Damn i cringed so hard when i see the replay now.
I started playing Saracens at that moment and did not know or forgot about the stable upgrades for mamelukes.
But after 20 days playing more and watched a few more videos of yours, iam normally at 130 to 150 vills and dont stop at 100, like in the replay.
Making Farms faster is a good tip and i use the market now alot.
To be fair, i should have lost the match, but i think the enemie was a beginner like me.
So far 23 wins and 8 losses with saracens and iam now at 1032 elo.
Fun fact: i wanted to break out sooner out of my walls, but i unbinded my del hotkey, so i had to search it mid game 😂
Congrats man, I understand that in the moment it might seem a bit nerve wracking but you pulled through. I learned a lot from Hera’s commentary
hi, Im a new player recently started playing this game, im learning a lot by watching these videos. the in game commentories were very helpful even to a complete newbie like me. im yet to win my first ranked game , maybe ill try to win today only.
@@rosamente thanks, these little tipps make the difference!
part of improving is watching your own recs and allowing yourself to cringe then when you're all alone and then immediately identifying what you could have done that *would not have* made you cringe. protip
Had you opened with scouts and got in a good harassment of villagers with 4 of em (3+starting scout) instead of archers your opponent would have panicked and made probably too many spears. you could have followed this up then with the same you did--full 1 range archers. with their +3bonus to spears they simply shred right thru them. this would have allowed you to not float as much Food in Castle (an issue I used to have when I only played Vietnam and literally went 1range archers every time)
despite the fact that my ELO has largely remained the same (even gone down a bit over a few years) I have improved at the game a lot, but so has everyone else. you did many things well. your micro indicates you've been watching a good number of fights on youtube or twitch :D
Go in with a plan and use your Civ bonuses every time. It's crucial that you know which are your strongest Civ bonuses and then dig your heels into the strategies that make the most of them. never begin a match saying "i'll just wing it." Always know how you're going to win, but remain flexible (give yourself options). Saracens is a great Civ for this (one of my faves -- the camels are very strong, the archers do bonus damage to buildings and the market trading is ultra cheap).
remember these three crucial rules:
1.) *N E V E R* let your TC(s) go idle, especially your first one; keep your villagers working
2.) spend wood as soon as you get it, but remember to have a building order plan; between placing buildings needed to click to Castle build a farm every 60 wood until you have 18 asap
3.) *Remember* to click DoubleBitAxe the moment Feudal arrives, and AgeUp as soon as it's possible to do so safely (the more time you are in CastleAge before opponent the more likely you are to win)
-Its your basic MBL army - HAHAHAHHAHA
I giggled at that moment 😅
content idea:
there is one guy on the global leaderboard with more than 16.000 ranked games (no1 of the leaderboard of most played ranked games). He's hard stuck at 1000 elo, currently 954. gift him a free coaching to get out of the elo hell
He probably has a similar mindset to me, why improve?
Like seriously, the games are gonna get less and less fun the more you improve.
I am 1000 elo after 700 games. I dont have a BU or hotkeys etc.
@@Aarjalane I agree, some enjoy the idea of improvement, but you put yourself under pressure. some enjoy playing the campaigns, some community games, some at a low elo where you can do any strat and it be viable. some at high competive play and everything inbetween. play how you enjoy
omg in 5 years this will be me
@@Aarjalane Plot twist: game gets more enjoyable the more you understand it.
i.e. not blundering a piece immediately vs not blundering a 5-move tactic
Why, he is at his elo having fun.
Fellow sub-1k here, I can relate so hard to this player's floating resources. I wish the dev's would let us build a bonfire so I could passively burn away my excess wood.
Yeah, you have to do that, that and that, Boom 1000 Wood 😂
Bonfire tech - +4 building LOS for 1 wood/sec
That bonfire exists and it's called the market. Especially with Saracen 😂
@@skipper472 Sub 1k here too, but that was my first reaction. "Wood isn't a currency man, you can't spend that." "Ummmm... ...Saracens?". But yeah, that's villager time better spent elsewhere, there's just a lot to do in the game and I can't manage it efficiently.
23:45 *insert MBL screaming GO UP TO IMP*
Respect to you man for being the #1 player in the world right now! It feels like you're the most dedicated to the game now too. Makes me wonder which came first?
Dedication creates excellence, but also being the best, it's in your best interests to make aoe2 as popular as possible to increase your winnings 😮
dedication first results second. Thats always the order things happen in
#1 at the game and quickly taking the spotlight for top coach.
with all of the free deals Hera gives out to his contributing audience and patrons he's actually single-handedly redefined the ability to access top level coaching. just 5-8 years ago people used to pay hundreds of dollars for an hour of coaching and a rec review similar to what we see Hera provide to all for free. Very cool
I firmly believe that the reason the aoe2 community has become so much better throughout the years is because of Hera's passion for the game and consistent charitable imparting of his knowledge and skills to all who wish to learn.
That’s Daut
As long time watcher of AoE tourneys can confirm Heras answer.
The community has been screeching since at least 2018 from what I can remember that Hera will be super good. The results weren't there yet, but hera we are. (Pun fully intended)
Instant like - one spear advice super helpful
Honestly, it’s an honor to have a helping Hera hand in this hour. Can be hard to learn by yourself as a hobbyist of the game. Hope you’re having a helluva day.
*Hugz*
I learned today: if you go for archers, be quick with the farms, but don't overdo it. Switch to knights with two stables
Hera I am brand freaking new to this game but I have played plenty of RTS games over the years. Your guides are FANTASTIC- probably a little above my level for now, but there's plenty to learn from. Your dedication to this game is insane! Keep it up!
Loved this content Hera, more please!
yes please do a video on the one spear because when I do make it somehow always ends up the opposite of where the opponent scout shows up
Missed the opportunity to have Shia Labouf for the "just do it" meme.
Also, as a low elo player who watches a lot of videos, it is very hard not to lure deer. We see it done so often that we want to try lol
Tbh getting to 1k is easy. Just do the same OP bo (Mongol scout into lancer) and ur good... Kinda sad tbh... Or just find a niche strat (phosphoru) on a map people usually dont ban (not arena/arabia) n youll rise elo lol
@@arn0000 I think most people saying they are sub-1000 ELO want to be good enough to be 1000 ELO across most matches, not using just a single strat.
@@najarvis could be true ngl, but that wont hppen overnite unless peeps resign in feudal at the sight of army which they shouldnt after800 elo tbh. theres just a LOT of different civs to master if u wanna get decent in late-game too and macro + micro balance... the games hard lol
@@najarvis that's exactly what i'm doing
It was perfect, thank you. Give us more of such content! 🤗
valuable rec review, Hera! i think most of the community is mired in the 1k and sub1k range. back in the day everyone was 1300+ ez, but all players are just so much better these days.
these recs in the 850-1150 value are so appreciated. ty.
Your commentary? Spot on! Thank you for voicing early food float as "an archer player issue." It very much is.
Vids like these are definitely making everyone better!
great help this kind of videos. thank u for what u do
Just got back into this game after like 20+ years. these videos are super helpful
love all your videos Hera
Awesome video thank you
From my humble point of view, around 1000-1200 elo is good time to start luring one deer if you can manage, it really gives a nice eco boost especially on fcs or closed maps, but scouting the opponent on arabia should be the priority
agreed. today's modern game almost demands that you lure at least 1 deer. it's kinda something you really wanna just practice until it's not a challenge any more. you can totally get to 1350+ games with never luring a deer, but it's growing less and less standard to see such things as time goes on.
More of these please Hera!
Great video and its really good for low elos it has many information to implement in my own gameplay
great video, more like this please
MORE VIDEOS LIKE THIS!!
The 1k food while on archers is so relatable! It happens to me so frequently and is part of the reason I am more of a cav player 11
Thanks for the video Hera!
same. i used to solely go archers with a few skirms mixed in and i'd end up selling food and then going up to Imp 😆
When I don't have any reason to keep the food, I like to get some random light cavs on the field. It's annoying to deal with, usually ends up being a meat shield for my archers, and you can even set one or two on auto scout. I like using even Teutons scouts when I play them, it looks stupid but it's funny to me. I just like the fact that light cav only costs 1 ressource, which makes it easier for my smooth brain.
at 18:20 he had the perfect chance to take a few shots at the vills building that castle before retreating. if you're watching and you can't see a mangonel around, always try to take that chance tbh
I am back into the game after 20+ years off. I’ve learned a lot from this and will try some of the strategies!!! You’re a very good teacher (I should know cuz I am one!).
As someone who just started playing this game all this advice is so helpful, can’t wait to try it all in my own games
AoE2 community is lucky to have you.
Great video! But, man, feudal age is so hard, build orders only get you to feudal not past it 1111
I feel like the feedback here is invaluable to the community. I can see so many of these mistakes in my game and recently learning to spend more efficiently, particularly in Feudal early castle. Vids like these will help a lot of people i’m sure!
I really respect someone being at the top of their game and still always helping others get better and not holding back any tips.
solid makelukes! love to see it
I used to build university beforehand too, just because I'm afraid to forget it at all, thus when I will need ballistics so bad, I will only start to build university, then I will get distracted and have hard time keeping in mind I still need to research the tech :)
Thanks for letting me know all the things I need to avoid so I never leave the beautiful pre 1000 elo wonderland
This is so helpful - I am at 950-1000 and my Rec will likely be a clone of this in many aspects. Very helpful
A "wooden car" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
More vids like this plz
I think you could continue the road to 2000 elo series with these type of videos

Keep those W Mamelukes coming.

@@Krecikdwamiljony building up res for imp (when it's the right time) and floating resources is inherently differrent. the point hera is making is clear imo
I like the live coaching more than the rec review, maybe do both ?
Love the MEMELUKE
Mameluke comment! Really enjoyed this one, thank you!
11. I saw the tittle and came thinking "Oh lets see and chill...hes gona teach some noob to place farms and lure boars" but frankly most of the tips i found useful even to my gameplay. Useful information to even below 1500
27:48 The best time to kick a man is when he's down.
i didnt love the mameluks but now i do ^^
"this is basically the average MbL Army" 😂👌 21:08
Master Boar Lamer catching strays
Sword fight him… pause… fight him with a metal sword (27:58) 😂😂😂
GOOD GAME
Why houses at the back?
At what minute do you start making farms?
"Oh, that's subscriber for the Twitch stream, and I'm not even streaming" 😁
the walls at 5:37 are actually so bad, it:
saves no wood
creates weakpoints in the corner pieces
gives less space inside the base for farms or buildings
exposes the gold
Yes, i had no idea how to place these walls, there was no wood in the back. So i just placed them.
I thought about Shia labeouf, when I saw the thumb nail. JUST DO IT
I love playing mamelukes
Hera if I don't lure deer at 1500 I get cooked by my opponent who picked mongols and is up at pop 17
Great video. I am 63, been playing for 25 years and under 1000 elo. I playing the best using shortcuts etc. Still rubbish though 😊
What app is Hera using to review recording ?
capture age
it,s funny i have been playing for 6 months and 4 months of ranked, for 3 months i stayed 800-900 elo. But than i watched t90's red phosphoru vids. because of these vids i tried some streamlined fast castles and reached 15-16min castle age times and jumped up 200 elo because of it. fasted castle age time -> wins.
Blue catching strays watching this video like 👀
With which tool does he watch the game, looks different when I watch my games again
Mameluke W
you kid, but we could actually use a video covering the full gambit of Strengths and Weaknesses of the entire spear line from Spear to Halb. I feel they are often not talked about. too much is assumed
W
My problem is I can't raid while doing economy stuff as well.
practice using hot keys, thats mostly the key to switch back and forward.
MORE
What happened hits castle forgets to make more vils
Saracen game plan should be to buy at least 1000 food before making any farms, whether your are a noob or Hera.
Sounds easy, but it's not lack of effort keeping be around 700
Mamalucs god
You need 1000 food to up to imp...
This thumbnail is crazy 11
Why do lower ranks forget getting upgrades? Bloodline here for example.
I get the feeling he wasn’t sure which upgrades were applying to mameluke. Probably quite an easy one to overlook if you’re not very familiar with the civ!
In that case i started playing that civ and did not know at this point or just forgot it.
I love saracens so I love seeing mamelukes. if sp4tz sees this comment what's even more exciting about saracens is the market buy a tc and then buy another one always pays for itself.
message for Hera too. I love the praise for the positives is perfect motivation as well
They're so versatile. Im not the guy, but I appreciate that TC tip!

I am only like 850 and I never come across opponents like this.
my most swetty games so far were at 800-950, at around 1000 you get new players, because the start at 1000.
a wooden car LOL
1400-1500 is a must to lure deer tbh or u are so far behind
Sword-micro him

Wameluk
Sadly, not for me. I'm 1037 ELO 😏
i m playing in this elo, and i never play against this type of noob :( ( for me not for u hera)
You should cast really low ELO games. It would be entertaining and funny.
I disagree with the blacksmith. At lower elos your micro is not good, so armor for scouts or fletching for archers is needed. At least for me (1000elo) the feudal rushes are much more effective this way. But as always great video, love your content bro. Especially the 1vsMany series is my favorite ✌️
He could only afford fletching because he idled his tc though. Fletching is good, but doing it in that order put him down 2 vils. He had to micro the archer fight and delayed putting putting down farms later to get 2 vill kills, but if he got farms first he would have had that advantage 3 minutes earlier for free.
Nope, he just forgott to make vills before he built the blacksmith. He had enough food at all times.
Also i am not saying make the blacksmith instantly, but early. Means before attacking. Pros attack w/o armor/fletching, because they have the micro.
Average MBL army 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
average MBL army 😂 ( context an army is garbage if it has everything.)
how is this 900 elo? i play 900 elo and get shat on. These guys are noobs
After a decade spent trying to break 1000 elo I can say that I’m finally done. AOE2 is a cancer. So many hundreds of hours gone for nothing. I’m done. I hope this game dies out. Anyone still playing this should ask yourself: Is it even fun anymore?
😂yes it is… trying to break 1100 and having fun
if you know what you are doing wrong, you can easily improve and i broke 1000 Elo after 50 Matches.
Maybe instead of bashing your head against a wall you try to understand what you are doing wrong by watching your recs, you dont even need good apm to get to 1300.
w mamelukes
Can I throw my 10 placement matches? Like delete all my units immediately?
the best way to do it is to delete everything and have the last vill die to a boar (of course, only do this on your first 10 games) then just play at your own pace, no stress
