On the other hand, you no longer feel bad about complaining and being insistent about quick apartment fixes in the future. Because you are owed it for all that key money!
Japanese rent is insanely cheap compared to cities in America so it really isnt a rip off. they likely make the barrier to entry high bc every time a tenant moves out there are bigger costs so they bill accordingly and dont totally fūck you every month by having high rent. in America those costs are moved into monthly rent.
The intense joy at finally having certain creature comforts that seem normal for other people is such a mood. I also recently moved and just having your own kitchen with the surface area to be able to cut your veggies and stack dishes without having to do weird quantum puzzles is such an amazing feeling. Having a normal shower to yourself, having the space to store all your belongings and not have half your life stacked up in boxes... I can't remember the last time I felt so elated.
I'm self employed, and anytime I've mentioned it to a real estate agent, you would think, that had I told them that I make macaroni pictures in my spare room, when I'm actually a construction contractor 😑
It is technically not legal in Japan to specifically discriminate against foreigners on housing. The place I currently live had a "no foreigners" clause, but the realtor who I worked with was an awesome Japanese guy who basically said "that's bullshit, we're just going to ignore them". Shoutout to Aoyama-san!
There's no "technicality", it is illegal. There are Japanese laws against discrimination. It's something else though if the person doesn't speak Japanese or hasn't been in the country long enough to understand what is and what isn't ok to do. Like americans driving nails into the walls to hang stuff, like in their own country. jesus christ...
@@coolbones uhhhhhh idk about americans but most places you aren't able to drive nails into the walls with a rental unless you have explicit consent from the landlord + the lease to do so. Idk what you're trying to do with that comparison lmao.
The libertarian philosophy has an interesting opinion on discrimination. It shouldn't be forbidden. When you discriminate you limit your options, so you penalize yourself with your choice. If a landowner doesn't want foreigners, there you be fewer people able to rent the place, making it less easy to get a deal and earn the rent. While the place is empty the owner doesn't see the income. And let's not forget that the owner owns the place, it's his/hers to do whatever he/she wants. If the owner wants to leave the place empty, it's an option. If he/she wants to live there, it's another option. Nobody has a right to rent somebody else's place, if this somebody doesn't want you there. It sucks to be discriminated, but people have opinions and preferences, you just have to work with this.
Emma, from the bottom of my 💕heart💕, I am so proud of you for getting your dream apartment!!! So many months of searching, so much stress, a true testament to how far you've come with your Japanese lessons...just really really happy for you and hope you have settled in peacefully 😌
Hey Emma! Just wanted to say congratulations and well done, I am actually tearing up a little seeing how far you have come since you first came to Japan. You have been through countless stressful processes that would have stopped so many people and come out the other side in one piece, I can think of no one who has earned luxury life more than you have!!! please pat yourself on the back, and thank you for being an inspiration to those of us who are still a little too scared to make big changes, you are paving the way!!!!
Hey Emma, as a fellow sufferer of phone call anxiety, I have a tip for you in regards to this specific type of phone call, just write down everything important, like any important info you might anticipate you will be asked, have it safe in a notebook somewhere that you know you can grab and rattle off the answers to their questions.
I used to make sure I had all the important info I would need on a single page when I made phone calls at my last job. Do not want to fumble with a file when you're speaking to federal government agents 😅
I did exactly this the last time I moved an apartment, it helped tremendously. Only it caused another kind of anxiety, that is if I have the note on me all the time.
OMG so happy for you! I've lived in Europe and I completely understand the language and culture complexities. You're amazing for managing everything - make sure you tell yourself that, because it's true. I recently moved house in Adelaide and it was such an extended headache and anxiety generating experience... It took me a month to stop feeling like a scared cat and I even had some depression episodes. But you'll get there, and don't feel the need to apologise to the online world for being away dealing with your needs! 🙏🤩💞
I will wait patiently for the apartment tour 😊. Stress can really make you sick in all aspects. I am extremely glad that the present Emma looks healthier and happier than the recent past Emma. Stay safe and healthy and happy!
omg moving in JP seems like a nightmare. I moved from malaysia to singapore in 2019. just drove my car down one monday, parked at the HDB, viewed the apartment, and promptly moved in, paid 1 month's deposit in the same night, and then the next day drove my car back up to KL(to avoid SG's expensive tolls etc). it was a pretty tiring two days but watching this really gave me perspective and a newfound appreciation for how simple it was for me.
I'm so happy for you! I remember when you were in that tiny ass apartment and just seeing your journey to this beautiful place is just so inspiring! Emma, you seem genuinely happy about your life and it shows. Love you!
omg. can i just say i appreciate you so much for being willing to share just how freaked out you get sometimes? I just imagine (as a fully grown adult), how inept i would be navigating that sort of thing, and seeing even seasoned expat struggle makes me somehow better? though i am sorry for how much stress past Emma had to go thorough.
So happy for you! We've been on this journey with you since the tiny apartment and every new achievement of yours fills me with joy ❤️ It definitely feels like seeing a dear friend getting what they wanted and deserve. May you have many, many happy moments in your new place! 😀
Emma, I'm so happy for you! :) I've moved in with my partner into a new apartment a year ago after living at a shared flat for 7 years and I know very well the feeling of not being quite settled in. It can take up to a whole year to fully personalize the space but I've always loved that phase because it allowed me to start anew and get creative with the furnishing of the apartment. It's awesome when it starts to feel more and more like home :)
Oh I'm so happy for you, Emma! Can't wait for that apartment tour. But take as much time as you need to rest. You deserve all the wonderful things in life! 💕
Huzzah! Congratulations on getting the new apartment! I'm in similar feels, as my partner and I just got a new lease ourselves, and we are SO excited to deck the place out. Videos like this honestly give me so many creative ideas about what to do with a space!
I love love loooooove apartment and moving videos and I just found your videos of you moving from years ago and I am loving these so much!! Also I'm really happy that you eventually got approved for your dream apartment, and the apartment is in fact absolutely lovely!! I've been watching Japanese moving videos lately and it always seems so darn expensive and complicated to move in Japan with all the different expenses and different companies and what not. It is soooo different here in Finland. I have moved three times now (since living at my mom's, I'm in my twenties) and the process has always gone something like this: Find apartments online, message the landlord directly, set up a time with them to go look at the apartment, decide later if you want it or not (also when you meet with them at the apartment, they can also kinda decide if you are someone they want to rent to), if you decide to take the apartment, you sign a rental agreement and get your keys. Money wise, you only usually need to have a home insurance (for me and my partner for example this is really cheap too, around a hundred a year), and pay for one or two months of rent as a security deposit, which you get back when you move out if the place is in good condition still. Also rental apartments always come with the big appliances such as a fridge and an oven, often with a dishwasher and sometimes with a washing machine (but most often you bring your own washing machine). But yeah, no other payments or companies or stressful phone interviews, so this is just so so so interesting for me to watch!! I love hearing how these things work in different parts of the world!
Emma, you are SO relatable in this video and I have to say that I have been loving your content more. I have always been a fan of yours and Tokyo Creative, but your personal videos on your channel and become one of my favourites. I know it's a lot of work and you're definitely putting in so much effort so I'm very happy for you and we can't wait for that apartment tour soon!!
Your joy at not having to bend over to cut vegetables made me tear up. It's the little things that make you realize you made the right choice. My most recent move was financially and emotionally difficult - it wasn't my idea. The first month I just felt lost. There are a million good things about this apartment but I felt so displaced and lonely. On the day I had lived here a month, I got home from work and the words, "Hello, home" came out of my mouth and that nearly made me cry. It finally felt like home. After the trauma of moving you are finding things you love in your new space. I love that you have a view of trees and your plants have a beautiful outdoor spot to enjoy the sun and wind. I am so happy for you that you have this new home! I hope you quickly feel it is home for you and that you can be happy about everything it provides for you.
I've been watching your videos for years, just garbage about leaving comments haha, and I've watched you grow and upgrade through several apartments. I'm so proud of you!! You're doing so well for yourself and it makes me so happy to watch good people thrive. Keep up the good work, babe!
Ahhh, I'm so happy for you Emma. About 2 years ago, I moved from a very small (by UK standards) apartment and finally bought a house, and I had many of these kinds of feelings of "oh my god this is completely normal, but now I have it, and it's great!" I hope the new place is a start of lots of great new memories for you.
Ooh your balcony garden is lovely! Mulberry trees go wild where I live. Makes me appreciate them more seeing someone caring for a wee one at their home.
Oh my gosh this video is such a big relate! I feel you on moving into a place with "seemingly common" features from a place that just didn't. My place before my current house was suuuuuuper cheap (necessarily so at the time, student life etc.) and moving to place where the plumbing worked all the time, there was actual bench space, there wasn't a hole in the toilet floor and in the kitchen wall to let bugs in, was such a MASSIVE relief. Big congratulations to you Emma!
Wow Emma, I'm also currently in the process of moving (also on my own), what a coincidence! I feel you so much with the stress. These past few weeks my anxiety went through the roof. Constantly organizing appointments for the moving company and for furniture deliveries to the new place, while trying to remember all the paperwork I still need to do... All the while working full-time without being able to take some time off... I feel like crying half the time because it's just so much. It's gonna be over soon, tough, and seeing your video gave me hope that it will be all worth it! (Also, feel you on the expensive thing. The move itself is already so expensive but then there are so many appliances for the kitchen i still need to buy...it hurts) All the love from Germany!
Yeah, we make things harder for us in Germany with having to move an entire kitchen, or if you found a place with existing kitchen, but it's your first proper place you suddenly find out you need all that stuff you never thought about before.
@@CarinaCoffee exactly! For this apartment, there was no kitchen but it had really odd measurments, so i needed to buy a whole new one, including the appliances... I sometimes wish we did this like other countries do... I rarely hear someone complain when there's already a kitchen in an apartment but people always complain when there's none, so I wonder why we do this... it's a hassle for everyone. And if you really really want your own kind of kitchen then it's gonna cost you anyway, getting rid of an existing one won't be that much more expensive :(
@@LovelyDray but aren't unfurnished ones cheaper? It sucked at first, but than I'm really glad I got a kitchen after my own taste and since they're modular it's usually easy enough to move them. (Plus, sometimes the renter before you will sell theirs if it doesn't fir their new place). I feel like stone countertops are a thing people usually do in places where they own, not rent and the standard countertops for modular kitchens you can saw if you need to to fit them with the cabinets or if you need a new one they're not costing you the world. My friend moved last summer and her flat came with a kitchen, but there's only a single drawer, on the opposite side of the fridge and stove, so if you need a certain tool, you need to cross over to get it. It's not too far, but it would bother me in the long run. Things like that are more important to some people than others, so you get the choice for yourself.
Thanks for the update Emma! So happy that you finally moved into your dream apartment, your journey in Japan has truly been amazing! I hope you will be able to settle down soon in the new place ☺️
Oh god i feel the “stop talking to me!” Thing! I had to do an interview in German for a school program overseas and German is like... my 3rd language and my vocabulary is so rusty because I spent so much time learning the grammar that I forgot the rest 😭
Yaaaay Emma is back! So sorry you had to go through such a stressful situation, but now you're living the dream! I hope you can take some time to rest and take care of yourself for the next couple weeks as you settle in to your hard-earned apartment. Looking forward to seeing your lovely face soon
Best of luck. A tip from my experience is to pack an overnight bag and add other common household items like toilet paper and even some snacks. It will save you some stress on your first night at the new place. Nothing worse than looking for the box with your pajamas when it's 2am and you're exhausted.
"Stop talking to me! Why are you still talking to me? I don't want to talk to you anymore!" Totally feel this everytime I have to talk to almost anyone on the phone. lol Emma just embodies what the intorvert feels on the phone. xD Sexy fridge definitely equals luxury life. lol
OH this lovely video brings up so many memories In my twenties I moved to another continent and spent there 9 years. I moved 8 times in those 9 years... Good times! Thanks for reminding me. And, again, a great video Emma 😍
Emma, I've following your channel for some time now, I think ever since that viral video you made of your first place. And it's just been such a pleasure being able to witness how you've grown as a content creator and just as a person. Seeing how you thrive gives me hope for my own life and I wish you all the luck in the world with all your projects and endeavours moving forward. Can't wait for the apartment tour!
Yay!!! I’m so thrilled for you!! HUGE upgrade & I remember your first TINY apt you had in Japan! It’s been so fun watching you grow as time goes on. Thanks for taking us along for the journey!
What a journey. Wow. I had to laugh when you cut to old Emma after saying she was stressed. It was very visible. 😄 Glad you made it to the other side. Woo to luxury life!!
So glad that you got approved for your new place! I remember when I had to move across the country and it was the worst experience, though that was my own fault. Agghh so happy for you! おめでとう!
It's been so nice to watch your journey from getting to Japan and living in a closet with no windows and slowly moving up throughout the years until you're now at this beautiful apartment. Congratulations, Emma! It sucks you stressed yourself out to the point of getting sick during this move, but at least it's over now.
As an Australian WTF? We had to pay a bond, advance rent of 1 month, then we got movers who ended up charging for more than what they quoted per hour. This was all fun to do during the middle of the pandemic and everything was closing down.
@@Sovereignty3 Most apartments in the US don't require an rent advance of 1 month if you have good credit. Your deposit amount is also based on credit. Its even less likely when you're looking at expensive apartments because the assumption is that if you can afford the place, you're likely not going to wreck it.
We found your channel from watching "apartment tours" WOW.....this new place is ao nice!! Can't wait to see the tour when you are all done decorating. You get big KUDOS for moving by yourself! Moving is so hard to do, especially when you don't have family close by to help. You got it done though!! 😃
Hoping for at-least auto-craptions soon. this has been horrible lately, i cannot watch any 'new' videos. RUclips's fucking up deaf accessibility to the extreme.
You deserve all of this Emma ❤ I've watched since you were in a tiny apartment and now here you are, living your best life in such a nice home in Japan! It's such a great thing to see you continuing to move up the ladder 💕
Thanks Emma ! I really needed one of your Videos today. You always cheer me up. I also FULLY feel for you as we are (hopefully) moving in 1 month and I am already so anxious for all the upcoming stress haha. And I love your new Home and just seeing how happy it makes you :)
You are absolutely one of the few very few RUclipsrs I will always follow. You got me forever. You're so extremely nice always interesting and very genuine. Thank you
Right?! Totally agree. I found myself wondering how anyone there saves up for that. Especially if you're doing mainly free lance work. That's nuts. We just moved house two months ago here in the US. Sold our house and moved to a rental in another state. It cost us almost that much for first, last and deposit, but it's a 3 bedroom House, not an apartment! If we hadn't just sold our home we never could have afforded it.
@@kenziedayne4234 Ouch. I don't have much experience moving homes etc but yeah, sounds bonkers she's able to afford it doing free lance work but I guess that's her business. I know one thing... she's got more money than me lol. I think employees definitely get paid more in Japan.
As a long time subscriber who’s been here since the “I can touch both walls at the same time” days...it’s so great to see every time you move into a better place. Haha
Very happy for you! I cannot believe you have so much staff now, specially since you started in a very tiny tiny apartment... All the best for your new adventure in your brand new place!
I think its wild that people messaged you being concerned about being expected to speak japanese as a long term immigrant in....... Japan........ like in my experience every english speaking country expects everyone to speak english even if you're just a tourist staying for a couple of weeks.
In America, at least, you could get in A LOT of legal trouble if you refused to rent to someone bacause of their English language ability or lack there of.
Congratulations Emma!! I have been watching your videos since you had that super tiny apartment where you could touch the walls with both hands so seeing you settling in here is so awesome!

im gonna dance Kyary pamyu pamyu when i move too That sounds like the best tradition
Ooh your balcony garden is lovely! Mulberry trees go wild where I live. Makes me appreciate them more seeing someone caring for a wee one at their home.
omg I got SO STRESSED. I know that you got the apartment but I got so stressed by empathy, poor Emma! Here is a *hug *
Me too! I was second hand stressed watching her be so stressed. I have had disastrous moves so I totally empathize.
Congrats on Moving. 🥳
The wood/astroturf tiles on the balcony are by far the coolest part of this video. I need those in my life.
Congrats on the new place! Happy you took the time to feel better!!
ive been here watching her live from that small room with no windows to this beautiful apartment!! talk ab upgrade !
I'm so happy for you, Emma! From that teeny apartment to this, you're an inspiration.
emma being stressed out is literally me doing anything 😭
Yaaaay Emma is back! So sorry you had to go through such a stressful situation, but now you're living the dream! I hope you can take some time to rest and take care of yourself for the next couple weeks as you settle in to your hard-earned apartment. Looking forward to seeing your lovely face soon
Im also moving in a few days! I'm really excited, but also realise I have a lot to do :O!
Good luck! Everything will be all right! 😊
Good luck!
Best of luck. A tip from my experience is to pack an overnight bag and add other common household items like toilet paper and even some snacks. It will save you some stress on your first night at the new place. Nothing worse than looking for the box with your pajamas when it's 2am and you're exhausted.
@@XSemperIdem5 pajamas ? What are those , I definitely don't have designated sleep clothes haha
good luck
So happy for you! Such a long way from a tiny apartment to this beautiful place! Wishing you all the best in your new home! 🥳🥳
"Stop talking to me! Why are you still talking to me? I don't want to talk to you anymore!" Totally feel this everytime I have to talk to almost anyone on the phone. lol Emma just embodies what the intorvert feels on the phone. xD
Sexy fridge definitely equals luxury life. lol
OH this lovely video brings up so many memories
In my twenties I moved to another continent and spent there 9 years. I moved 8 times in those 9 years...
Good times!
Thanks for reminding me.
And, again, a great video Emma 😍
Ahhh f***, I can't swear on my channel! 😂😂 You had me dying! Congratulations!!!!!!
Much love from Arizona ❤️❤️
What area are you from? I'm currently located in Yuma! I always get so happy when I see other people from Arizona.
@@socialinteraction_8252 Yuma? I grew up there! Small world 😆
@@dyfsyn Wow that's crazy!
"I give money, I live in the apartment, that's all I want to do" haha
おめでとう!
21:12 I felt like I was watching the River Spirit going into the bathtub in Spirited Away lol
It's been so nice to watch your journey from getting to Japan and living in a closet with no windows and slowly moving up throughout the years until you're now at this beautiful apartment. Congratulations, Emma! It sucks you stressed yourself out to the point of getting sick during this move, but at least it's over now.
Me whenever u upload a New vid: ☺️
That was so satisfying how the grass patches fit perfectly on your balcony omg
$6,000 is absolute insanity. I’ve moved in the US multiple times for around $300 and that’s just a deposit.
@@Sovereignty3 In fact I'll go out of my way to negotiate rent down or a month free or something.
I really like that desk. I'm over here crying cuz I'm just so happy you survived the moving process.
As much as I love Japan, I feel like a lot of processes need procedural review and simplification 😂!
Yay, craptions!
I'm so happy she's settling into a new place. That fridge is hella awesome.
I so agree. I've noticed in a few channels the craptions aren't on immediately. It happened on Sharmeleon's too recently
You deserve all of this Emma ❤ I've watched since you were in a tiny apartment and now here you are, living your best life in such a nice home in Japan! It's such a great thing to see you continuing to move up the ladder 💕
Omg I can't imagine paying $6k to move into an apartment... it's hard to have that much cash on hand at one point!!
Excellent! It's so tough to move. I'm glad you made it through the tough parts. Getting settled in will be so nice.
I've moved seven times in my life, it seems that none of them were as stressfull as moving in Japan
Oh im so happy for you!!! You deserve this Emma, enjoy your wonderful home :’)
"When was your dad born" such an important question lmaoo
Guess it's for identifying
I mean, I guess Gen Z people don't know shit about their parents 🤷
Thanks Emma ! I really needed one of your Videos today.
You always cheer me up.
I also FULLY feel for you as we are (hopefully) moving in 1 month and I am already so anxious for all the upcoming stress haha.
And I love your new Home and just seeing how happy it makes you :)
'Stressed out Emma' is my spirit animal
LOL I want this on a t-shirt even though no one else would get it!
Thanks for the detailed look at the process - it was quite interesting. Hope the new place is all you want, and that you settle in quickly.
The Japanese renting system is so broken... It's less hassle to buy a house in most countries.
I'm so happy for you. I really hope the aparment will be everything you wish it to be
"Health issues" means poorly-made chocolate from Chris Broad, right?
You are absolutely one of the few very few RUclipsrs I will always follow. You got me forever. You're so extremely nice always interesting and very genuine. Thank you
"Every time I have a business phone call I sweat..a lot" this is me
The place looks great! So happy for you Emma!
6K moving fee's, that's insane! I feel so poor watching this video.
Haha
Early support gang
Very happy for you! I cannot believe you have so much staff now, specially since you started in a very tiny tiny apartment... All the best for your new adventure in your brand new place!
I think its wild that people messaged you being concerned about being expected to speak japanese as a long term immigrant in....... Japan........ like in my experience every english speaking country expects everyone to speak english even if you're just a tourist staying for a couple of weeks.
this is completely untrue. can you give even one example?
In America, at least, you could get in A LOT of legal trouble if you refused to rent to someone bacause of their English language ability or lack there of.
Congratulations Emma!! I have been watching your videos since you had that super tiny apartment where you could touch the walls with both hands so seeing you settling in here is so awesome!
Good on you Emma ! Can I ask how many m2 is this apartment ?
You can! It is 55 😊
@@TokidokiTraveller Oh wow,that's big ! Enjoy it :))
Watching this stressed out, trying to get through finals and a 200 mile move next week and a sick puppy. Future Emma is giving me hope right now. ❤️
