It's a great strategy that works in any ELO. When you're high ELO your games are still difficult because you get high ELO opponents, but disconnecting rewards you just as much as at low ELO.
I'm trying to get into the game again, and I've been practising Roman scouts into halb + scorpion against the AI until I can reliably beat moderate so that I don't have to get curbstomped so many times when I start playing. Maybe I should pick another civ.
I don’t play much these days but the last game I played I won doing exactly this. It was a team game, fast castle, dropped back to back castles on my opponent’s base and raided his teammate with my conqs. Easy dub, even functionally 1v2
Donjon Rush feels OP at Low elo and win rates Back it Up. Just going for one strong melee unit directly defending against attacks of the donjon also helps.
This is a cuman main here. Try stopping 3 feudal rams + 4 archers. It’s an all in. All food workers switch to gold and wood. And the banked food is for new farmers. The double range archers will need constant reinforcements and when affordable the attack upgrade. Most people quit out right when they hear the alarm. Some try to repair the tc and shoot down the rams. This strategy doesn’t work however when they just relocate or do a base race, because I won’t recover from loosing my lumberjacks. Probably one of the funniest things was when my opponent went for castleage and i destroyed his tc before he could get it. He was done spent all his resources to get to castle age and trying to save his tc.
I think the biggest push is to play the game how you like it, and if you can find the perfect build in your playstyle, dont let the pros or the meta define what you really are. Play the game how you like it! That's what it's all about!
Armenians do full infantry play pretty well too. Little surprised not to see feudal age longswords or castle age champions make an appearance in the list.
For Armenians better choice for castle age are warrior priests, for low elo seemingly uncounterable, with decent stats, heals and ability to take all relics before opponent.
@@brentanderson8460 part of the point of low ELO strategies is that high cost isn't an impediment, 'cos the slower rate of progress of the game means that lower Elo players are usually floating much larger banks of res.
I am around 900 elo, and I stopped huskarl + pike spam few times using persian war elephants combined with thrashbows. War elephants destroy huskarls and small groups of pikes, with crossbows you kill monks and pikes if there is too much.
I did as well with the Vikings. Beserks hold up pretty well against the infantry spam. I just cycled groups of 30 out of my castles and let them heal over and over.
What I love about romans is that you dont need 2 upgrades to get Legionary wich is huge so once you are imp you get them very fast. Also the unic tech allows you to sorta spam them. Add couple of centurions and you can hard engage with the higher speed. One of my fav civs.
1st) You have to wall pretty tight, with houses. You can't miss your walling. Palisade is not enough, and leave no gap at all.. zero gaps. 2nd) you have to make at maximum 3 scouts, and go castle aswell. If you take too long, he will have advantage. You should reach castle at maximum 1 minute after. 3rd) When reach castle, make a TC in a woodline where you can defend part of your base, and make a monastery. 1 monk + wall stop his agression. Then you prepare to expand your economy, leave your base. If you're Cavalry civ, you can counter with knight + monk easily.. If he keeps spamming, I like to go cav + pike (only in castle pike + cav works, and with upgrades), MAKE SURE I HAVE GOOD WALLS, make 3rd TC, maybe 4th, and boom to imp.
I've had so much fun with Malian all in MAA/longsword strategies at 800-1000 elo, glad to see them getting some love! Always makes for an exciting match whether you win or lose. Started using it after losing badly to someone who went with that strat against me and the person explained how to counter it, which I always appreciated
tower rush is in my opinion a bit advanced for low elo and invites mistakes in execution, huns all in knights or all in CA without getting housed is a really strong play that allows the low elo player to make mistakes and focus on other things
As a low elo player myself, I think it's more about the reaction, not so much the execution. Yeah, you can mess it up, but if the opponent doesn't nail the reaction, then you are winning anyway.
How to stop Goth spam? Cataphracts! Pikes do very little damage, Husks and champs do about the same, and the Cataphracts perform even better in large battles. If Goths are full boomed, Byzantines should be as well.
one of the hardest things to learn is how to counter and recover from a rush. when I get castle rushed I just move into their base 90% of the time vills and all
Before I hung up my cleats as a low elo weekend warrior, I played a dirt nasty Goths feudal all-in. The goal was to use the huge carry capacity of Goth hunters to steal a boar with 3-4 forward vills then stick around and put up enough forward barracks that I could make constant maa with a direly stunted economy. I had tested the numbers necessary to brute force a fully garrisoned TC with just Maa. It was like 30 or so with Goths. So I just harass and try to deny wood gold and houses until I collected enough to dive the TC. Felt good when it worked. Strats that never worked were full stone wall Hun's boom and Korean boom. Also I used to try to wall-in my enemy on Africa nomad with stone walls but that almost never worked. I beat Goth huskarl/pike spam with Saracen market abuse CA+Mamelukes. But I always lost to Mongol steppelancer.
I am 1100 ELO and I stop Goths with all in xbow. When they get to huskarl, I trade my xbow for vils. Then go imp and go full hand cannoner. Also, I like byzantines, so Catas.
A streamer called "Hera" taught us the most important thing when being castle dropped is not to panic. So I stopped panicking and found out you can actually still win the game. At low elo chances are high that they rely heavily on that castle drop and they do not expect you to recover. Move your vils, raid, boom...it often works. What I do not have an answer for, is Mongols FC steppe lancers. I lose to that every single time.
If still in feudal and waiting for the castle, gotta resource wall with stone walls around gold and wood. Then mass enough camels/knights to repel the horde. If you spot it really early though, sending 2-3 archers with your own scout to harrass opponents wood vils would put its eco in a bad spot too.

The tower rush and castle drop are the same thing. You need a lot of stone-mining villagers and some units to escort builders to the enemy bases in both situations. I'd rather go knight rush like normal with Goths since they have FU knights in Castle Age and many low ELO players can't react fast enough if I split my knight to attack multiple locations in his wall. I once defeated a Byzantine player who all-in with Cataphract by sending Cavalier instead to crush his non-elite Cata on early Imp because he thought that Cataphract would crush Goth infantry and didn't train camel. And Saracen knight rush is actually quite good. They are FU and shared tech with both Camel and Mameluke, and they didn’t fall behind Cavalier much in the first 3 minutes of Imp
One of the few good counters to Mongols FC is Mongol scout rush lol. 18 pop scouts in their base and get in the wood line or delay the market going up or force a defensive tower so they can't sell the stone
For anyone wanting the easiest (but also most vulnerable to rams) castle drop, I’d recommend the Bulgarian Krepost drop. You put 8 on the stone the second you click castle, and you can place 5 krepost back to back without a pause to collect more stone. It’s incredibly easy and super annoying
I'm about 900 ELO (mid-ELO). I've used Saracen archer in tournaments against players who are a fair bit higher ELO than me and gotten good results with it (most extreme example: winning 500 ELO gap with only a 5% handicap). In team games, I think the #1 low ELO strategy would be Goth Condos. Roman full infantry: In early game, it can sometimes be countered by going infantry yourself (especially if you're an infantry civ) - missing supplies really hurts Roman MAAs. But that is more mid-ELO than low-ELO.

Celts infantry and siege rams. I tried this when I was new to the game and I never had an easier time winning games. The celts siege ram is so op along side the faster infantry. People going archers to counter it will have a tough time dealing with it.
Any civ with decent fully upgraded champ line can deal with goth late game comp, for some reason, low elo goth players seems to just refuse switching to hc.
roman fast castle into nonstop scrop spam is super strong you can hit castle on just the sheep + berries and boars after that 10 on gold 20 on wood and u can spam nonstop out of 4 siege workshops. I have had so many people just GG the moment they charge the scorps with their massive army only for it to get flattened
hp of buildings getting build should only increase quadratically imo. So a castle would only have 1%/9%/25% hp when it is 10%/30%/50% built. castle drops would finally be fixed
I'm in low elo and got teuton tower rushed twice so far. Won both times by just moving villagers away to collect resources elsewhere and just ignored the towers.
Honestly, iI feel like if you are goths going up against the teutons that seems like a bad matchup for the goth player. I'm not saying it's unwinnable especially at lower elo (which I am), but I'd be kind of depressed if I was matched against the teutons. The teutonic knights would absolutely shred most infantry, all else being equal. Going archers is not really a great option. Probably best bet to win is to rush imp and get hand cannoner/cannons.
Fast castle + any of these -Ballista elephant -War Wagon -Organ Gun -Hussite Wagon until you have the death ball, then move forward with trebs Because the counter are monks and siege and low elo players can't do that
Low ELO can't attack ground with siege, but they make it, and it's very hard to dodge siege with ballista elephants or organs even when your opponent doesn't attack ground. In low.elo vs low ELO they make siege vs those and counter successfuly
I win against 4 Castle strategy this weekend on gold rush map, but I must talk, that I play Bohemians against Byzantium... So I destroy his Cavalry and try waiting to Imp, build cannons + uprage to houfnica and win game ( but I must talk, that this was very hard )
900 elo (stopped playing for like a year or so. I'm getting the rust off. I was randoming and got goths versus franks. The dude went paladin and so I spammed halbs along with some huskarl to kill his vils, etc. I thought I was going to win this game for sure, but then I was shocked when this dude built a mass of scorpions. I got absolutely destroyed. I tried to build some cannons, but he just rushed the cannons with his paladin and suffered losses, but took them out and then I got absolutely destroyed by the scorpions. 0/10 would not recommend. The thing that made it worse is that I thought for sure I was going to win for so long.
Im a slightly higher elo like 900 and huskarl spam can be dealt with if u blindly go HC seeing a boom from the goth player. They can never do anything.
Phosphoru has ruined me. I sit at 1000 elo. I play normal I lose. I phosphoru, I win. I try to play normal and lose, get sick of losing so I play phosphoru and I win again so elo never drops. It’s a viscous cycle
Pulling a Morley rush(FC Mongol fast castle) is not that easy in around 800 elo I think. People usually have problem with deer pushing and improvising if smth is missing in their builds, its not gonna be as fast as intended.
How about roman fc scorpion rush. After reaching 15 units, they become basically unstoppable. With small numbers of light cav for meat shield and anti-mangonel
Number one strategy for low-ELO players: hope the opponent disconnects.
And that’s how I reached 1,000 elo. Never played a 1v1 RM since
i got from 950 to 1100 due to people mostly leaving. I mean i dont want to have a higher elo that fast :D

I just made teutonic knights
Honestly, iI feel like if you are goths going up against the teutons that seems like a bad matchup for the goth player. I'm not saying it's unwinnable especially at lower elo (which I am), but I'd be kind of depressed if I was matched against the teutons. The teutonic knights would absolutely shred most infantry, all else being equal. Going archers is not really a great option. Probably best bet to win is to rush imp and get hand cannoner/cannons.
That's the problem with gimmicky civs. You either hard counter or get hard countert
No middle ground
FINALLY Hera is showcasing my builds!!
Fast castle + any of these
-Ballista elephant
-War Wagon
-Organ Gun
-Hussite Wagon
until you have the death ball, then move forward with trebs
Because the counter are monks and siege and low elo players can't do that
Low ELO can't attack ground with siege, but they make it, and it's very hard to dodge siege with ballista elephants or organs even when your opponent doesn't attack ground. In low.elo vs low ELO they make siege vs those and counter successfuly
For me the best strategy is to build castle in defense area and try to go to lategame with hussar raid to economy. Because low elo cant defend
I was feeling so well with the intro beeing 14** myself and so bad when i realize i usually die to 3/5 the strats
Me watching this as a low elo player who lost a 3v1 against Hera where he went Romans full infantry
I win against 4 Castle strategy this weekend on gold rush map, but I must talk, that I play Bohemians against Byzantium... So I destroy his Cavalry and try waiting to Imp, build cannons + uprage to houfnica and win game ( but I must talk, that this was very hard )
cataphracts for goths?
GOOD GAME
Samurai shred Karls
Forgot the top two:
1. Low Elo Franks Abusers;
2. Low Elo FC Phosphorus 😂wannabes;
Phosphoru has ruined me.
I sit at 1000 elo.
I play normal I lose.
I phosphoru, I win.
I try to play normal and lose, get sick of losing so I play phosphoru and I win again so elo never drops. It’s a viscous cycle
*laughs in Mongol Step Lancers until the Goths show up*
All in M@A as romans with tower on their gold sure is yummy.
All in knights are also really strong in lower elo!
I cannot believe that castle drop in your face isnt nr 1.
Pulling a Morley rush(FC Mongol fast castle) is not that easy in around 800 elo I think. People usually have problem with deer pushing and improvising if smth is missing in their builds, its not gonna be as fast as intended.
below 1800 i think you can climb 200 elo with the teutons touche, i'm average elo since 2002 i have fun
How about roman fc scorpion rush. After reaching 15 units, they become basically unstoppable. With small numbers of light cav for meat shield and anti-mangonel
honorable mentions: play Brittons archers
Im glad that the Romans finally get the attention they deserve. Love that civ 😁
Great strategies
