    Dirk busted his azz for 12 years to win that title. And he did it just as much for the organization that drafted him as he did for himself. That kind of loyalty and work ethic is unheard of in the super team era.

Not even taking into account the amount of mileage tony has on him due to playing in the NBA and French national team for years. What kind of a big 3 is that when kawhi Leonard and Boris Diaz average more minutes than tony Parker and Manu Ginobilli in the playoffs respectably.

    • @arsonhakobyan
      @arsonhakobyan 6 лет назад +19

      I'd say him & Wade basically cancelled each other out in that series, and the difference was just that Lebron chocked while the Mavs' supporting cast members played to near the peaks of their abilities. Heat were more top-heavy, while Mavs were the more complete team, but in all honesty, if the Heat don't choke away the big Game 2 lead in the 2nd half, that series was headed for a sweep. Mavs deserve credit for being resilient, disciplined, unselfish, and finishing games strong towards the end of the year in 11'. But that really was one of the least likely champions of all-time, doing it w/ an aging squad, w/ only 1 bonafide superstar. The 94' Rockets did it w/ only one bonafide superstar, but the teams they were facing in the playoffs that year were a tad less top-heavy, they had a lights-out defense (11' Mavs didn't), and their supporting cast was a bit younger. Also, Olajuwon's top-15 all-time, Nowitzki's top-30. Ironically, both teams got help w/ the #8 seeds knocking off the 1-seeds in the playoffs. Nuggets upsetting the Super Sonics in 94', and Grizzlies over the Spurs in 11'. I don't think the 94' Rockets would've fared well against the trapping Sonics, or 11' Mavs against the well-oiled Spurs. 04' Pistons had no bonafide superstars, so they may have been a tad more unlikely than 11' Mavs, despite their lights-out defense. 06' Heat, ironically the team that beat a similar Pistons team to the 04' version, and similar Mavs team to the 11' version, though lost to the Mavs in 11', I felt were a bit of a surprise w/ an old Shaq, Payton, Mourning & Walker, and no home court advantage in the final two rounds. I'd still say the 06' Heat were just slightly less of a surprise than the 11' Mavs, since they did have two bonafide superstars (Shaq was still a contender for just that one last final season, though no longer an MVP candidate), they won only 52 games, but their physical style on both ends of the floor was favorable for the playoffs, Pat Riley was their coach, though it ultimately took Wade being at his absolute apex + favorable officiating to barely squeak by the 64-win Pistons, and especially the 60-win Mavs in the Finals. 95' Rockets had to be the most unlikely, cause they had no home court advantage in any round.

      Excuses. Better team won. Mavs were dominant all season and their 2nd best scorer missed whole playoffs. They were ending every hot team streaks. Only reason they weren't #1 seed was cause Dirk/caron got injured . It was never that close.

    *Dallas Mavericks fan:*
    The Dallas Mavericks have always been one of the most doubted teams. And yet, they continue to prove everybody wrong!
    Did you forget what they did in 2011?! If you did, here's the answer:
    1 - *No one expected them to be in the Playoffs.*
    (They proved everybody wrong).
    2 - *No one believed they can win a Playoff series.*
    (They proved everybody wrong).
    3 - *No one believed they can beat the then-defending champion Los Angeles Lakers.*
    (They proved everybody wrong). #SweepedTheChamps
    4 - *Everyone predicted that they wouldn't be able to stop that "very talented" Oklahoma City Thunder team.*
    (They proved everybody wrong).
    5 - *No one... believed or expected them to win the NBA Finals, against the ''super-team'' in Miami Heat.*
    You already know the answer to that, but i'll say it anyway:
    The Dallas Mavericks shocked the world by beating that Miami Heat squad!
    *Dallas wins series 4-2.*
    I agree that after that championship season, things haven't been going our way; we've lost too many games, we've lost the rhythm we once had... but, we are still hanging on... we are still going strong, and this year will be no different.
    I believe in that Mavs team. I'm not a bangwagon fan, because the Mavs were the team that got me into basketball in the first place. I wear that Dirk Nowitzki jersey, (for which i had been saving money for months) with pride and respect!

    Today you learn about one of the most disrespected NBA champions of all time, not because people talk negatively of them, but because, well, people rarely talk of them at all unless it's to discredit the Miami Heat.
    Because of that, people pay no attention to anything the Mavs did before that finals, or before that post season as a matter of fact. Enjoy! Like comment and sub if you did.

    I'm seeing the question if Dirk should be considered as one of the best to ever play...he's 5th all time in points and if he stays healthy in his final year next year, can't believe I'm saying that, he'll be 4th all time. damn straight he's right up there with the best, he didn't go ring chasing like a bitch either. Dirk created his own brand and worked hard for the ring he got. He'll have spent 20 years with the Mavs once next season starts and developed the most impossible shot to guard in the history of the NBA. He's among the top 3 PF's in history easily. The amount of points he has suggests top 2, top 3 is being generous.

    This also ties in to Dirk being underrated as a player. I mean, his value is mainly on one side of the ball but it's clear that when this guy was at his best he was absolutely unstoppable. And he's the only player in NBA history about whom you can say that he's one of the greatest post scorers of all time, but he's also one of the all-time greatest three-point shooters. You can compare him to both guys like Hakeem AND Ray Allen in terms of his offensive impact and skill set.

    • @furryhoof1865
      @furryhoof1865 6 лет назад +1

      Hakeem's arsenal of post moves was overwhelming. shimmies, shakes, up and unders, spin left, spin right, fakes, hooks, dunks and a poetic fade away. Dirk relied mostly on one post move. It was a virtually unstoppable move, but i dont think their offensive skill sets are comparable. Allen for most of his career had a way more diverse skill set as well. I would say that Dirk shared just one very specific skill from each of those players: Hakeem's fade and Ray's 3 point shooting, which are amazing skills to have.

I say that from the disrespect from not only the national media (cough ESPN) that only talked about how LeBron & the Heat choked instead but also every popular NBA RUclipsr (except Dom2k) that said that Miami should of won and that Dallas got lucky. I've been saying this, but yet no one pays attention to how great the mavs were that entire playoff run. All people point out about the year of 2011, is how bad lebron choked, and yes while he did infact have a horrible overall performance in the finals, no one gives enough credit to the mavs. Dirk did not win alone.. those "role players," played great, and the addition of Tyson Chandler put the Mavs over the top. They needed that defensive presence. Which is why getting a Dwight Howard post 2011 would've done them wonders MAYBE.

      Exactly people forget they shut down LeBron not that LeBron choked on his own they did something that no NBA team has done

      Devin Baker right. They rattled him, and rick carlisle doesn't get enough credit either. Hes one of the best coaches in the NBA.

    This was easily the best playoff run in NBA history. And Probably the best individually in Dirk. Think about it like this, when it's all said and done, I'm confident in thinking Durant, Harden, Westbrook, Kobe, Lebron, and Wade will all be considered better players than Dirk by the time their respective careers are over. And Dirk destroyed all of them, by himself.

    • @razkable
      @razkable 5 лет назад

    • @Prodigial

      Putting Wade, Westbrook, and Harden over Dirk? Are you crazy? None of those three are anywhere NEAR Dirk! Lebron, Kobe, and Durant you could make a case for (although I'd say Durant really hasn't proven anything considering he had to go to Golden State for a ring and somehow couldn't win with OKC when they were a top 4 team numerous years in a row), but to mention Wade, Westbrook, and Harden over Dirk is just insulting.

    • @dusk6159
      @dusk6159 5 лет назад

      @caveman Yogi This comment deserves a debunking because it's neither the best playoff run of all time (94' or 95' Rockets are) nor the best individually (94' Hakeem is with the closest case of one player carrying a team to the championship, even though we have many, Lebron on top of all, carrying of teams to seasons and playoffs for even years), and your statement is true (well maybe aside Westbrook or probably Harden too, even though we're not even close to their career ends like your point was, so we'll see even though it will be no easy task for them to surpass Dirk's level) and in fact should put a question in your mind, how did Dirk defeated to destroyed them by himself if he wasn't even better than them let alone against their teams too?
      Because of course he didn't by himself while carrying the Mavs, Mavs 11' was a top tier squad job, absolutely not a carrying by Dirk, 04' Ben Wallace disguised as Tyson Chandler, Jason The Jet Terry, The Matrix Shawn Marion, JJ Barea and Jason Kidd had great performances, they were beasting not getting carried lol.
