- In this video, I go over some of the common questions I get asked about my custom digital dash I made for my 300ZX, and show some of how I built it. I may make a follow-up to this video, if there is enough interest!
At the time of publication, I am not offering these for sale.
I am working on determining an outlet in which I may publish some of the information I have, relating to this project. I will update this description once this is available.

Bro, from a fellow z31 owner, I WANT this!! I tried to do something similar with a raspberryPi but as you stated, it was not fluid at all. Ended scraping that idea years ago. If you ever decide to sell, whether it's just hardware, software or as a kit, count me in on a buy in!
What do you mean not fluid? The display or the raspberry software
I will buy it too!!!!
Got an ls swap 3000gt I want to put this in!
@@michaelaguirre18 A 3000GT LS swap sounds crazy, so crazy that I love it
@@kokopellione it's even crazier it's on a tahoe frame using a denali AWD system
@@michaelaguirre18how did you put it on a Tahoe frame 😂😂😂
This is the definition of "Some people do what they can, others what they want" Great job!
Dude, that thing is so clean I can't even begin to express the satisfaction I got from watching it be made. I'm begging you, please make a follow-up of the dash being installed into the car.
This has to be one of the coolest mods I’ve ever seen
watching videos like this make me wish i was smarter. killer job!
literally what i was thinking i was like like man.. i wish i was this smart lol
much of it is reading and trying stuff... or alternatively deep pockets
@@baiomarlaye3165 there's real dash I've been contemplating for ages but you still have to be able to translate the canbus and stuff it's always been a project I've wanted to do but time and electrical brains aren't there lol
@@digital0785 does having an aftermarket ecu help any? Cuz I imagine you still need to know the op codes for the tech
@@baiomarlaye3165 some of them have plugins for realdash
This might be the coolest thing I’ve ever seen done to any car instrument panel.
CANBUS message sifting is one head fk of a job, well done! Instant sub BTW! Some crazy awesome work!!!
Without the car it goes on and the ability to sniff the packets, that really is nightmare fuel
3:40 my man's writing code like a Hollywood hacker. Very cool.
And the project is fantastic, well done (from someone who wants to do this to another car).
Further, the Devkit you built for the Ford dash is really neat!
He was doing it so fast i thought he was doing it as a joke 😂
@@kami_dred7319 95% confident this was intended as a joke, the increasing redbull cans between cuts, the frustration... all cut together like it was it seemed fake but after rewatching im pretty sure it was intended as a joke...
I don't even own a z31. But i watched it all. It's incredible. The perfect tribute to the 80's
I dream of doing a project like this. Modern cluster in an older car is such a cool project. Well done!
I dont own a z31, but I've got a mk3 supra and dude! This is the exact reason i cant just go buy a new dash. Nothing on the market has this level of style or is this seamless. Well done!
I'm blown away u just built a board and can program code. Your skills are amazing. Wish had your ability
This is amazing. I wish i could do this to my 40th anniversary 4runner. It has many 80s easter eggs as a throw back to the 1984 4runner.
I don’t own one of these cars, but I’m a huge sucker for 80’s retro stuff, and I love to tinker. I watched this video all the way through and loved it. Well done man!
You don't know how much I needed to see this! I just recently bought a beater 1985 Toyota MR2 and I would love to add something like this!
This is without a doubt one of the coolest things I have seen You Tube recently and I absolutely love that dash, nice job!
This took four years? That’s incredible dedication
@@carsonsanders2101 in the projects defense I definitely was off and on with it before I got to this point!
The level of work that's gone into this is mind blowing. That can terminal was very slick. Kudos!
This channel really is worthy of its name, "Design Lab". Especially the "Lab" part. Well done and thank you for sharing, you're inspired me to make something similar :)
Even though I prefer the styling of the Z32, I admire your ingenuity and craftsmanship on this project!
I was saving up to swap my dead Z31 cluster, but this is FREAKING AMAZING, I NEED IT
This is one of the best things I've seen on RUclips in a minute, good job, made it look easy lol
Man z31 stuff keeps popping up everywhere, and this is the type of stuff that really makes me miss mine. I had an 84 50th AE with a Kaminari front bumper and the original Spearco intercooler kit. It had less than 50k miles on it when I bought it in 2013.
Dude, this guy is insane with it! This should have more views
I am super interested in all of the research that you put into this. i understand the time that went into doing this. its the coolest thing i have seen on youtube in a long time.
These are the channels I’m into now. It’s different in just the right way not doing the same crap as everyone else.
The intro with the Metal gear sounding music had me nostalgic
Dude, this video production is on point and the outcome of your labor is incredible. Would love more details on the cnc process and what you use for overlays. From the viewpoint of the video is looks nearly flawless! Well done.
My CNC mill is nothing too special, just a sainsmart 3018 with a custom enclosure, needs some upgrades to improve it but it does fairly well. I got the text portion of the face screen printed at a local shop, and they did great work with it!
Good stuff. Very impressed with your ingenuity and design skills.
This is unbeleivable. WELL DONE! The aesthetic is absolutely perfect.
The original dash on these is still amazing compared to a lot of cars even today. What you did however was also incredible.
Love it. I am also very particular about dash design, so I am stoked to see a well designed dash instead of another iPad slapped on the dash.
MAD. FUCKIN. PROPS.
This thing is so cool. I only wish there was an animated start up and shut down sequence... but you need to get this in the car and driving stat. Bravo dude!
This is the exact esthetic I eventually want to do on my custom motorcyle. All be it more compact, of course. I may end up doing a wide screen digital display, though.
That's impressive
freakin awesome - what a nice tribute to the 80's with a modern touch !!!
Wow, what a awesome piece.
I want one for my z
This is so Cyberpunk. Absolutely nova choom!
Wow....that is SICK! Just randomly came across this video while looking up carputer dashes.....subscribed! I am building a vintage restomod and would LOVE to do something like this in it!
The custom faceplate is such a nice touch. I just went the complete opposite direction of converting canbus messages to my old analog dash. Now everyone still thinks my bronco is a rusty hunk of junk
That’s absolutely kickass
Wish I was as creative and smart as you
You're gonna make a decent amount of money when you start selling these custom clusters mate. I hope you do as I got a Z31 on the way and would like to buy or try to make it from your design.
I'm glad the car scene is still thriving in 2024 and hopefully till infinity 💓💙
Damn, I want one of these in my z33! That looks sick dude!
That is super cool man! Great job!
Bruv got big brains ! Very nice work my man!
Excellent work, mate.
So sick and clean
this is seriously so cool
Came out so good. Some PlastX polish will shine that cover up nice too
What I'd really like to do is make a new cover that doesn't have the holes in it from the old trip odometer pegs. I know the scuffed cover was a point of contention for some folks though, haha!
Wow that’s pretty 🤩
OMG! 13:11 !!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ I want this for my G35!!! Dude you are incredibly talented!!! Thank you for posting this video !!!
wooooooooooot 😍 bro this is the most cool thing i ever seen as mod for car.
Just seeing this made me want to play Turbo Overkill again.
Amazing work and i cant imagine just how much time and effort went into making it a reality.
Any plans on adding selectable retro themed backgrounds?
If you do please add that one old-school aesthetic design that you'd see on fastfood cups. White background with the turquoise brush with the gentle navy squiggle over it.
I believe it was called Jazz (design). That graphic always brings me back.
Dude, mad respect to you
This reminds me of the 90’s game Crusin’ USA.
this was soooo sick to see, i would absolutely buy one for the 1986 im tryna cop
People in the comments are oooowww and aarrrrring over the dash but just consider this
He not only built this but he also has the ability to create a polished video about building the dash board
now i feel dumb... good work m8!
Really incredible work! I’d love to see the gauges working in the car
It's coming! I have been very busy doing a lot of body repairs on the car so it's something worth installing this into!
That is so sick. I hope you’ve installed that by now.
@@Dedicationbrandco I'm afraid not just yet, the car is under the knife for bodywork! Haven't been able to spend as much time on it as I'd like to.
Very impressive
Well done Dude I am in awe.
The red light/green light on the keys tho 🤌
Please make more videos. I just subbed and can’t wait to see more.
amazing work
I love what you have done with the display cluster, but please don't let the scratches remain, take it apart and cut and polish the clear lens to revive it.
Good GRIEF this is TOO COOL.
This is sick! I want one for the civic !
Thats very good. Id live to have a setup like this for my 05 s60 volvo.
That looks sick.
I would buy one of these from you no matter the cost for my z31 its insanely cool
4:05 every programmer EVER has made that face lol
this is amazing! wish i knew how to do this kind of thing. great work. maybe get the plastic shield polished though. it will really showcase how amazing this is.
@@CosimoGames the plan is to make a new shield, I just didn't get around to it when I had the time to do the filming here haha
I… I would throw so much money at ur face to try to get u to make me one… don’t even own a zx don’t even care. Spectacular work, and kicks square in the nostalgia so nicely
i need this for my celica!!! OMG
I want that for my rare 90s ford truck ❤
making your own dash is so cool man!. thats AWESOME
Please release the dev kit! This would be a great solution to out into tons of other platforms
That is a really cool mod - nice work
I want to retro or make a dash board for my Tsuru 2, and this gave me an idea 🐢
You should be selling those. Man, the demand is huge.
That's awesome. I'd love to get a modern ford cluster in my 1997 f-150. I hope you make a universal kit from this or partner with a company to do so cause there's so many restomodders out there that would love to update their dash.
Any update on if and when you’ll be sharing the code, custom board configuration and 3d files?
It’d be very cool to be able to make this without redoing all the work you’ve already put in! Awesome stuff
Holy shit, looks phat as hell. I got a mustang with that digital dash you shown first. Gotta see if I can add my own images to it like you did
you absolute mad lad 🤘
Beautiful! I’ve been doing a good bit of research on making custom digital dashes (I’m planning to retrofit a junky Saab Sonett 3) and this system is almost exactly what I had in mind! Hoping to see some documentation soon!
So amazing!!! I love these types of videos!
Bro you're a genius
WOWOWOW
Fire, papa!
That is amazing
my god you absolute madlad
crazy skills you got there
Wow, nice work! That cluster looks amazing, especially the retro 80's background. I'd love to hear how you got the old system to work with the canbus in the cluster. I'm starting a project to build a customer gauge using a small esp32 touch screen, but I'm feeling a little intimidated by the canbus hacking that I'll need to do to get it to work with my modern Audi.
Bro that looks bad ass!!! Keep going with it!
This is hella cool
yooooo that cyber deck tho... hope you have a video on that!
Been thinking about a similar dash mod for my cyberpunk/vaporwave 95 nissan pathfinder. This only makes me want to attempt it more.
Even tho I'm using FuelTech I would absolutely love something like this to help subdue the racecar like feel
Got recommended this 7 months too late :(
Great video!
