Excellent tips but I do everything you tell us here. Still not running below 42m on the 10K though. Track/race choice is important but weather conditions too. High humidity and high temperature can ruin a race. I ran my fastest 10K under cloudy conditions with light rain to cool me actively. (My backgroud, 4 years running, 55 years old now, monthly mileage 200k+)
@HansMonasso you’ll get there. I’m 53 and I’ve just cracked 40mins for the 10k. I had to work on speed to get my 5k time well below 20mins. This made 3:58 splits feel achievable. Don’t let your age be a barrier. It’s really just about tolerating the suffering and us old guys know how to do that.
