Schubert piano pieces are so deceptive in that they sound “easy” to play because the harmony and form are relatively straightforward, (especially for those who study theory). Until you get a copy of the piece and then try to sight read it... I am a fan of Ms Aimi Kobayashi, watching her play virtuosically at such a young age helps me imagine what it would have looked like when Mozart or even Mendelssohn must have played as child prodigies. Oh and I absolutely love her playing Chopin Scherzo 1 and Etude 5 Op 25 at the Chopin competition!
John... Your perspective is noted and respected... I am a 69 year old chorister... never had much luck with the piano. That said, I found nothing wrong with this performance and I also think that it is all Aimi and not her teachers. This is the performance that sticks in my head even though I think I have a Brendel version, and have listened to a few others on RUclips. She has a drive that is very rare even for a master and every time she finishes I want stand up and cheer.
She played faster than professional. Horowitz played the slowest at about 55, Zimmerman 62, Barenboim 65. This girl played at 72. The amazing thing is that her playing is still clean and with good articulation.
Each time I see a video of Aimi, my mind get blown away. There are two important qualities for a pianst : Sensibility, and technical skill. She has both of them, more than anyone I know, since she began to play the piano.
Aimi you are a genious!! Then and today. It might be the best interpretation i have heard of this piece. Musically wonderfull and technical perfect. Its a very solistic and difficult piece played like that and listening to what a genious pianist she is today, the musicality must have started early. I see further below in some statements: The old ones understanding the music and a child can not. Nonsense!! Genious' are not to be understood. Aimi is one. Mozart was one. Chopin waas one. Schubert himself maybe the biggest. He always after 6 months got better than his students also as a child - and composed the Forellenquibntett after sharing 2 bottles of redwine with a friend. Finished written during a night. In his head. Perfect next morning. Aimi you are a genious. Some here too stupid to understand!!

So cute! I am always amazed. We think of these little ones as somewhat magical that they can perform like a well trained adult. But the reality though it seems impossible is that these little ones are in reality matured spirits in still growing little bodies. 😊
I think that generally speaking, this Schubert's piano tune called impromptu is pretty difficult. This little girl's piano ability is extraordinarily high. If she cares about piano~forte dynamics and emotional factors little bit, Immediately, she is able to release its C.D toward the world.
Personally I believe that Aimi is delivering a very original and carefully-crafted interpretation of the piece here. If you see her other videos, you will see that she's more than capable of being 'subtle'; in fact she is well-known for her poetic phrasing which is why she was given a special Polish passport and invited to perform a Chopin's concerto in Warsaw. The piece here is only marked 'Allegro' not with 'Dolce', 'Leggiero' or 'Tenerezza', thus leaving room for the artist's interpretation.
Well said... Too many stereotypes have nothing more than critisize...
