I think most markets are moving to autos.
I looked into out of curiosity several years ago.
Canada, NZ, Australia, Japan, South Korea, China and even countries in Europe all seem to have the markets beginning to shift over to autos or the markets already are mostly autos.
I personally kept seeing all the hype online from manuals and decided to learn on a Diesels VW Jetta, Jeep Wrangler, and Toyota Corolla iM.
I gotta be honest I wasn't that impressed. The Corolla waa the most fun.
I think it's interesting. Glad I know how to do it. But making it a daily driver is a hard sale. If I was rich enough for a 2nd car maybe. But it doesn't suprise normal folks buying economy cars who knew how to drive manuals thought they were nothing special and started the market shift to autos. If it's not a sports cars rarely is it fun for folks.

Your commentary is A+. Very professional and easy to listen to. I almost bought one in March of 2017. Chevrolet was wanting to dump the last of these Australian produced cars and had steep discounts. They MSRP was $50,000 because they only came loaded. The only options were the 6 speed manual , sun roof, and full sized spare tire with a stock rims.
The one I was looking at was green like in your video but it was automatic. The cool part was the dealer had it at just over $37000. If I wasn't so concerned with the fall out from buying it without my wife's approval I could have immediately resold it for 4 or 5 thousand more. All's well that ends well. I am now the proud owner of a 2019 2lt Corvette Grand Sport coupe.

2:48 I have a white 2017 SS with the manual. I deleted the skip shift for $14.95 with Muzzys Skip Shift Eliminator. It is just a simple wire with a plug on either end that enables you to bypass the solenoid located next to the transmission (left side I think) that controls this "feature". I had a mechanic put my SS up on his lift and install this in 5 minutes for another $28. You will still see the skip shift light up on the dash for a second or two, but it will be eliminated. Just do this before you are driven nuts. Tunes can also do this, but are much more expensive.

The American M5 even though it has an Australian accent. These are sleepers, they look like a Malibu but are great driver's cars. A manual V8 sedan is super cool. The interiors are cheap GM and some parts are hard to get because nothing else in the US but the Caprice uses the platform but that RWD V8 with a manual makes up for a lot of sins. It's one of those if you know, you know cars.
These aren't losing any value because they're still in demand. GM didn't advertise these because they didn't want to sell them. Making it look like a Malibu was part of their lackadaisical effort to sell it and it wasn't cheap either. As part of the contract for Holden to build and export the Caprice police car GM-USA also had to accept just over 12k short-wheelbase cars. These came in one well-equipped trim level with two available options: sunroof and full-size spare tire. GM sold as many as they had to and no more.
There is a company that imports wagon and ute bodies to convert SSs, G8s, and Caprices. They're not cheap but they look good. The Australians kept the RWD V8 family hauler going for way longer than the US did.

I don't think it was something they didn't want to sell. Rather, a car that nobody was buying.
They had the Camaro and the Corvette already competing for sales. The Camaro SS was nearly $10k cheaper than the SS and a base Corvette is another $10k more over the SS. This car didn't really fit in Chevy's lineup, which is why it didn't sell. Us "enthusiasts" love these types of cars. We cry for every manufacture to make them yet nobody buys them.

The wagons were never sold in manual in Australia in the 2013-2017 (VF or VF II) generation which is the generation the Chevrolet SS is.
They were available in manual in the 2007-2012 (VE and VE II) generation.
Only way to get a manual wagon in the later generation was to special order one from Holden Special Vehicles. This was called the HSV Gen F Clubsport Tourer.

There is a company in the US that imports wagon and ute bodies and will convert your SS, G8, or Caprice. It's not cheap.

It was built by Holden but sold in the US as the Chevolet SS. SS is literally the model name.

You literally described a 5th Gen Camaro which shares the same platform, and available with an LS and a 6 speed. Some of us need something to fit a family in, and want something that looks low-key.

Maybe in 2023, but this car was introduced in 2014 and at that time this was an extremely competitive interior let alone tops for GM or compared to other domestics.
