- After Pokemon Colosseum, there would be a follow up to the highest selling RPG on the Nintendo GameCube of course, as we got Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness. This new Pokemon game would improve on so many aspects from the last game, making this duology of Pokemon RPGs on the Nintendo GameCube legendary both in the era they came out and even when going back to play them today. Personally I liked the original Colosseum more but that comes more from my love for the Wes' design and the nature of him not necessarily being a good guy. Not to mention the fact it was the first time a pokemon game felt challenging when I first played it as a kid
Pokemon XD was my first Pokemon game I ever played so I am biased, but its why eevee is my favorite Pokemon
I wish the modern Pokémon games had the battle animations these had.
Revolution was so close to being a third Stadium and did pretty well with model animations.
Same. I hated the dead stare animations in X and Y. There was just no emotion.
I loved both of these games and I’m still sad we don’t have a 3rd to make it a trilogy. I always thought when Pokémon Go brought in shadow Pokémon it was the beginning of them teasing a sequel.
Sadly it was so heavy of a retcon that these games are never getting remastered 😢
Pokemon go and the similar marketing strategies that Nintendo uses is the reason there are no good Pokemon games anymore
Loved colosseum and XD and they are still one of the best Pokémon games I’ve ever played (and I played them all). The limited number of Pokémon and every battle being a double battle made it more strategic. Also the whole concept of shadow Pokémon was just great. It’s so sad that mobile gacha games have shadow Pokémon while they probably won’t appear ever again in a console game. Masuda once revealed in an interview that there won’t be another colosseum game. Just sad but consistent with being far from what fans want.
PBR is the closest we'll ever get, because Genius Sonority will in all likelihood never develop a game like this again. I only wish they were the ones behind Sinnoh remakes, and NOT ILCA.

Both Colosseum and Gale of darkness are underrated by most of the community, unless you grew up in the 90s or early 2000s and experienced these games first-hand.
They were different, some people of the community didn't like that they were spin offs. But I LOVED these games!! Seeing your mons on the big screen (at the time) and having double battles really did kick start the competitive in my household as well amongst my friendship group. No longer was it just powering through with OP mons, that strategy and planning was key.
Different story, different ideas, it was a great break from the gym grind at the time, way before Alola. I still own both original hard copies for my GameCube and do drag them out of the closet every now and then, they're a blast!! Id you haven't experienced them, I highly recommend it!

I remember playing Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness at my friend's house. Because this game was tricky at certain points, she'd act as living strategy guide while I played. I also remember never being able to beat the final boss because of him having all Shadow Pokemon.
A lot of times we tried to snag the shadows, especially the birds.
I played this game so much growing up. I know it gets used as a comparison piece with current games a lot nowadays, but honestly I would absolutely love a continuation of this series' story. Even if this one was a good finale, I think it has potential for more.
I love both Colosseum and XD, but XD was a really big deal for my childhood.
I was born and raised in New Orleans, so 2005 was a major year. I first saw the commercials for XD while out of state, with like 20 family members packed into a small house while evacuated for Hurricane Katrina. I was already a big fan of Colosseum, so I was hyped, even more when I saw the release date was the day before my birthday. That excitement got me through a really tough time, and getting the game on my birthday was when things started to finally feel normal again.
Maybe a third game could’ve had Michael and Wes meeting and teaming up.
XD original idea was that Wes was going to be the final boss Michael has to beat because Wes went back to team snagum.
@@ryanlordjanie Glad they didn’t go through with that because that would have completely undone Wes’s character development from Pokémon Colosseum.
@@roberttreacy8271 he doesn’t actually talk at all through out the whole game. His character development is grey at best. They didn’t go through with it cus it was too dark.

XD: Gale of Darkness will always have a special place in my life because I got to attend one of those Pokemon conventions for the first and only time and I bought a copy a few days early before it was released. I also got the Mystic Ticket to go to Navel Rock in my Emerald version to catch Ho-Oh an Lugia. Fun times.
Oh man lucky you! The Mystic ticket event was never even distributed in Europe.. and sadly I also never owned Gamcube and remember drooling for Gamecube+Colosseum bundle pack seen in some storewindows lmao. Funnily enough just happened to buy my first Gamecube just so I could finally try these games out
Seriously Nintendo, re-release these games for an HD Switch update.
Or even make a third game (if not for this game, at least for a third Stadium game).
It’s not up to Nintendo, that’s the Pokémon company’s decision to do that. Whether to have a third game, remake, or a rerelease of the games since it’s a Pokémon spin off game. Yes Nintendo also makes up the Pokémon company as well but they don’t make every single decision that the pokemon company makes whether it be the anime, the pokemon spin off games, the movies, the mainline games as well as remakes, all of the Pokémon web series, the merchandise, the manga, and everything else.

Coming to this post-Indigo Disk, I didnt realize how much I missed these games. The shift in difficulty and strategy that comes with predominantly double-battles is something i wish theyd lean into more heavily for a spin-off.

It's almost ridiculous but I guess it's because they aren't making copies anymore so whatever is out there is all that is and will exist until they inevitably make it available on Switch shop in like...10 years maybe. But when I lost my game, I was searching for copies that reached over $100 at the time (4 years ago), and by some miracle found my copy again after a move.
I just bought a copy today haha been looking forever for a good deal on one and found a great condition copy for $175 no case tho
side note: I love how your videos like this include the commercials and bumpers, very nostalgic little touch
I’m so glad my cousin had his physical copy and I’m also glad I took it when I saw it in the floor and got it cleaned up and it plays perfectly.
Nothing makes me smile more than seeing my Flareon on the big screen in full 3D.

I still play this game today the Orre Colosseum is the hardest challenge in any pokemon game. It’s really fun creating teams to beat the different rounds.
The battle animation are the cherry on top.

I loved this game growing up. I actually had both shadow games, and while I was unable to beat Colosseum, I managed to beat this one, albeit with the help of the guide.

The gauntlet thing with different platforms and also the simulations were lots of fun too.
Colosseum and XD were excellent and helped make me a hardcore Pokemon fan. But speaking of hardcore fans...
There's actually a romhack (technically an ISOhack) of XD Gale called XG: NeXt Gen. It improves EVERYTHING. It adds in so many things from later gens, like moves, items, abilities, the fairy type, the physical/special split, and even some regional variants of Pokemon! There's new trainers, new Pokemon teams, new Poke Spot Pokemon...you can even encounter legendaries! There may even be a patch in the future for scripted events and Mints.
And if you thought XD was hard, XG is an entirely new difficulty altogether. I LOVE it.
This was my first pokemon game ever. I didn't play a Game Freak game until 2014 with Pokémon X. Trying to get through that Orre Colosseum was and still hell. It developed my hatred for Gardevoir. One dumb thing I've done was reset the whole game became Gardevoir used Dream Eater on my pokemon thinking that they weren't strong anymore. But mostly testing out different eevee evolutions. Eventually I'll come back to it

Imagine Game Freak saying they were gonna take the next gen more slower means next year we get announcement of at least a remastered rerelease of Colo and XD? Then later they bring out the third game announcement. Would be best times

i played XD gale of darkness first when my mom and grandma pitched into get me a gamecube and a couple games as a kid then i later got colleseum of a friend i enjoyed both games alot xd for shadow lugia and the story and collesum for the characters i just loved Wes's back story and having Espeon and Umbreon and the journey with me

I'm currently 100% completing Pokémon Colosseum and then once I'm finished I'm going to go straight into XD and I can't wait to give it a shot instead of just going off of what everyone else says especially sense Colosseum is my favorite Pokémon game of all time and people never stop saying how much better this game is.

Been cool if saw Rui perhaps older. As a trainer with a Espeon and Umbreon. After winning she would casually ask about Wes or inquire about him. Passingly mentioning (hope) that she knows he will return to her, one day.
This and colosseum were the only way to get certain legends back In Gen 3.
I think my sister and I played more of this game than Colosseum, and that's saying a lot. Such a great game.

This was a game that I actually pre-ordered, I remember waiting with fervent anticipation to get home from Target and start playing Gale of Darkness. I think I sold the game at some point, but I still have the pre-order GameCube skin/wrap with the Pokémon XD logo and the Shadow Lugia

I really liked Colosseum, but I haven't played XD yet. I do have it though. I just accidentally bought the French version. I couldn't really see the cover on the small picture. It is the PAL version though, so I can still play it in German. I just have a french manual and packaging. Oui, oui Baguette you know. The french title has the word Souffle in it. I think it was Pokemon XD Le Souffle de Tenebrae. No idea what that means, but hey, French. I hope I can play it one day. I have a Wit that can play this game. I jjst need a better controler.

Colosseum is my favourite Pokémon game of all time so far, I never got round to properly playing gale of darkness when it came out as I was too disappointed that we went from a bamf of a character as Wes with his big ol' hover bike to Michael in his itty bitty hover scooter, but having watched lore videos on it the story is really good, I always hope to see some Orre region hints in games which mostly go unanswered but giving us an engine Pokémon that is basically Wes's bike engine makes me wonder, I love the idea of maybe going back to Orre in maybe a Unova game DLC and seeing Orre have wild Pokémon finally with it being terraformed and the Pokémon that would come to the feeding areas are perfect candidates for Orre regional forms imo

You just can’t get enough of Pokémon am I right, Jordan Fringe? It’s definitely my favourite media franchise ever too. As well as Rugrats. Both are all time classics for different reasons I think.
As a kid I was super pumped for Battle Revolution as I thought with my silly child brain that it was the third game in the series. A sequel to XD. So I started playing it and it started with a battle and I figured "Okay it just opens with a battle" and I kept wondering when the game allowed me to roam around but ofcourse that never happened and I will never like Battle Revolution as a result because I'll always feel betrayed

I loved both games though I might like Colosseum a bit more. Wes was definitely a fresh protagonist for the Pokémon series and I enjoyed that game’s story slightly more. With that being said XD was a great continuation and I liked that they made the Shadow Pokemon purification less tedious and added stuff like wild Pokemon.
I love this game, if they ever made a remaster I would buy it immediately

I was spoiled by this game as a kid. I didn't even know colosseum existed until 2017 when I watched ChuggaConroy play it, and subsequently found a used copy at my local game store for about 40 bones.
I like both for different reasons. I like Colosseum for its freshness, and XD for its polish. Where Colosseum took and made you feel awesome as you played it, its story was... meh? The twist ending didn't feel deserved and left me feeling like it was a little rushed. XD fixed this by at least setting up Mr. Verich as Master Greevil after you raid the key lair with Gonzap and Wakin.
XD also is more mechanically fleshed out. Letting you save anywhere is such a relief! But, Colosseum has great character design. Both have amazing dialog, isn't that right matey?
this game will alway have a soft spot for me it was the first console game i ever owned and subsequently the first ever console i played i still remember my grandma buying the special edition nintendo gamecube with gale of darkness ahh it was fun to play it too bad i dont have a gamecube o play it again
I played XD first, and it used to be my favorite Pokemon game for the longest time. Still love the game to pieces and I really wish they'd go back to this formula :(
I love Pokemon Colosseum and XD a lot. They gave the player such an unique experience! I think it's sad, that nowdays the Origin of Shadowpokemon is pretty much forgotten from newer Players thanks to Pokemon Go introducing them. But in PoGo they're made by Team Rocket without to acknowledge Team Cipher in any way. I think that's a huge missed opportunity and it makes me pretty sad

This is my favorite Pokemon game of all time. With the Pokemon Go shadow Pokemon retcon these games are never going to get remakes and probably not even ports. I had the guide book for this one and I loved it so much
this 2000 game has better animation than 2020, i do love XD more due to the fact more pokemon, more stuff to do in game, however, i do enjoy wes story more in Coloseeum better.
For me it's colusseum, it was the reason I become a gamecube from my parents. One of the best pokemon games ever

I don't know why I never asked for Gale of Darkness as a kid. I was in high school, so maybe it was around the time I started to lose interest in Pokemon after finishing Leaf Green (I kinda took a break until Pokemon until after Platinum was released). But I loved Sapphire, Leaf Green, and Colosseum around that time, so I really can't imagine why I never played.
Unfortunately, copies of the game are $160 minimum on eBay now, so I probably won't be buying it, at least not any time soon.

Game freak / Pokemon Company / Nintendo can take all my money if they ever announce a port or rerelease of Colosseum or XD, my two favourite Pokemon games. Generally thought with Shadow Pokemon being in Pokemon Go, that was a hint, but still nothing 🙁
I can't really relate to the fatigue thing as the core games always added new content and mechanics but yeah Colosseum & XD Gale of Darkness are still among my favorite Gamecube games. And that's all i will say as asking me to rank them vs all Pokémon spin off games may result in a ranking that will have people wanna throw eggs and veggies at me. As for pitting them against the core games, i don't as they are spin off titles + they lose against the core games. At least for me. They are great Pokémon spin off games that should be added in the VC catalogue or get a remaster/remake treatment at least.
