    As a fellow Texan, I’m curious to know your plan for redoing furniture during summer and 100 degree weather and/or high humidity.. Will you adjust your hours, set up a canopy, also, I’ve never used a sprayer so makes me wonder about the spray I see in the air as you paint. Does it not get on your skin, hair, concrete. Your car seems far enough away. I requested PDF a day or two ago, but haven’t gotten and not in spam. I just requested again, so if it doesn’t arrive in a few days, I’ll email you. How many days should we allow to receive email? Thanks for sharing your methods. I love that you do quality work, some RUclipsrs don’t cover the sides of the drawers and spray gets on them and looks shotty, yours look like they came from a high end manufacturer.

    • @diywife
      @diywife  3 года назад +1

      The humidity isn't so much of an issue when the temps are so high... we'll be doing more indoor projects for the summer, and keep furniture painting to the morning/evenings if possible! I'm pretty sure the sun catching the paint overspray makes it look super dramatic, because there's not actually as much overspray as you'd think. I sometimes accidentally spray my feet, but that's about it. We put down drop cloth with enough space around the edges so that it doesn't get on the concrete :)
      The pdf should come automatically but if it didn't you can email at Andrea.DIYwife@gmail.com and we'll send it!

    • @diywife
      @diywife  3 года назад +1

      It actually takes more than 1 sheet of plywood for a dresser (think about all the drawer boxes and faces) plus all the edge banding, not to mention that many drawer slides and hardware and finishing materials... and lumber prices are crazy high right now. I actually do build custom furniture I just do it for myself and not to sell because I know how much time and money really goes into it and believe me, I’d be making a lot less for the time doing that 😅.

  • @2299momo
    @2299momo 3 года назад

    Looks like a cool hobby, I'm sure most people who watch this like the montage, or furniture in general. But wow all I could think about was how there's no way this is worth the labor. Even if the whole piece took 10 man-hours (which is generous, since you have to look on the marketplace, and the process of refurbishing is very detailed), that's only $25/hr of labor. Let alone upfront costs, which don't seem to be mentioned in this video. All of the machinery and power tools aren't cheap and should be considered if you're trying to profit off of things like this. I sure hope nobody romanticizes this as a job or means of survival, because it doesn't seem sustainable without extra income. Not to mention the amount of technical knowledge needed to pull this off to a high enough quality that you actually GET customers is worth more than $25/hr in industry.

      Yes! We’re in a pretty good spot that’s not under trees, and I blow off the area all around it beforehand so stuff doesn’t blow on it from the ground. The best way to learn is to just get started, you’ll learn a lot from just trying it!

    The furniture flippers who follow you use only chalk and mineral paints vs latex paint because of adverse long-term adhesion problems. I am wondering why you don't have issues when using latex paint. I signed up for your newsletter, but I haven't received the painting PDF. Thank you.

      What really makes the difference is your prep (cleaning/priming) and top coat. Katie Scott actually has an awesome video comparing the different types of paint! I did actually use fusion mineral paint in this one though :)

      Also, not sure why some people don’t get the pdf, sorry about that! It should be automatic, but if it didn’t come through just email as Andrea.DIYwife@gmail.com and we’ll forward it :)

    My question is how many hours of labor did you put into it? $250 profit before labor cost…..10 hours would only be $25 an hour. My thoughts are at least 20 hours….$12.50 an hour? It turned out beautiful-a labor of love?

      This one was maybe 5-6 hours with everything, although it’s a bit tricky keeping track of with filming (which adds quite a bit of time) and then breaks between coats. I didn’t charge quite enough on this one to be honest!

    Hello great work! I wanted to ask a question... I see that in some videos you say you flip the furniture piece relatively quickly...you say you use several different paints..chalk..mineral..etc..isn't there a "curing" process of days and sometimes weeks for some of these different paints . top coats / waxes? I have seen some that say it takes up to 30 days to "cure" and to not wash the surface before then..can you comment on that please?

    I love it except for the bottom, it's not the right color for such a dark color every where else.. just needs a dark stain
