Repairing a Roland XP-10

- I got this very dirty Roland XP-10 at the same garage sale as the Casio WK-1800 I showed a couple of months ago. The price was the same, 100dkr, which is way lower than the usual asking price for an XP-10.
I turned out that there was a serious problem with it: The display was unreadable so I had to find a way to repair it.
The music is a combination of manual playing and MIDI file. The first song is 'Orient Express' by Jean Michel Jarre which is mostly a MIDI file, the second is the old Dollar hit 'Mirror mirror' and here only the rhythm is MIDI.
Both songs are played on the Roland XP-10.
Sounds great!
I succeed to fix many of those self-adhesive display contacts by using a breeze of superglue and the fine tip of a scalpel, attaching (massaging) carefully into each track of the foil cable and beside.
👍👍👍
La luz de mi pantalla no anda, alguna solución?
I got one aswel, original owner since the 90ties, the grease in the sliders might be dry.
Thank you for this video. Very helpful. Now to get started on mine.
Will a dead backup battery prevent the xp-10 from power up? I am not getting any power when I turn it on? Possible power supply issue internally? I have tried different 9v neg center power adapters to no avail
It should be possible to power it up with a dead battery - it will off course not be able to store anything permanently. Are the power supplies you have tried able to deliever the current needed? I can see on mine that it requires up tp 1000mA and that is quite a lot. also does the plug fit correctly? There are many different hole sizes and thicknesses of a DC plug. Does the socket feel loose? I have repaired many keyboard that had a DC socket where the soldering was cracked. That was just a few things that came to my mind.
I have just one question: are there parts available for the XP-10 & other keyboards of the XP family?
that a bit of a Jean Michael Jarre cover?
Yes - as I wrote in the presentation!
