your job pays transport, you can get more bang for your yen.

the fact that the pipes are at the back of the kitchen cardboard rather in the centre is amazing. i need to put shelves on the wall so i can have more floor space and it also looks alot more tidy. awesome video thanks for showing us the process (:

If you have to give a month's notice use that time to slowly move things over instead of getting a moving company, except for the heaviest things. Then use a company for the heavy things.
You should also get Chris to use his car to help you move stuff since he ruined your segment of cycle across japan.

That's very Japanese tbh! And honestly, Japan is living in the future. A future where most countries haven't hit.
Nah, I think Japan is traveling back and forth between the past and the future. You'll get this feeling when you see fax machines and a bunch of other outdated things still being used. Coming from someone who's been living here for a couple of years.
This reheating feature is actually very common, even in less than futuristic (i.e. 40 year old) buildings.
FYI: That round metal thingy on the foot end, near the bottom is where the "automatic" water comes in, and this is also where the cold water get pumped from to get reheated.
Another FYI: That reheating feature usually requires the bath to be filled up to a certain point.
The thing in the closet is called a cabinet just a term to mean that it covers something up for example if it has AC duct work usually they are constructed to protect the duct. could be covering a water heater or any number of things. just to make sure you don't dent or break whatever is under it.
I'd get some rubber stoppers for the top of those doorframes, been there enough times, they are a must for a happy non contusioned forehead
Emma. I *TOTALLY* know how you've been feeling. I have been searching for a new apartment for 11 months. Eleven months. I also had a lot of requirements.
So i don't apply to a lot a month, but whenever i do apply i 9/10 not even get selected to go view the place. Cause there's just such a tough market now in Amsterdam.
But i finally, signed 2 days ago for my new apartment. It's brand newly built 3 months ago. Fiber internet, heated floors everywhere, brand new kitchen with a full set built-in appliances. Massive shower/bath area that's beautiful. It has this really cool layout. 2 walls have built-in storage cabinets.
I'm super excited to have it. It's just perfect. That feeling when it FINALLY, at long last COMES TOGETHER PERFECTLY? It's just omg. TMoving in Next Thursday on April 1st (no not an april fool's joke haha)

Soooo relatable, I just found the perfect place in Amsterdam. The wait for the viewing, paperwork and everything was so nerve wrecking. Haven’t been properly sleeping for over a week. And moving next week 😭🥰. Everything just clicked and worked out perfectly. So I feel you!

The joys of moving in Japan… Reminds me of the last time I was nearly heartbroken when the application for an apartment I liked so - very - much was declined by the owner, it’s a real emotional ride. Congratulations to your new place!

That lump in the closet is where they sealed in the previous owner. And I empathize with the door frame issues. I've been to two great apartments that I simply had to pass on because some doors were crazy low. Older apartments can be like that.

My husband grew up in an old Victorian house where he ended up too tall for his bedroom door. He got used to it but accidents still happened so please be careful! There's nothing worse then waking up, still being drowsy, an conking your head!
That being said I hope you get it and you can finally get some good sleep! Searching for a new place is so stressful no matter where you are. And I know in Japan it's extra pricey. Good luck !!!!!

for the low door frames, especially to the shower/bath, you could maybe attach a thin foam mat in white or a funky colour so IF you don't pay attention and hit your head it won't hurt as much? :D Congrats to your new home! It looks lovely.
Very interesting! I find that in America, bathroom doors tend to be a bit more narrow than the doors in the rest of the home, but it looks like there in Japan, the door to the bathroom is shorter than the other doors, but just as wide as the rest of the doorways.
Im only in the middle of the video but I really hope you get it. I really know what its like getting hyped for apartments online and imagining living there.
And here I am using a step stool to access my above sink cabinets lol(only 5’2” though). I did the same thing when I saw the washlet in my new Hitach-shi apartment. Washlet happy dance.

It sucks rent-wise but having an overlap with apts sometimes works really well, gives you more time to get out of the old place and get situated without as much stress. I always use this time to move stuff I don’t want to send with movers like art or computers, esp since where I live they will ask for additional insurance if you have these things for them to move (incl TVs)
Wait! So the mover will ask you to pay for "Insurance" so they don't happen to break stuff during the move? Isn't it the other way around?
@@knife-wieldingspidergod5059 Exactly. We had to buy special insurance for certain items if we wanted the movers to take them. Some movers just won't take those items at all, which seems fair enough - a lot of people probably claiming they messed up their tv and demanding they pay for a new one, or high value things that are easy to break - just not worth the risk for them

The low doorframes tho oh no lol, I live in a roof apt that is perfectly sized for small me (163cm) but for a lot of my friends and brother the door frames are too low too! I hope you can put something there to protect your head. Can't wait to see your plants thrive there

Have you considered the office as the bedroom, I think I’d do that if it was me moving in. You do you though, make it a home the way you want it x
I did have a very long think about it!
Mainly I spend more time and need more space in the office, with more controlled light. So with north facing it’s always bright but not too bright! And it’s larger so I can do more work stuff, whereas it would feel like a waste to just use that space to sleep.
It sucks the good storage is in there, but it fits my green screen perfectly so it’s easy access, and I guess the whole place is just for me so it doesn’t matter where my stuff is stored 😂
Basically I wanted small bright bedroom for bed and larger consistent lighting area for office 👌🏻
Also I like to lie in bed in the sun 😂 and with the office north facing no direct sun comes in hahaha

I'm happy for you. But I can't help but I foresee a moment of carelessness with a cup of hot coffee in your hand, looking at the ground for a second and BAM - bad headache, burnt hand and a mess on the floor.
You should ask friends to help you move over small things.. pack soft items(clothes, linens, etc) into reusable bags.. train/car over. Maybe a van for bigger things. Trade for future Emma home cookin' or some musical goodness. I moved my few possessions in 6 VW Beetle loads 😊🏠🪴☮️
