Not sure why i didnt learn this in school. i guess it helps the economy if we are are all dumb about finance. thankyou for the easy to follow breakdown and of course school of youtube
I’ve just started as a delivery driver, working for a sub contractor who does sub contracts for a delivery company. I get paid by the hour how do I show that on my invoice since it’s not a product I’m selling just my services, please help me.
Can you do a quote sheet? I have a problem where I do long quotes and I need to insert images of the equipment the customer is been quoted for. Also the quote goes on to about 4 pages. It's very difficult to set a page like that.
Great Video Andy. Good advice about quoting a PO number if the customer has provided one. I agree with the advantages of your Invoice Numbering system.
Thanks for the informative video mate, if I want to work as self employed (as a massage therapist) do I need an invoice for tax purposes? Or print them a receipt? What's the best way and the quickest, I know people nowadays don't want to waste time with these types of things.
Very handy, thanks! I'll be becoming vat registered in time, but I wont be issuing very many invoices (at first) as the majority of our sales are to the public who are happy with just a till receipt. But looking to expand the business to business side of the er, business, so this is info I needed to brush up on.
Hey there Andy, starting out here. I’m just wondering, isn’t there risk in including your account number? I’ve previously worked at a bank for years and have been telling Customers to never put this info out there. Am I misunderstanding or missing anything? Great video, thanks for the huge amount of help within minutes!
For B-C it's not a formal requirement as such but good practice in case legal action is required down the line. Same format - just make it clear that it's a deposit and perhaps detail what the final payment arrangements are. This invoice would form the basis of your terms of trade. It really depends on risk levels for the work. Normally for £2-3k jobs I'd just send them an e-mail (no invoice) asking for a deposit but for bigger jobs the formal route may give you more protection. 👍
Hi Andy, would you or will you be able to give me advice on "markup on materials or consumables" is this a common thing and how does it relate to the invoice you put out and impact on taxes?
Whhat do you do if you don't have a business address or a PO box? Do you use your home address on the invoice? And if your client doesn't have a business address, would you invoice them to their home address?
Hi. you answered a question of mine few weeks ago about proforma invoices and it helped me a lot. I had a couple related questions. I delivered the proforma and got the 50% advance I requested, now I'm making the final invoice and was planning on using the same pro forma invoice, but chganging the name to just "invoice" and specifying the date in which the advance was payed and that the rest of the amount was still due on delivery. Is that the correct way to do so? If so I imagine the grand total at the end of the document would not change, is that right? also in the case of numbering, is the number of the ffinal invoice meant to be the same as the proforma or is that unimportant?
Matching invoice numbers between the proforma and the actual invoice doesn't really matter - once you've been paid the pro-forma has done its job and you can really ignore it from there. Make sure your final invoice shows the TOTAL amount (pre-payment and final payment) making it clear a) when the pre-payment was paid and b) what balance remains to be paid. That should suffice. 👍
@@SmallBusinessToolbox hello mate. I'm interested in that aswell. I have a customer who refuses to pay the full amount of the invoice , they invented a "debit note" with a lower price and they paid that. Is that legal???
@oc ol - lol, no I very much doubt that's legal. It's quite a complex area as it depends why they're not paying. Depends what was originally agreed, was there are written contract of sale, are they saying something wasn't done properly etc etc.
I've no doubt this advice is useful to most people but I am too thick and lazy to absorb and retain it, my brain switches off and I end up thinking about what's in my fridge. I do want to start my own business but have no ideas what to do, are there any cartoony type videos that would better suit me. Thanks.
Hi Andy! what a USEFUL video, thank you so so much. This might sound stupid, but I'm a bit lost here. If I'm not VAT registered, and won't register as I earn less than requested, do I still have to pay taxes at the end of the financial year? Would that be the 20% (or what accurate to my income) from all of the earnings of these invoices I sent?
Hi , i've been working as a self employed for over 2 years now , but i have a problem my company doesn't pay us anymore (4 months to gain for my work) any advice what should i do to get my money back? Thank you!

This was soooooo helpful for me as a new business owner. Thank you for clarifying what an invoice is and how to use it properly.
The date invoice numbering system is genius. Thank you for sharing.
No worries! Sadly might not be able to use that method for VAT invoices, but should be fine if you're not VAT registered. 👍
Thank you for great infornation as I prepare my first English invoice.
Love it, Especially the invoicing Number method.

Can you do a quote sheet? I have a problem where I do long quotes and I need to insert images of the equipment the customer is been quoted for. Also the quote goes on to about 4 pages. It's very difficult to set a page like that.
I can develop an interactive pdf for you to upload images and much more.

Do you need to include your UTR number?
I deal with B-C is an invoice required when asking for a deposit, if so is it set out any differently

Don’t all business in the UK or Europe have to be VAT registered?
Nope!
Only if u make over 85k
Hi Andy, would you or will you be able to give me advice on "markup on materials or consumables" is this a common thing and how does it relate to the invoice you put out and impact on taxes?
Hi - markup on materials is just your profit. You can mark stuff up any way you like. Absolutely a common thing - can you give an example?
Could you do the invoice number as the actual date? As in 06011997A?
Yes (although not for VAT apparently!) but if you sort them alphabetically they'll be in a very strange order. 👍
Whhat do you do if you don't have a business address or a PO box? Do you use your home address on the invoice? And if your client doesn't have a business address, would you invoice them to their home address?
Yeah - home address is generally fine if you're a sole trader. 👍
@@SmallBusinessToolbox Awesome, thanks for that!

Thank you great video! What do you think the best option is to secure my money if customer won't pay?
How to get a customer to pay who refuses to pay? That's a big topic! Depends why they're not paying. Might do a vid on that. 👍

Hi, can a non-UK-resident be a sole trader?
This is quite a complex area - speak to an accountant. 👍👊
