    Time stamp 1:25.........that big boy has a good 2 feet of his tail missing. Bitten off by another huge gator during a fight over territory. I've been living & fishing in central Florida since 1969, and nearly every wild gator I've seen 12 to 13+ ft long, also had the tip of their tail bitten off. I think it's safe to say that for every huge gator you see, there are many more ya don't, and possibly even bigger. Awesome footage by the way. Thumbs up.

    Excellent video. That big male at about 1:45 was missing the end of his tail. It's always amazing to me how violent alligator fights are and then after losing a leg, portion of their tail, part of their jaw, etc. they seem to recover and go about life as before. I know scientist are trying to discover exactly how they ward off infection but however they do it is impressive. I'm up in Satellite Beach and a place you could get some excellent video of numerous gators is in the St. Johns River along the eastern side of Tosohatchee WMA. In the spring they are lined up on the shoreline like cordwood. You really captured some great footage here. If you google "Alligators on the St. Johns" there's several videos on RUclips of airboats racing by all the alligators and airplanes flying low over "Alligator Beach." It's a remote place with no roads to access it but it has thousands of big alligators. It's funny to read the comments where people say, "No way this is Florida...this is Africa or Australia!" (like American alligators live in Africa & Australia). Great video. Stay safe out there.

      They are cannibalistic, so they do eat smaller, weaker ones. That is one way they get so big. I spent my childhood in the 1980s hunting and fishing in the Everglades and witnessed alligators eating other alligators.

    whats up with all the green stufff

    • @ethaneverglades7512
      @ethaneverglades7512 3 года назад +5

      The green stuff is algae that grow in lake Okeechobee. However, this amount of algae is unnaturally large. the reason it is so much is because of the many farmlands and ranches that use fertilizers that reach lake Okeechobee when rain washes it in. Because of the large number of nutrients in the water, the algae grow far beyond what it is supposed and this is quite deadly for many animals as it makes the air toxic and hard to breathe and can make the lake an inhospitable environment for fish. So to fix this the government decided that they didn't want to deal with the problem so they drain the lake into a river connecting to the Atlantic and the Gulf. This however makes the problem even worse because now it's not only affecting life in the lake but now in the Gulf. When this occurs it is called red tide as it turns the water red. the most devastating red tide happened about 3 years ago and it killed many manatees, fish, dolphins, and even a whale shark.

    • @dimensions20
      @dimensions20 3 года назад +1

      @@ethaneverglades7512 Interesting. I read up on Red Tide last year. What I discovered was that the fertilizer was coming down the Mississippi River & off shoots from farming in northern states.
