Good video! I thought the idea aboutbthe cut scenes was a great point. In the old Final Fantasy games a cut scene was almost like a prize for completing a segment of the game and would leave you stunned. Now it is generally full of boring dialog that is lackluster. I think a huge problem with modern gaming is the rampant spread of DEI companies like Sweet Baby Inc becoming increasingly influential in the space. They will frequently change a game to the point that its so inclusive of marginalized groups that it alienates their main audience or is just intellectually insulting to their audience (Yaksuke in Assassins Creed for example). I believe another problem is the manager/investor class of these gaming development companies are so concerned woth how much money they can make compared to the cost of making the game that they just pump out more and more of the same stuff with little innovation like we see with the Call of Duty series. A lazy way of saying something is better than before is just updating the graphics rather then actually being creative and coming up with new gameplay mechanics since that actually requires more innate talent and is probably more time consuming and risky for the profit margins. I think in general gaming has become too much of a big business and less a work of passion like we saw with games 35 to 10 years ago.
Guys, there's life beyond triple-A games. Many indie simpler games are providing way more fun than those pasteurized-cash grabbing games released by AAA companies.
Definitely the budget and time constraints but also as someone else put it ''the investors are considered the customers more than the customers''. I also think the fact that the hobby itself being more mainstream + the uprising of weird social justice elements has made things worse. As soon as things go mainstream especially nowadays it goes to shit. Considering all this I think it's better to just disconnect as much as possible and find a new hobby or just keep a harddrive of the old titles.
You nailed it, in the past, video games aimed to provide us with moments of joy and an escape from reality, whereas today, they tend to subtly impose a way of thinking rooted in reality, which is then transposed into the gaming world. This i why old games feel so much better.
I enjoy the graphics a lot... it 's another form of art. But not in the cost of an enjoyable gameplay. I couldn 't agree more about the pre-recorded sequences which are actually "cut-scenes" that you only need to push a button when you were told to. Or for those needless walking sequences that you see so much in otherwise great games like Assassin 's Creed, God Of War, or The Last Of Us. "Follow that guy/lady"... my ass. With some useless blah blah and not a single challenge. Without involving any search or puzzle solving or whatever. What's the point in this besides filling more hours? Why do I have to walk from one level to the next or from a mission to another? Just get me there and let me continue playing!

Everything you mentioned just shows that gaming is dying bro. If mods are needed to keep games relevant simply shows that devs don’t care enough to us what we actually want. Edit: This became kinda long. I just wanted to articulate my thoughts on the entire matter and just kept going. I think it's a bit more nuanced than that. What makes the original RE4 an amazing game to this day is how the whole game is laid out. From the immaculate pacing to the increasingly absurd story, to the innovative combat, to the great level design, etc. All of those things still hold up perfectly fine today, with the exception of the graphics and the slow, clunky controls, which is where the remake picks up and improves on. It is the better game no doubt, but it only improves on a few aspects of the original that became outdated in time, and it's only so good because the original was and still is a great game in many ways. Like, i very much enjoyed the new god of war games but especially on a replay you realize how much time is spend with slow walking and automatic climbing and well, if you've already heard all the dialogue you are left with nothing of interest in those scenes. Meanwhile the old gow games were perfectly paced, to the point, pure gameplay first experiences. There is not an ounce of fat on those games. And i prefer that.
