you forgot how to save it into jpeg!!!! it's my first time using photoshop... i'm on the free trial, can i do this?
I can tell you guys this is the most stupid way to change the background of an image to white color. it is tedious and takes so much effort. here is the hack : take your phone and go to your smartphone and edit it, it will give you an option that already has a white background; another way is to edit in instagram where a white background is also available. All these methods only require 1 click and the result is very high quality. efficient and effective.
What version of Photoshop is this please
JR, do you realize you're the FIRST one to make a tutorial about how to PROPERLY select & mask? Not one tut I've seen over years has ever made the clarifications you've made here. I as well as many others thought the S&M panel was flawed in some way compared to refine edge.
Well done. If Adobe product knowledge was measured in people, you would be China.
Thank you, P. Peter R! I appreciate that!
I'm not sure about other tutorials since I don't watch any others, but as far as people go, most don't know how Select and Mask works and what the settings do. So I thought it was a good opportunity to show it off.
Simply amazing! Best explanation of select and mask (wish I had this years ago). So many good tips and practical examples with this tutorial. Brilliantly done! Thank you!
I've looked at multiple sources, yours was the best one, especially thankful for: 1) Very easy masking and hiding hair wisps in portraits, 2) highlighting through dodge and burn
Where have you been all my life!!!! So easy to follow and a very calming voice.
Thanks !
Thank you, Prime Lens!
This tutorial is well explained, detailed, and came at a time when I needed it the most. Thank you! 🖖🏼
Dear Jesus, I’m so impressed by your tutorials. I’m working on Photoshop for ages, but now I’m learning the stuff. Everything is clearly explained, whatever you say about what you do or what needs to be done makes perfect sense. Thank you very much for your tutorials 🙏
I've struggled for soooo long trying to mask out and extract hair. Your tutorial filled in the missing step for me. Many many thanks. I will struggle no more.
Just blown away by how much useful information you're providing. These tutorials are invaluable - thank you so much for sharing. My efforts in Photoshop have come a long way since I started watching your videos.
Thank you, Darren!
Hey J, This is such a helpful tutorial thanks a ton. I needed to extract a logo from a darker background and this method works wonders! You've also shown me the wizardry that is PS, thank you so much for your hard work and amazing tutorial :)
Thank you! I have been trying to figure this dang tool out since it first came out! LOL
Dave Cross teaches to do separate 'Refine Edge' masks on the body and the head, so, I have been doing that. But, you helped to understand it! I can't wait to go at one again! LOL
You're welcome, suruha2306!
Awesome tutorial! All steps are absolutely relevant and easy to follow. Thanks for making our life easier.
Complex stuff perfectly explained - I never cease to learn new things from you! I particularly liked (a) how to reset the "Global Refinements" and (b) how to duplicate inner shadows - thanks a ton for all of this, Jesús!
Thanks again! 😊
What I particularly like about this vid is that you also explained how to do it on the older versions. God bless you good soul.
Thanks! That was the most comprehensive explanation of the Select and Mask I’ve seen. Really helps me understand how to use it most efficiently.
It's great that you take the time to give GREAT instructions in PS without the cost that others want you to pay for. All your tutorials are a jem!!! Thanks again.
You're welcome, Joe! But I don't blame other for selling videos. I do it as well! 🙂
This is the best video I have found on this subject. Really helpful. For those like me trying to train up on Photoshop, hopefully quickly, professionals like yourself taking the time to make quality tutorial videos is a godsend. Thank you so much!!!
Hands down, this is the best image extraction from the background I came across. Big thumbs up and SUBSCRIBED!
OMG I have watched so many photoshop tutorials and just get frustrated and quit. This tutorial is on point! Thank you so much for sharing!!
I know this is a year old, but this is the best tutorial on masking yet! Thank you so much for making this.
The level of attention that you have to the details of the image is amazing. And we have the tendency to stop halfway there thinking that the image is already OK, but there's so much you can do to make the image stand out! Thanks, man!
You're welcome, Alexandre!
Such a wonderful tutorial! Great job moving slowly and explaining in such detail! Thank you!!

Some extremely useful tips in this video which are relevant to some of the work I do. The light wrap technique is excellent as are the tips on select and mask, especially the idea of hitting OK and going back in to enable different area to be worked on. That is something I had trouble with. Excellent video. Many thanks.
Wow, I've always wanted to use the refine edge tool from the old versions of photoshop, never knew you could access it with Photoshop CC. Thank you!
You are soooooooo thorough! I freaking love it! Please don't stop teaching, you are great at it and your detail to educate is amazing! I watched this video and I was mind blown in a good way. You are amazing!
Thank you for being so clear and concise in your explanations and all the hidden gems as you say. You have a new fan! : )
Hands down I learned almost 5 new things even though I'm using photoshop since 20 years. Thanks best video.
Thank you so much, you are the first one, explaining to do the hair in a second step. That was the best photoshop tipp EVER !!!!
This is the best video, I just spent the whole day so confused about what to do, but this saved me!
Absolutely awesome - thank you!!! So many extra little gems in this video that can be used for all sorts of things.
Excellent! Learned a lot. Now I just need to practice to remember it. Thanks.
You're welcome, B H!

THANK YOU! Learned far more from this tutorial than all similar subject ones combined. Pls keep going with these great & helpful contributions.
I really wish I found this years ago. A game changer for sure! Thank you so much for putting together such an informative tutorial.
Um dos melhores tutorial que já vi. Muito bom !
Omg, I prefer to listen to you rather than listening to my teacher in my 3 years in school I never ever learn this easy way.! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! hope I can learn more in your more videos to come.
These tutorials are amazing. So many tutorials just TELL yu what to do without explaining, so you end up not understanding and just memorising. But with your videos I always feel like I come away with a better UNDERSTANDING. They're great!
Thank you, Andrea!
As a self taught 'shopper - and VFX editor - I watch an AWFUL lot of tutorials, and they are mostly garbage. They ALL do a crappy selection, saying "For the purposes of this tutorial Imma just do a rough selection", ignoring the fact that getting the perfect selection is the absolute cornerstone for all image manipulation. It's the most important, fundamental skill that you must learn for professional results and, after 20+ years, I am still learning it.
This video is the most useful tutorial I have watched in years. I've used the select and mask tool a lot, recently, for some kid photography I've done, and have got pretty good results, but you're showing me what's going on under the hood with the edge selection has just upped the quality of my output enormously.
I subscribe to VERY few channels - who has time, right? - but you've got a new sub, today. Thank you.
thanks thats good info you give. yes he is doing good with his great knowledge of ps. we are all grateful i hope.
This tutorial is amazing. I mean, all of your tutorials are amazing but this is something I would use daily! Thanks, Jesús :D
I'm just blown away by this tutorial - seriously. THANK YOU.
At last a lesson explained in simple language. Thanks a million JR.
I am not new to photoshop but still figuring things out. You made the steps east to understand and did not leave things out assuming the viewer already knew that. I will be referencing your videos many times as I work more in photoshop. Thanks for including the ps6 version information as well as that is what I am still using.
i have to do this all the time and i still picked up some great tips that will speed things up and probably get a better result. This is the THE best video i''ve seen for taking a grey background background to white. So succinct and easy to follow and not unnecessary waffling like most others do.. Thanks!!
Thank you, Mark! I appreciate that!
Praise be to the one who created the select subject button! Much much less frustrating. Thanks for the tutorial. Subscribed.
Thank you. This is the most concise tutorial I have been able to follow with masks/new tools. brilliant!

To make twice select and mask on one layer is very useful and time saving . great tut as always.
Extraordinary explanation. A master of the tool and a master communicator. Not everyone is a master of both. Great.
This helped me understand this whole process :) Thank you very much!
Thank you!! As a complete PS newbie I was able to follow your video / pausing to edit whilst watching to achieve the result I was after. :)

Thank you, SNDC!
wow been using photoshop for years and this helped so much, thank you
Thank you for this tutorial. Really good stuff!
Jesús, you are truly God's gift to Photoshop users. Thank you for everything you provide to us for free here. I have used your techniques before on a corporate photo shoot and am now applying them to product photography but I am struggling with getting sharp edges on the circular bottle tops. I have been using the Quick mask and shift to get pixel perfect selections on the straight edges but unsure what to do on any area with a curve.
You're the BEST! Really! Thank you very much for this great tutorial.
Jesus, your tutorials are always vety well thought out and concise. I always learn at least one new thing every time I watch a new video.
Thank you, Robert!

You're welcome, yesterday-today-forever! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Great tutorial Jesus, Thank you. The detail in these longer tutorials is very helpful. I will use a lot of these in my composites. The light wrap was new to me and so where the tips on select and mask. As always links to previous tutorials and video index is great to have.
You're welcome, Charles!
Thanks for the sharing!! definitly removing background is the most annoying thing to do in PS... i don't like to use the photoshop to do that, i use another programs that help me better in that task. but i will try some of the tips you game here to see if i archive the result that i need!!

Hi!
i'm grateful for this tutorial! it's exactly what I need..... however, I got stuck somewhere at 7 mins when you start talking about refine edge tool which isn't listed in my toolspace. also my refine edge dialog box is waaaaay behind, yours is much advanced.
