- Short overview video for the Zappi EV charger from myenergi. Includes a "quick start guide" to using it. Simple stuff, once someone's explained it to you - I wish someone had explained it to me!
A clear, concise, informative video presented at a relaxed pace making it easy to digest.
Very informative video for someone who is about to buy a Zappi! Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Just had our Zappi fitted yesterday, so glad we came across your video. Brilliant presentation, informative, patient, and easy to understand. We too got a quote from myenergi and had little faith in the installer they recommended. We went with Octopus in the end and very are very pleased with the results.
Thank you so much for this. I've seen too many videos which have information flying past in a blur, delivered by presenters who sometimes seem more interested in selling themselves than in communicating properly.
Excellent video - really well explained. Thanks
Best video on the Zappi that I have seen. Excellent production, nice and clear, and thank goodness it was in panaramic and not portrait mode.
Would have liked inclusion of Boost control and some idea of what the 0 to 99KWh slide bar is for. (If you have LuxPower invertor, how about another video!)
Thanks for this suggestion. I wanted to keep things simple to start with. The Boost function seemed a bit niche to me, but the fact that you ask about it means that I should maybe make a follow-up video.
Thank you finally I found out more about the charging options on zappi 😊
A very informative video. I have a Zappi but no EV yet. The Zappi, Eddi & a new consumer unit, were all installed at the same time as our solar system to maximise the VAT savings. Next of the list is the EV but I'm still not sure exactly what model to go for. Either way I need to sort this soon to soak up our excess solar before the summer is over!
Considder early pre 2016 Tesla Model S or X check if it has the free Supercharging still (Tesla removes it if the car has gone back into the Tesla fleet anytime) Ive been running 135,000 miles since 2014 and honestly cant see me getting rid of this car ever having used Tesla free electrons on any uk road trips and solar at home.
@@slartybartfarst9737 It won't be a Tesla. Just don't like the look of them & the lack of buttons & no driver display are, IMO, a safety issue.
Our first EV will be for my wife so for her to make the transition to an EV it has to be similar to a "normal" automatic car. It will only be charged at home & cannot be too large.
So fast forward a couple of months & we got a used 22 plate Kona Electric in Ultimate trim with the 64kW battery with only 2,300 miles on it for 40% less than the price when new. Great compact SUV for around town & journeys up to 250 miles or further in summer. Gets charged at home from excess solar (when we have sun) or overnight on cheaper rate electric. Had some issue with the Zappi draining our house battery overnight but that's been fixed now with an update to our GE Inverter / battery.
Having driven 132,000 Tesla miles I would say your correct the UI is not as good as buttons however the reality is once set up 95% of what you do enroute is via voice, buttons on the wheel as the car learns the rest. Also the looks appeal to me I love the aero look as Citroën ds is one of my favourite cars plus comming from chrysler 300 the size of the S is not a problem for me and riding bikes I like the performance. The S with its tailgate and free supercharging is unique but so is my use case. As a tesla share holder I was relieved when the Model 3 and Y came out and super impressed with Kia and Hyudi products and MG. Tesla forged a path and as the market expands that will always be plenty to keep them in profit. The rest of the world will produce vehicles of more relevance. What I'm impressed with over these past 10 years is how many people such as yourself see the true potential of having the whole energy production system at home as well. I've powered my Tesla from home solar for 10 years and ok it's only 20 miles a day goes in the tank but that's 140 a week if I do more I free supercharge and have been doing for 10years!
Thank you. This was very helpful, really appreciate you producing this video
Glad it was helpful!
That was incredibly helpful. Thank you!!
Excellent video, as Zappi app user guide not very helpful. I have recently installed a battery for the house (to maximise use of low tariff electricity) and no solar. This confused the Zappi charger as it assumed that when the battery was discharging the electricity must be coming from solar. This meant it ignored the scheduled charge times and charged the car whenever I connected it to the Zappi. Myenergi helpline had a look at tis and the workaround to set the charger on ECO+ and 100% Green (leaf symbol). This seems to solved the problem.
Thank You. Very clear instructions on all the options.
Glad it was helpful!
Brilliant. Well done.
Love your car reg
🤣
Great video. Thanks
Great video thank you, can you confirm though the car on solar eco needs a minimum of 1.4kw surplus energy to start charging, it cannot do any less? Thanks
My understanding is that on Eco+ it does need a minimum of 1.4kWh. Someone else might be able to explain with more certainty, but I think this is to do with an industry standard, and cars needing this as a minimum - but maybe it's different for newer TVs...?
In Eco mode, the Zappi will take 1.4kWh whether from surplus or not, in order to ensure a slow, steady charge - though it will be accelerated as and when surplus is available.
thanks for the informative video! i got 1 question:
do you need to manually select the charging mode each time you plug in your car ?
isn't there a setting so he remembers which charging mode you used last time, or can you set a fixed charging mode each time you connect the car? :)
Simple answer: no. When you unplug the car, the Zappi will stay in the same mode until it's plugged in again. Just to be tidy, I tend to put it into Stop mode when unplugging, but I don't believe that's necessary. Charge on Eco mode, unplug, reconnect, and it'll be charging on Eco mode again.
Amazing video, thank you.
I really like it and would like to get one.
I have a rolec charger at the moment, do you think the cable has to be replaced as well or can I replace just unit charger ?
In other words i am wondering if the cable you are using is a data cable or just a standard charger cable.
I do have solar panels installed.
Thanks - and apologies for the slow reply. The answer is that I don't know. There's a data / ethernet cable connecting the Zappi to the internet, and there's a separate charging cable which, in our case, is tethered to the Zappi. I believe there are untethered options, so you might be able to use your own cable, but I'm just a home user, not a tech specialist or sales rep!
Please confirm eco plus when you charging with solar energy...it would mean you are not sending that energy to grid so you get paid less for the feed in tarrif payments?
nice tutorial, thank you
Great stuff
Thank you
Add another ct clamp so you will get your solar showing on the app
Thank you. This is a good idea. We are now aiming to get a couple of CT clamps fitted so we can see both solar and battery. As you say, this should show on the myenergi app, which would be very helpful.
Wrong information,
It doesn’t take 2 days to charge on a 3 pin charger, around 15-20 hours,
Also with a wall charger it doesn’t take a few hours it takes around 7 hours,
7kw is fast== lol
7kWh is fast in relative terms, compared with the other charging options on a standard Zappi, eg 1.4kWh. That's a fact, and it doesn't help or inform anyone simply to laugh at it.
Obviously, it isn't as fast as 22kWh, which can be achieved with a 3-phase (32A) installation, or as fast as public 25 kW DC chargers with CCS or CHAdeMO connectors, such as can be found at motorway service stations. If you're having to break a journey to charge your car, it's good to know that it's possible to do so at almost four times the speed of your standard 13A domestic charger.
If you've got one of these rapid chargers installed at home, good for you, but most people don't.
Worse thing about my Zappi? The complete absence of any quick start, user guide, anything!! What the f*** do they expect users to do? Study the massive technical manual?? Typical of modern products designed and made by complete 12 year old geeks who naturally assume all users will be as tech savvy as them. Zero stars for the company.
what is better to take 22 or 11? I mean if i buy 22 i can still charge 11..
Sorry, I don't really understand this...
