    Great work dude! The other thing to remember is that painting anything it always goes through an ‘ugly stage’ I find and I usually hate the paint jobs I do on models at one point or another. The thing to do is push through and you’ll get there. I think your finished model looks good but if you wanted to do some weathering you could use a spounge to lightly add some brown chips and id also recommend playing with some weathering pigments.

  • @vineheart01

    Yellow is one of the more difficult colors to get right.
    Both because it tends to not cover up very well and also because the tone of the yellow is usually extremely difficult to look realistic.
    I paint my orks primarily badmoonz, but i dont do overly beaten up rust effects because i spend so much time making the yellow look good.

    yellow is really tricky, a nice tip is to spray the whole model white then from only underneath spray it pink so u can see pink shadows, u could use ur new airbrush for this but a spray bottle works fine, then spray yellow over the whole thing with an airbrush, as yellow is slightly transparent, the shadows come out really nicely, i have used this technique on a bad moons battle wagon and it looks great, u should definitely try this

    • @nekrataali

      Ya the reason the yellow looked green was because it dried translucent and allowed the black to come through. With yellow, you need a lighter under coat to avoid this.

    Sometimes its difficult painting, I used to paint my marines bright green and it put me off the hobby for a good while, but im back at it painting them a nice gray dark with silver highlights and green eyes, if you feel you dont like the paint job, it might be worth having a sit back, changing the lighting, maybe go for a walk around with the model in your hand to see what different lighting in your house is like, then going back in for some finishing touches

I have been in the game since the late '80s, and I'm always learning a short cut or a better way to paint, as I have started to use an airbrush which has put the fun back into painting my Super heavies, I model Imperial Guard Catachan Army, hundreds of vehicles and air units, now I'm in my late 50's, so please give it go cheers from DownUnder.

  • @SJGvP
    @SJGvP 3 года назад

    Cool build. It's really amazing what you can do with these sprues. In the end the paint job looks fine to me.
    Yellow straight over black is notoriously difficult to make look good, even for a master painter. If you want to use such a bright color it's better to use another approach. There are a few options.
    - basecoat light grey or white first.
    - paint an opaque ochre craft paint before painting yellow.
    - use yellow spray paint as a base layer.
    Of course a collab with another hobbyist is also a great idea.

    Could you put some of the ooey-gooey-spruey-stuff into a vacuum chamber to try and get rid of the bubbles? Not sure how that would affect the acetone content or drying time, but might be worth the experiment to see if you can eliminate the bubbles when rolling out panels.

    The build turned out great, I initially thought it was a genuine Ork Gorkanaut from thumbnail and short until you stated otherwise. As for the paintjob, maybe next try using a stiff paint brush and make sure that there isn't too much paint on the brush before applying it. You might find this technique works a lot better, although I think the green was mostly likely because of the dark colour underneath.

    Looks ok for me on screen, but I had the same problem some time of yellow looking green over brown. Putting a bit of red into the yellow helped me (so it's a bit more like maize yellow). It's cuz dark brown (or translucent light brown over black) has a lot of black, which is blue based, and with yellow it makes olive, I think. Also I would use a foam and not fibre based sponge. When you tear it apart, the fine structure gives you better paint chip/particle effect.

  • @sandyakabatteriehuhn
    @sandyakabatteriehuhn 3 года назад

    Ah yes, the joy of painting yellow! ^^
    It did definitly turn greenish because it mixed with the brown underneath it, that happens especially with cheaper paints (I don't know what paints you use).
    A coat of varnish would've helped - or hairspray, which you can scrap off here and there and make a great chipping effect :)
