Thanks for doing my request! The more I listen to this song the more I love it. I love Alex's guitar work on this song. It has a interesting chaotic emotional sound. The whole Vapor Trails album has a lot of references to Neil's tragedy and his healing. Another one from Vapor Trails Ghost Rider live in Rio. Cheers
I'm a huge Rush fan, but this song has always grabbed me for some reason. It's not as melodious as many of their other songs, but it just has something special about it. The song is about the nature of love. You cannot love someone without risking the pain of them hurting you sometimes, or as Neil experienced, of losing them. The only way out of the pain is to find a new love, and put yourself right back in. You cannot break the chain. I believe the healing hand, the secret touch on the heart was a reference to Neil's second wife (and I believe) step-daughter, who helped him find a way out, but also brought him right back in.
That was Neil's natural daughter Olivia. He was teaching her how to drum. I read his book Far and Away and he talked about how scared he was when his wife Carrie was giving birth that something terrible would happen.
Vapor Trails is the only Rush album I don't own. I figured the best songs have probably all appeared on DVD. Some great playing from Alex on this one, and the band keeping it all together. I've read Neil's book, Ghost Rider, which is insightful, but also a bit of a marathon journey to get through in its own right.
Rush puts on another CLINIC!!

Great song!
That last minute they are showing that they are not tourist! More Rush please!
Have you done Between the wheels yet? Another dark, brooding classic with amazing guitar work!
Not yet - thanks for the suggestion!
This particular performance of this particular song is one of the most underrated amongst the Rush universe.

Cult classic. IMO, If this song comes out in the Pw/MP/Signals era, it’s an all time classic like the other great songs of that era!
