Running while breathing in gas fumes all the time (especially when it's hot) sucks so much, I hate it. Congrats on completing your workout considering that and how little sleep you got! Motivating stuff
That's a really good indicator that you are leaning into pr shape if you are able to do 15 min 5k pace off of little rest and your 5k pr is just under 15!
Love this! The simplicity of a session that can be easily adapted to suit your goal race distance is great! I’ve just spotted this session into my repertoire with an Autumn HM and Spring ‘24 marathon in mind. Thanks 🙏
Great video Ben! Simple and clear. Running on low sleep honestly can be so rewarding when you push through mentally. Would you do this session every week?
Great video Ben, solid workout 💪🏼 Sorry if this is already in another video but it would be cool to see your warm up drills before you do a workout, I always struggle to think of what to do 😅
The best part about 1K repeats is how versatile they are. I’m a week out from an 8k race, and my splits from last week’s 1K workout were super encouraging. Today… less so😅 but I’m quite pleased and interested to see how things get on next week!
Thanks for this workout Ben! I'm definitely going to incorporate this into my marathon training. I'm getting so much slower as I get older. If this doesn't help me get faster at least it may help me finish strong! Love you channel! You inspire me always!
I just did this session a few days ago but with 400m jog recovery in about 2:30min. The 1k where at 3:30 so what do you think i could run over 10k. My pb is 38:38 and i ran it in April. I should mention that the session on the road was pretty hard for me and i had to walk the first 100m of about 2 or 3 recoverys.
Like adam said more rest and then work to reduce rest time. Which is a long progress. To answer your question Shorter distance and higher then pace more rest. At race try to reduce recovery as much as possible. (What i have done years ago was 6* 750 4min rest and work it done to 3*1500 3 min rest during my first 10k Training) higher distance more slower pace or active recovery.
Hey, Why do you go so far off the total distance for reps in hm and marathon? I was looking at a half 1k reps and was expecting 14 or 15? Also how do you find the Oakley sunglasses, trying to find a nicer pair for running and they're one of the options?
What does determine your goal pace for these intervals Do u use level of perceived exertion as a marker .. meaning that u goal pace isnt gonna be higher than you can sustain
My idea would be 5*600 or 4*800. But you could do 3*1000 as well choose what you like. But stay close to the race distance and do enough of a warm up 2k run + strides at least.
when i ran a 10k my HR was almost maximum through the whole race but in your training your heart rate/effort at that pace is "threshold" is there something i am missing to explain that effort level? Should HR in training be that much lower than in the race?
Ben has a really developed aerobic base so he won’t see as much cardiac drift (HR going up) in a session. That’s why his HR range was in “threshold” but that doesn’t mean 3:00/km is his threshold He’s able to recover enough during the rest, typically in a race you will get within max HR for the last 3-4km
Useless workout 8x 1k… rather do 12x1000 at Threshold tempo or do as many as possible at Vo2max pace but not that “target” pace. There is no stimulus to run at “target pace” there is Threshold and Vo2max and you either train those 2 qualities or you waste your time.
Learning to get a feeling for race pace certainly isn't a waste of time in my experience. The workouts you recommend are also valid but without any training at race pace I find it very easy to over do it when it comes to the opening few km as your not used to it if that makes sense. I prefer a combination of a 10k pace specific workout, a v02 max session per week alongside a steady long run.
of course it's a good workout. if u did v02 max workouts of 8k in volume you would blow up and get injured. This is probably his lt2 pace anyway moreorless
Tinman says that training at 8k to 10k race pace (critical velocity) is highly beneficial as it stimulates your type-II muscle fibers. So no, it’s not a waste of time at all. Far from it

First! On your comment 😂
What are the key non-running things you do to support youe running? S&C, mobility or like that.
This kind of stuff is exactly what I want to see, to be honest. Love seeing you disect your workouts.
Hi @BenIsRunning, why don't you use your old training program with 3 * 15min or 5 * 10min? Currently you run very short period 8 * 1km + 1.5 recovery
Danyub cracked me up. Nice comic timing on the edit 👌
hitting your paces after only 4.5 hours of sleep is impressive
Not only that but he did all the reps.
Great video, Ben. Budapest must be one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, really enjoyable to run in, in my experience.
Totally agree, if it wasnt so hot when i visited. Margaret island is a runners dream.
Nice even pacing for running to feel! Love the look of those shoes. Also need to check out some Soar kit. Get that 30:30!
I’m here for the people who get it done before the school run/work 🫡 🤟😂 solid work mate getting that done on such little sleep! Great job 🎉

I'm training for a 10k currently my time is 56:30 trying to have a PB of 50 mins definitely will be adding 8x1km into my training.
Absolutely loving your videos. So inspirational. Keep it up.

Sorry if this is already in another video but it would be cool to see your warm up drills before you do a workout, I always struggle to think of what to do 😅
Great video Ben. But please tell me you had heard of the Danube river before you ran along side it 🤔
Looking sharp 🚀 great workout 👍 looking forward to do it 💪🏻

‘Work’ in inverted commas there 😂 well done, living the dream 👍
Kofuzi had you on his channel he was filming you at budapest man get a colab going with him it will be top notch , class vid again mate
Loving Danube pronunciation 😂👏. Great session though and video as always 👍
Thank you Ben! 🏃♂🏃♂
Welcome :)
Great vlog Ben! 👌
Great job!
Is standing during your recovery not bad for form though ? We were always told to at least walk during recovery
Have you ever thought about getting a lactate monitor? Would help you to see exactly what your body is doing
Well done Ben 👍
I am always overthinking my breathing during intervals. Would love for you to talk about your technique on race day.
Thanks for this workout Ben! I'm definitely going to incorporate this into my marathon training. I'm getting so much slower as I get older. If this doesn't help me get faster at least it may help me finish strong! Love you channel! You inspire me always!

Hey, quick question. Would you change how much rest you get if you were going for a different distance goal?
Start off 2/3 minutes then reduce each week until 1 minute then up pace and you’ll be flying
Like adam said more rest and then work to reduce rest time.
Which is a long progress.
To answer your question
Shorter distance and higher then pace more rest. At race try to reduce recovery as much as possible.

Love you videos Ben! What shoes are you wearing?
Amazing video Ben❤
Thank you!
Quick question. How do you stay hydrated in this heat? Are you using a flask or something?
Consider this "training block" in the Budapest heat as a poor's man altitude training camp ;)
Great work! It was hot over there. How many miles do you put in a month-year?
Hey,

Weird mold on the walls at 8:13? What is that?
Great video and will be giving this workout a go next week 💪
Ps. Please sort out your flappy Coros strap! 😂🙈
What does determine your goal pace for these intervals
Do u use level of perceived exertion as a marker .. meaning that u goal pace isnt gonna be higher than you can sustain
👟🔥 Let's go!
hey mate! why dont you attach the camera to a hat? it will be less tiring on your arms and help see the pace clearer.
you got this 30:30!
I saw you in Budapest because i live here, but I was too scared to ask for a picture :/
How do you define you LT, by hard breathing or you have done a HR test?
Hi Ben...waiting for coros pace 3 review 😅
How many reps would you recommend for a 3k or 3200? I'm assuming those would also be at my 3k or 3200 pace?
My idea would be 5*600 or 4*800. But you could do 3*1000 as well choose what you like. But stay close to the race distance and do enough of a warm up 2k run + strides at least.

Maybe you have your HR zones miscalculated. Surely no one can run a 10k in max HR. 10k racing usually falls in the threshold zone.
Ben has a really developed aerobic base so he won’t see as much cardiac drift (HR going up) in a session. That’s why his HR range was in “threshold” but that doesn’t mean 3:00/km is his threshold

The river what!? Lol
😂
How you rate the Metaspeed sky + vs the vaporfly 2?
hi ben . 8x 1k . what pace did you do ?
Ben are you going to be at the maldon park run this Saturday
Quite possibly yes, am there most weekends :)
I think I would have taken the bridge over to the island in the middle of the river.
Hey Ben, what's the stability like in the metaspeed sky?
I find them less stable than the vaporfly.
The metaspeedsky plus are a bit more stable than the original, but not as springy.
How can your coros heart rate monitor work accurate? It is also just an optical scan(ner), isn't it!?
It’s placement on the bicep makes it far easier to lock onto a decent pulse reading. Just as accurate as a chest based monitor in my testing
Hi Ben, do you care about your running stats, ie. stride length, ground contact time, vertical ratio?
In short no. It’s not something I’ve focused on :)
Bro you’ll run faster then 30:30
I hope so too but 30:30 is fast as hell.
❤❤❤❤❤🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️❤❤❤❤❤
3:03 too fast
So im guessing those metasky Asics are fast 🤔 lol
"soar running".....€200 for a split short.....🤣🤣

No run is useless.
This is such a stupid comment 😂 You’re saying he should only run at race pace during a race and not practice at it. Numpty
Tinman says that training at 8k to 10k race pace (critical velocity) is highly beneficial as it stimulates your type-II muscle fibers. So no, it’s not a waste of time at all. Far from it
Any recommendations for a long run shoe for a marathon block?❤
Who doesn't know the river Danube? ....Peanut!! 🤣🤣🤣🦾🏃❤
What an idiot
Coros. Please send Ben a strap loop for his watch. 😊
It broke recently and am waiting until i get the upgraded pace 3 :)
@@BenIsRunning watched a few reviews on it yesterday. Interested to see what you think of it.
9:31 I thought the same xd
Meanwhile try using elastic hair band (or how it is called in English idk), does the job hah
