Good video! I thought the idea aboutbthe cut scenes was a great point. In the old Final Fantasy games a cut scene was almost like a prize for completing a segment of the game and would leave you stunned. Now it is generally full of boring dialog that is lackluster. I think a huge problem with modern gaming is the rampant spread of DEI companies like Sweet Baby Inc becoming increasingly influential in the space. They will frequently change a game to the point that its so inclusive of marginalized groups that it alienates their main audience or is just intellectually insulting to their audience (Yaksuke in Assassins Creed for example).
I believe another problem is the manager/investor class of these gaming development companies are so concerned woth how much money they can make compared to the cost of making the game that they just pump out more and more of the same stuff with little innovation like we see with the Call of Duty series. A lazy way of saying something is better than before is just updating the graphics rather then actually being creative and coming up with new gameplay mechanics since that actually requires more innate talent and is probably more time consuming and risky for the profit margins. I think in general gaming has become too much of a big business and less a work of passion like we saw with games 35 to 10 years ago.

Definitely the budget and time constraints but also as someone else put it ''the investors are considered the customers more than the customers''. I also think the fact that the hobby itself being more mainstream + the uprising of weird social justice elements has made things worse. As soon as things go mainstream especially nowadays it goes to shit.
Considering all this I think it's better to just disconnect as much as possible and find a new hobby or just keep a harddrive of the old titles.

You nailed it, in the past, video games aimed to provide us with moments of joy and an escape from reality, whereas today, they tend to subtly impose a way of thinking rooted in reality, which is then transposed into the gaming world. This i why old games feel so much better.

I enjoy the graphics a lot... it 's another form of art. But not in the cost of an enjoyable gameplay. I couldn 't agree more about the pre-recorded sequences which are actually "cut-scenes" that you only need to push a button when you were told to.
Or for those needless walking sequences that you see so much in otherwise great games like Assassin 's Creed, God Of War, or The Last Of Us. "Follow that guy/lady"... my ass. With some useless blah blah and not a single challenge. Without involving any search or puzzle solving or whatever. What's the point in this besides filling more hours? Why do I have to walk from one level to the next or from a mission to another? Just get me there and let me continue playing!

My backlog is so big that even if I won the lotto and had all the free time to play and enjoy those games at my own pace, I still wouldn't even beat all of them. Everything you mentioned just shows that gaming is dying bro. If mods are needed to keep games relevant simply shows that devs don’t care enough to us what we actually want. Gaming has died and revived and is now dying again because no one is being innovative or pushing features to the next level or doing anything interesting. The market is being over saturated with copy and paste of trends. The indie games are all over libraries and triple A games are drowning in them. So many triple A games are coming out and are huge let downs 😂gaming isn’t dying but good gaming is dying.

AAA games are not getting worse, we had a great year for AAA just last year (Baldur's Gate 3, Alan Wake 2, Spider-Man 2, Resident Evil 4 and Dead Space remakes, Cyberpunk expansion). But certain big companies like Ubisoft, EA and Activision/Blizzard did become much worse, but it didn't happen recently, all 3 died quality/reputation-wise a decade ago.

The new god of war is far superior to the old series in every single way. You
Talk about gameplay mechanics. There's only so many gameplay mechanics that there are and we've seen most of them. There's just not room to continue on that trajectory. As you become older, you get more jaded.Because you've played more games and you've seen everything. If you would have been a kid growing up with these new titles. You would think that this is the greatest thing ever. And maybe you should do some research when it comes to pricing. How much nintendo games in supernintendo games war. They would get up to sixty to seventy dollars back then. That's far more expensive than they are today with inflation. And you keep going back to this Is CHI theory. The reason CGI were so cool is the graphics were so much better during these scenes. Nowadays the graphics are so good. They don't need them. And the walking scenes is a way for them to tell a story. So it sounds like you really?Just have problems with story games... Sounds like you are from the ADHD generation that has the constantly be doing something. I do agree with you on the quantity over quality. That's grand theft auto fault right there. Every game had to be open world after that. Open world games are the downfall. Trying.

Old god of war games 1-3 are the best. They are more violent have more gore better executions, more enemy variety and better story. The excitement of CG cutscenes back then wasn't just about higher resolution. They were short and impactful, leaving you wanting more. I don't have a problem with story-driven games; in fact, my top 10 list is full of them. But let's be real, a good story is just the cherry on top of great gameplay. You can have a fantastic game with a mediocre story.
I'm not a huge fan of open-world games, but I do give Rockstar credit for doing them well. Unfortunately, many other developers have tried to copy their formula without the same level of success. The huge budgets required for these games often come at the expense of quality.

    • @axel9473
      @axel9473 2 месяца назад +1

Edit: This became kinda long. I just wanted to articulate my thoughts on the entire matter and just kept going.
I think it's a bit more nuanced than that. What makes the original RE4 an amazing game to this day is how the whole game is laid out. From the immaculate pacing to the increasingly absurd story, to the innovative combat, to the great level design, etc.
All of those things still hold up perfectly fine today, with the exception of the graphics and the slow, clunky controls, which is where the remake picks up and improves on.
It is the better game no doubt, but it only improves on a few aspects of the original that became outdated in time, and it's only so good because the original was and still is a great game in many ways.
So if anything, i would say that this is an example of why old game design is often better, not the other way around. The remake was one of the most celebrated games of its year, but it's literally just RE4 with a few minor, but effective changes and a graphical overhaul.
Otherwise i agree to some extent. There are fantastic AAA games coming out every year. I'm not sure if i would say they are better than the classics, but that's a very subjective matter anyway and a lot of these games are simply too different to to the old ones to draw direct comparisons anyway.
I think a lot of the complains nowadays are also of a subjective matter. Many people don't seem to like how so many games have become extremely story focused, while the gameplay takes too much of a backseat. I somewhat agree with that myself. Like, i very much enjoyed the new god of war games but especially on a replay you realize how much time is spend with slow walking and automatic climbing and well, if you've already heard all the dialogue you are left with nothing of interest in those scenes.
Meanwhile the old gow games were perfectly paced, to the point, pure gameplay first experiences. There is not an ounce of fat on those games. And i prefer that. But that is a subjective opinion and many like the new games more, which is just as valid.
What is not subjective is the increasing amount of predatory and anti-consumer business tactics. Rampant amounts of microtransactions, legal gambling in the form of lootboxes in games targeted at minors, unfinished games at release, intentional misleading of the customers before release and much more.

This whole video is nostalgia bias. Old resident evils weren't good. Old God of wars were a product of their time. They were mashy and the combat was simple. You just didn't have anything better to play.
You dont really play old games, you just have nostalgia bias for some specific games. Go on and play random PS2 games that you dont have nostalgia for and tell me how "better" they are.

The old gow games had more complex gameplay than the new ones. Whether you like one more than the other is a different, very subjective question, as they are very different games but to say that the old games are objectively worse is simply not true. They also weren't unpolished in any way.

      Thanks for sharing your thought.
A lot of what you're saying is definitely influenced by the era. But the fundamentals of game design haven't changed that much over time. The old God of War games weren't just simple; they were complex. We could debate that for hours, so check out my video comparing Ascension to 2018. I'll talk more about it later.
God Of War Comparison | Mastering The Chains Vs Mastering Atreus:
      ruclips.net/video/2FXfZXnkhzo/видео.htmlsi=iJVreSE3EEFQgK4t
Maybe a lot of old games were unpolished, but at least they were games. They understood the core of what makes a game fun. The original God of War and Resident Evil games are perfect examples of this. The story and gameplay blended together seamlessly, creating lasting experiences. In those games, there was no pointless wandering.
Not all modern games are bad. Resident Evil 4 Remake is a great example. It has great, updated gameplay with more mechanics, stunning graphics, and a fantastic story. And no pointless walking.
So, while nostalgia plays a role, it's not the whole story. Some old games were truly great, and not all new games are an improvement.
