Thx a million! I had a Zappi installed on the 2nd Oct & been struggling & most help mails went somewhere??? FYI. I have Battery, inverter & solar via Octopus.
My situation is exactly like you Brian, Zappi and EV6. I moved to Intelligent Octopus Go a few days ago. It didn't go quite so smoothly. My first charge included quite a few additional 30min blocks in addition to the regular 6 hours. All worked very well. Thanks for very helpful content.
Excellent video, I see my nero phev also on the list so it looks like its ready to go . I always set my charge to take 100% green to reduce the solar battery drain through the day and it seems to work ……most times!
Thanks … I always wondered what this strange Octopus, you mention so frequently, might be about. In Germany, we have a new similar provider just entering the market, who is selling the electric cars’ charge capacities on the market in times, when there is too much (green) electric power available.
With Zappi finally integrated I have switched from Flux to the Intelligent Go tarrif. You mentioned switching off the charging to use solar. I do the opposite because I can export my solar genetation and get paid 15p per kwh which is double the 7.5p import tarrif.
I've just left Octopus and it made me realise what a lot of hassle Intellegent is, coupled with the fact it like to discharge my home battery when it liked. I'm now with Eon, far less hassle and 7 hours of cheap electicity.
Great video. I have a Zappi and a Tesla but no solar. On the Octopus App I clicked the T&Cs check box and pressed the button to switch tariff and got a message … “Uh oh something went wrong We were unable to perform that action” Octopus are aware and looking at it. Still in Beta!
@@evodessey it’s sorted now, apparently they hade to register half hour readings from my smart meter. I also had to unload and reload my octopus energy app.
"Charge to add" means what it says. If your car is at 40% and you set charge to add to 35%, octopus will schedule adding 35% until it gets you to a total of 75%. That's why you're getting extra schedule times if you ask it to add 80% to existing 40%.
Great presentation Brian, when I looked at Octopus Go a few months back the maths didn't add up for me as in the tariff rate outside of over night window was almost 10p a unit more than my EDF standard rate. Also off topic my 2022 Sportage phev has had a random BMS malfunction error since the June 2023 infotainment and satnav s/w update. Kia owners forums indicate the same. Kia dealer initially replaced the OBC a day later the BMS malfunction returned, it always clears eventually along with engine management light but will randomly return. A further visit to dealer said stored code P0ABF01 is known by Kia but no current fix but there working on it and is related to the last satnav update and car is safe to drive and with no performance loss. I enquired out of interest what the cost of the OBC previously replaced was without a resolution and they said about £2k !! So frustrating grrr ! Regs Gary.
BMS linked to Head Unit update is very strange. Not heard of that before. There is a way to force roll back the head unit update to an earlier version. I’m surprised the dealer has not offered to do that. We have Solar and cook our main meal in the middle of the day so our day rate hardly gets used so works very well for us.
From my observation setting up the Zappi, it didn't actually do a test charge. I think that's a throwback to the car integrations where they need to test that they can make the car charge. With the Zappi they just need to check that they can connect to the charger itself.
Hi Brian thanks for showing use what is requred to integrate with IOG. Like the new studio. Can I ask how you got notification. Octopus said I can swith to use the zappi via X DM they even given instructions but I don't have the zappi to select only wallbox and Ohme
I'm on the trial as well no problems so far. Get some redicolus long charging periods if I set the Octopus app to 100% charge, gave me 13 hours at 7.5p yesterday but only needed 6 hours to fully charge.
I'm super interested in how your beta testing goes. Hopefully the issue has been sorted where there were too many connections to the car, draining the 12v battery. I look forward to your progress video.
There is no connection to the car at all, the zappi can't even see the car so to speak. ALL control is only to the zappi. So no 12V drain via the Kia Connect app as previously achieved
Cheer. You need a CT clamp on the output from your Panels to see it in the Zappi app. I bought the wired CT clamp from Myenergy and wired into one of the CT inputs on the Zappi. You then have to set some configuration in the Zappi charger for it to appear.
Where you on intelligent Octopus Go before switching to the Zappi beta version? I will be switching myself but am curious if you needed to delete something before starting the switch to the Zappi version. This is really useful content and I appreciate the time you put into these videos.
I've been on IO for over a year and lost my Zappi Charger and EV6 I had to reregister for IO....The Android App doesn't show KIA or Zappie as a choice, So went online I was then able to see and select Zappi and EV6 from from drop down lists...but got the following message IO Go isn't ready for you yet, but it just got one step closer.
If you've registered interest and they sent you the onboarding email it appears as a choice in Android and iOS as long as the apps are up to date. They update their apps weekly.
Online is a compatibility check whereas the app just shows what is currently supported and open to everyone. If you do it online, you can register your interest and MAY get invited to join early.
Brilliant video as usual, but in summer my solar generates a surplus that can go into the car. What do I have to do to allow this? Clearly, bonkers to pay 7.5 p/kWh when I have free surplus solar. I have an EV6 and Zappi just like you
I Just turn it off in the settings in the summer, turn it back on when I need it.Others have suggested that If you are on the Octopus export tariff where they pay you 15p a kWh then it makes sense to just export spare solar and charge your car for 7.5p on IOG instead. I'm not on that because I'm on the 20 year feed in tariff scheme
I think this would tempt me away from Octopus GO, which I am currently on, if it didn't mean changing from my Easee charger which Octopus have no intention of integrating (apparently). I am sure it won't be too long before other suppliers will be bringing out similar products with a wider range of hardware included! 🤞
That’s a pain. It’s taken years to get this far with the Zappi. I wish they would standardise the way they connect these things together so it would speed up Integrations.
Morning EV Odyssey, great video and explanation of how Intelligent Go links with the Myenergi zappi. I have the exact same setup as you, in that I have an ev, solar panels and also battery storage system. Hoping you can answer me something, am I right in thinking from what you said in your video, if I turn off the smart charging feature in the Intelligent Go settings, for example from 9am - 5pm that will allow me to use my solar panels to charge my ev during those hours? Have I got that bit right? Thanks, Mike.
Cheers. Yes, go into the Octopus App then press Account & settings (top right) ->Devices->Intelligent Octopus Go->Smart Charging (on/off) at the bottom of the options. Can then be re-enabled from devices later.
Great video, how easy was it to turn off the smart charging and then go back to Zappi and use the solar energy? Im very new to this and due to have my electric vehicle and zappi charger very soon. I have solar and would like the best of both worlds. Thanks for any help.
Brian - I am currently using IO with my Niro EV, and a Podpoint charger. I am shortly going to have a Zappi installed. Do you know how you switch over to Zappi integration from Kia integration ?
When you get the Zappi you will need to go into Devices on your Octopus App and remove the old Kia settings as far as i know. Once that’s done then follow the steps in this video to setup the Zappi for IO. May also be worth changing the Kia Connect password just in case because the previous Kia integration uses those details.
Great video Brian ,my question is we have 2 EV’s a EV6 and a Fiat 500E and also solar and a Tesla powerwall do you think it will work with all these devices? Thanks
Cheers. They have different Intelligent Octopus plans if you have battery storage but you don’t necessarily have to use them if you don’t want to. If you keep it to the cars then set the Octopus vehicle that they know about to the one with highest battery capacity that way you can plug any car you have in and it will attempt to fill the biggest car up. Smallest car will just stop charging when it’s full. As for the battery you can use any power in the house on the fixed cheap rate 11.30pm-5.30am including storage battery. I have same issue with my EV6 & Renault Zoe (77.4kWh v 41kWh)
Are you saying that you switched off the smart charge, then you can use your solar in the day, then switch it back on again? The phone app doesn't appear to allow you to switch smart charge on and off in this way. I guess the desktop app does?
Yes. You can still switch it off in the App. press the button with head icon, top right, then devices, under device settings, intelligent octupus go,at the very bottom is smart charging on/off button.
Thanks for the video. Just moved over to IOG and have solar and battery. If the house battery is at 100% then solar production is exported at 15p per kWh. If you can charge the car at 7.5p why would you use solar that is worth 15p?
Because my existing export rate is higher from when i had my system installed years ago. Also that scheme is index linked & Tax free and guaranteed for another 11 years. Octopus could pull that 15p on a whim in the future.
Good video, will try. If IOG smart charging is switched off and trying to do a straight charge during the day on Zappi, I find it will only do 1.3kW not 7kW. Any ideas why it's getting restricted that way?
Cheers. If you have solar and in ECO+ mode then it will only charge with excess. If you want it to charge on full 7kw you have to switch the Zappi to fast. When IOG is enabled Zappi will always switch back to ECO+
@@evodessey Ah, that partially explains why 7kW was not available. Thanks! But it sounds like 7kW will never be available when the sun don't shine - unless there's another parameter somewhere defining the 1.3kW limit . . .
When you received your charging schedule, was this at the 7.5p rate even though some of the schedule was outside the cheap rate? Also, can you specify the car to charge during the whole of the cheap period by 'turning off' Smart Charging and using your Zappi app to set a scheduled charge for this period? Thanks for the video - was very helpful and clear.
Cheers. Yes it was at 7.5p. I actually charge mostly during the day now. Usually get 8am-12pm as a bare minimum most days and so does the rest of the house whilst charging. You only get the overnight hours if you turn off smart charging. And yes you can use the Zappi scheduler. I also schedule my Eddi to do hot water 4.30-5.30am.
@@evodessey thank you. So to use the full cheap rate hours, you could turn off Smart Charging and use the Zappi schedule for the cheap hours? I wondered because the Octopus app has 'taken over' the Zappi account if it would bar you from setting a Zappi scheduled charge - even with Smart Charging turned off? Your videos are excellet BTW.
@MarkDraper-wy4rd yes,the Zappi behaves as normal of smart charging is unchecked in Octopus app. If you do this you will miss out on bonus cheap rate before 11.30pm and up to 8am.
You have to sign up in the app by clicking request integration. The Beta test is not open to all yet. They will then eventually send you an invite asking you to join and then Zappi appears as an option in the App
Query. Just plugged in the EV6 into the Zappi. My cheap rate Octopus Intelligent charging sessions have come through on the app. Great. However the car is 90% full and will therefore complete the charge well within the additional afternoon sessions. I want to also run the washing machine and dishwasher this afternoon but will I still be on cheap rate after the car has finished charging but within the stated Octopus sessions.
I had the same thought myself yesterday morning.Check the devices section in the Octopus App to see if the charge schedule is still saying you are in the cheap rate zone. If the schedule has gone then i would say not. If the car has charged to 100% it may well signal back to Octopus to remove the charge slots. I know if i plug the charger in i get the charge slots through and if i unplug before the charge is due they disappear. I will have to test myself.
Hi, great video. I just joined Octopus Intelligent today and it gave me a charging schedule from 11pm to 8am... does this mean it's cheap electricity between these times??
There has been much debate on this. You will definitely get the whole house on cheap rate from 11.30-5.30am. If you are plugged in and charging i think you do as well. The itemised bill does not discriminate between car & house use. If you ask Octopus they say you won’t others say you will. I still think you will as long as the schedule still appears in the App & you are within the time period. If you unplug the car the schedule disappears and so does your cheap rate. That’s the way i see it.
Thanks for the video. I have a Zappi version 1, solar panels and a storage battery. It was suggested that the Intelligent would use the battery to charge the car which is not what I want at all. Do you have any information on that 'claim'?
The way it works on IOG is that it just sends a boost to the Zappi. It’s just sitting in ECO+ mode waiting for surplus so i can’t see why it would trigger the battery to discharge.
I think it depends on how your battery is wired in. I have a Powerwall with whole home backup. This means that the battery is used outside of the 11.30 to 5.30 window, which means I can’t use the Smart Charging function as OIG does not integrate (yet?) with the Tesla app. Instead, I just set preferred times in my car and only charge in the off peak window. To resolve the issue I could wire up the charger outside of the whole home backup but this would prevent me from using charging on solar. Fortunately this wouldn’t be a problem as Octopus pay 15p per kWh export and during off peak I import at 7.5p, meaning I would gain 7.5p per kWh by not using solar to power the car!! 😊 I am still thinking this over before implementing though so any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks for another interesting video Brian. Do you need to update to V5 Firmware for this integration to work smoothly and does demand side response (DSR) need deactivating so it doesn't conflict with Octopus's control of the Zappi? My set up is similar to yours - RWD GTLS, Zappi V2, solar and battery. I signed up for the DSR trial with myenergi last year (haven't noticed any delayed charging must be said) and have put off V5 update given all the problems.
Cheers. I’m on version 5 firmware and i’m not actually sure it’s a requirement. I think the DSR has to be turned off yes. There is a Zappi support document somewhere if i can find it. Will have a dig.
@@evodessey Thanks for the link, wasn't aware of that. I've bitten the bullet and updated to V5 firmware - no problems (why was I so hesitant!) and app seems more responsive. Just wait now for the full Zappi/Octopus rollout. Thanks again.
Were you using Kia Connect for Intelligent Octopus Go before the Zappi direct connection?. If so then you need to go into the Octopus App and remove the integration otherwise it will not work. The new method does not need Kia Connect. If you run through the Zappi checklist there may be one or more settings stopping it working. The checklist:- support.myenergi.com/hc/en-gb/articles/18470101583377-Zappi-Intelligent-Octopus-Go
Are you not aware of the existing problematic Octopus Kia Integration which polls the car way too often leading to countless fully drained 12v batteries which needed replacing? This issue had been going on for a good while now. The Kia inntegration has been very troublesome and is hardly ever available on the Octopus site because of the issues. Going the charger route is way more reliable and you can charge any EV on the charger.
Set the Car with the biggest battery in the Octopus App. In my case EV6 then anything else plugged in just gets treated like it’s got an EV6 battery. I guess you could try and guess the % required and lower the setting in the Octopus App as well. That would stop wasting available charging slots for other IO users.
You can gain access by requesting an Integration in the Octopus App by going to the explore the lab section - Select Intelligent Octopus Go for EV’s - Chargers - Get started button - Request an Integration. If you can’t get to this because you already have it you could ask via Octopus Customer services maybe. Once requested you may eventually get the invite email.
Hi great video on setting up your new tariff, i have a few questions for you though, do you have storage batterys? and do you have a CT on them? I noticed on your app that it was showing a solar array. which setting in the Zappi did you configure to get that icon to show? did you then set anything to stop the battery drain, if you have a storage battery. I have storage and solar and obviously want to use the cheap overnight charging during the winter months when there is no sunlight worth speaking of. I have read and watched so much about battery drain that i'm trying to sort my system out to minimise battery drain as my house uses that during the day (i harvest during the cheap rates to fill the batterys). Have you any pointers in how to achieve this, and how have you wired your Zappi into your house, ie have you gotit coming off a henley block prior to the inverter CT with the zappi CT being placed between the meter and the henly block? alot of questions but thanks for your help. Paul
Hi Paul, I don’t have storage. Just Solar. I bought an extra CT clamp from Myenergi. It’s hard wired into one of the CT Inputs on the Zappi. You then have to configure the CT in the Zappi menus. You have to tell the Zappi what your CT is monitoring whether it’s Solar incoming or Battery storage. There are lots of different options in the config menu for different types of device you can monitor. Zappi has 2 CT inputs. Eddi also has 2 inputs. You can also do it wirelessy with a Harvi. Once you’ve configured the CT and type & current direction then the new devices will appear in the MyEnergi App. My CT for the solar is clamped around the wire that comes from Solar inverter into the top of the Consumer Unit.
@@evodessey thanks for that, it’s a journey for sure. I’ve just ordered 2 CT clamps from Myenergi so one will get installed asap. Hopefully I can get the battery drain issue sorted before it drains everything. Many thanks for your help.
Is the 80% in the app what you actually want the car to finish at which is why you had additional hours of charging given? I only ask as when the EV6 initially worked with Octopus you entered in what charge level you wanted at the end of the charge and octopus worked the charge hours to achieve this. You set the car to 100% so not to confuse the octopus takeover.
I think that figure is for Octopus to calculate how many half hour slots you will require for boosts. Octopus and Zappi cannot tell your %SOC so the car has to say no with it’s set charge level to stop it. I need to do more research and dig a bit deeper i think.
No it is instruction IO that you want to add 80% of capacity to the car then IOG estimate how much energy that is. IOG via the Zappi has no idea what the SOC of the car is.
@@evodessey Thanks for replying, spoke to them today 4 times couldn’t get anywhere. I’ve had to raise as a complaint, they don’t seem to have any tech support for when things go wrong, under normal circumstances I find them a good company.
Hi Brian I have Solat Panels and a Battery I am trying to set up Octopus Intelligent. My Octopus App does not give me the option to choose MyEnergy. Just my EV6. D you recommend Octopus Intelligent be setup on Charger or car. My wi car is a VAUXHALL MOKKA X, and my contact at Octopus says that if I install Octopus Intelligent on my EV6, I can still get the 7.5 for my wife's car if I setup the zappi for 23:30 to 05:00 Car or Charger? What do you recommend?
The Octopus Zappi in still in Beta, you have to register interest in the Octopus App by clicking request Integration.Zappi integration is the way to go if you value your EV6 12V battery
Hallo! My name is Roy and i live in Sweden, i just got a letter from kia about the iccu and that i must come and check the iccu unit and to replace it and the iccu-fuse if it is not ok but if there is nothing wrong with it then only an update! Do you think that i shall demand them to replace it even if there is nothing wrong with it? Skickat från min iPhone
Hi Roy,they will only replace if they find a certain error code in the ICCU. They will then have to order the part in as that’s part of the Warranty claim process. They will update the software which should help prevent the failure.
Just to check where it says "charge to add +80%" I take it thats an additional 80% not TO 80%. Also, you say you aim to charge from solar in the day. On Intelligent surely you should be aiming to only charge overnight at 7.5p and export all your solar given you get 15p for that?
I’m still on a 20 year feed in tariff so i don’t get 15p for now anyway. The 80% is assuming the car is empty. It has no way of telling what the cars actual state of charge is
@@evodessey Thanks I didn't realise that but just checked my Wallbox its the same. So in my case I'd probably set that to 40% since thats what I do now, 4 hours on Go adds exactly 40% so its very easy for me to not charge my battery to 100%, i just don't start charge until i get to 50% or so. (I will charge to 100% if on a long trip that morning)
Just for the record since I've now got solar and battery, and moved to IO (from standard Go) I have set the app to have the max amount to be added to 50% (this is justa guess by octopus as to what 50% is it cannot monitor / know) and set a charging limit on AC of 90% in my Kia Soul.
It's asking you how much you need to put in the car,it uses your car model type to calculate how many kWh to allocate. It can't see your cars current state of charge so it's for you to adjust to what you actually need. I'm on an historical feed in Tariff which is higher than Octopus 15p rate. I do use a mixture of solar and IO during the day if I'm in a hurry to charge though.
I want to switch to Intelligent Octopus but I don't have a smart meter. I've been trying for 6 months to get Octopus to install one but my house has a 3-phase supply and they don't seem to be able to geth the right installer to sort it out. They didn't show up for the first install appointment and on the second, the technician was only authorised for single-phase, despite me reminding them it was 3-phase prior to the visit. Anyone got any ideas how I can get this sorted out?
I find it best to contact them directly on Twitter (X). I always get an answer within on hour. I asked them about 3 phase and they say they have to book a specially trained engineer. They @octopusenergy on Twitter.
If you have solar on IO surely you want to export rather than charge your car? You can export at 15p and charge through IO @ 7.5p. The end of solar divert?
I’m on feed in tariff from 2015 which is indexed linked and much more than 15p per kWh. So it’s best to use what i generate. I also get paid the export tariff for anything i generate.
If you turn off smart charging in the app as you do not need to charge the car do you still get the cheap rate for other house utilities in the allocated time slots?
If you turn off smart charging the time slots disappear. If you unplug the car the time slots disappear. So i don’t think we get them if the car is not connected. I did a test last night charging my wife’s Zoe. That gave me slots until 8am this morning. The app said the schedule was still in place so i’m wondering if the cheap rate for the house is extended. I did boil a kettle on our electric induction hob at 7.30am and i did wonder if that would register in the energy usage for charging in the app but it did not. I’m going to have to ask Octopus the question. I’m planning a follow up video.
So you need car plugged in anytime you want cheap rate in house regardless if smart charging is enabled or not different from go then if iam understanding her reply correctly iam not on twitter orX as it now is
Hi! I live in sweden and i own s kia ev6 long range rwd, I don’t charge my ev6 with kia connectapp i do it with tibber, it’s a third party company and i spoke with kia sweden and they told me not to do that because tibber ask several hundred times my car and that drains my 12 volt battery so they suggested me to change my password on kia connectapp and only use kiaconnect to charge my car! Did you know that or what do you think i should do? Sorry about my bad english!
Ok thank you for your answer, so as i understand it i must change my chrger wich is a easee and then also change from tibber to octupus wich i dont think is possible in sweden! Ps. Thank you for very good information about ev6 that you are doing on youtube!!
Octopus are expanding around the world and acquiring other companies so you never know. They have had a big positive influence on the UK energy market. All the other suppliers are having to offer similar products to compete. Don’t worry about your English it’s probably better than mine.👍😄
You've asked octopus for 80% of you battery capacity which is 62.16KWh. What you should have done is ask for the 10 or 15 % you needed to get to the KIA's 80% limit. The Octopus app can't know the charge state of your car via the Zappi so it just tries to add the percentage of the registered cars battery capacity. That's why it works with multiple cars because if you set it to 80% it will try and add 62KWh to whatever is plugged in.

BMS linked to Head Unit update is very strange. Not heard of that before. There is a way to force roll back the head unit update to an earlier version. There is no connection to the car at all, the zappi can't even see the car so to speak. ALL control is only to the zappi. So no 12V drain via the Kia Connect app as previously achieved
Great news@@ianrobins5501 hopefully it will be out of beta soon
Love the video thanks. I have solar panels but doesn't seem to be connected to the charger. Any reason why and how can I get that set up?
Cheer. You need a CT clamp on the output from your Panels to see it in the Zappi app. I bought the wired CT clamp from Myenergy and wired into one of the CT inputs on the Zappi. You then have to set some configuration in the Zappi charger for it to appear.
Great information - thanks. When setting the Zappi app, I have it in Eco + but do ?I need it set on Manual, Smart or Schedule?
Cheers. Eco+ but I think it changes mode when under Octopus control anyway
Hi The Octopus app is still saying that I have a cheap rate between 11pm and 8am, so longer than the standard period. Car already fully charged.
I say go for it then. Only gotcha is the clocks changing by an hour tonight.
Where you on intelligent Octopus Go before switching to the Zappi beta version? I will be switching myself but am curious if you needed to delete something before starting the switch to the Zappi version.
This is really useful content and I appreciate the time you put into these videos.
Yes i was on Go before the switch. Only change i’ve made is disable my boost schedule on the Zappi.
I was already on Intelligent Octopus when I set up the Zappi for it. Works fine. EV6
Easy, open Octopus app, click your profile->settings->devices->smart charging (near the very bottom) you can turn it off and back on there.
@@evodessey Great, thanks for your help.
I have a Kia Niro EV and a Podpoint charger so still waiting for IO support
Did you did you do the request an integration thing on the Octopus app?
Still can't get onto it with my Zappi, have it for my tesla but want it on my Zappi instead...
They must be getting close to releasing. I’m using mine a lot during the day now to charge because of the windy days.
Thanks! But it sounds like 7kW will never be available when the sun don't shine - unless there's another parameter somewhere defining the 1.3kW limit . . .
Now let's hope IO sort out Hypervolt?
I’m know, I bought the Hypervolt specifically because the CEO talked specifically about smart integrations. Any idea what their issue is with IO?
Thanks I hope to be doing this in a few months time. Does your zap have a wifi connection? Or is it hard wired?
Newer Zappis have Wifi. My Zappi is from late 2019 and talks to the hub via proprietary wireless protocol
@@evodessey thank you very much.
@@evodessey sorry one more question if I may. Are the 'bonus' cheap session applicable to the house and car, or just the car?
I have the latest Octopus App loaded but do not see Zappi as a choice - only Ohme and Wallbox. Any idea why?
You have to sign up in the app by clicking request integration. The Beta test is not open to all yet. They will then eventually send you an invite asking you to join and then Zappi appears as an option in the App
Thank you. Done that, now we wait!!
I don’t have a battery so can’t test that. Does the battery normally discharge when charging from Solar on Zappi ECO+ mode?
@@evodessey Pretty sure it does not.
The way it works on IOG is that it just sends a boost to the Zappi. It’s just sitting in ECO+ mode waiting for surplus so i can’t see why it would trigger the battery to discharge.
@@evodessey Ok. Thanks.
Hi Brian
I have just downloaded a virgin Octopus App, and it can neither see my zappi or my EV6.
This is getting stranger
Will have a dig.
support.myenergi.com/hc/en-gb/articles/18470101583377-Zappi-Intelligent-Octopus
@@evodessey Thanks for the link, wasn't aware of that. I've bitten the bullet and updated to V5 firmware - no problems (why was I so hesitant!) and app seems more responsive. Just wait now for the full Zappi/Octopus rollout. Thanks again.
@harryfionas7386 I was also hesitant about version 5 and did wait a month or 2 before I did it. As long as you follow the upgrade notes all is good
Thank you, I've followed all these instructions and my car is still not charging, is the Kia Connect essential?
Were you using Kia Connect for Intelligent Octopus Go before the Zappi direct connection?. If so then you need to go into the Octopus App and remove the integration otherwise it will not work. The new method does not need Kia Connect. If you run through the Zappi checklist there may be one or more settings stopping it working.
The checklist:-
support.myenergi.com/hc/en-gb/articles/18470101583377-Zappi-Intelligent-Octopus-Go
Did you consider waiting for Octopus to qualify the EV6?
Are you not aware of the existing problematic Octopus Kia Integration which polls the car way too often leading to countless fully drained 12v batteries which needed replacing? This issue had been going on for a good while now. The Kia inntegration has been very troublesome and is hardly ever available on the Octopus site because of the issues. Going the charger route is way more reliable and you can charge any EV on the charger.
How does this / can this work with two cars? My wife and I have EVs, I've got the EV6 and my wife drives an MG5.
Set the Car with the biggest battery in the Octopus App. In my case EV6 then anything else plugged in just gets treated like it’s got an EV6 battery. I guess you could try and guess the % required and lower the setting in the Octopus App as well. That would stop wasting available charging slots for other IO users.
How do I get on the beta scheme for Zappi? Already have it through my tesla but Zappi would be better so I xam use eco+
Tried this today, was told I had to except terms and conditions, where are the terms and conditions?
I’ve no idea. It’s a while since i did my video. Yesterday they emailed me to remove my Zappi from the App and re-do it. No real reason given.
@@evodessey Thanks for replying, spoke to them today 4 times couldn’t get anywhere.
I’ve had to raise as a complaint, they don’t seem to have any tech support for when things go wrong, under normal circumstances I find them a good company.
Hi Brian
I have Solat Panels and a Battery
I am trying to set up Octopus Intelligent.
My Octopus App does not give me the option to choose MyEnergy.
Just my EV6.
D you recommend Octopus Intelligent be setup on Charger or car.
My wi car is a VAUXHALL MOKKA X, and my contact at Octopus says that if I install Octopus Intelligent on my EV6, I can still get the 7.5 for my wife's car if I setup the zappi for 23:30 to 05:00
Car or Charger? What do you recommend?
The Octopus Zappi in still in Beta, you have to register interest in the Octopus App by clicking request Integration.Zappi integration is the way to go if you value your EV6 12V battery
@evodessey Thanks, Brian
I will do it through the Zappi as I value my EV6 12V Battery
Ok thank you! And again i must say that your youtubechannel is fanastic👍🏻just keep on doing what you are doing
I’m sure i’ve heard of people having Smart Meters on 3 phase. I will ask around my contacts & get back to you.
I find it best to contact them directly on Twitter (X). I always get an answer within on hour. I asked them about 3 phase and they say they have to book a specially trained engineer. They @octopusenergy on Twitter.
They sent me this direct form for you octo.ps/nudge
@@evodessey Thank you Brian, I have left a message at that link.
@@evodesseyyou can change the export part of the FIT to get the 0.15 whilst retaining the generation part at the full rate. I have.
Wow, how do you that?
@@evodessey just ask Octopus.
@evodessey I have sent octopus an e mail asking the same question thanks for your reply
Sarah Go Green on twitter just answered the question as i asked Octopus. She says yes. As long as car is plugged in.
So you need car plugged in anytime you want cheap rate in house regardless if smart charging is enabled or not different from go then if iam understanding her reply correctly iam not on twitter orX as it now is
It would seem. Also got that confirmed from Dean Snelling
That's exactly what happened with the Octopus direct integration which is why the Zappi charger version is much better
Ok thank you for the answer and keep on doing all those great videos on youtube that you are doing!
🙏🏻👍🏻
You've asked octopus for 80% of you battery capacity which is 62.16KWh. What you should have done is ask for the 10 or 15 % you needed to get to the KIA's 80% limit. The Octopus app can't know the charge state of your car via the Zappi so it just tries to add the percentage of the registered cars battery capacity. That's why it works with multiple cars because if you set it to 80% it will try and add 62KWh to whatever is plugged in.
Very true but it was the very first time i’ve used it so i’m still learning. Good point.
I do think Octopus needs to explain this better. I supose that's what Betas are for. Thanks for doing the video.@@evodessey
@ThinkOfANumber68 agreed otherwise we are wasting potential charging slots that others could use I guess🤔
