@Santiago Colla is it really a privilege to have US citizenship? I have it and was born with it but it's not that good at all. Canadian citizenship is really better if I could get rid of my US citizenship without paying $7000 I would have done that. So I can only have my Canadian citizenship
I love how everyone is like ''Merit Based immgraiton oh yeah, the only way it should be, MAGA!" but in reality wouldn't even be qualifed or choosen to live in the U.S if it wasn't for them already being born there.
Haha yeah it would be great if all these people crying for the removal of birthright citizenship lost theirs too. Want to stay in the country? You better apply for a green card, if you can't then go back to europe where you came from
I'm a green card lottery winner and I was very disappointed because of the selecting process. In fact, I am from Ukraine and in my country there are plenty of really smart people like scientists, PhD owners, highly-skilled engineers, prospective students, IT specialists, etc. And since my country does not provide a proper treatment for them, they would love to work in a country that may give a hope for the better future. But, unfortunately, the green card lottery is a random lottery, so all such people have no chances to win. What is wrong with the US, is it hard to be more selective? Such lottery is a huge opportunity for the country: it can bring most intelligent "brains" from the whole world, but instead it collects worst of the worst.
My Albanian friend won a lottery to America, she now regrets living in America. Expensive medical bills, low paying jobs, people yelling at her for having an accent, high housing with tiny living space, expensive college tuitions and barely finds a job. She already had everything she needed back in Albania.
@asadbekkhudayberganov9112 not really you have to start all over again when people migrate to other countries they sell everything they had in their own countries
I'd love to win a Green Card. I'm 20 years old, with only high school diploma. I've always dreamed of living in the United States. I've been researching my options, and unfortunately, the DV-Lottery is my only option to get to the United States...
The green card lottery is really interesting. I saw that the UK got added to the eligibility list and thought it may be worth the “gamble” lol. But I definitely understand the concerns of the program.
One would question the authenticity of 'random' selection that allegedly the GC process undergoes. I have applied 11 times in total, all in vain and the last two times I did it with my spouse and child. I know people who got theirs and they had absolutely no idea what America's values are, did not speak English and had no applied training or diploma besides the minimum required. The American dream is nothing but a mirage created after the depression era. What I lost is that my dreams and goals got squashed, while America gained more low IQ residents. I am talking about the majority of winners in my country. People who get back after a couple of years because they found it hard to assimilate to US culture, not knowing anything about it doesn't help. So, to recap, I highly question the purpose of the green card selection. A country as great as America should hope to bring people who will maintain its grandeur and status and not downgrade it. I hope that congress would reform and come up with an approved bill that allows only people on merit.
Younes Chahir that’s a good point, I agree. Maybe instead of requiring only a high school degree they could change it to a Bachelors degree of minimum 3 years or something. 🤷🏻♀️

I am christian male, with high school diploma and also some university courses, i have no criminal record, i am healthy and willing to work and pay taxes, why won't you give me chance USA!?
It's cool, because it's a lot harder to go into US than it is for my country, France. But what i don't get is that even with a job in US, they say it is still a lottery since we can't be certain to obtain the famous greecard. Also is it a necessity to have an adress to work ?
winners can finish US university if they are young + not all jobs need university degrees. Immigrants are beneficial for country because US don't spend on raising children and start receiving adult immigrant taxes when they work in US.
Fellow viewer, I urgently need your help! I'm a Portuguese national who wants to apply to the green card lottery this year (ends tomorrow). The problem is, I wasn't aware I needed to have my passport ready for the application until yesterday when I went to do the application. I have recently renewed my Portuguese citizenship card but I haven't renewed my passport yet, and it would take a week for me to get my new renewed passport. How did I miss the fact that I need the passport to apply for this years' green card lottery in the first place? Because I was stupid and naive, and I regret it now! So my question is: should I put the expired passport number and date (and hope that, if I get selected, I get the chance to introduce my renewed passports' data); or should I put the same passport number with the same expiration date of my citizenship card (which would be lying)? Please, I really appreciate your help right now.
Guilherme Lourenço It’s been 6 months since you posted this and I only saw it today 9 May 2020. Answer is no you cannot use your expired passport or identity card for the application becoz it amounts to lying. I believe that instead of the 1.2 million that immigrate a year, that number needs to be reduced to anywhere between 300,000 to 500,000 and be solely given to people who have a college degree or higher instead of a high school diploma (employment based). This ensures that the incoming immigrants have the ability to support themselves, are highly educated and motivated, have a proficiency in English as well as other languages and will in their life never use a federal aid program. You need a leaner and more competitive immigration program that rewards skills. This will revitalize the US economy and ensure sustained growth over the years.
The thing about the diversity visa is that it is meant to bring in applicants who would not have otherwise been accepted to the US. If you are skilled and have a college degree, you can apply for a work visa like the H1 or O1 visa, which then allows you to apply for a green card. Of course the diversity visa will take in those who are undereducated, underprivileged, etc. It's designed to do that.
@@V25021 not really... You can be educated and experienced in your field but the US employers do not want to go through the burocratic process of applying for a work permit on the behalf of a future employee at the same time they do not want to wait for you do it yourself. Which is unfair because an uneducated (and sometimes even an illiterate) person can just get lucky with the "Diversity Visa" while someone with a college degree and over a decade of experience is stuck in this loop. I would be all for the point based system where your English proficiency, college education as well as work experience would give you the right to live and work. I don't need federal aid, and jobs in my field are available all over the USA. Apparently, I was simply born in the wrong country.
I would suggest you to study some history and consider that all of the americans are actually emigrants from western Europe. That's how it all started. Perhaps that's the history of your family as well. How would you feel if you were on the other side?

I’m so disappointed in CNBC. You all did a horrible job explaining this process. And you almost stopped as low as using racist rhetoric to do it. 1. Applicants come from all over the world. Not just Africa and the Middle East. Europeans apply in the American Visa lottery every day. 2. You know the stats of “a sliver.” Why did you not state them? 3. Africa has the highest number of acceptances because Africa is the content with the most amount of countries. The lottery is based on countries. Not continents.

Cassie Silver You can get a student visa by studying there, or be an au pair for a year, or apply for jobs to get an employer sponsored visa etc. you have options. In the meantime keep applying. Sometimes it takes 7 times to apply to be selected.
you dont just get a sponsored visa, my brother finished his engineering degree in south africa last year, in the top 5 percent of all engineering students across the country, yet he didnt get a job there, he 'can' but it will take time, so he might as well get 2 years experience. All these idiots think you can just 'get into america' with any degree, if an engineer (mind you he went to a university that's ranked higher than most US universities) cant get in easily, your chances with an art or business degree arent looking good at all. 0:28. Hello darkness my old friend.
Maybe because government does not need smart and thinking people, they need obedient slaves easily controlled ?
Lol you’re one of them
Ok but how much is a degree from Ukraine worth? Not much, sorry.

I'm American and you're right. Most of us understand what we have and we want what you want. The lottery system is unethical
Butthurt... It's called lottery for a reason
Younes Chahir that’s a good point, I agree. Maybe instead of requiring only a high school degree they could change it to a Bachelors degree of minimum 3 years or something. 🤷🏻♀️

Nazi
And ensure you never get trade people
I would suggest you to study some history and consider that all of the americans are actually emigrants from western Europe. That's how it all started. Perhaps that's the history of your family as well. How would you feel if you were on the other side?
