So the name Ai, translates to Love, so her name has a double meaning as well. The mangaka, really thought this whole story through, not to mention Yoasobi's lyrical genius. It's insane.
Have been following him (Aka Akasaka) since halfway through Kaguya. Sometimes very conflicted about him. Oshu no ko has been sliding for a while now, Kaguya also deteriorated over time (final chapter was good at least). But the thing is, those earlier parts fucking slap (although for OnK, you have to get past the premise).
So it's not that he's not constantly putting out bangers, but when he's actually cooking we're eating good tonight.
A friend told me that her entire name is "Hoshino Ai", basically "hoshi" has as one of it's meanings the verb "want", what translates the name to somethig like "the one who wants love".
iirc her name is actually written with katakana and would more mean "Eye". I figure given her themes both meanings are meant to be taken away from it tho.
Also translates to indigo(or dark blue)
This guy is too good. He guessed the whole anime just by hearing the opening in both Sub and Dub. That's how you can see real talent.

It's actually "eye" Not "love". Ai's name is written in katakana If it were written in hiragana you would be correct."あい" this is Ai in hiragana it means love, this is Ai in katakana "アイ" .also fun fact Hoshino(Ai's last name)

@@lance4196you're actually kinda wrong! every Japanese names has their last name first and first name last (last = first, first = last). the 'first' names are also always in katakana, their 'last' names in kanji. each name has a meaning, and not all katakana (names, which is all I know for now probably.) are words from foreign languages. therefore, 'アイ' still and will always mean 'love', just like '愛' in kanji, which means the same thing. 'Hoshino' or '星野' *does* mean star, which also resembles her pupils. ("wild star eyes" is what I found when I searched up the meaning since I'm not that kinda of Japanese expert, even though I don't clarify myself as one.)

Also a kanji can be read separately it's already a word for example "星野" has two kanji 星 means star while 野 is field or wild.

You really nailed the second chorus with "That's all the haters". To give context, she is in an idol GROUP, but she is the main star while the other are just her background actors.

if nothing else, at least try watching the first episode. its near movie-length and a genuine MASTERPIECE, so much so that almost immediately after the episode came out the anime shot to the number one position on the anime list community rankings, lol. plus, if you come back and rewatch the op after episode one, things suddenly hit a LOT harder.

Oshi no Ko really plays on the idea that the eyes are the window to the soul, to the point where you can tell which characters are genuine and which are lying/hiding something just by looking at their eyes, which is probably why the MV focuses on the eyes so much
Since you understand the idol industry I think you would really enjoy the anime. It dives into dark sides of the idol industry and entertainment industry in general.
First episode was intense
this song can be separated into three parts. The first part is Aqua and Ruby’s (Ai’s children) perception of her. The second part, the rap part in the middle, is from the perspective of her fellow group members. They’re jealous of her because they’re aware that Ai is the main attraction and they’re essentially forgotten. The last part is Ai’s own point of view. Hope this makes sense :D
I think you would absolutely LOVE and appreciate this show with how they depict and critique the idol industry and the entertainment industry in general. This show is a rollercoaster of emotions....especially episode 1. Theres a reason why they made episode 1 being 90 minutes long. Also "Ai" is the idol's name. Her name "Ai" is the Japanese word for "love"
Also the Ending song "Mephisto" is an absolutely banger. But I recommend you check it out AFTER watching episode 1 (if you decide to watch the anime) so that you go into the show as blind as possible
Fun fact, this song Yoasobi - Idol hit number 1 on the Global Billboard charts. This show is literally advertised everywhere in Japan, you literally cant avoid this song that's playing in all the stores, on billboards in the cities etc

@@TooPiece I can say with confidence that this is the best show in its genre in recent years. I rarely watch dramas but Oshi no ko was amazing. Its kinda dark and very interesting perspective on the behind the scenes of idol/entertainment industry. I also heard that it draws inspiration from the true story of a child actor

You should check the anime too. 'Idol' will hit very different after you watch especially episode 1. It can be said that the song is the embodiment of Ai's story according to that eps which is more than 1 hour. The last verse of the song still haunts me to this day. 😔
Yes, this anime is the best of this spring season and easily made its way into my top 5 anime really quickly because of its amazing and intriguing story, amazing characters, god tier opening, and it always made me come back for the next episode eager for what to happen next, so I heavily recommend you watch it
I actually love how "Your perfect Ai" can translate to Ai, Ai's name or Love. Its both her perfect love and the perfect Ai
Oshi no Ko is very much revealing the darkness of the entertainment industry. Ai Hoshino, the "main character" is the best idol in Japan and then her children, the blondes in the Opening are enveloped in that life from birth as the secret kids of an idol.
Her name is Ai Hoshino and she is really loved and popular, yes the song in english says so. Yoasobi is a great japanese singer. Im also japanese and half of jamaican but i recommend you watch her other music videos❤
I would love to have reactions to oshi no ko!!! This song definitely becomes more meaningful after watching the 1st ep so maybe re-listen with lyrics after starting the show. This show is so special, especially as someone who has followed idols in any capacity (kpop for example). Definitely well worth the watch!

Basically the way that they always showing her eyes is behind a reason well in the anime oshi no ko star pupil is represented as lie the more you lie the more it glows in the anime her eyes glows more and more so that means every single word she talks with is a lie her smile her dancing and singing is when her eyes glow more . Thats why the eyes the more importantly shown in the anime.

The rap part that you thought were the haters were actually the other members of the group being jealous knowing that she will always be the best member while they’re the step stools for that.
the eyes she has is supposed to be a mark that siginifies ''perfect liar'' and the song explains how she has to lie about her happiness for her fans to love her. It makes her an even better liar when people think she is a bad liar by for an exemple she has to lie about what she has eaten today: ''what have you eaten today?'' ''ham- oh- u..uh fried eggs''

Hits hard as a parent. I work a dangerous job helping others. I've been shot, I've been stabbed, I was resuscitated by my own mates once before and given a second life. Now with a son sometimes I linger on the idea of what if one day I don't come home. But just gotta bury it because folks need help and my son's future doesnt just depend on his family life, but the community and nation he'll live in. I love that you were able to interpret the vibe on first try and point out some themes.. Makes it satisfying to reveal the English version... YOASOBI also sings the theme song for "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury." If you watch the music video after watching the anime from the prologue to episode 24, you will be moved to realize that the meaning of the video is completely different from what you had imagined. The last line of the Japanese lyrics has an important meaning in the conclusion of the story. You will understand and be moved by the meaning of the images just as you were when you watched the MV for "IDOL" after watching the first episode of "Oshi no ko".

Trust that I will be there when you drop that reaction to ONK. I just watched the season finale, and I can't wait for season 2! The spring 2023 anime season was STACKED. I have not had this much anime to keep up with during one season ever. Loving Yamada-kun at Lvl 999, Skip & Loafer, Demon Slayer, Dr. Stone, Vinland Saga, Hell's Paradise, Mashle, Sacrificial Princess & the King of Beasts, and Insomniacs After School has kept me fed. I also have to binge watch the new season of Tokyo Mew Mew New. I even rewatched Yuri On Ice because I wanted to feel nostalgic and also torture myself (I need Ice Adolescence 😭!)

Ai=Love in Japanese and Ai is also a name pronounced I. So her name being Ai is sorta foreshadowing which is why "Idol" was saved until the ending of the first episode then became the Opening. This song is perfect for Ai and "Mephisto" is perfect for Aqua.

At a glance it's very easy to feel the bunny suit is a metaphor for presenting yourself in public/on stage. I watched the live performance of YOASOBI who really managed to sing it live also. So talented. Also the composer of BRAVE (Frieren).
Yoasabi made the intro and a movie named Oshi Noko and the movie the main one in the first episode the main character but she died she was a great mom 😢
Hoshino Ai (The Main girl that appeared in the video) name can translate to Hoshino=Star and Ai=Love and it’s about the light side and dark side of being a Idol. Also the videos are talking about how she lies to her fan about saying “I love you” for them to like her. But the two blond characters are her children and she was finally able to say “I love you” at the last part of the video when she hugged them both.

Actually, the way that I got into this anime was this song I will see that the anime shows a lot about this song like you gotta pay attention to like the beginning in that. I will say a lot of the episodes are combined with the song like they’re so hidden through like there’s multiple events that happened to the anime series which are like wait that remind me of the song.

I think the idol anime you were talking about is Back Street Girls, where 3 yakuza men were turned into idols by their idol-crazy boss to pay for their debts. It's really a good laugh whenever I see clips of that. XD
First time watching. Love your vibe and your way of analyzing this especially since you go through it as you said, it gives some truth to the show you know. You should definitely give it a go. Just a disclaimer first ep's a prologue so it's 1 and a half hour long 🥶 but you won't regret it.

If you don’t know ai has starveyes which represents their star talent. When it flames out the star turns black like when a star collapses it’s now a black hole. These are really rare and this song is about being the perfect idol then introducing the aspects of Oshi no Ko

First show you mentioned with the guys turned into idols, its called backstreet girls: gokudolls. Becoming women through cosmetic surgery was their punishment for messing up in the yakuza. Series is like a fever dream
